I've had this phone since the end of Feb and it has never done this. This past weekend, my wife and I, were over at a friends house and we kept getting pestered on my phone by an idiot who wanted to start stuff with us. Point is, during that time my phone was passed to 3 ppl besides my wife and I. One of them, not my wife, pushed something and now all calls are through the speaker. Do any of you know how to keep the speaker from coming on everytime I make or receive a call or where the setting is to keep it from doing that? My phone is bone stock and non rooted. I have searched, read the manual cover to cover, and looked through all the settings with no answer. It is extremely annoying to have to shut the speaker off everytime I go to make or receive a phone call. Prior to this weekend it was never like that. Any help to resolve this will be much appreciated.

You could try emailing the HTC support site. They resolved a similar issue with me in a day, in that case it was volume always at max during a call when I had a head set on with no volume control, along with a strange status icon. I had inadvertently selected a buried setting that is for the hearing impaired. No one on this forum helped after two days so gave HTC a shot at it, and they came through.
Ok, Kool. I'll try that, thanx.

Called HTC and they wanted me to factory reset my phone. I told them I couldn't do it right then and would do it later in the evening. They said before I got off the phone with them, if a reset didn't work to call warranty and get it exchanged. Well, before I could perform the reset, my phone surprisingly stopped doing it. Dunno what corrected it but was glad it was gone. A couple days later, it returned for only 3 phone calls. What I figured out was that it is connected with the car panel app. You need to use an app like Watchdog, which I got the free paid version when it was the daily freebie from Amazon, find the Car Panel process and "kill" it and it will stop. When you close it out it just goes to the backround. You need to close the process to get it to stop. I am gonna call HTC back and let them know how I corrected it, so people who dont come to forums like this one and calls HTC they have a solution other than a factory reset.

Ok we have 2 Infuses at my house and both are getting some king of call garbling. My mothers phone garbles very often and will only work if she hangs up and tries again. My phone on the other hand does the same thing with the added bonus of sometimes having no sound at all when the person picks up. So, is this a common problem or what?
I would like to add that some times the garbling goes both ways so that I hear the distortion on my phone when she calls (I mean this distortion is not related to our voices, ittl just happen by itself prompting a "did you just hear that?"
Thanks for any help you guys can give me, Im starting to wish I could still return it for another phone.
Is your sim card new?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Sure isnt. I havent had a problem on my backup phone.
Weird. No problems like that - the only audio problem I've seen reported any time recently is the Hellraiser first-call bug - but that only applies if you're running a Hellraiser ROM.
Really sounds to me like something is funky with your local towers... Maybe something the Infuse specifically doesn't like.
What was your backup phone? You never know, getting a new sim may help.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Network issue, just because another different model phone doesn't have the save issue means nothing. Your backup device could be GSM only for all we know while the Infuse uses WCDMA priority and GSM as a backup.
A SIM swap won't do anything unless you were getting no signal at all. Call at&t and report it, they'll most likely file a service request and send an engineer out to check it out.
Being that I used to be in telecommunications for T-mobile, this was a frequent issue I dealt with.

Thanks for that advice, Ive been pushing her to call in but shes far too lazy. Ill do it for my phone and see what happens.
What hardware version do you have? If you remove the battery there is the white sticker with all the numbers on it. There is also a set of numbers that tells which hardware version it is. its usually a set of two numbers separated by a period (.) ex. 11.04 or 11.11 or 12.01, you get the point.
I read a post about hardware versions 11.05 and below having this issue. I've had 3 DCs, (11.04, 11.05, and 11.11) and my current one, the 11.11, has no issues whatsoever. No dropped signal, no cracking/popping/static, no issues that require me to cycle airplane mode on/off, etc. So let's hear it.

I did the same thing. They sent me a nexus as well, but i have signal and connectivity issues with it. Sitting in one spot, it will go from 4 with 4G to 0 bars with an X. Where with my DC, i kept 4 bars and 4G in that same spot. I have both, a DC and a GN. It seems like the connectivity issues with the GN is a big/common problem unless you get the 1% that isn't defective. I've never had as issue with signal/connectivity with any of my DCs, just the static/popping, with the exception of my current DC.
I'm calling in the morning to complain about my popping and squealing... I hope I get a nexus....!!!!
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA
I have a DC that is 11.05. I don't get the squeal, but I do get the static and popping. Do they replace it right at the verizon store, or do they send out the replacement?
I have one that's 11.05. I didn't notice the squeal pre-FP1 because I use mainly bluetooth for calls. Since loading FP1 (and Eclipse 2.0), I've noted the wonderful squealing noises in calls, including once or twice through bluetooth, though that seems exceedingly rare.
Just got off the phone with Verizon... my galaxy nexus is now in the mail... I talked to a representative for about 2 minutes and he diagnosed the problem as a speaker issue...? Lol. I'm thinking his quick response may have to do with the 4 other LTE devices on my account... and the 280 dollar bill I pay every month!!! Lol... man o man... this was my very first smartphone and I do love it but, I'm not gonna lie, its not that hard to part ways with it for a nexus... by the way, my hardware version for the charge is 11.05

I emailed support earlier after posting in this thread (and realizing I'd started having the issue on bluetooth as well as handset/speakerphone). I'm hoping for the same result. It's been a great phone for me, without a doubt, but if I can get away from the squeal and get a Nexus at the same time, I'll jump on it in a heartbeat.
I have version 11.04 and I have NEVER had any cracking, popping, or hissing. My charge only drops data when it's obviously in a low signal environment, and has been much improved since the introduced GB.

I lost my popping and cracking somewhere along the lines. Do they make you do anything with your old phones? Like returning them? Because I wonder if you would want to go back to stock before hand. I thought rooting voided the warranties.

