I tried to download my eBooks from Baen.com in .epub format now that I switched from a WinMobile 6.1 and .lit format. My Captivate blocked the book download and called it a App Download. Any way around this, short of hooking up to my PC?
you can root the phone and enable sideloading. That would take care of all issues with trying to install non market apps.

Hi,
Os there any way to watch movies on www.youku.com other than skyfire and flashlite in Opera?
What I would like to see the most would be downloading tool, that would allow me to download the files onto my phone and watch it with whatever ... Unfortunately I think that youku have changed something in their scripts and most of the ways of downloading files from youku I found in the internet doesn't work. ie. the extension to TCPMP shows an error massage, similarily to many other tools I have found.
The only one that still works is www.clipnabber.com . Unfortuantely it is not very handy to use clipnabber with youku on pocket pc. The reason for it is that youku divides files into parts, and when you want to download a movie, clipnabber shows you ie. 15 different links. On pc it's not a real problem for me, as I use netvampire pro and I can simply drag all 15 links into the drop basket in one move and voila. They all start to download. Then I make a que in subedit player and they play in the right order. On pocket PC I dobn't know any download manager that would be able to do this ....
(Actually this division into smaller parts is a blessing as, when you start downloading 15 files at once, the download is muuuuuuuuuuuch faster then if you tried to do it with one file. )
Is there any kind of tool that would be able NOW to dowload files from this site?
Unfortunitely the best I've found is using opera and downloading them right after the other. Take a lil time but it works and its straight off your phone so no need for syncing. Ive had as many as 6 files downloading at 1 time until the 1st 1 was finished but I put them all in 1 folder and with tcpmp player it'll play them n the order that u add them 2 the playlist and play them back 2 back without delays.
I have just installed Dropbox on both my PCs and on my Desire. This is a great way of synching files between 2 computers without the need for emailing them to yourself or continually copying them between computers.
THe PC version is here:
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTc1MjQzMTQ5
For the Andriod version search 'Dropbox' in the market.
With Dropbox on your Andriod you can access files from your home PC without having to actually have them installed on your device. Never forget a file again and save valuable space on your SD card!
How did I ever manage without it?!
Is it me, or is downloading your documents from the "cloud" a pain in the a$$ half the time ?
I needed to move over 2 13 mb PDF files and 20 min later I still could not access them, I would get errors and I had no choice besides turning on Wi-FI to get the files to read. Even after they are downloaded (the PDF icon says "phone") I select it and get an error "Invalid file path" this is with Adobe's WP7 app.
Is it even possable, with the loads of hacks that is available for Windows Phone 7 to copy/sync documents (Word, Excel, PDF, etc) from a local computer to a Windows Phone 7 device and be able to access them from my phone ?
I know it was not possable a while ago but, now ? Is there any hacks to just have a drag and drop into a folder that syncs with my Phone (does anyone remember the old Breefcase ?) ?
Thanks !
its probably that the adobe reader doesn't support SkyDrive and needs an update. u can try emailing those PDF files to urself and then downloading them.

As that is possable, that didn't answer the question.
Is it possable NOW to sync documents with a PC at this time or is the only method "cloud"/email based ?
The Adobe Reader app is pretty buggy. Restart your phone and the app will work.

Nope. Cloud/email only
You can use this tool to get them onto your device, but Office won't recognise that they're on the device, so you won't be able to open them.
Hi,
I was hoping to use the tab plus as an ebook reader among other things. I noticed that I can't sync it with Calibre. I'm fine with the ebook app on here but how do I side load epub files?
I tried emailing them to myself and seeing if I could download but Gmail says there is no app on the device that can read this file. I know this is not true though.
just copy the files to your tab and import the book from reader
how do I do that? It doesn't seem like I can mount the tab as a mass storage device. All it allows for is MTP mode. This doesn't seem to mount on Mac OSX.
you can use airdroid or any wifi explorer in market to transfer via wifi.... since 7+ used honeycomb it cant be mount as mass storage device.
Great, I'll give that a try thank you!
Um, guys, you know that Calibre has a mini-webserver capability now for the library right?
So... server + wifi + browser = no problem, I even use it with my kobo touch and it's browser and haven't hooked up to my computer for book syncing pretty much since that capability was added.
The only real drawback about the calibre server is that there's no builtin multiple select to download all at once, but I'd never really considered that until just now as I'm usually just pulling one title/document at a time.
Also you can email them to yourself, that's what I do when my cable is not present. Then go into astro (or any file manager would likely work) and move them to the ebook/import folder on the onboard storage. That part might not be necessarily but even if it isn't I just like have my books in the ebook folder.
How do you get to transfer in the easiest way - songs from an android device to a fully unlocked Nokia Lumia 710?
also..
Where do the attachments in my hotmail get saved on my local phone storage? I have fully unlocked L710 and HTC Titan. Someone sent me a few clips attached to hotmail. I can play it from my email attachment but would like to find the folder where it is locally stored after download, and then be able to play the content from Zune. Is there any homebrew app for such file management? I have File Explorer, but don't know where these attachments can be found, then moved so that they are playable in Zune Hub.
this is a great question that I would also like to know the answer to. There has to be some way to mount the storage and manage it from a pc like you can with Android.

I did not really bother trying to find the answer. But someone who uses Android in my family tried to send me a few clips of music that I really really wanted to hear. Now ofcourse I have got it via bluetooth and that I can access. However, he sent a few more by email as my bluetooth transfer was slow. I had presumed I can find these songs in the same place. BUT nope!
However, here is my progress.
File explorer -> Applications data -> Volatile -> Email attachments -> go to each folder. Each folder represents one attachment.
So I was happy after posting this that I found where the attachments are.
However, when I copy and paste the same under my Zune contents, I cannot see it in my Zune Hub and cannot ofcourse play it from Zune hub!
Zune on the phone uses a database of media files. Merely moving your files under \My Documents\Zune\Content\* isn't going to help. The only way that I know of to add arbitrary files is to copy them to the PC, then sync them using the PC Zune software. Nobody has yet figured out how to do it more directly, although I'm sure it's possible.
Mounting the phone as USB Mass Storage is just not even vaguely likely to happen. The amount of driver writing and re-configuration that would be needed... I don't think you realize what you're asking for. There are deinitely options, though; for example, my Root Webserver app lets you browse the phone's filesystem (including uplodaing and downloading files) from your PC. You just have to use a web browser instead of a traditional file manager.

That does add some light to the scenario! Thanks!
So does that mean that even though we do have homebrew file explorers, we cannot really control our attachments i.e. sandbox issue? I have realised in last two days that our file explorer functionally isn't same as those traditional WM6.5 or Android ones. Hence theoratically speaking yes we do have file explorer but not to its full functionality..which leads me to another question. So ideally what do you use your file explorer for?
Aside from aiding my research and testing my hacks, here are a few things I use file browsers for:
Copying ebook files (.MOBI and .PRC) to the Kindle directory.
Manually editing the Marketplace configuration files (for example, some downloads are even bigger than the 200 MB that Marketplace Config will allow you to specify).
Freeing up space on the phone's storage (deleting temprorary files of my choosing, rather than simply purging the whole phone).
Backing up application data to my PC.
Turning music files into ringtones/alarms/etc.
A number of these can currently be automated using apps, and there are others that could be more useful to other people, but that's what I've found to be useful.
Content Transfer
Well I have been in same situation , I went with wifi transfer option, caz its quite secured and helpful for content transfer, like you can use smartIO App, which is good op
