2 Problems (Email + Text), please help! - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I recently just upgraded from CM 5.0.8 to CM6 RC1 on my G1. I had to wipe and reflash because I noticed my Google apps were missing and I tried to flash the gapps zip and I got stuck on the Touch Android to Continue screen. So I reflashed CM6 and the Google apps after starting over from scratch with a fresh wipe, but now my email app doesn't work! It worked one time, it let me configure my Yahoo account and I got to my inbox, and then I closed it. I try to go back again and I get the FC message every time now! I've tried clearing the application data, rebooting, removing battery and rebooting, etc, nothing works. Any help with this?
Also, thanks to the new 2.2 system on CM6, there's an annoying grey square next to messages that I've sent in Messaging that's supposed to be my profile picture? I don't use gmail often, so I don't have a profile pic on it, so it's pretty pointless to me. I've googled this, and everyone says to set my phone number in the SIM using an old phone, but I don't just have old phones laying around like that. >_> Also they said after that you sync it to your gmail again or create a "Me" contact in your phone or something and you can setup your picture from there. I think the whole contact photo thing is annoying in general, so isn't there a way to just plain get rid of the grey square or disable contact photos in Messaging altogether?
I'm not sure if this is the right section for this since I didn't exactly see any "Android Hacking Help" forums or anything, but if anyone can help, I appreciate it! Thanks!

Can't anyone help? I solved my messaging problem by just switching to Handcent SMS, but the email problem still persists.

[Q] Nook Color gmail oddity

I have seen dozens if not 100's of posts about gmail issues with an auto nootered NC. I can't seem to fix my issue or find anything similar. I have a NC version 1.0.1 that I used auto nooter 2.12.25 and made sure everything worked, market, gmail, rom manager, etc. Then I used the NookColor_v1.1.0_r2.zip file to update the firmware to 1.1. It all seems to work but gmail now closes when I try to delete an email. If I mark the email as unread, then delete, it works as expected. Any ideas?
ADDENDA: strange, I go into the BN library and get an unauthorized error and the system reboots into the 2.12.25 auto-nooter screen.
I had the same problem. GMail was constantly restarting. In the end, my problem was under
Settings->App Settings->Social->Google Account
Simply by unlinking the Google account did the trick. GMail is working well.
Hope it helps.

thanks for the tip, my NC has slowly spiraled out of control since I did the update. I am now, by appearance anyway, back to a simple base install 1.0.1 auto nootered with 2.12.25. We will see how it goes from here for a while before moving on again.

Outgoing Gmail stuck in outbox

Hello, I am having some when I send my email it get stuck in the outbox. I tried clearing the cache and data on the gmail app and I was able to send one email and they problem started again. I rebooted the phone and still no luck. Can anybody help me out? I am running stock gingerbread rom.
edit: seems like the file might be too big...I sent another file no prob
just letting you know that you arent the only one. I'm rooted & tried on various roms and have had the same issue. I've also had it where it would send an email & it'll be marked as abdraft even though it went through.
I finally said f it and installed Boat Browser Mini w/ homepage set to gmail and just do it that way.
Ivenhad the same problem....especially after a nandroid restore.
This happens after most of my nandroid restores. It's a real PITA but go into settings, applications, gmail, and clear data. It syncs everything up again, but you will have to restore settings too (notification tones, font size, folder syncing, etc.) It sucks, but it works every time!

[Q] One contact's message thread won't open. Stock message app

Ever since the ICS upgrade, one contact's message thread refuses to open and is stuck on "O Loading" with that little circle revolving.
I downloaded go sms pro before and I was able to access his thread through that and the message count wasn't over the maximum limit per contact. I've since gone back to the stock app as he's out of the country and it's faster than go sms pro but he recently txted me and caused the problem to occur with other contacts (though a reset of the phone solves their issue)
Does anyone have a solution and failing that, advice? I should say right now that deleting his message thread is the last resort.

You could try to backup your messages (you can find some apps for that in the market), then delete all your contacts, and afterwards restore them again~
Though no idea if it will work :/

Aye I could try it with a contact whose messages I don't mind losing and seeing if that works, thanks for the tip!
You can also use Google Voice, and have it copy all the messages to your Gmail account.

So I started backing up and restoring and I was able to open all contacts' threads. The backup never fully restores all messages though and I have to keep hitting "restore" so that it'll restore them all up to the present day. Don't know why it's doing it this way.
Just now I've checked and that one contact won't open again. What I might do is try and restore all to the present, delete loads of messages I don't want, and backup this new message history.
I know this is most likely far too late but I was having the same problems and found this thread while trying to sort it and hope it will help anyone else in future who has the same problems. I tried backing up and restoring (Using both the default and sms back-up and restore) deleting the thread and restoring, eventually I solved it by installing handscent, deleting the messages sent/received back to when the problem started in that thread and a few before, then went in settings, apps, then all, messages cleared the cache, restarted and it is sorted!!

