I know there are lots of morphs and themes already, but....(and you could do morphs of those, but I prefer pushing apk´s )
Here my new smoked widgets.
Tested on CM7... / Nexus One
- Twitter 2.0 white text & gingerbread style statusbar notification icon
- CalendarWidget [CalendarProvider] with 3D text
- Facebook 151 with 3D text

For different devices or Roms: better adb push apk´s and check right after each one how/if it works.
If it does not work, push orriginal apk. (´cause here people started flashing zip´s without Nandroid )

Very cool! Thanks for these!
All working perfectly in LeoFroYo ROM except the CalendarProvider.apk, nor-matter how I push or set the permission for this, it just won't appear the widget.
The others smoked widgets is perfect nice.
Edit: Small bugs in the Twitter (small) widget, the "t" logo is missing.

Google search is in (ADW)Launcher(2).apk...so a morph is better for that.
And for each launcher you need a different morph....
I will wait till CM gets final to do that....
And you just adb push the apk´s...but you may try to install with an explorer or copy it, but check to set the same permissions. ( I did not try that )
Rori,
I love these, however, I've started using a new ROM and recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I've given up trying to get ADB to work.
Can I just pull the working APK off my phone, unpack these APK files, and overwrite the files in the original app with them? If not, how else can I get these to work?
I was using your black Twitter widget forever, but I really want this new smoked one (might switch back and forth between it and black, depending on which one I like more). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Just copy your APK and paste it into the same directory? Last time I did that it showed the two of them next to each other. I'm willing to try again, though. So if I've got you right:
1. Match perms on the two APK's
2. Copy your APK and put it into /system/app
3. Reboot
Right?

Yes..but all in /system/app/
I did what you said, but it didn't work =S Your file just overwrote what was there, completely, which broke it, I assume.
Twitter not even showing up in my list of applications, now, either. I'll have to reinstall it... which will put it in /data/app probably. Does it make a difference where it is?
EDIT: Moving it to /system/app and renaming it just broke it.
Grr.
Can you just make an update.zip that I can flash in recovery? hehe! I would if I knew how =P
EDIT: Installed Twitter again and moved it to /system/app and renamed it to Twitter.apk -- cleared cache/dalvik and rebooted, it's working now from /system/app -- now how do I go about getting your theme working with it? Last time I tried overwriting the apk it just broke it.

That´s a good question..
You tried: deinstall yours....
Code:
adb shell rm /system/app/Twitter.apk
search in data/dalvik-cache.. & data/data..if there´s anything to clear...then install smoked apk.
Success!
I feel like an idiot now.
Since my adb doesn't work, this is what I did (I should have done this from the beginning, I think I was making it harder than I needed to).
1. Removed every file on the phone (including cache) related to Twitter.
2. Put your Twitter.apk in /system/app and set perms
3. Rebooted
Thanks for your guidance.
It looks really good, too.
A personal thanks to you and others that spend time making this cool stuff.
Dammit I love this phone.

Any chance you can try to get the messenging app over? I'd try to push it, but I don't have a copy of the H-build one.
I'm referring to the H-build one with the dark bg and white text.
Not work on ADP1.5H
Can someone reupload it Rapidshare says its been downloaded to many times.
Can you upload that clicker.apk? I already have the HTC_IME running on JF1.5 but the calibration is the only thing missing

I keep running the bat files but it keeps saying device not found. Am I doing something wrong.
EDIT: This mod has been integrated directly into the Fresh 2.1.2 ROM, thus, to date, I have yet to update it as a standalone MetaMorph / Zip.
Based on popular demand, I decided to take a look at the Vanilla Lockscreen today, to see if there was a way to remove the majority of text from the screen, so that all you are left with, for the most part, is the slider bar for screen unlock and the slider bar for volume on/off.
It turned out to be quite an undertaking, and required some significant code modifications, and unfortunately, a single hex edit to an XML file, meaning the mod is spread across 2 files, rather than my goal of 1. But, having said this, I am pleased to announce my efforts were not in vain.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, a completely clear Vanilla lockscreen for your enjoyment . Special thanks to flipzmode for the original format fix on the vanilla lockscreen. My starting point for working on this fix was the android.policy.jar file containing flipz's fix for the formatting, emergency call, as well as the menu key unlock disable.

