EVO / Froyo / 30fps / Working Camera? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Multiple questions here. I know the EVO source code was released. Has anyone found a solution to make the camera work on Froyo 2.2 or make the camera work with the 30Hz screen limitation hack on 2.1?

Check Cyanogenmod for the Evo. It's the best AOSP rom out for the evo atm in my opinion. 40 fps, both cameras work, & linpack scores are easily 40 average.

how "android 2.0-friendly" are current HTC android phones?

Hello guys,
You 've made a great forum here, and i must admit you're all doing amazing work. I have a question that made me crawl out of my lurking cave.
I was thinking about buying a HTC Magic/Saphire phone. Maybe getting involved with some android development. Anyway, i was wondering how compatible the phones are with the upcoming android 2.0. I know multitouch will be support (and already is in Hero,) but does that mean that i will be able to upgrade to android 2.0 and enjoy multitouch in Magic? I know multitouch capabilities are already enabled through some roms.
Also, will i expierence slower speeds with coming versions of android? [i'm thinking the way a computer made with xp in mind, behaves when you install Vista on it].
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but i haven't found a clear answer yet
As far as MultiTouch is concerned...my understanding is that it will only work with capicitive touch screens. The Hero's screen is capacitive.
Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I am aware the G1(Dream) and Magic have risistive screens.
Paul, thanks for your answer
That's what i thought at first, and i was gonna wait for hero to come out in Greece, but i found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558344&highlight=multitouch
and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4510792&postcount=26
so it seems it works with custom roms. Any ideas about the speed factor and/or the compatibility of the phones with future android versions?

Both the G1(Dream) and magic have capacitive screens. All Android phones on the market at this time have capacitive screens
Android 2.0 isn't being developed yet. 1.6 is though (codenamed donut.)
Cyanogen, over in the dream forum has already ported and IMPROVED 1.6 into the G1's.

That is not true either. 2.0 is rumored to be what is shipping on the upcoming Motorola Shules. The code name for 2.0 is eclair.
so, to get back to my original question, when Shules launches, will android 2.0 be portable to 1.6 phones like magic? i read that it won't be portable to G1 [or, to be more accurate, that they wont release an official update for it]

well the issue for the G1 was not have enough memory to "store" the update, but one of the lead developers said that the quote was taken in the wrong way. As far as I know, if you flash it yourself it should fit and work fine in the future. It is just that having the OS on there and then trying to do an Over the Air update would cause issues due to lack of space.
Alittle off the topic but, here's a spec chart of all the android phones on the market. http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/09/10/android-battle-cliq-edition/

[ROM] Roufianos V6 720p 30FPS |Full Of Speed|

Hello again after 1 month...
I have lost from here, because as allready know my Desire Has been Fu**ed up iin testing of a rom who will Record Videos @720p With 30fps...
Now working 1 month on this Project with the help from a new friend (HTC HELLAS Technician) and with the help from my old friend Mr Lazaros (some here maybee know him) we make this true...
I want to thanks ACE HELLAS (HTC in Greece) who give me a New Desire (replacement of my burned desire) and also give me a marketing purpose (DEMO DEVICE) Htc desire to make all of my tests on this device.
Also i want to thanks all this guys who give me donates for this project
Now on the Project...
The good News:
The video recorder Shoot Videos @ 30 fps
I have modify a lot of HTC Drivers (wifi works like gigabit wired network... Require Draft n access point)
All of the Installed Programs is Updatable
IF YOU HAVE THE PREVIEWS Roufianos ROM YOU DONT NEED TO MAKE WIPE
The Rom is Ready for production (i will delay it 5-6 days to make sure that will work ok, and will not do the same to the Demo device )
The Bad News:
If you record Videos more than ~3Minutes you feel the desire hotness*
To work with the best results @30fps you need to have a good MicroSD (+8x)
Here is the Sample Video of my New Rom:
http://pameplateia.com/video/73K5W4D79936/Roufianos-V6-720p-Sample
*to resolve the hotness problem, you have to "slow" the brightness of the screen, this problem dont exists to HTC DESIRE With the News screens SLCD (sony Screens), i have test it t my new desire....
Stay tuned
lol but...what exactly you have modified?build prop? librarys? xml decoding?
Can't exits risk to burn out desire like your last amoled desire?
And, if you don't have source of 2.2 sense, how do you modify drivers?
omg! that video is sooo smooth! nice!

The Drivers its not 100% modified, its has been taked from other HTC Android Device who is 100% compatible with desire and works much more faster... if you want more details about this, i will send you later PM with this, because i dont choose it this by myself... Its 100% safe to use the rom, and for this reasson i will keep it unreleased for 5-6 days.
A friend told me that in the next HTC OTA Update (FROYO 2.2) will replace the drivers, because he have built it from the scratch for the Desire...
Also, for all this who want to Change the old screen of desire:
YOU CANOT Change it, because you have to change AND THE MAINBOARD of desire...
i preffer the Old AMOLED from samsung because it is better in sunny enviroment and im working all day outside...

And you prefer amoled to slcd because you're outside loads? Swear I saw a test on Gizmodo or Engadget and amoled didn't stand a chance against slcd.

Hi tron,
but this is the video sample that you have recorded 1 months ago with OLD ROM... I remember it, 17 sec... what's up?
Thank you neighbor, also for improved the 720p and wifi drivers
video is good as a bolt
So when can we expect these improvements?
Great News ~!
Will you also update the rom will lastest flash 10.1 , cifs .... etc ~
This looks mighty nice, looking forward to this being mainstream in all desire roms.
I hope you will be releasing the driver source, and not just pushing out another sense rom.
Now all we need is to plug a decent microphone into the micro usb slot, since the audio quality is rubbish on any videos I have taken

[Q] List of things Nexus S doesnt have that the Galaxy S does have?

