flashing on POLA100.. few extra questions - Touch Cruise Android Development

I know that this topic has been probably discussed, but searching for few things do not give me a good result
1. I have panel1 type and all recent nbh are for panel3. I read somewhere that there is a converter, but I cannot find the thread.
2 Is it possible to flash back a winmo rom? I guess yes, by putting the nbh in the sim card and going to bootloader, but are there fellow forum guys that did that with good success?
4. Is it possible to restore my current img files? By modifying existing l1q1d's install-seq.sh and mounting my system and data img and copying them to newly formatted system and data partitions.. or use some other backup tool? Does it worth the hassle?
5. What is the battery life when using mostly 3G for synchronization every 10 minutes and occasionally WiFi for app download. Will it last two days?
Thanks in advance

OK.. I found the editor.. silly me

Answer for 4 (i'm sorry the other are too stupid, take a look in the forum)
You can use bsb in this way:
renaming data partition as backupdisk
select restore data in bsg
select format data on nand
place install-seq.sh o andboot
reboot
wait
cheers

Can anyone shed some light on this question?
Is it possible to flash back a winmo rom? What are the steps? Could'nt find it on the forums.
Like hard resetting the device or something?
Thanks
edit: got it.

Need Help Restoring Original ROM (from Backup)

Hi All, I am after advice on how to get my original ROM back.
I upgraded to MksBiGStorage, and following the instructions I backed up my original ROM first.
My original ROM is on my Hard Drive but I think because I used a 1Gb SD card to back it up with ntrw.exe, it is 1Gb in size.
I was hoping I could just use ntrw.exe and transfer my 1Gb backup ROM back to my SD card again using ntrw.exe and then hard reset my phone and it would see the ROM and install it - BUGGER, that doesnt seem to work.
Can anyone tell me how to get my backed up ROM back onto my phone? Or does anyone have the Original Orange UK SPV m500 ROM I could download and install?
Desperately want my original phone back - Please help guys, you are my only hope. (I Sound like Princess Leah asking Obi-Wan).
guess i'm Yoda then
Think you put the rom after your sd's mbr with ntrw. To solve this do the following steps:
- create a romdump of your current rom, you know how don't you?
- now copy your backup rom on the sd without formatting it.
romupdate has overwritten the sd's mbr and ntrw will happily write the backup.nb1 image at the start position of your sd.
Now your magician should be able to se the image.
Also you cashrink your backup image extremely. Open the mksbigstorager romimage in hexedit go to the last byte and get the address and bytes. Now open your backup, go to the same address and look for the same bitpattern as it is very recognizable this shouldn't give a problem.
Now delete all the bytes behind them & you're left with a handy 64Mb image
Good luck, M
I dont mean to sound ungreatful for your reply, but I have no idea what you mean.
I only have one backup of my old ROM, and that is the 1Gb file on my hard drive.
Can you give me a step by step procedure for restoring it?
If I understand correctly, you are saying to backup my (not wanted) mksbigstorage ROM again to SD (which will write the MBR to the SD.
Then, copy my original ROM back to the SD using ntrw, then try and insert my SD back into my device and it will work?
Is that right?

Yes that's right the rom-dump will overwrite/destroy the mbr. After that write the old 1Gb file on the same sd without formatting it, then it will work.
I'll post the steps to cut the 1Gb to 64Mb later as I need access to my PC for details on it. I did it myself as BS 1.13 on the ftp is my image and around 64Mb in size & mksbigstorager can do it too only that will do it with the BS patch & manually you get it without.
first thing is to get your old-rom on your device so start dumping ;-)
Regards, M
oltp, thanks for your help man. I am currently transferring my ROM to the SD.
Where abouts in NL are you from? I love NL - You guys rock
If ever I get the chance I will retire/emigrate in the Netherlands. Love it.
Just inserted card, and it says its trying to update the ROM.
MANY, MANY THANKS for taking the time to answer my questions.
I really appreciate it.... YODA!
You're welcome I'm just the messenger in this, someone else 'discovered' the mbr problem & posted it here.
Glad it works for you too.
Regarding the of the world I'm from the home of cannabis (Amsterdam) & live now near the city from 'a bridge to far' (Arnhem). Love it here too near the forests etc. Somehow the Dutch get a lot of bad credits lately in the news so it's nice to read that there are people liking Holland. So thank you & I guess you're device is ready for use by now.
Cheers, M
Absolutely spot on.
Once again, thanks for your help - I had almost given up.
I hope this helps others out aswell who need to revert back to the original ROM.
Regarding the 1Gb file, there are a couple of people in another thread of mine who obviously didnt back their ROM up and are asking for the original Orange UK ROM for download.
Is it safe to upload the ROM I have for them? I dont understand why its not downloadable anywhere on the net at the moment?
I will happily upload this ROM for others if its not going to cause licensing issues or invalidate my ROM at all.
I took a look at using the HexEdit program and think I know what I need to do, but selecting all the bytes after the address seems to take AGES! FOREVER.
Thanks again for your time oltp, I am well chuffed
Excuse me for my bad English, you better select to first 64Mb & save that part in a new file don't forget to include those footer bytes.
When you don't want people to get your device id, just replace those first 416bytes with a looping 'please put your own 416bytes here' or something simular. Must work don't you think?
I just uploaded mine as I hope, guess, belief they're not able or willing to backtrack me in the coming 18 months. Then my contract ends & I probably get a new 'phone'.
So pls upload your shrunken & zipped image you can pls a lot of others with it.
Cheers, M

