Text Duplication after moving Cursor - General Questions and Answers

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but it is a text typing issue on my Touch HD so hope this is the right place. Could not find any similar post using search.
If I open SMS Text messaging or Notes and create a new message/note I get some strange auto-typing behaviour.
If I type 'aaa bbb' then place the cursor after the 3 a's and before the space, then type 'c' then the 3 b's get duplicated so I end up with aaabbbc bbb
Is this a feature or a bug? Can it be disabled?
I have turned off all spell checking and auto correction >Setting>Input Method>Options>T9 settings

Text Messaging Issues (Help please!)

I am having problems with text messages on my XDA IIs.
It happens intermittantly. Sometimes SMS works fine, but most of the time it does not.
It is sending messages that are shorter then 160characters using multiple texts.
Most of the time, when you begin writing the text, it says at the bottom 0/160. But once you hit around 70, it says something like 71/70 (2 Messages), and then so on. A Full 160 character text uses, like 3 or 4 messages.
When I send these, my girlfriend reports never receiving the other parts to the text, and only the first 70 characters, and a friend of mine says he receives them all seperately.
This is very annoying. Occasionally, it comes up 0/70 at the bottom. I'm close to smashing the phone up because of this - good job I have insurance eh?
Any ideas....?
By the way, I'm new around here. Nice site by the way!
Hmm... could a Mod move this to the Blue Angel forum, I appear to have posted by mistake in the General Forum...
Sorry guys...
What language is your blue angel set up in ?
Inbox --> Accounts --> Accounts --> SMS --> "Send SMS messegages using Unicode when necessary"
On or Off?
Unicode messages gives about 70 characters..
It enables you to send funny looking characters, but fewer of them..
Yeah, that's where I was going with the language thing.
I assumed that there must be some charaters being used that could only be encoded using two bytes
You are ok woth a lot of international characters but ©, ® and æ for instance will put you in unicode territory.
Unicode...
I can type 160x "æ" pr SMS...
This is native language for me though..
(NO! I don't go around saying "ææææææ" all day..)
My suggestion:
Disable the unicode thingy and try typing æ, ø, å, ©, ® and stuff..
Does the 2s have the intellipad text entry system like on the 2i?
I've noticed this when trying to use it on the XDA2 and it had the same issue, only once I'd removed Intellipad from the 2003SE install did the problem go away.
As far as I know it's a bug that MS / O2 are aware of, in the meantime you'll just have to a) not use apostrophe punctuation or b) use the " ' " on the keyboard / use Intellipad WITH the "1" button to put in the punctuation.
Cheers
Ant
sorted ive turned off the unicode and now when the apostrophe puts its self in there it doesnt go to 7 messages like it has been doing wrote a 145 character text the other day and it was showing as 9 messages because of all the punctuation took it out and back to 1 ,no need to do that now punctuation works fine
thanks Bonzo i carnt tell u how much this has been buggin me lol

recipient names in SMS and email !?!

I have a small problem with the touch pro..
in my contacts i have several contacts with the same first name but different last names.
in my TyTnII, when writing an SMS or email, in the to: space i used to write the first two characters of the first name, space then one or two of the last name then i usually get the required contact.
in teh Touch pro, it's different, i write the two letters from the first name, it doesn't show all the contacts with the same first name.
when i put space it chooses the name displayed, it doesn't give me the chance to enter the second name.
this is really irritating me.
do you have a solution for this?
You know that you can use the arrows on either side of the one it finds first so you can scroll through the rest, right?
Not quite what you're wanting, but you didn't mention it, so, just in case!
this is exactly what I'm doing, but it doesn't show all the contacts...
that's why i have to find a way to enter the second name.
start typing with th last name, not the first.
this works for me
hmmm...
starting by second name was OK for some names, but it does no good when there's a contact who's first name is the same like another contact's second name.... (seems complex now)
it directly chooses the first one!!
i guess if someone has the CAB file for the messaging software same as TyTnII, it would be the ultimate solution for me.
can anyone help please?
Maybe I'm naive and unknowledgable on this, but wouldn't something like this be something to put forward to HTC support? They most likely will not solve it for you right away, but at least they would have a record of this being an issue and might rethink the software and give the user an option between which selection method is used.
If you tap on the "To:" it brings up the contacts app and you can browse for and select your intended recipient from there.
Hope that helps
I accidentally discovered a solution!!
after writing the first couple of letters of the first name, then CTRL+SPACE, then the first letters of the last name....
CTLR was the trick... as SPACE alone would choose the first displayed name.
thanks all for helping.
I have contacts with the same format as yours. I usually type the first two or three letters of the first name, then use the down arrow on the QWERTY. I haven't tried the virtual keyboard yet, but sure the D-pad would work in the same fashion.
FYI for those with similiar issues. It does only reflect one name at a time, but does let you scroll the contact list.

