Hey everyone!
Hope you can help me
I have a HTC touch cellphone, I think the 3470. Well it turns out that I usually take a bath with music so I take it with my cell in the bathroom, but now something happen and the "on/off" button (the one on the top of the cell) doesn't work, please can you help me guys? I'm a Medicine student so I'm out of home all day and I need that my battery last and now I had to keep my screen on the whole time, because if I turn it off I can't use my phone until someone calls or texts me.
Thanks a lot! Ill be really gratefull
Well, first off, why would you bathe with an electronic?
Anyhow, I would try to do a hard reset on it, if that doesn't work re-flash back to a stock ROM. If to no avail, you have most likely gotten your phone moister damaged and the power button shorted out. But, on the upside, if you do have a Pharos, your most likely ready for an upgrade because that's a pretty dated phone. You can always try taking it apart and replacing the damaged piece.
It must be water problems.
Try this little trick:
Put your phone in a bowl or glass, and fill it with rice.
Then let i stand in the sun.
The heat should make the water evaporate and the rice should absorb it.
I have never had the "chance" to test it myself, but I have heard about it.
Let us know if it really works
Hai everybody, i am a new member to forums, so i am intereseted
and want to gain knowledge on this topics..........................thank u

My fault entirely, but I dropped my HTC Fuze in the toilet...
Well, I pulled it out and popped out the battery and quickly dried it up as well as I could. I exposed as much as I could and let it sit to dry for a couple of days. Now, it turns on and it runs perfectly fine, the only problem is that the flashlight stays on, and does not turn off no matter what I do. Don't know what to expect to accomplish by posting this here, but maybe some of you have any ideas?
I've been trying to open it up and see if anything looks weird, but I don't have a screwdriver small enough...
Eh, no suggestions as to what I could do?
That's really weird. But weird things always happens when electronic devices are dropped in water!
I would try nuelight: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=456908 and see if that shuts it off. Otherwise, you may as well take out the LED light physically.
Out of curiosity is it on normal or extra bright and how long has it been on for without burning out? I use my light quite alot and am rather paranoid about frazzling it.... A personal message would be extra helpful as i may not check this thread again
Many thanks.
whenever you subject ANY electronic device to moisture follow this suggestion - Ive seen it fully revive seemingly dead electronics:
Remove batt/power ASAP!
Remove as much moisture by hand as you can
Put device in the fridge for AT LEAST 3 days before attempting to power it up again. the fridge will wick all moisture out of your phone/mp3 player/etc much as it will fully crustify your loaf of bread.
Be patient! firing it up early will not help...
also putting it in a bowl of rice helps
i used a blowdryer on an old samsung years ago and it worked for about 8 months then apparently rusted up inside after going in a pool

Sounds like it works, would it work a couple weeks after the original fall into water though? I thought it was dead, but after sitting in front of a fan full blast, it turns on just fine, but the flashlight just comes on and stays on. Even if the phone is off and just the battery is in it, the flashlight comes on and stays on. I could easily use it like this, but the battery life is another pain.

I heard about putting it in cat litter. I don't have cats though. Hah, eight months is better than nothing, eh?