How to Restore encryption file???

Hi Guys...Please help me
I have Very2 Trouble....
Im using Tomal ROM for My Uni....But Im Set encryption File in Setting/system/Encryption
My Uni ReUpgrade With EF 2.40 Last night.....Before Reupgrade, I Backup System using spb Backup, i save to storage card. After Reupgrade, file Backup Can't Acces/open...
How to Unencryption this file???? Because All file in program file, backup file can't Open...
I'm sorry but as far as I know there is no way you can restore an encrypted file. When you reflash ROM your Uni has different encryption - as if it were a different Uni. Obviously, the point of encrypted files is only the originator can read it. I don't think even reflashing with the original ROM will allow, as the encryption code will be changed again.
You would have had to copy your SD card to your PC using ActiveSync before flashing ROM.
Today I reflash Again using TOmal ROM...
But No Can Find Solution....
SO Sad...
Sorry ajie,
I have had a further investigation, and it looks like Microsoft are putting a stronger message when ticking the 'encryption' box. However OEM don't seem to be passing this on. (Perhaps a small note for all cookers?)
Please see my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2718217#post2718217 which will not be any more help.

[Q] A question before my first flash

I've been doing a lot of reading lately and I am finally about to flash my first ROM. Below is a list of what I've done as far as backup and prep. What I want to know is if there is anything important that I missed?
Made a nandroid backup with CWM
Backed up apps with Titanium Backup
Backed up efs directory from the phone
I have a copy of settings.db on my compuer
I have Odin 1-click on my computer
I have a jig made up just in case
Also, since I am on stock 2.1(JH7), I assume I don't need to go through the odin 1-click step, right?
Thanks in advance for your help
looks like you have everything covered except one thing (maybe): if you have an unlocked phone, check the forums to learn how to get your unlock back *before* flashing
i also put a copy of my sd card onto my computer in case something goes bad, but that's just my paranoia/ocd
and you should flash at 100% battery and reset the battery stats while flashing. you can even flash while the phone is plugged into the computer or ac outlet, so the flashing process doesn't drain from the phone battery. some ppl say this is voodoo, but i always flash at 100% and reset the battery stats while changing roms because its a convenient time to reset stats

OK, thanks. I'm glad you mentioned that. I do have it unlocked and I didn't even think about it. I have to go to Thailand in a few weeks for work so I need it unlocked.
I think I remember reading that the unlock code is located in the nv_data.bin file and can be found by searching the file with a hex editor. I'll have to read a little more and play around with that before I flash.
I have been reading a lot lately, but could not find an answer to my noob question. I was just wondering if I flash an I9000 based ROM and lose my unlock or my product code gets messed up, can I just copy the original nv_data.bin file to the new ROM or will that cause me other problems. I know there are post as to how to fix this, but they are geared toward people who didn't make a backup and copying original would be much easier and quicker. Thanks.
^^^ Any help with above question?
I also have one other question. I've been poking around with Root Explorer and I see that all the sytem apps are naturally stored in /system/app folder, but I don't see the downloaded apps in there. I see what apperar to be my downloaded apps in /data/app folder. Is this where they are stored and if so, can I just copy them out and then copy them back after I flash a new ROM? If so, is there anything else I have to do with them to make them work again (like chown through adb)? I was wondering this because I have some paid apps and I don't know if they will automatically be available for download again once I sign on to the market and I don't want to lose them. Thanks for any help.

nexus s txt thread recovery?

