It feels weird typing without it! I tried installing but it failed. Any chance of getting this working! Thanks!
Nobody has it working with froyo yet. There's a main topic on this somewhere but I can access it from work.
Hmm I'll search it. Thanks!

Also wondering about this, I miss my multi-touch.
Bump....
This seems like a tough one to get help with, A few others and I have posted similar questions, I added on about removing the voice key.
I also would love the droidx keyboard ported to froyo. I feel odd without it...
Anyone know why it doesn't work? Maybe I'll look into it

I wish I knew.
There is a droid x port in the nexus area, that has a 2.2 version. Its probably the best looking multi-touch keyboard at the moment. Check it to see if you can install it.
Its asking me if I want to replace the system app... is the one from dcupdater still on my evo? Says app was not installed
sent with evo 4g
I am pretty sure that is because you already have another multi touch keyboard on your evo, it did similar things when I was installing other MT keyboards when others were still installed.
Also, are you trying to install the 2.2 nexus one droidx port?
Smart keyboard pro works with froyo and it's multitouch. It should hold you over till we get our own port of the droidx kb
I ended up using better keyboard for now. Still like the Droid x layout better though

Hey guys, I was wondering if there's a way to get the normal android stock keyboard on my HTC hero (Sprint). Thanks!
Jason
i was wondering this as well?
is the stock keyboard more responsive or quicker then htc's? ido love htc keyboard but if stock is any quicker and faster i might try that
Using the search function of the site pulled up this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5223276
Once again, using the SEARCH function I was able to find that in no time at all. Try it sometime.
Not trying to be a **** about it but yeah... Anyway try swype. It is pretty awesome once you get used to it. I wasn't convinced that I was typing faster using swype but when I flashed a rom that put me back on the HTC keyboard I realized just how slow and weird it felt to tap the keys instead of drawing on the keyboard. Not that I suggest it, but it makes it much easier to text and drive as well. But don't do that. Focus on the xda-forum search for now. Its up at the top.
already tried swype, liked it just wanna try stock, and on that post noone can get it to work

So.... maybe what if it doesn't work? Gasp
I'd really appreciate it if someone on here can figure out a way to get the Wii Controller app running on the EVO with or without going around whatever the problem is with Sense UI. I'm using a stock rooted EVO running the latest rooted updates.
That would be awesome!

Just posted under the other thread, this one being the original I thought the information would be better here. I most recently tested "Wiimote Controller" (free version) on Avalaunch's Deodexed 2.2 ROM, and keep coming up with a failed to initialize error, same thing happens with stock.
Still looking for a way to get this to work... bump.

This. Screw Sense and its lack of Bluetooth support.

hah
the best part is how 4g works in cyanog
oh.. wait..
I looked into this a few weeks ago, I found the actual developer of the wiimote app had posted for help trying to solve the issue, it sounds like it's something as basic as sense using a custom function for bluetooth syncing and the developer doesn't know which function call to use as a replacement. The function could very likely exist, he just needs to know what it is.
Here is the thread, which he seems to have abandoned..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676212
We need to connect him with some of the other seasoned developers, htc would probably share whatever the function he needs to use is if someone would just ask using the correct channels.. I've seen several developers in the evo forums get direct responses from HTC over proprietary code issues, I think it's all about persistance.
Bump. We despritly need this support for our EVOs...
if cyanogen can do it, someone else should be able to mimic that and port it over to us

the problem is the bluetooth drivers in EVERY rom that has HTC Sense. Period. Unless HTC fixes it, it more than likely won't happen. it's not exactly something that can be flashed or installed...
Makes sense.
Hi guys,
Can anyone port the new Android 2.3 keyboard to Android version 2.1? On the x10 we are currently on Android Version 2.1 and I really could use a new keyboard.
someone said the new keyboard uses the voice search app, that's already been ported to 2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667387)
and here is the link to the 2.3 Keyboard APK.
http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/GINGERBREAD/GingerBreadLatinIME.zip
Thanks again.
Google provides a 2.1-compatible Voice Search app, no need for porting. But unfortunately, that's not the problem. The problem is that the Gingerbread keyboard needs the newest Voice Search app (the Froyo one with Voice Actions), which hasn't been ported to 2.1. My understanding is that it might not be possible to do so. So, until someone finds a way to hack the Gingerbread keyboard into not relying on Voice Actions, we 2.1 users seem to be out of luck.
The HTC Sense keyboard, though, is supposed to work on the X10 and is a huge improvement. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5475283
There's also a Droid multi-touch keyboard which is even better still (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709519), but I have no idea if it'll work on the X10.
I have been working on this in my spare time.

EDIT: Only tested on fascinate
seems to work fine
installed it via the recovery menu on my X10. Seems to work. No problems yet! Nice work!

Oh, awesome, that's what I use on my Fascinate -- I just wasn't sure if it'd work on other phones. I bet a lot of people might be glad to get their hands on that, then.