I'd have the "back to stock " Odin file ready before you call. If you get lucky and have your new phone ordered , it would probably only take a few minutes to get to stock. But yea, unroot after it is confirmed lol

I am on 11.05 with no screeching /squealing issues.
Sent from my handheld computer using electromagnetic radiation.
I have 11.05 and I get popping and screeching when I receive calls. Every call I receive about 30-40 seconds into the conversation then it occurs about every 20-30 seconds after the initial one. It has been getting worse the past few months. Needless to say I am very unhappy.
My CLNR is version 11.04. We will see if there's a problem with this one.
I got 11.12 been having data drops like a mug the past 2 weeks, times where 4g just wont connect and 3g will drop and never return. Tried flashing different modems and roms but still no luck. Waiting to hear back from my service ticket.
Oh, the good news just keeps coming. Now none of my three computers will recognize my phone to Odin back to stock. They'll recognize the new phone just fine, though.
[edit: Well, SamsungPST's port scanning saved me. For some reason, regardless of what drivers I installed, my computers wouldn't recognize that a device was even being plugged in. Once I loaded up SamsungPST and hit "Read General Information", it started searching the USB ports. When it hit the one my phone was in, the computer started installing drivers. After that, Odin connected fine. Strange.]
I have noticed that some of my calls are not coming through. The past few days people have tried to call me, but said they got a busy signal. The phone never even rang. I also got an email today from a potential employer who said they called twice today... The phone was sitting on my desk right in front of me all day, and nothing. Is this happening to anyone else? What can be done to fix it? Im not in a place where im not getting service so I dont understand why its doing this?
Also, the other day I was having car issues and needed to call someone, when I went to call someone the phone showed the dialing screen, but never started to ring. I tried hanging up and redialing, but nothing worked. I had to shut down my phone and restart it. I can only imagine what would have happened if I really couldnt call out finally....
Really starting to hate this phone.

Do you think switching to your rom might help? I want to try it but I'm waiting for the final version. I did have my sim replaced a few years ago by T-Mobile. I know they had to transfer all my stuff on to a new one. I have one laying around, is there anything I need to do to get it to work? Like switch my number to it?
You might want to try cleaning the metal contacts of your sim card with a pink eraser.

If you're on stock I think your best bet is to either get sim replaced before flashing cus if its a hardware issue then you will have to get it replaced.
As for the sim card if it's new then just call them and they'll activate it if it's used before then it won't work anymore and you'll have to buy one

Is anyone else having this issue? Its getting really annoying! I had to dial my friend 5 times before it actually went through.

Yeah, I just didnt want to do the "call tmobile and sit on the phone with them for an hour to troubleshoot" crap... Ugh...
Called Tmobile and they ended up screwing my phone up even more with their "troubleshooting" Told me to do a factory reset, but since I have a custom ROM, it just screwed more up. Now I cant even swipe past the unlock screen and there is no reaction to my touch. At least its finally screwed up enough to get them to send out a replacement. Now im trying to revert back to complete stock so I can send this one back to them when my new one arrives. So I guess problem solved in a way..

Hi,
I noticed weird problem with Nexus 5/ 4.4.
Whenever I make a phone call and if the the receiver is busy (line engaged) it is impossible to hang up the phone straight away. First it give untraditional busy tone and then if I press hang up the tone won't go away at least for next 10secs and impossible hang up until phone it hangs up it self after 10sec. I'm sure lots of people must be having same problem.
Please advise.
Many thanks

Most phones will respond this way - this isn't a "new" problem. Perhaps 10 seconds is an extremely long time and it doesn't make sense why you're getting that kind of time, but standard 2-6 seconds is common. Typically what happens with these phone lines is when you call a number and receive a busy tone in response, the transaction is metaphorically grabbed and held onto in the attempt that the called line becomes free again.
Perhaps with Android 4.4 or the Nexus 5, a newer technology has been integrated which is causing long times in this case. I have not experienced this but it sounds frustrating. When this happens - are you calling a land line or mobile device?

No!
It happens when I call and receiver is busy (I get busy signal, not the one with short tones but music like tone) and that's it I am unable to hung up. Even I press hang up, hunging up button turns to grey from red but tone goes on for at least 10-15secs, I tried to exit by pressing home button but still tone will be there until the phone ends it in long time.
Hope this helps.
May be later I'll post the link on YouTube.

YES...I also have this issue here in Canada on Bell network.... Really hope there is a fix for this. Not being able to use your dialer again for another 15 seconds until the phone decides it is going to hangup is unacceptable. Not sure why the person earlier said its normal for phones to take a few seconds, yeah right..my SG2 hung up immediately! How else is one to win radio contests by spamming the phone lines?

No, I stated earlier that it is common for a few seconds when receiving a busy dial tone. Not every single call you end should take time, most will end instantly. If it's a cell phone, should be right away.
I haven't experienced calling a number and receiving a busy tone to test if mine does this also. Hopefully this is something that gets worked out soon.

I tried on Virgin UK, didn't get the problem. It was only 5 mins test to few numbers.
So looks like it's rather network issue..
I noticed this because I have an account with a "callback" long distance service. It's designed so that I call a designated number, get an intentional busy signal, and then hang up quickly so they can call me back. Once I answer the callback I dial the number I want to reach.
Well now on my Nexus 5 with KitKat, I hang up, but the callback never reaches me because the device has failed to hang up in actual fact. Instead the callback hits my voicemail.
This is on WIND Mobile Canada which can be a bit of a wonky network, but I am also seeing reports from big North American networks like Bell and AT&T.
I have the same problem. It seems to take about 20 seconds of the busy signal after I have hung up before the call disconnects. Its really annoying.
