Galaxy S i900 - Delete recent message contacts? - General Questions and Answers

Anyone got any ideas how you can delete the contacts that rack up in your 'recent contacts' list in text messages.
Thank youuuu.

Manually go in and delete each one. I believe by long pressing the screen. I don't totally understand your question so if im wrong please correct me or re-state

I mean when you send a text message the contact you have sent it to will appear in the "recent contacts" drop box, I've tried long holding but nothing seems to happen?

It took me a while to figure this out also but here it is.
The recent list you see under the messaging app is compiled from your history in the contacts app.
So open up contacts. Click over to the history tab. Hit menu and selected Delete. From here check off all the items which involve the number you're trying to remove from Recent and delete them. If you deleted all of the entries, you can click back over to the messaging app and when you go to recent the offending number should be gone. If not go back to the Contacts History tab and be sure you didn't miss an entry.
It's annoying and tedious but it solves your problem. Good Luck.

Text Message Inbox Empty, but shows over 1,000 items

I am an admitted text addict. That out of the way, I have a Touch Pro from Sprint. It runs the original WM6.1 that came with it. After a thousand texts or so to the same person, the threaded eventually empties itself and comes up blank. I figured I'd just empty my text inbox and start clean but it says down in the status bar that there are some 1,890 items left in the inbox. Even though the list is empty and shows nothing. I've rolled my conversation with the person probably twice before (emptying itself and starting from scratch). Any ideas on how to empty the hidden items or fix the glitch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jim
get sktools and delete the message database

auto delete old sms

I think my inbox for text messages is full because I am getting an error message saying there is not enough memory to download the incoming message. Is there any way to set the phone to auto delete the oldest messages when new ones come in? and is there a way to get the messages that couldn't be downloaded? The only thing i have been able to find is someone said go to the messages tab, click all messages, then menu - tools; and at this point I get lost because there is no tools option on the pop up menu screen.
Look up SMSCleaner in the marketplace, it does what you want for only $0.99! I'm glad someone finally made an app like that

Go to new sms messages

Sorry if this has been asked, but is there a way that when you open the messages app it goes to the new messages rather than your last screen? It seems silly that the phone knows I have new messages to view, but instead takes me to the last message I was in.
You can try using alternative SMS apps and see if they have a feature like that.
I know GO SMS (and handcent and others) have a notification pop up when someone texts you. Pressing on that pop up would bring you to that particular SMS thread.

[Q] Unlinking linked contacts

I have several otherwise unrelated contacts in my phone, all of which originated with my Outlook address book, which have somehow become linked . I cannot find any way to unlink them. Can anybody help?
Go to contatcs and press the menu button. You will get a menu where you have a text saying 'linked contacts'. You can unlink there. I'm talking about the stock rom.

[Q] Android 4.1.2 AOSP Contacts / SMS Messaging issue, HELP

Hello! I've got strange problem, something gone wrong in SMS app and I can't send messages to one of contacts. It says that recipient is invalid. That recipient is ABC for example. It looks ABC <123456789> in SMS app instead of just ABC like other mesaging threads. When i open message thread and manually select ABC from contacts, SMS is sent, but when I exit to threads view, recipient is replaced to ABC <123456789> again, so when I try to write message again, error appears again too.
I tried to remove conversation, delete contact and add it again, but no success. Even if contact is fully removed from SIM, Google and Phone, and SMS / Contacts apps data were cleared, when I try to send message using only contact number, it appears in messages still as ABC <12345678>, in other 3rd party apps like chompSMS the contact shows as unknown/number only (correct), when I call this number, it shows as number only too, so what the hell with stock sms app (with all data cleared)? I tried to format cache partition, nothing changed. When I add the same number to contacts and name it for example XYZ, and then select option to send sms directly from contacts menu, SMS app is opening with recipient field filled as... ABC <123456789>.
Only factory reset helped, but the problem may occur again, and what then?
Another symptom is that inside SMS app the contact (even if added to contacts) shows as face with question mark (like unknown / not added contact) but without that small triangle in the bottom-right corner (when I touch, nothing appears, normally the menu with contact options like "Add to contacts" should appear).
Phone is Android 4.1.2, no root, stock AOSP ROM.