First, if you are currently running the stock HTC Lockscreen, if you wish to move to the Vanilla lockscreen, after flashing one of the options below, you will need to move your HTC Lockscreen out of the way, via adb, by doing the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.apk HtcLockScreen.bak
exit
This will NOT delete your stock lockscreen, rather, simply move it out of the way, so that if you want to move back to the stock lockscreen, you can also undo your change:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.bak HtcLockScreen.apk
exit
As mentioned, above, the fix is across two framework files, 'android.policy.jar', as well as the 'keyguard_screen_tab_unlock.xml' file in the \res\layout folder of the 'framework-res.apk' file.
Attention: Since you are changing a core android framework file, after flashing, your Dalvik cache will get rebuilt, so rebooting will take some time, based on the number of apps you have installed. Be patient and watch your logcat.
So, here are your 2 options.
Option #1
Option #1's flashable zip contains BOTH files. Flash this for a completely clear vanilla lockscreen ONLY if you have not made any other changes (themes) within your framework-res.apk file (custom taskbar), as the zip will return this file back to stock, with the exception of my fix for the lockscreen.
Vanilla Lockscreen No Text Complete <---Only flash if you are running stock theme from Fresh 2.0d.
Option #2
Option #2's flashable zip contains the 'android.policy.jar' file ONLY. Flash this to make the primary framework file change:
Vanilla Lockscreen No Text Jar Only <---This is the .jar file only.
Then, after flashing the jar file only, you will need to manually edit your 'framework-res.apk' file, by placing the file below in the framework-res.apk's '\res\layout\' folder.
keyguard_screen_tab_unlock.xml.txt<---Remove .txt extension after downloading.
Code:
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk .
Open 'framework-res.apk' with WinRar or 7zip, navigate to the '\res\layout\' folder, and drag and drop the above XML into this folder. Close up the file, then:
Code:
adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework
adb reboot
If you are running a different ROM, other than stock espresso Fresh 2.0d, then Option #2 presented above is your best course of action, so as to not mess up your existing taskbar, etc.
Also, it should be noted, this does not contain any of the Alarm clock changes, etc, necessary when you are using the Vanilla lockscreen. Please see Flipz's site for flashing the needed files if you are NOT already running the Vanilla lockscreen and don't want to have alarm clock disable issues.
EDIT: If you prefer an opaque (non-transparent) black background, rather than the default / semi-transparent, please see here.
EDIT 2: If you are a MetaMorph user, thanks to danaff37 for putting together a few MetaMorphs of my mod that you can use as well.
EDIT 3: New version posted which allows for a background wallpaper image instead, see here.
EDIT 4: See this post to remove the haptic feedback after having first flashed your desired vanilla version above.
sweeeeeeeeeeeet! I just wish the HTC clock/weather widget updated under the lock screen

I'm not sure that it's a "popular" request just something I was asking Konikub about and he had agreed that he didn't like it either. It just seems to cause a bit of a lag when unlocking my phone. If it's something that cannot be done without a lot of work I will live with it.

For me, it defeats the point / goal of what I wanted to achieve, i.e. seeing clear through to the desktop behind the lockscreen, with nothing obstructing the view...
I changed the application Calendar mainly for myself. Those brown wooden colors...
I would first have to thank you user agentdr8 for his deodex, again.

VZW Tab - Calendar
Hey guys, I backed up my calendar.apk , and odex, and then deleted them and installed the new touchwiz calendar.apk It didnt work(which is ok) I then deleted touchwiz calendar.apk , and odex , and replaced it with the original calendar.apk and odex, and rebooted my system. My calendar is still showing up with no wood border, and whenever i try to access "calendars(in order to choose which calendars I want to display) it force closes. Can anyone help me out, maybe send me all the original apk's and odex files for calendar?
[email protected]
I don't know if Buzz mentioned on his first post, but the file posted most likely will only work on GSM tabs. The CDMA tabs (Sprint/Verizon) seem to have different framework files so both the modified Calendar and Contacts apks posted won't work. I asked one individual to send me the framework files from his Sprint tab but haven't heard back. If you'd like to volunteer your framework files and your calendar.apk and .odex, I can probably deodex them for you and put BF's modified pngs into it.
Does your Verizon tab have different calendar apps installed? The GSM-based ones have just TouchWizCalendar.apk/odex, but you mention a Calendar.apk/odex?
Hi,
Just wanting to say, mod is awesome - clean and simple
Just curious though - have you simply removed/replaced the images in the apks or have there been other tweaks..?
Having noticed that the Dialer pane in Contacts, Launcher, Mail and Camera don't scale as screen density increases. Would altering these apps so that they scale be do-able?
Thanks

Hi,
Just wanting to say, mod is awesome - clean and simple
Just curious though - have you simply removed/replaced the images in the apks or have there been other tweaks..?