Galaxy S has:
Removeable SD Card
Ability to watch movies without converting etc
Can use 3.5 jack to see movies etc on TV - not sure if the nexus s can do this or not
Bluetooth 3.0 - But its better that it has 2.1 so you can use wiimote
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head if anyone has any other things id like to know.

13GB SD card internal is more than enough for most people.
between all the streaming apps coming, and the apps on the market for playing divx, it shouldn't be an issue.
3.5 tv out should work, if not then most likely someone will write an app, or code a stock rom that includes the function.
meh. 3.0 is alright, but as you said, no wiimote and it has other issues as well.

SIM-lock and crapware?
much better video camera, 720p and suport for various codecs
I'm willing to bet the actual camera sensor in the Nexus S is identical to the Galaxy's. From pictures, the aperture looks the same, and also reviews of the Nexus S have noted how well the low light performance is, which is similar on the Galaxy S. I'm quite certain the lack of 720p is merely a software limitation rather than hardware being different... but of course this is all speculation.

it seems that still pictures are decent enough but video samples are terrible, for example this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDDn-MXzd3U in the background i truly cant tell whats on the video. There are many more examples on you tube, I hope they can fix it.
All "HD" video shot with cameraphones is terrible anyway. You're better off shooting in 480p.

Have you seen the Vibrant's video capabilities? I highly doubt it based on your comment. While the pics on it are average, the video it takes is EXTREMELY good.
I bet the lower capability video camera on the S is due to the lack of a SD slot.

yeah, i forgot to ask. I didnt see swype in any of the review. Is it possible that they even took that out?
What do you mean "took it out"? Swype has never been a part of Android, it is a carrier/manufacturer add-on.
There was a video review that showed what writing options the Ns came with, and Swype was not one of them - in fact, it only had Android Keyboard. Forgot which video.
BTW, what's the deal with Bluetooth 3.0 and the Wiimote? What happens, it prevents the Wiimote from working? I've never heard of this.
Third-party apps for WiiMote pairing do not work with Bluetooth 3.0 (or some skins, such as HTC Sense)

Well, If Swype wants to open source it's keyboard, I'm certainly interested.

Do Something for the flash plzzzzzzzz.... :)

I know Flash is incompatible with the armv6 powered android phones like Optimus one.
But i heard flashlite works well on eclair browser and low level s60 symbian phones with less hardware capabilities than O1.
SO, O1 having better config can atleast get flashlite. Is their any possibility to make it work with stock froyo or on your gingerbread rom.?? Flash or open-source alternatives for it.
Plzzzz do something.
It would be of gr8 help to many.
As far as i'm aware, Flash Lite requires Sense or the Sense framework?
Anyway it wasn't very good. Could barely play some videos.

The number of devices suported is very limited:

* Sony Ericsson Xperia pro

same here, no video on galaxy s..
anyone knows how it identifies the phone? maybe if you modify it's identifier to nexus s it would work?
We need the guys that worked on the Netflix APK to take a look at it. I'd love for this to be on my sensation.
Oddly it doesn't work on the Nexus S 4G.
also now has a running service that doesn't let u close the app.
what is with devs that think their app is so great that you shouldn't be allowed to close it and it must remain constantly running?
Maybe change ur build.prop, like the nerflix app
Please hack this application !!!
could the magic combination be the latest Gingerbread + FFC?
One of the advantages to the latest Ginger, if I recall correctly, was native APIs for a front camera (until now, apps had to be coded for specific camera devices- that's why some video chat apps only supported some hardware).
Are these maybe the only devices running the latest Google update that happen to sport a front camera?
Start hacking! From the skype 2 apk:
Code:
{white:[{name:"HTC Saga", mft:"(?i)HTC",
board:"(?i)saga",
model:"(?i)HTC saga", product:"(?i)htc_saga",
device:"(?i)saga"},{name:"HTC Desire S", mft:"(?i)HTC",
board:"(?i)saga",
model:"(?i)HTC Desire S", product:"(?i)htc_saga",
device:"(?i)saga"},
{name:"Nexus S", mft:"(?i)samsung",
board:"(?i)herring",
model:"(?i)Nexus S",
product:"(?i)soju",
device:"(?i)crespo"},
{name:"Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo",mft:"(?i)Sony Ericsson",brand:"(?i)SEMC",board:"(?i)unknown",
model:"(?i)MT15[ai]", product:"(?i)MT15[ai]_.*",
device:"(?i)MT15[ai]"},{name:"Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro",mft:"(?i)Sony Ericsson",brand:"(?i)SEMC",board:"(?i)unknown",
model:"(?i)MK16[ai]", product:"(?i)MK16[ai]_.*",
device:"(?i)MK16[ai]"}]}
Where's the .apk? Would love to try this out on my Flyer.
Just occurred to me- Nexus S 4G isn't working. Nexus S GSM unlocked is.
Maybe the reason for these specific devices is Skype still has some kind of contract with Verizon for Droid video calling?
I recall Skype video on the Thunderbolt being an exclusive Android offering which VZ apparently paid for. Maybe Skype is allowed to offer Android for other non-US carrier affiliated devices? As far as I know, none of the phones offered are available through a national carrier here, and all have a front facing camera and the latest Gingerbread OS. Maybe I found the pattern?
Anyway, that being said, unlike the thunderbolt version which was heavily tied to that hardware, I bet we can crack this baby open to work on other Ginger devices at least!

From what I recall, Gtablet and CM7 don't work together nicely on the camera side of things.
Maybe try Vegan GE? I don't have it installed now to check.
That was with cm7 not cm7.1 rc the camera issues were resolved.
BTW I have the same error as the atrix guy
Maybe you could try the older build, but chances are it won't work too.
How do i install this?