True. It pissed me off because I had just been watching Dane Cooks new comedy where he says... "I just joined the 'I just dropped my phone in my own piss' club." There was nothing in the toilet when it decided to take a dip, but still... Hah. I was trying to take out the LED light, but I couldn't even break through the shell. I realized that I need tiny tools to do so. I was also looking for a place I can order replacement parts, but if I can't get into it, that'd be a waste of time. I was just going to try to let the LED burn itself out, but until then I'd still not be able to use it, battery life is awful.
Hi guys, I really need your help
I was on a BBQ with my friends, when they have just made a slutty with me...
They threw me on the pool with my fuze into shorts pocket, when I got up the pool my fuze was turned off, and I didn't try to turn it on, until pass the time and dry the wather.
So, I keept it in the sun around the place, and when I arrived home, I made around 5 sections of using hairdryer, and 3 days later I turned it on, and yes! IT WORKED!
I have heard about decreasing life cycle of the eletronics when wather gets around it, so, I am terrify about it, Would anybody be able to inform me if it is real? I like my fuze, and I would not like break down it. What sould I do?
Regards
Henrique
BAD NEWS!!! you need to remove all moisture from that phone!
Get RICE (several kinds if possible) and put them in a bowl or better yet a tupperware container. keep that phone in that container whenver you are not using it to keep it dry. The rice will absorb the moisture in the phone and prevent or slow the corrosion. Consider yourself lucky
Thank you Casseti.
I will follow your steps, I have another cell phone to use, How much time do you think I would have to do it?
Because I can do it right now, and leave it into the container until necessary.
Or did you say to use my fuze and do it everyday when I am not using it(sleeping for example)?
I'd like to solve it as soon as possible, I cannot beak down my fuze
Thanks
...you did get some good advice about using the rice.
The real trick is to indeed do what you can to get ALL of the mosture out of the unit. If you don't, then in a couple of weeks parts will start to corrode and the thing will start to fail.
took a dive 2 times in a lake on the way home from an xmas party
with my x1 and my ipod touch in the pocket
when I got up I tried to turn on my x1 and all it did was to turn on the "flash"
took out the batt and put them in the most dry place which was not all that dry
when I got home I put them on the radiator for 12hours and
the ipod was dead apart from showing the apple logo for a few sec
when connecting it to usb
and the x1 was flickery and the screen didn't respond to touch
so I put them both under rice on the radiator for 24hours
and then they both came to life
as good as before as part from the keys on x1 need a bit more pressure then before
Thank you all for advices...
I will leave it buried for 24hs into a tupperware full of rice, It is working very well, but I will do it to avoid corroding my fuze
thanks
Ive had this happen to me alot actually and my fuze comes back everytime. take the battery out and do as they instructed you to do, me... i have a room that stays at over 120 degree's. i just wipe it down with alchohol and let it dry out for an hour or two.. usually my screen needs to be realigned. and i have a seidio case and screen protectors.. trust me these phones are pretty well built.
Make sure you use uncooked rice.
My Fuze spent over an hour submerged in a ziploc bag filled with ice water at a Marilyn Manson concert. I had my phone/wallet/etc. in a separate ziploc bag to keep them dry in one of those soft bag coolers, with two ziploc bags of ice in it and some dickhead fell on the bag and the icewater burst from the two bags and managed to more or less flood the then broken bag with my phone in it.
When I noticed, the LED flash was blinking and the phone was otherwise off. I got really pissed and when I got home, I took the battery & micro SDHC card out and slid the keypad out and dried it as best I could, then let it sit for 36 hours in a dry environment, put the battery & micro SDHC card back in, tried turning it on, and BAM! Worked like a charm. That incident pretty much made me an HTC for life person. I am impressed with the build quality of this device. I love you, HTC!
ok i got my phone wet what do i do i put it in the rice
I've heard that works, I don't know how long you keep it in there.
Take the battery out and do not try to turn it on or it will like short circuit or something like that.
/my little knowledge.
well i did turn it off and then back on
Put it in rice for a day or so.
will that fix the button issue
Most likely. The button problem is caused by water completing the circuit between the button and the point of contact, so putting your SK in the rice will almost certainly fix your problem (just be sure to be patient and wait a day or two).
worst comes to worst buy on on ebay for 75 bucks
thank you guys u made me feel so much better
well it didnt fix it
you gotta wait a few days man now its probably done-zo
what you mean
you have to let it sit in rice for a couple days, the water will cause corrosion and over time will mess up the circuits, rice will dry it out over the course of a few days then it would be fine but if you pump electric through it you can cause things to permanently be damaged
If you are some what mechanically inclined, you can disassemble your phone so it can completely dry. All you will need is a micro screw driver set (usually find at hardware or tool store) and youtube has a good collection of dis-assembly videos. The proper way to service a water damaged smart phone would be to disassemble and place in an ultrasonic cleaner with alcohol or other chemical to remove water. Might check your local area for a phone repair shop, they usually have all the tools to get your phone repaired correctly so you don't end up with a button that doesn't work or worst problems later on from corrosion. Hope this helps
im confussed
What blk2dr is saying is that over time, the water can cause damage to your phone (if it isn't dried quickly). He recommends that, if you think you are able, you should take your phone apart so that it can dry faster.
If you aren't confident in your ability to take your phone apart and put it back together, I recommend you just slide the screen up, take the battery cover off, remove the battery and SIM card (and microSD if you have one in there), and put it back in the rice.