Region doesn't matter.
How: e.g. contacts.apk
open contacts.apk with winrar, and u will see inside some folders.
All image files are always in res folder. U can unzip res folder to desktop and inside res folders are subfolders like drawable, drawable-hdpi...
there u have all images from apk. Im sure u know how to see image size and image formats (jpg, png..)
Than check what do u want to change, take one of your pics, resize it to same size, rename in same name as original and replace with existing one. Easy...
After editing just put new image back into folder in rar.
Navigate to eg. drawable-hdpi in winrar and put inside new image. Winrar will be auto replace file with new one.
Sure, first create backup of your original apk...in case you do something wrong.
hum.. I wasn't that careful, and just moved the original apk elsewhere and replaced with your apk.
Of course it didn't work, calendar didn't show in the applications drawer.
I replaced with the original but it force closes every 2mn, and still do not show in the app drawer.
Any tip?
I would like to avoid having to reflash my tab just for that...

Hmm, im not sure, did u delete both original files, apk & odex?
than just copy new apk...and must work. maybe even without reboot.
U can try this:
download original files forem here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?7m0xq4db05ht71y
-delete your old apk or odex files from app folder
-copy originals files (from link above)
-reboot tab, than your calendar MUST work.
-download calendar.apk from first page
-go back into app folder, delete TouchWizCalendar.apk + TouchWizCalendar.odex
-than copy new TouchWizCalendar.apk (downloaded from first page)
-MUST be ok

well even the original app (i copied apk + odex in /system/app) still refuses to appear in the app drawer...
should I do something specific? wiping cache or...?
I rebooted, still nothing and the force close happens automatically...
EDIT :
finally reflashed my rom (non wipe so no trouble), made a proper backup and try again but still the same problem...
at least I could restore my calendar backup this time

There might be some differences in the framework files for JMI that MCR uses vs. say Roto's JMIv2. I used the modded Contacts and Calendar from JME on my new JMIv2 install and it works just fine.
If you'd like to upload your stock MCR TouchWizCalendar.apk I can compare it to the one from JME and see what needs to be changed.

thanks very much, it's very kind of you
Th apk is uploaded here :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3DQDHLWI
EDIT 07-06-23: Xposed module (made by @agentdr8) that does the same thing can be found here.
EDIT 07-06-21: Guide is obsolete and does not work. The ROM I was using (Carbon) had native FB syncing enabled already. Xposed module is in the works.
EDIT 07-06-14: Tested working with KitKat! There's a great app on the Play Store called Sync.me that claims to be able to sync phone numbers, though I'm not sure if that's really true so see if works for you. Sync.me DOES NOT sync contact phone numbers... You will still need to do this mod to do that.
So apparently Facebook and Google had a cat fight and the result was that AOSP users ended up losing the ability to sync our contacts with the Facebook native app.
Now, there are apps on the Play Store which will allow you to sync things such as events, timeline, HQ photos, etc., but NONE of them allow you to sync phone numbers.
This guide will teach you how to modify a certain /system/app/ file (ContactsProvider.apk OR GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk depending on Android version) to allow Facebook syncing.
Required Programs: 7-Zip/WinRAR, ADB recommended
Step 1: Modifying the apk:
a. Make a folder called "res" and inside it make another one called "value"
b. Inside the "values" folder, make a .txt file and edit it to include this:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<resources>
<string-array name="unrestricted_packages">
<item>com.facebook.katana</item>
</string-array>
</resources>
c. Save the file and rename it to "arrays.xml"
d. Copy ContactsProvider.apk/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk to your PC and make a backup
e. Open it with 7-Zip/WinRAR, drag and drop the "res" folder into the apk, click "OK/YES" to any prompts
f. Transfer the apk back to your phone and overwrite the existing one in /system/app/
Step 2: Database Editing (you may or may not need to do this, do it anyways ):
a. (Optional) Clear your Contacts Storage app data as well as your Facebook app data.
b. (Optional) Reboot your phone.
c. Type this into adb shell or in Terminal Emulator (make sure to be in root [type "su"]):
Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db 'ALTER TABLE raw_contacts ADD COLUMN is_restricted VARCHAR';
If you get an error code saying duplicate/it already exists, then you're done.
Should anything go wrong, restore your original ContactsProvider.apk/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk, clear your Contacts Storage app data, and reboot.
Your Facebook contacts should start syncing. If it still doesn't sync reboot your phone twice and that should do it.

All this does is fix the permissions to allow the Facebook app to do what it was already programmed to do. There's no way to make it do more beyond what it's original capability was.
Also, as a general note, this thread has an APK that can be downloaded so you can skip doing the decompiling or sqlite modifications. Note that it'll only work on AOSP and CM10/10.1 roms. For any other roms, do it yourself.

