Removing AT&T apps - Captivate General

Let me start off by saying that this is my first Android phone and I love it. The sucker is so fast and just a joy to play with.
Being the type of person that I am (loves to play around with things) i have a question.
I am going to root my Captivate and I understand the process to do that but I would also like to remove a bunch of the AT&T stuff that they have loaded the phone up with I am just not sure what I can remove or how to do it.
Is there a walk thru on what you can remove and how to remove it?
ok never mind I found my own answer.

How to uninstall AT&T apps - HTC Pure WinMo 6.5 Pro

Hello all. Searched the forums and didn't find the answers to this. Pardon if it's been asked before.
I have a Pure. My first smart phone, and I'm really liking it. It's an AT&T phone, which means it comes with all the crap they like to preload. I've read on several different web sites (and those sites all seem to refer back to xda) of a way to get rid of the ATT bloat. Apparently it involves a hard-reset of the device, then A)remove the battery, or B)push the reset button, and that will interrupt the auto-install process. I'm very interested, as I'd like to free up the memory (however big or small the amount may be), and I suspect the thing would run a bit faster as well.
My questions:
1. All the instructions I've read deal with earlier versions of WinMo. Does this still work with 6.5 Professional?
2. If it does, what exactly is the procedure? Do I remove the battery, or push soft reset?
3. Is there a possibility of damage? I don't see how, but I'd like to be sure.
4. There are some of the pre-loaded apps that are useful. Is there a way to find the worthwhile apps and install them one at a time?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

[Q] Hack Samsung Continuum Help?

Hello! I hope I am posting in the right place... I have been searching around and decided this looked like the best try. I just joined. ^^'
I went and got me the new Samsung Continuum Galaxy S and have been playing with it some. Have only had it for 3 days. ^^'
I have loved it but has found one thing that is very annoying... 3 pages of system apps that I can't install. Joy. 2 of those pages I could probably do without. Like bing, blockbuster, etc. And they run in the background randomly ((despite having auto sync off)) and I can tell with my Batter Doctor App. I would really like to remove them, but to do that I must first root the phone... No big deal, right? ... So I thought. =< My iTouch 4th gen was very easy to Jailbreak ((despite my boyfriend messing it up twice on me XP)) and watching my boyfriend do is Droid X seemed so easy.
I would like some help doing this...
I have seen some tutorials, but no have helped. I have done the z4root app ((permanent and temporary roots)) and it will go through all the process and then close itself out. Thought it was normal since that is what happened to my boyfriends Droid X phone and he got the Superuser Permissions to play with it more.
It just ran very slowly, didn't care since I knew there was an app that fixed that, and went to one of my programs to remove some of those system apps ((A Smart Uninstaller)) and it said the phone was not rooted?
I went back to the z4root app ((I did have the 1.3 verison by the way and the one made by ryanza, not an imitation)) and it was back to the screen for permanent or temporary root?
I did this process at least 10 more times and the same result each time. The app finishes installing the root and closes... and then it never is rooted and either the app will close after reopening or it will go to the normal screen. -sigh-
Is there currently any way to root the new Samsung Continuum?
Or just a way to remove system apps without rooting?
Extra Information ::
-- Astro is installed
-- AppInstaller is installed
-- USB is debugged
-- Firmware : 2.1-update1
This should probably be moved to the Continuum section, but yes, you can root the Continuum with SuperOneClick. I cannot link it since I am still a forum noob, but go to the Continuum section and look for the post "Root that works" in the Continuum Android Development section. Hope that helps!
Oh and I used Bloat Freezer from the market to just freeze the Verizon crap so I can simply thaw it if I need to.

[Q] Why are Android stocks tied to the system?

I was just wondering, why if you delete certain stock apps (Or Bloatware for that matter), they cause FCs or instability in general? Are they tied into the OS somehow?
If somebody can explain this, (In layman
s terms, I'm still learning things about Android) I'd be very thankful.
Bloatware can be removed when you root your device through the explorer. But you can download custom roms with an unlocked bootloader which usually have no bloatware those are two ways of getting rid of the carrier crap. Your choice.
It's also dependent on your device & what type of rom you're running. There should be a list of safe to remove apps for your device/rom.
If you're iffy of something, try freezing it first with Titanium Backup. If all goes well then you can uninstall it.

Thanks for your quick reply, but what I meant was why is it that if you delete a stock apps (Like DriveSmart from Samsung)

it messes with the system.
EDIT: Figured it was worth mentioning that I don't own an Android device yet (But it'll either be the Epic 4G or the Sidekick 4G [I lurk in the latter's forum]), so I'm trying soak up as much info as I can receive.
So when I get either device [Even though hands on experience always trumps reading things off forums] I won't waste time figuring things out.
EDIT #2: And thanks plainjane, missed your post somehow.

Bloatware and how to get rid of it.

I thought that I would ask this question and then see what everyone has to offer.
I recently rooted my LG Volt phone and all is well. My next step is to take off some of the 'Bloatware' that came installed on the phone from VM.
My Question is HOW? and WHAT?
I know I would like to remove CHROME browser but not sure how. I know there are a lot of other apps that could come off that I'm not aware of that just slow down the phone and take up space. Has anyone ever developed a definitive list of the 'possible' bloatware that is installed on phones.
I'm afraid to remove some things incase it is required to operate the phone. So something that is critical to the phone operation should not be included on the list.
Once a list is developed than I could check against it to see what it is possible to remove.
Second part is how. Since my phone is rooted it should be fairly easy but not sure exactly how and to make sure I got all of a piece of software removed or am I leaving something behind that is more wasted space.
This, I would think, would be very useful to amateurs like myself.

install app called (system app remover) ....about WHAT : you need to un-install the apps that you don't need but doesn't harm the phone ....like if you are on Samsung phone or sony....you need to un-install chrome and Samsung store ....play groups...
simply my man you can un-install all the apps that shows in your app drawer ...else than that don't remove any thing
good luck :good:

[Style 2] Anyone know any info about Poot-debug(W100).apk?

I have come across a few tutorials claiming this app can get root, but I've never heard of it and so I will not try it fit fear of breaking my phone. Just wondering if this is known malware or at least semi legit? I stress that no one actually try it unless you're ready to not be able to use that phone again, but if any brave soul is willing to take the risk I'd be interested in any info.
It's not in any way legit as far as I can tell. I ran across it while looking for an easy way to root my phone and the APK turned out to be PUP adware that tried to gain device admin privs. At first I wondered if I just got a bad package, but I was never able to find a legit version. I did test the APK I had (out of pure curiosity), and it didn't actually install a launchable application at all. Just a hidden app that runs as a device admin and randomly launches the web browser and redirects to various ads. (Malwarebytes can detect and remove what seems to be all traces of it.)