Hello, I have a question I hope you can help me with...
I've got a nexus S 2.3 and Ive just deleted a very important text msg thread, have I lost it forever or is there anyway that I can recover it??
If I can recover it can you please tell me what I should do as I ve never done anything ike this before. Many thanks, concerned android user.
Never tried anything like this before, so just some ideas as a general outline:
The first thing you should do is a complete image of the phone before the data can be overwritten (if it isn't already).
There is no convenient way to undelete that I know of.
I would search for the sms database file and try some sqlite tools on it. Look if there are entries that are marked as deleted or something.
If that doesn't bring anything up, I would use a good (hex-)editor to extract the strings from the file and see, if the data is somehow still there.
Anyway it will probably mean a lot of work, depending on how many sms you have stored and the best you should hope for is that you can manually reconstruct the thread in a text file or on a piece of paper.
Hello cgi,
thanks for the reply with advice!!
what is a complete image? how do i do this?
how do i search the sms database?
where do i get hex editor from?
do i need to back up any data before trying to recover anything?
many thanks,
Ray

An image is a complete copy of the data on the phone. The easiest way to do that is to use a custom recovery system like clockworkmod recovery. If you have a custom ROM installed, chances are, that you already have it.
First: Is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
Second: Which version of Android exactly is one your phone?
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can install a recovery image that will let you backup the data partition where your sms database should reside.
If your bootloader is locked but your Android version is 2.3.3 or lower, you can use an exploit that let's install a different recovery image.
If your bootloader is locked and your Android version 2.3.4 (and your phone is not rooted), then AFAIK you are out of luck.

I don't know in which files your sms are being stored, but it should not be that hard to find out.

There are a lot out there. I use okteta from the KDE project, but you can use whichever you want. You could use notepad, too, i guess, but that won't make things any easier.

That's the image I was talking about. You would first copy all the data on your computer.
CGIi,
Many many thanks for taking the time to reply to my question!!
I dont think there is much chance of recovering this thread, my friend has about half of the 900 texts in the thread which makes it slighty easier to swalow.
once again the importance of backing things up is key to keeping the pics, files, texts you want to keep. I'l try to do this even more in the future, I'm so sick of losing data from old mobiles, PC'S etc, I'm gonna back up everything from now on!!
Many thanks again, RAY

Easy way to keep one's personal data when flasing a new ROM

Most of the time when one flashes a new ROM one has to do a data wipe (factory reset), and it erases all one's personal files like movies, music, pictures etc, quite annoying to say the least.
I found a way to avoid this, and it's pretty simple:
1-in CWM go to mount,
2-mount both data and system,
3-format them both.
This will perform the factory reset without erasing our precious files (the installed apks will be gone though, but no biggie if you backed up them with Titanium).
Then you can wipe cache + dalvik and flash your new ROM.
I used this method to go from ICS to CM 10.1, from CM 10.1 to Paranoid Android, and finally back to ICS, without loosing a single kb of my files.
Edit:
I have a p6210, no idea whether it works on other models or not. I guess it does but who knows...
Give it a try if you feel like it, but don't forget to make a back up before in case it goes wrong.
After flashing, your files won't be in the mnt/sdcard anymore but in a newly created folder in mnt/sdcard/0, or, depending the rom you are using, in storage/sdcard/0.
Or, some roms may create a file called legacy and stock everything there, or sometimes your files may be stocked before the sdcard folder, search for either /0 or /legacy.
Use a root browser and have a look, your files are still in your device (have a look as well at your storage in general settings, it will show how many gbs are in your tab).
Once you have found your files all what you have to do is to move them back where they belong, ie the /sdcard folder, it takes 10 seconds.

Not cool man.Fu** lah.I lost everything.Around 7 GB of files.Fu** lah.I have no backup.I thought it would work.I was going from cm10.1 to cm10.What am I going to do?
Re: Easy way to keep one's personal data after flasing a new ROM
ALWAYS create a backup before erasing/flashing ANYTHING!! It's always as a precaution, to avoid losing something that you don't want to. And it only takes like 5 seconds literally. I lost some stuff when I unlocked the bootloader on my nexus10 by factory resetting, and I must say I didn't have a smile on my face. But it happened, u live n learn. I'm afraid if u wiped without making a nandroid backup your probably out of luck. Unless your skilled in using forensics techniques to try to recover it. Can't think of any options tho.

What did you do?
Did you follow the exact procedure?
I flashed again some roms today and it worked again.
But one thing is that the files are not in the mnt/sdcard anymore but in a newly created folder in mnt/sdcard/0, or, depending the rom you are using, in storage/sdcard/0.
Or, some roms may create a file called legacy and stock everything there, or sometimes your files may be stocked before the sdcard folder, search for either /0 or /legacy.

This said, meishkov is right, one should allways have a back up in case anything goes wrong, I should have mentioned it in the OP but I forgot, my bad...
Edit:
OP edited.
Oh well, noone tried?
Would be nice to hear some reports...
Balaram, it would be fair from you to detail a bit what happened and to tell if you found back your files.
Anyway, this method worked for me and I thought that it might have interested some people here, roms flashers and devs alike, but if that s not the case then no worries.
If someone feels that I should erase the whole thread just tell me and I ll do it...