Well, I guess I kind of exaggerated when I said EVERYONE knew about it...
I saw it on the internet somewhere... I don't know where it is now haha
i want to reopen this thread and add this info for everyone. there is an easier way, the way i did it. for those who dont have knowledge of decompiling and compiling apks this way is the best.
use root explorer , copy ur contacts provider apk to computer, open it the way it is using a zip rar manager , make the file: value/arrays.xml on the pc and add them as they are inside res... like that u dont need to decompile and recompile the apk. copy the apk back to system/app of the phone.
next step , uninstall facebook, sync ur contacts with all the other accounts you want and when sync is finished, copy the database file ( /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db ) to ur computer , open it with some sqlite manager and modify the table: raw_contacts. add a line : is_restricted , dont choose what value it will have , leave it blank. save the database and copy it back to its location in the phone. install facebook and sync. :good: tested on cm10.2.

Hey, it's been a while since I last did this and this guide may be obsolete. I will check to see if this still works on KitKat (4.4.3) and will update the guide as soon as I can. I'm not entirely sure, but the Sync.me app in the Play Store advertises that it syncs Facebook phone numbers as well. I'm not sure if that's actually true since AFAIK there is no way for an app to do that unless the ContactsProvider is modded (I may be wrong). Check to see if it works for you.
EDIT: Updated OP with completely revised guide (thanks @kessaras). You should have less problems with this method as you don't need to decompile/recompile the apk at all.

Hm, that's weird. Yea, no harm in doing so anyways and it only takes an extra step .
Does this still work if GoogleContactsSyncAdapter is odexed? I have a GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.odex file in /system/app as well...
I tried it, and it didn't seem to work, then I attempted to deodex the file and do it again. I must not know what I'm doing (likely) because it didn't work.
I followed the steps as closely as possible; the only thing I noticed was the presence of that odex file. When I rebooted, I used sqlite editor on my phone to make sure the column had been added to the table. It had.
Nothing happened. My google contacts slowly started coming back, but Facebook never did.

Alright, I've updated my rom to a deodexed version of stock. I've been trying to get this mod working pretty much all day and I can't seem to make it work. I did however find some information. First, on KitKat, GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk AND ContactsProvider.apk both exist. GoogleContactsSyncAdapter is in /system/app, and ContactsProvider is in /system/priv-app. Okay, cool.
Now, the second weird thing. I've modified these apks about a hundred times, following the guide to the letter. But I don't think I'm doing things right. There is just no change. I can verify the database gets updated, that's never the problem. The FB contact sync option just doesn't show up. It think that something's not working right with the apk modding... All the other xml files in the apks are full of binary data, not just plain ASCII.
Also, I downloaded this file and looked at it in 7zip. It doesn't even have the value folder, much less the arrays.xml file.
Do you need to decompile/recompile here?
Thanks!

Hey, try modifying only GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk in /system/app and leaving ContactsProvider.apk alone. I got it to work on my device that way. IIRC, as soon as I replaced GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk with the modified version and opened Facebook, I was greeted with the sync screen.

Confirmed to be working on stock, odexed LSZ.
One needs to remeber to manually remove three relevant .odex files from /system/app/ and then flash the zip from recovery (zip only replaces apk files).
I suppose that it should also work on LM5 if you'll remember to remove the odex files before flash.
THANK YOU, OP!

Ok I really have to say this: Google!
Ok guys I thought I'd share how I installed this widget. It looks far more pleasing to the eye, than the old widget.
Also....in doing so I noticed something interesting...
1. download & extract files to a folder.
2. copy AccuWeatherWidget_Main.apk (preload/symlink/system/app)
3. paste to System/app and ensure permissions are set to = rw-r--r--
4. copy AccuWeatherDaemon.apk and AccuWeatherWidget.apk (system/app)
5. paste to System/app and permissions = rw-r--r--permissions = rw-r--r--
6. go to "settings - application manager - all" and in Weather Widget Main, clear data.
7. Remove old widget from your homescreen. Reboot phone, and then place widget back on homescreen.
The interesting observation was that, sometimes the apk files would not copy across. In ES file explorer the message was something like "file was not successfully copied". But if I tried again 2 mins later, I might get a different message. "File copy successful".
There doesn't appear to be any logical reason as to why I can successfully copy & paste apk's sometimes, but other times I can't.
Has anyone else experienced this behaviour?
edit - I am on BurtROM LSZ. I have no idea what "odexed" or "deodexed" means. But I can't find any .odex files in the /system/app/ folder.
Just install it on XXLSZ_Stock_deodexed_rooted_eybee1970.zip via recovery, work perfect.
Many thank's
