I've been traveling in Mexico & Central America. Fortunately all the countries have at least one company offering pay-as-you-go internet via USB dongle.
However all is not bliss. Each country and provider has their own hardware (and firmware)
Is there a forum - resource for people like me that would like to hack the firmware so I can use one dongle everywhere.
Regards,
GPSGary
Doubtful, your best bet would be tethering with a GSM phone, then just buy a new sim card for each location.
USB modem dongles
The countries don't all have pre-paid data plans for phones and its more hardware and software to deal with. A dongle is plug and connect.

where to buy, what to buy, which network to be on
i am thinking of buying x7510. not sure which version (US/ taiwan version),
Don't know which network to go on (optsu/ telstra).
I am going to use this as a laptop replacement and netbook. I was primarily with optus, was very excited that they are expanding their 3g 900Mhz hsdpa in regional areas but not sure. was thinking about changing to telstra for next G access to use outside of metro areas.
Also, where do you buy it in aussie?
Any input will be much appreciated
Hi people,
I am really hoping some one can help me.
I am on Wednesday going to a part of the world where wireless internet is still very slow. However, I have found a service which offers Wireless Broadband speeds upto 3.1Mbps using CDMA technology. Link http://www.ptcl.com.pk/contentb.php?NID=199
Now being in the UK, I have no idea about CDMA technology or how it operates. I have at my disposal the following equipment. I just want to know if I will be able to get online using the equipment I have or will I need to buy their dongle priced at Rs 3,999
1. Dell D630 with built in Dell 5530 WWAN card (UMTS)
2. Huawei E160 usb dongle (unlcoked). Is this GSM only?
3. A sony vaio laptop from the US, which says 'Sprint Wireless Broadband ready' on it. I have not found a slot to insert a sim card into it.
Does anybody know if the CDMA Wireless Broadband will require a sim card? Please help me.
Anyone? Please help. I am off in less than 48 hours and can do with some help. Thanks in advance.
Hello, Am trying to get a phone to a relative that lives in the Dominican Republic, i live in Puerto Rico where we get all the US phones(we are a common wealth of the US) so basically i got access to all US version of the phones, the problem is that on the Dominican the company that am trying to get the phone on is Orange and they use HSPA(3g) in the 900mhz. Is there any US branded phone that works on that frequency? as of right now none us cellphone company uses those, nor At&t or Tmobile or even Claro PR(all gsm).
I know that even though the company doesnt use certain frequency the phone could still support it. Have any one here know of a US android phone working on Orange Dominicana 3g network??
[Specs am looking for]
Front Facing Camera
Led Flash for the back camera
Decent size screen 4.0"+
You'd probably be best off sourcing an International Asian or European model from eBay. Most APAC/EU networks use 900/2100 for 3G.
Good luck!
I decided to go into the webpage of the company am trying to get a phone to work on, i just went trough the phones they sell, found the LG 3D which is sold here locally around my budget, and it uses the 900mhz band . My issue is somewhat resolved.
...there should be an accurate way to find information of the radios/freq. our phones hardware comes with....
phonearena.com not reliable
gsmarena.com not reliable
Hello!
Has anybody been looking into usb 3G modems compatibility with our tablet.
I guess it depends in the kernel in use.
I'm considering buying the ZTE MF669, in sweden we've got some kind of ad-supported 3G contracts specially for tablets and laptops.
Thanks for the help!

T-Mobile offers $30 add a line SIM service meant for cell phones on their unlimited 4G data phone plans. But I would like to install this SIM in an unlocked Rogers LTE Aircard 330U, which supposedly supports the 1700/2100 frequencies (Bands 4 and ?) used by T-Mobile for their LTE service.
If I used this setup with my laptop at home as a hotspot, I could get rid of my cable TV and internet service and use the hotspot for unlimited internet. And T-Mobile's network would recognize the device as a phone?
Is this feasible?
Thus far, other than using the unproven iOS7 jailbreak on my iPhone 5S, I haven't found a cheaper way to get high-speed internet and TV (TV via streaming) at home. The next cheapest option is keeping cable internet and canceling TV service.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
By the way, what is the lowest Mbps plan I should purchase if I decide to keep cable internet, that will allow good quality and consistent live video streaming?
Thanks in advance...
