Just curious if possible when you unlocked the GSM radio on the Sprint or Verizon TP2. Is it possible to get all features i.e. 3G..etc to work on Tmobile?
sorry if this is a dumb question but considering the price difference between the TMO TP2 and Verizon it would be much cheaper to buy it and just get it unlocked for TMO.
The Verizon version is as easy to unlock as calling Verizon and asking for the unlock code (they'll redirect you to another department that deals with that type of thing).
After that, you should be able to use it on both AT&T and TMobile, or any other GSM provider.. but you won't get 3G speeds, only 2G/EDGE, since the TP2 doesn't include the 2100Mhz band that TMobile and AT&T use for their 3G.

Actually, AT&T uses 850 and 1900 for 3G, T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100.

Really? My bad, I was taught that they both utilized 2100Mhz.. if you're correct, and I believe you are, then the TP2 (and even the storm, which supports 850/1900Mhz) can utilize 3G on AT&T?
The CDMA Touch Pro2 will get 3G in Europe:
HSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
(found it here: http://www.htcwiki.com/page/HTC+Touch+Pro2+(CDMA))
T-Mobile has some weird-ass thing going on with their 3G that you need 1700 and 2100 on your phone, so you can count that out.
Basically, you can unlock it. The only problem you'll have is no 3G. The big question... will you be able to make it roam on Sprint?

It is that easy to get the code....but you need to be a Verizon customer for 60 days or more (probably to stop stuff like this, if I had to guess). I really don't know what they would do if you bought it outright though. If worst comes to worst, you can get it unlocked somewhere for like $10.

This is what I learned today, read post 21 gents:
Before anyone laughs at me, I am not exactly a noob. I have flashed custom roms, added al kinds of cabs, and done a ton of playing around with my phones all the way back to my treo 700 wx. That being said, I have done a ton of reading and searching and I find information is ambiguous at best or contradictory at worst. As I understand it it is possible to use sprint tp2 on us gsm networks for voice and text. As far as 3g information goes that is where the info gets clouded. Is it possible to get 3g on say tmobile with an unlocked sim?

Voice and sms, fine but no 3G. T-Mobile USA's 3G is on 1700mhz band. Sprint TP2 does not do 1700mhz GSM/UMTS.
You can get data just not at 3g speeds.
Thanks guys
Hello,
I have a T-Mobile G1 and I am using AT&T. I know that it cant use at&t's 3g because of the different brands but I was wondering. Would it be possible to use T-mobiles 3G but still be on AT&T network? That way you have 3G and you dont have to do any hardware modding or nothing.
Thanks guys
Bump please
hey everybody. if this question is in the wrong place, mods/admins please move to correct thread section.
i am i need of phones that will work on the Rogers hspa 3g network in canada. i right now have a tmobile hd2 running android 2.3 and i got my wife a tmobile mytouch 3g running android 2.2. but from the information i found we will not get the 3g band because the phones 3g frequencies are wrong. can anybody help me confirm that? we right now use them but they are only on the 2g band and our reception is pretty terrible right now. if that is the case can anybody tell me if at&t phones operate 3g on the right frequency for rogers? thanks allot.
im specifically wanting to know if the Samsung Captivate S will work on rogers 3g. thanks!(but if somebody can tell me if most at&t 3g phones will work on rogers that would be greatly appreciated. thanks!)
chk Nexus S
Check out Nexus S ...might be available soon in canada for rogers
yeah the nexus s looks nice, but i still need to know if at&t and rogers operate on the same 3g band. because the tmobile phones we have do not work on the rogers 3g.....
Hello folks.
I have Nexus S from T-Mobile since its release. I tried using it on Rogers, but to find out it's only 2G. Rogers does not support 1700 MHz AWS band. I know that only Wind Mobile and Mobilicity in Canada support it.
Is there a way to get this baby working on Rogers network at 3G speeds? Or is it a total miss on this one, and I'm gonna have to sell it to US folks for cheap?
If there is a way, please explain it thoroughly. I greatly appreciate any help, or link(s) to help!
Cheers,