How do I Copy/Paste number into contacts

This has got to be the dumbest question I've ever asked but it's infuriating me that I haven't figured it out.
I just had my wife ask me to write down a phone number. I quickly tapped it out in Notes. Then I swipe over to highlight and press and hold to Copy. So far so good.
Then I go to add a new contact and I can't Paste the dang number. I press and hold... no pop-up to Paste. There's no keyboard Paste. How do I Paste in a new contact number?
try to recall and edit the contact with telephone keypad
this wokaround is useful also when you want to add alphanumeric characters in telephone numbers fields because with LEO's keyboard this is impossible
Let me make sure I have this correct:
After I've copied, I go to dialpad and Paste, the Save to Contacts? It looks like that's do-able.
If you have Swype keyboard, the copy/paste option is built in and you can use this anywhere. I generally have my hardware keys assigned for copy/cut/paste using AEBPlus so that I can do this anywhere without having to press and hold every time, including file copies and stuff.

[Q] Pop up Menu Window Size

Hi, is it possible to adjust or modify the Pop up Menu Windows Size? I currently have total of 6 templates on Messaging/SMS, most of them are too long and each are containing information that I'm planning to send every day via SMS.
Lets say every template has 30 to 100 characters, and when I'm trying to "Insert template" on the "Compose" field on the SMS, I'm getting FC on the Messaging app, maybe the app can't handle the massive character count on my templates.
I have tried the Gesture Trace feature for the Templates, it's working but it's not that accurate, sometimes it would mess up the composition field that it would insert 2 or 3 templates with one gesture that i make.
Right now, the method that I'm using is using a Notepad app, that i would just edit it and - select all text - and copy, that does the job. I really can't use of its features to share or send it via SMS because of the nature that most of the time, i need to send those info via reply to an anonymous number (not saved on my contacts).
So is it possible to adjust the pop up menu window on the compose field so that when i choose "Insert Template" it would display all of my templates? I'm thinking that those long templates are the cause of the Messaging FC.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I'm currently using Android NAND on HD2 (Gingerbread Hyperdroid CM7)
and by the way, leaving only 1 template gives me no FCs anymore... anyone?
Got what i wanted thru GoSMS, but would love to know if there is a workaround for the native SMS app. TIA!

[Q] No keyboard macro app in market, really?

I cannot believe there is not a program similar to the windows program "Keyboard Express." If it is useful on a computer it should be doubly so for a smartphone. I am really tired of typing out my email addresses for starters. I am not part of the texting generation typing with thumbs at 100000 keystrokes a minute. Swype is ok, but it would be nice if I could program long strings as a custom gesture or something. Also program macros that could launch programs in batches or with custom parameters. Find it amazing with all the apps out there that I couldn't find one that does this obviously useful function. Maybe I searched for the wrong thing?
I use an app called inserty. It's not as convenient as if it were built in to the keyboard, but it's very flexible, allowing you to insert canned text like email addresses and passwords or text with fill-in fields like the current date and time, your GPS location, etc.
The way it works is that it's a keyboard replacement. To insert something with Inserty, you long-press in the text you're writing, pick "Input method", and pick Inserty. That pops up a list of all your canned phrases; tap on the one you want and then it prompts you for which keyboard you want to go back to. The selected phrase is inserted just as if you had typed it manually, and you're back to your email or SMS or whatever.
As I said, it's not the most convenient mechanism you can imagine, although it certainly beats typing in my longish email address, but I don't think Android has the hooks to do anything less clunky.
The other thing I should mention, since you're a Swype user, is that the SlideIT keyboard has an abbreviation facility that you can customize. For example, you could associate the abbreviation EML with the text [email protected]; every time you trace "eml", one of the words in the suggestion bar will be that abbreviation (abbreviations are shown in green, IIRC), and selecting that entry will insert [email protected] into the text you are writing.
I use Clipper+
It's a clipboard manager. I have mine set easily access via the notification bar. The Snippets feature is what I use the most.
I can easily paste my 18+ character email address, login credentials, short phrases.
Check it out the free version http://market.android.com/details?id=org.rojekti.clipper
Thanks for the replies, I am exploring the programs mentioned. They might not be very direct, but useful.
I ended up using Clipper, it serves the function, albeit awkwardly.

Just want to say thanks for the thread....solved my long entry problems.
Macro Keyboard

You may try the 'Macro Keyboard' , which allows to define aliases
for arbitrary text. Texts can even be parameterized.
Have a look on the Android market. I am not allowed to post a link here yet
