Beautiful Widgets -> Weather inaccurate... - Captivate General

I have Beautiful Widgets Home with weater, and the Beautiful Weather Live wallpaper. It is really cool.
But, there is no way to configure who to use for a weather provider, and it is not even close. Maybe my expectations are too high, but I don't think so.
I have it set to update every hour. And over the past 2 hours it has dropped from low 90s to 74, and has been raining for 90 min or so.
the weather on the home says 95 degrees, and the live weatehr page shows brigh sunny, with white clouds going by.
Anyone having better luck with this?
[EDIT]
I think maybe I figured it out. We'll see after some changing weather.
But I had it checked on settings to use GPS. But, GPS doesn't come in inside the house, so it had wrong location. Even thought Geolocation was set too. But I unchecked the GPS, and saved it, and it appears to have the weather right for the live wallpaper.
Anyone know how geolocation works? (I think I'm remering the name of it right).

i am also having a problem with the Widget and live wallpaper updating. The sun rises and sets and it gets dark but my Temp is not updating and we just had a crazy storm here and it still says sunny....any help?

I had fancy Widgets which had weather but it was off by 4 or 5 degrees F.
Got rid of it. Using just digotal clock now. Simple and no wrong info.

i must have changed something....can someone post some good settings? This is one of the most downloaded apps so i must just be screwing something up.

I know that time stops updating if you use a task killer and kill beautiful widgets. I imagine this applys to the weather also.

I think this is an issue that the LevelUp Studio people are aware of. According to this tweet, it sounds like they're going to release an update that uses a new weather data provider.

It's a problem with Google's weather service. Every app and widget that pulls data from Google's weather services has been having problems for a while now. That's why they will be switching to a new provider.

Until I can get a cool clock/weather app that works correctly, I will use it. Until then, I use retro clock and Weather Bug.

Beautiful widgets has been updated to use accuweather.com for forcasts now.

This is correct and works great now.

I'm having weather updating issues with the current Beautiful Widgets. Anyone else? No task killer running. Using Accuweather. Manually clicking update does nothing. Would be nice if it showed a last updated timestamp. I can click to weather details and I see that Accuweather has different weather than the widget.
Does the developer have an official support channel? Can't find one and he never responded to a twitter request.

I think they may have. I just tried to find it by going to their links in Appbrain, but only found a home page with no method there to communicate to them.
But at this link on Appbrain, there is an icon to click where you can email them. I have no idea if you will get support or response.

Weather Radar app

What is the best Weather radar app , I need one that can zoom to the same sort of levels that I could get with Accuweather on my Windows Mobile phone. I currently am using Radar Now , which I like because it is very fast and gives me a good overview on the radar , but , there are times when I need to be able to zoom in much closer , with good definition than i can with that app.
TIA
Dan
p.s. This is my first Android O/S phone , so I am trying to come up to speed on what all is available for them.
i really like weatherbug elite. it has a great looking interface, and the radar is top notch. i use the weather channel app though for video forecast, if i need one of those
Im also using Weatherbug
check out "radar now" its free and does JUST radar map using gps.. its very fast..
i use that and weatherbug.
But when I am at my sons baseball game and want something to check the weather quick because I see clouds coming.. I whip that out and show it to the head coach.
rainy days
I use WeatherBug Elite, but I have also used MyCast weather in the past. MyCast was a little faster, but WeatherBug just destroys it in features. WeatherBug also has a radar map widget.

Yeah, +100!
I too was very interested in a radar weather app. I tried a ton of free and pay apps and finally settled on Weatherbug Elite. Great interface, fast, great features, and detailed weather radar.
Spend the $2, you won't be sorry.
Definately Rainy Days. I have tried all of the widgets and apps related to radars and by far its the best. Sometimes doing one thing and doing it well is just what you need.

Thanks for this, it's much better than radar now. I've hooked it up to beautiful widgets so I don't really need the extra forcasting from palmary weather.

What's a good news widget

Hey do anyone know of a good news widget to use other than the HTC news widget and the genie widget?
Sent from my Sprint Evo
Try BuzzBox
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Looking for the same..I tried Buzzbox and it sucked..Couldn't find the feeds I searched for and wouldn't show news items but from one feed.
I use gReader. It takes all the feeds you have set up through Google Newsreader and syncs it on your device. The adding a new subscription directly from the application is a bit weird, but it works.
Pretty fast too although I don't think it caches graphics until you open the item.
Greader includes a widget?

Well I can just use the HTC News app for that, it works great. I got used to the widget though using Sense the first week or two after I got the phone. So looking for an alternative widget.
I personally think the HTC News widget is too bloated. I prefer the Genie Widget -- not only does it give accurate weather notices, it's also got a great news aggravator.

