Text Message Tone - Captivate General

Is there anyway to change the text message tone to one of the other notification sounds on the phone? I cannot find a way...

Open Messaging, then open the menu (leftmost soft button, beside the Home key) and go to settings. The option's in there, near the bottom.

add a folder called notifications to the /sdcard/ root.
put your WAV, MP3, whatever there and it will show up on the list of possible txt notification sounds

It's also possible to create custom ringtones/text message tones using ringdroid from the marketplace.

Hmm this didn't seem to work for me does it rewrite a reboot?

I have also had zero luck with adding custom tones to the list of available sms and email tones.

Do this then restart your phone, the notifications will then appear in the list.

This worked perfectly thanks a ton. It seems my mistake was naming my folder "sounds".

what worked for me was to create a folder on /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones (or /notifications or /alarm). Then when you place mp3's in there the media scanner will pick them up and put them in the list.

Check out this app. Total replacement for the standard sms. You can even set individual text notifications, ranging from pop ups, tones, status bar icons, etc.

Remove clicking sounds

wm2005 is really a big step forward. However, I have a big problem with the clicking sounds when you choose a menu or an application. I wanted to remove those 2 sounds, but that's impossible since these are in Rom.
I can't find anything how to remove this hoorible clicks. I hope that someone has a suggestion.
thx
Why don't you just uncheck sounds fo "Events (warnings, system events) from the Sounds and Notifications in the Personal Settings?
I'm wondering if it's possible to change that clicking sound to another sound of my choice . . . Can any of the Tech Guru's Please Help ?
There is a way, you would have to search your device for the original sounds, back them up and override them with your own.
as long as you know the name of the sound you want to change; it's possible. for me, i changed the normal beep sound when the "G" icon comes up after a soft reset (GPRS). the name of that sound is "default". what i did was took a wav file i wanted to use, from my laptop i renamed it to "default", copied and pasted it to the windows folder of my unit. there will be a menu pop-up question saying something like "the file "default" already exists, do you want to replace it?" click ok and there you go; the default sound is different. the other built in sounds can be seen when you go to your sounds and notifications folder. example; the activesync sound can be changed by choosing from the drop down menu. these are the built in sounds; you can change the actual wav file by putting in a sound with the same name (like the one i did for the default sound). i think what you can't do is change the name of the built in sound...
hope that helps.
Yes , thank-you guys it works Gr8 . Only thing is that you need to use another file explorer like Resco etc etc if you want to replace the system sound cuz the built in Explorer won't allow it .
Cheers Sean

FUZE Ring Tone Program?

Is there a program that will allow ring tones to be used for other events? My wife can use all her ringtones to change every last person to a different tone! (not that that is TOO annoying!) but she can only use the standard tones for all the other events. Is there a program that will make them show up in the drop down menu? An I allopogize if there is some kind of term that this is all called and I did not use it to search. The searches I did use didnt show anything for this...Thank You!
yes, you can do it. you do not need any extra software to do this.
move the media (.mp3 or .wav) files to this directory and they will appear in the drop down menu:
application data\sounds
the drop down menu is the settings --> sounds menu --> notifications
it is also possible to edit the registry to have it point to a different folder when i looks for your 'tones'

You can also just copy them to \Windows\.

Put mp3 into "My Documents\My Ringtones" for RingTone
Put mp3 into "My Documents\" for SMS Tone

you can also just put the mp3s onto the root folder of your sd card, then you can choose those mp3s as ringtones in sound & display...

Notification sounds ??

Can you add your own notification sounds, and if so, where do they go ?
And what format ?
Thanks .......
Nevermind, found it ........
I'm in the same boat. I know where the menu option is for changing notifications, but none of my personal audio files are on the list. I do have mp3s and wavs in a "ringtones" directory of the sd and they do show up as choices for changing ringtones but not notifications.
If you "found it" can you please post the location and format information for notification tones.

Personalizing notification tones for specific applications is usually done through the application. For example; if you want a different notification for text messages then go to your text messaging application and use the menu to change options within the application.
You can go as far as to set a different notification for each email account. You must go to the desired account and access the settings menu for that specific account. From there you can change the notification sound.
Settings -> Sound & Display -> Notification ringtone
These can be in mp3 format. I personally use the Ringdroid app to create them.
if you're asking where the files should be placed on your phone, I put all mine in "/sdcard/media/audio" and there are specific spots for "alarms" "notifications" and "ringtones"

Custom Notification Tones/Sms Tones

I dont know if this has been posted before, If it has then my bad I just thought of this method.
1st. Go on the market and download a free app called " Zedge "
2nd. Open Zedge and select " Notifacation Sounds "
3rd. Select a random one because we are going to replace it. (I selected Law And Order) you will see a arrow down near the bottom press that and it will download
4th. Close Zedge and connect usb to computer " Mass Storage "
5th. Navigate to " zedge\notification_sounds "
6th. In the folder you should see a mp3 file, in my case its called "Law And Order_1.mp3" Depending on what tone u downloaded on zedge your file name might be different.
7th. Now copy the file name in " zedge\notification_sounds " and replace the name of the mp3 you made with the name of the mp3 in " zedge\notification_sounds ".
EXAMPLE: Txt tone.mp3 changed to Law And Order_1.mp3
8th. Drag and drop the tone u just renamed into " zedge\notification_sounds "
Select Copy/Replace
9th. Disconnect the phone and go into Settings/Sounds/Notification ringtone
10th. When you select Notification ringtones you will get a pop up saying Android System or Zedge ringtones. Choose Zedge ringtones
DO NOT CHECK "Use by default for this action"
11th. Lastly select the file name and press "Set Ringtone"
In my case I selected "Law And Order"
I usually just place whatever sound file I want on the internal SD in an existing folder called Media> Audio> Ringtones (or Notifications). Then it will always show up in Settings> Sounds> Phone Ringtone.
Or am I missing something?
I use handcent sms, Like zedge it gives you the option to choose it in settings/sounds/ringtones or notification, with that you can choose music anywhere on your phone, it's all there in one list, no file swapping.
Zedge is actually easier to use than that.
After you find the one you want, tap on his and there will be a down arrow (download). Once downloaded, the arrow turns into a cicle which you can tap on to set as w/e you like. Same process for the wallpaper

I didnt know about that method, my phone never created those folders. But I just tested that and it worked so thats a better method then going threw zedge. Nice find

You know what- I never thought about it until now that you mentioned it...I think the file was a remnant of an old backup I did to the EXT SD one time and it never got cleaned out. Funny that it was accidental find.
That explains why I was having dupe ringtone issues a while back. *facepalm* lol
I'm pretty sure stock ROMs (at least Eclair) don't let you change the text tone for yourself. I remember looking a few thousand times to no avail before I flashed Andromeda. From then on, I've been able to use any tone on my SD card.
I use Whoisit for the same thing, an all around great ringtone manager that sets a different tone for each persons sms, mms, email, and call plus VIP section so set people will ring through even if the phone is on silent. Not to mention it covers FB status, Scheduling profiles, wifi on of with profile. plus setting the stock ringtones and notifications to anything you want.