How long did you keep your SK in the rice the first time?
over night i tired it when i woke up and it still didnt work
Perhaps there is some water left.Maybe it condensed. Try taking it apart and see if there are any drops left. Also don't get tempted to use a hair drier since it cpuld melt some circuits and wire connections.
Sent from my Optimus Me using xda premium
i think the phone is trashed the battery and the phones water thingy is red
listen, of course its red, but you needed to let it sit in the rice longer, its not going to dry out in 12 hours
its going to take days, and by trying it over and over youre just doing more damage
i will try it tomorrow morning
Yes....I spilled rubbing alcohol on my phone. I was cleaning it and the battery was out.
I put it under a hairdryer for about 5 minutes and powered it on but there's a stain on the top corner of my LCD.
I did a Google search and people have suggested putting it in rice ???
Is this a good idea or does someone have a better suggestion ?
It seems that rice really does fix the problem, as weird as it sounds, perhaps its very absorbent as it's very dry, I have no clue.
However as it is rubbing alcohol it should go away in a matter of 2 days or 3. Whatever you do please don't open it from the inside, as it might make matters worse!
Don't use the hair dryer any more I wouldn't suggest that.
All you can hope for is that it didn't eat away the screen or anything like that.
Turning it off would be suggested and also removing the battery, just in case.
Posting a picture of the phone would also be of great help. I hope your phone gets fixed.
I thought heat would make the alcohol evaporate more quickly.... it apparently didn't work.
In order to take a picture of the stain I would need to power it on. I'd rather not power it on now....
I also added a few packs of silica I had laying around. Not sure how long i should let it sit.
Time, patience
You're very lucky however that the phone is intact and works.
Try to consume time by doing something else, check out the XDA forums
Because this process will take some time in order to actually work, I hope the best for your phone.
and NO, heat may cause problems. Cool air is OK though, but not now. Now it's preferable that it's to be left alone untouched.
Give it time... a day or more.
so yesterday i left my phone on the charger over the night and when i woke up i took the phone and saw some white screen blinking a few times and then it died. black screen but the flashlight started blinking like crazy , even if i turn off the phone it still blinks somehow and the device was rly like rly hot, couldnt hold it in the hands how hot it was. the thing is , water got throu the windows somehow and proly got a few drops or more xd on charger and phone itself. so couse it would stop blinking i just left it on the bad like that , couse i was kinda late for work. when i got back home , the phone was off , proly the battery died so i put it on the charger and then it started blinking again untill i disconnect the charger. but it wont turn on now for some reason , maybe the battery is so dead that it doesnt have the power to turn on even on charger with all that blinking flashlight, i cant leave it on charger couse it gets hot again . So do u guys think this can be fixed ? couse i would reather give 400e to get it fixed then buy a new one, i have somethings on device that i rly need back. sry for bad english and thanks
You didn't say why you think water is the cause and how water might have got near the phone; although you've mentioned the window, I am assuming it was raining.
So if water really got into the phone, then it's no surprise why your device gets hot, there are probably some short circuits.
And as for the repair part, the only thing you should NOT do is to try to turn on the phone, in other words, DO NOT ATTEMPT to turn on the phone or charge the device, leave it turned off and uplugged, the more you try, the more short circuit and more issues.
To be honest, you shouldn't have tried even the first day, but we all make mistake, so it's okay.
And about what you can do...
Well, there are some methods that might work, but I would say they wouldn't work most of the times.
You can leave the phone in a rice bag for a long period of time, if you're going to do that, leave it for a few DAYS, don't turn on the phone for at least a week, I am saying this because some people think a day is more than enough, but it's not and it needs to be there for like a week, but as I said it probably not going to work.
Next thing you can do is to buy some kits(it's like a plastic bag) that are available online specifically to dry out a phone, I'm not sure how good they are, but...it might worth a try depending on your preference.
One suggestion though, if you are going to try the rice method or the drying kit/bag, I would say take out the sim card tray, it makes it easier and faster to dry out, however you should be very careful as rice can get inside the phone very easily without the sim tray.
And lastly, I would strongly suggest visiting a professional repair shop, it's the best option and you have a higher chance of getting your device back.
And I would like to mention all of what I have said is because we are assuming water is the cause, so if it's something else, we need to investigate further.
I hope you get your device back and also I hope someone suggests a better solution than mine.
Cheers.

thanks for ur help bro , i tried the rice but for a day, just like u said..
So i kinda couldnt w8 for a replay so i disassembled it xD and im prty sure its water , found some white stains on the motherboard and lcd connectors and im kinda hoping that it will work just fine after i clean those , but thing that scares me the most is some burn marks on some burn marks on some aliminium on the edge, dont rly know what it is , but theres something inside and the things inside look fine , i dont have 99 alch now , so tummorow ill try to clean the phone and leave it for a few hours and then try to turn it on , if its the same ill get it to repair shop in a weak or so couse i dont have time now.. dont worry ill check the answers next time be4 i do smth stupid like this xd
thanks again
I hope it works fine after cleaning it, but I didn't say a day, I've actually said do it for a week at least and a day IS NOT ENOUGH.
Water damage is a little tricky and hard to guess what might come next, so the result of cleaning it or being repaired at professional repair shop isn't something that somebody can guess, even not experts, so I just hope it goes well.