Where do I find it, I know I found it somewhere before but didn't see it in the market.
I'm also trying to find Genie in the market, but can't seem to locate it...has it been removed?

any other scrollable news widgets? or any way to trick the sense news widget to work with launcher?
No scrollable news reader widgets I know of and I can assure you I have looked everywhere and likely tried out nearly everything out there. I would like nothing more than to dump Sense but personally, I think they really hit the mark on some of their widgets and their seems to be no equivalent in the market. The guy behind LauncherPro has been doing a great job rolling out similarly functional widgets but no ETA yet on the NewsReader.
Lot's of folks seem to really like the Genie widget which comes on the Nexus One but with no way to choose the specific feeds you want, it doesn't work for me.
Buzzbox has potential and is the only non-Sense news reader with a full screen widget. That said, it still leaves a lot to be desired and was deleted without prejudice. It's buggy, articles were OLD (16+ hours), and it was missing a lot of feeds. I sent an email to the developer and in his response implied that the servers at Buzzbox pre-scan the sources to only send you the "best stuff." WTF? Isn't that the job of the editors at the respective sources...?
gReader syncs feeds from your GoogleReader account and is definitely one you should try if pulling from Google Reader is what you are looking for. However, if you are looking for a bit more customization I would recommend trying out Feedr, NewsRoom, and Greed2. They all have "widgets" but that is using the term loosely in comparison to the Sense one. Personally, when I am running a non-Sense ROM I use NewsRoom. Again, it has widgets but they are really just shortcuts. However, in my opinion (and of course, this entire post has been all my opinion) I think you'll find it has the nicest layout of what is available now plus customizable feeds.

Weather/Clock App

Whats the best app/setting and how do you get accurate location data?
Using the built in one I was never able to get anything accurate. For the last week I've been using Beautiful Widgets. It lets you chose between multiple weather sources (google and accuweather I think) and will use gps to update location. So far I'm pretty happy with it.

Need a weather app which doesn't use too much battery up

Want to find a good weather app which will have the temperature on notification tray and would be quite detailed when I entered the app. But most importantly an app that won't make the battery suffer too much
I would suggest ezWeather, very nice and no battery drain for me.
just don't update too shortly, weather conditions doesn't change a lot in 3 hours, I'm using 24hrs update and never catch by rain w/out umbrella

Arcus is pretty good. No noticeable battery drain and quite accurate.

Haven't noticed much of a battery drain using Accuweather. Nice app both design and function wise. Widgets aren't the greatest though. I agree with what was said above that the update interval is most likely to impact battery life

Yahoo Weather i think its been one of the best alternative weather apps for me !!

I second this. I use 1weather all the time (update set at every 6 hours) and I have no discernible battery drain.
I have been using Beautiful Widgets since my days of the evo3d and have had no problems with battery drain.
Zooper
Zooper widget is pretty good. It has the option to only check weather when the screen is turned on. No battery use when the phone is asleep.
har5h
I've actually given up on weather apps and widgets and just go here http://m.wund.com/ when I need to know whats up.
good day.
eye in the sky weather is a good one.
Weatherbug Elite works great for me. I have it set to update every 30 minutes and to use network location not gps. I never even see it in the usage stats for my battery.
Sent from the jaws of my Hammerhead!
It's really personal preference and more of a "try them all and see what you like best". Some are more complete and have full weather stats and radar (for the weather junkie in us) and some are more minimal and only include current conditions and a forecast. Some have nice looking widgets and some have crap for widgets.
I've tried them all, paid for them all because I like to support the devs, and came to my own conclusions: weatherbug elite is about as good as it gets for a complete weather app, but the widgets aren't pretty at all. Ezweather is gorgeous but not complete. Yahoo is nice but full of advertising crapware. 1weather is sharp as is arcus. Acuweather is OK. Palmary is OK. Weather is OK. Eyeinsky is OK but not updated. There are many more. Try them all and see which one you like
None of these had ever concerned me with battery. Ever

WZ Weather is very nice. No drain. Looks good. Nice widgets. I've also been using yahoo, but it's always on the battery list. Uses 7 %. WZ doesn't even use 1 %.
Edit: EZ Weather of course.
Weatherbug or weatherbug elite

Another plus for 1Weather....
No excessive battery drain with the proper settings....
Auto Refresh - Off
Under Launch Behavior: Refresh Automatically - Check
Edit My Locations: Follow My Location - Off
Edit My Location: Set a static location (I use home)
It only updates when i open the app..... also doesn't constantly ping my location...
I recommend BeWeather Pro

Weatherbug Elite is by far the most comprehensive weather app I've found. Notification bar status updates, severe weather alerts, radar maps, live cameras, pollen count, etc.. Only uses as much battery as you tell it to.
1Weather, hands down.

[WANTED] Weather! ALL in APP. No pushing to web!!!

Ive been using an older version of weatherbug elite for a long time and now that ive switched to lg v20 it doesnt quite work as well as on older versions of android. It seems the widget doesnt refresh like its supposed to leaving a blank widget untill i open the app, then the widget refreshes and displays.
So ive tried the included weather, ive tried several from play store and NOT ONE does it all inside the actual app like old weatherbug elite, even the newer weatherbug app kicks over to web for simple extended forecast, and i cant seem to find anything in it that shows wind forecast.
They all seem to show a little info and then push you to web browser for more details or extended forecast. I can create a bookmark for weather.com if thats what i wanted, but its not.
I work outside daily during winter and spend days on the water frequently in the warmer months so extended weather is very important to me, and old weatherbug elite has been a great app for a long time but i guess its time to move on since its not working right.
Basically im looking for a weather app that actually is an app, not a front for a website weather details. Something that shows pressure, wind and all that crap within the actual app so i dont have to dig thru multiple web pages
The Google app had a beautiful interface with everything you need, without taking you to the browser.
BTW you can check out weather timeline.