Yeah it never resolved itself but I love the customisation of go sms pro so much that I don't mind anymore. Pity go sms pro crashes every so often and I think it slows the phone down.
I was going to start a new thread but see that this is the same problem I have.
I have a mt4gs (Doubleshot) and the problem described in this thread has happened twice. Both times i was receiving a text message and did something else with the phone at the same moment, and it seems to have jammed up the receipt of that text. The first time, i sent a text to the person at the same moment i received one. The second time, i locked the screen at the moment one arrived. Now that thread never loads, and loading other threads or contacts takes much longer than it should. In fact, i don't think contacts would ever load if i were willing to wait forever.
The first time I backed up the texts, reset the device, and restored, and everything worked fine, but that's a really time-consuming process and it seems like a ridiculous workaround for some broken buffer or queue in Android messaging.
It seems that there must be a direct fix for this. If it's easy enough to break messaging that it has happened to me twice, it must be a fairly common problem. But a search has turned up nothing but people saying there are too many messages or to use an alternative app for messaging. That's (1) incorrect and (2) again an ugly workaround for a problem with core functionality.

[Q] Odd Hangouts problem

I have been loving the new Hangouts with SMS, but a problem popped up today. Normally when you are on the screen where you can see all the message threads, in the top left you can see your email account and click it to change your Google account, and when you click a thread, that changes to your friends name and you can click that to switch between texts and hangout messages. Perfect, right?
Well mine stopped working like that today. On the thread page, I still see my email addresses to change between, but clicking on a thread no longer changes that to my friends name. It just stays on my email addresses. This makes switching between SMS and hangouts very hard. And it is now IMPOSSIBLE to start a new conversation with SMS without using the entirely different Contacts app.
Here's where things get really weird. I had an older Titanium backup of Hangouts from a few days ago I restored to. Didn't fix it, same problem. Uninstalled it through titanium backup, reinstalled it from the app store, same problem.
The only way to fix it is to do a full recovery restore to a ROM backup I made a few days ago. But this only fixes it for an hour or so, then it goes right back to being broken. The only thing I can think of is maybe Google services is being updated in the background and somehow breaking it, but this should break it for everyone.
Any help here?
I figured it out. Every time i would change the dpi to 360 this would happen. If it's on 370 or 380 it works fine.

[Q] Generic Question regarding Missing Text Messages

This is a generic question. I'm not looking for specific help tracking down the problem cuz there seem to be way too many variables. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced/noticed it. Or has any info numerous Google searches has not revealed.
So, every once in a while, a text message sent to me seems to not show up on my phone. The only way I know I got it is because Pushbullet syncs it to my PC and Firefox extension. But when I look in my messaging app (Google Messenger) it is not there. And if I do a backup using SMS Backup and Restore Pro it is not included in the backup.
So my phone must be receiving the message if Pushbullet mirrors it. Which makes me assume it is not a cell service issue. But it is not on my phone, messaging app, or SMS backups. Rebooting, switching SMS apps (tried 8SMS and Textra too), clearing app caches, etc. doesn't reveal said missing SMS's.
Background: Nexus 5, PAC-MAN rom 4.4 RC3, Google Messenger as main SMS app, various Xposed modules (but none that affect SMS), T-Mobile service.
It's only been a couple so far. But could have been more when my PC isn't on. And the reason I am concerned is cuz said SMS's are from pretty girls. So obviously I NEED to receive them
If anyone has any advice/info/sarcastic remarks/etc., I would appreciate it. Thxs!

I'd be looking at Pushbullet if I were you. Xposed is always a possibility.
Do the texts show up if you reboot the phone?

Umm, forward them to me for safekeeping?
Sorry, no helpful insight here. =\

Nope. Tried that the second time I noticed and no luck. Also tried clearing cache/dalvik (just cuz).

Haha, nice try
Update: reflashed my ROM, set everything back up from scratch (hate doing that) except for Pushbullet. Bought a Sony Smartwatch 3 and using Coffee to txt from it. Got a txt this morning, and when scrolling thru it on my watch noticed a message that was not on my phone again.
I'm wondering if it's Messenger at this point. Gonna switch messaging apps and see how that goes.
Try switching to hangouts or something, also do you set the setting for default sms handler in settings?

I've switched to 8SMS from Messenger. I also went back to stock 4.4.4 and didn't let Google restore any app data. Messenger was the default SMS app. The only time I ever switched it was to restore a SMS backup for whatever reason and switched it right back. I didn't check at the time of missing texts if the default was changed, tho.
I just think they must've been deleted for whatever reason since they didn't show up in a backup. Been on stock with 8SMS for a few days and haven't noticed it so far. Maybe just a weird glitch with Messenger and letting the app data be restored when I reset the first time brought it back? Idk.