Thanks
Glad to hear people from other phones are also enjoying it!
If you guys test this on another device and find that it works would any of you mind posting in the original thread so I can update a working list?
I updated the original post to be a little more informative.
anyone have any suggestions for a keyboard? i don't like the stock one so im using smart keyboard since i already bought it when i had my atrix 2. only problem is its not ics friendly yet. in landscape mode the settings bar cuts off the last keys down the right side of the keyboard when texting and it doesn't fully stretch across the screen when using a browser. i know it because it hasn't been updated to support ics fully yet (im guessing that's true) but i like the look and feel of it has a lot of customizations. any suggestions?
i cant get myself to stop using Thumb Keyboard.....i have it on all my devices and i find it to be one of the best keyboards for me...love the customizations it has from themes, to size of keys, to layout...
I've used SwiftKey ever since it's inception...

I've gone to the SwiftKey on both my Galaxy 8.9 and my One X. I really like it.
Swiftkey, really good
I really like Swype, but maybe I'm just so used to it now (been using it since it came out). HTC's keyboard isn't bad though. Swiftkey is pretty good as well. I'm using djdarkknight's stock ics themed version of Swype currently.
Swiftkey 3 beta

Stock ics keyboard the best in my opinion, the one from the market is glitchy at times ( 100 people will reply that it is not, but there wrong ) if u wanna try it what i did is download cyanogen (cm9) http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=maguro&type=nightly, then extract the LatinIME.apk file and install on ur htc . Its in the system/ app folder and I used root explorer to extract . You can find the exact same file online if you search for it but if you extract it yourself you know where its Been .....
I've been using Thumb Keyboard for almost a year across multiple devices but I am anticipating the Swiftkey 3 release. (I know there is a free beta but I'm waiting for it to be official)
Quick question, does anyone know if Swiftkey 3 will be an update to Swiftkey X (which I've already purchased) or are they going to release it as a separate app?
Normally I don't care for Go Keyboard, but it's been pretty responsive with the One X and I've been liking it a bit better than my swype keyboard.

Will be a free upgrade. Information based on their own forum.
Ice cream sandwich keyboard by Binary Bulge works great for me, if you're used to the iPhone keyboard then this keyboard will be very easy to use.
tossing in my vote for Swiftkey
more specifically Swiftkey X and now Swiftkey 3 (beta)
auto-prediction is awesome.

Thanks! I was able to find their Tweet about it after you mentioned they had said it themselves. Good to know.
Try Hacker's Keyboard... I loved it on my Captivate, Atrix and Galaxy Nexus. It's completely customizable and offers tons of options.
For the One X, I actually stuck with the stock keyboard for now, it's actually pretty good in my opinion.
I switched from Swiftkey to the stock ICS keyboard that's available on the market
I actually don't mind the htc keyboard on this phone, besides the arrow keys. That said, chalk another one up for Swiftkey 3 Beta. That keyboard is amazing.
So I've been trying some of the many new ROMs we've seen lately. I've read through the bug reports and searched around cannot find anyone else having this issue. I install Swype Beta on every ROM and usually it works fine. However on some of the new ones it randomly won't want to swipe anymore. It starts acting like a normal keyboard. It worked just fine on the CM rom port Alpha 6. But it messes up on the recent Miui and the new Mik Sense v0.4 or something along those lines. Is this swypes fault or the ROM? should I reinstall one or the other?
I've had the same issues with Mik Sense v0.4. It might be a multi-touch thing because I was having similar issues with other apps.
I have the same issue intermittantly on CM9 and JB using FlexT9. The added dimension is that voice to text won't work either when the swype typing is jacked. When the swype typing is OK so is voice to text.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I vaguely recall having issues with getting the default keyboard to work when removing swype from bulletproof - doubt that info helps, but it did cause a headache on a modified stock gingerbread build.

I think you're dead on with the multi-touch issue. It only happens if I've been pecking the keyboard instead of swiping. For instance, if I type half a text by just pressing letters then try to swipe, it wont work. But then after the screen is inactive awhile it goes back to working. So now I'm guessing it's the rom itself?
On Sense ROMS there is a really cook function called trace. It uses the Stock KB but allows you to swype around to text.
My opinion is Swype sucks, it always has and always will*Please don't flame for my opinions. Anyways trace won't help on AOSP but it will sure fix the Sense issue.
I'm not thinking its due to multitouch at all, we always had issues on the HTC EVO Shift not wanting to swype for us after a few so once we all learned about what HTC provided in the keyboard settings we all loved it.

Could you elaborate on this trace a little? I've been running sense and never even heard of it. I really liked the ROM besides me not being able to use swype. If this is an adequate replacement I'm definitely up for testing it out.

Its in the keyboard and ROM settings. Give me a bit to flash back to virtuous infinity and ill post a screen shot or 2. Also so I can remember how to activate it ( I suffer short term memory loss, but who don't lmao ) be back in a bit man

Mind if I do?
Settings->Language & keyboard->HTC Sense Input->Trace keyboard
And this is how it looks. You can change the trace color under the advanced settings
