This is the page that came up from my Handango email and it worked fine.
Ive not downloaded but saw a note at the bottom so dont all start moaning you got charged...
You will be preselected to download Handango's DPS (Download Protection Service) for $4.99 during checkout. You may deselect this option to complete your free download.

Yeah, they're not being sneaky about it though. It's actually quite obvious when you get to the checkout page and it says "amount due $4.99".
It's a bit of a con though, because the download protection basically just means you can download it again if you need to (within 1 year!!) So when you buy software at handango, you're not really buying the software. You're buying the opportunity to download the software once. That's all.
Bloody cheek.
Well spotted and thanks for the heads-up on the return of Free App Friday. Really appreciate the info ribcage
the freebie is pocket informant 9. i'm not familiar with it. i have thumbcal right now and greatly pleased with it. do you think it's still worthwhile to get pocket informant?

As you can get it for free today, why don't you just try? It is a program that I never used and I never planned to buy it for 20 bucks. But now I took the free offer and I have to admit that I'm impressed, it's definitely a couple of levels above the build-in WM-stuff. I will use it on definitely.
BTW: Big THX to OP for this awesome hint!!!
The dlownload process is a bit skewed. There is no link to a .cab file. You'll get .exe file which the HD2 can't use. You need to decompress the .cab file out of the .exe file by using 7-zip.
Once the 2 .cab files pop out, I have no clue which one to actually install. I installed the non-SP one because I couldn't get a reply from the other thread on this subject.
I don't know if that is the correct one, though, so be wise and research it.
thank you for the info, ribcage. had no idea about it
i went through the long process of trying to get this app only to be told there is some kind of error.
i gave it 5 goes with no luck!
i then went through there customer support process to be told they would get back to me in 1 - 2 working days which means next week right.
do you think i will still get it free then?
i was thinking they seem like a good company with a nice set up, i might at some point buy an app or 2.
if i get this much grief for a free app tho they can kiss my money good bye.

You run the .exe on your computer with your phone connected. It will download the necessary cabs and start the installation on the phone.

I did it a different way. I uncompressed the .exe file with 7zip and copied one of the two .cab files that appeared. The only thing, I have no idea which one of them I needed to install. One of the .cab files had "SP" in the name.
I installed the one without the "SP" and so far I haven't seen any troubles.
Anyone know what last weeks Free app was?

Thanks for the welcome feedback everyone. Just a reminder for today, the handango free app is MemoryUp Pro-Mobile RAM Booster. I haven't tested it yet, but it downloaded just fine. The regular price is $14.99 so it's worth a shot.
The Free app today at Handango is...
GpsSpot for Windows Mobile Touch Screen.
Enjoy!
http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.hulu.bookmark/
Has anyone tested it yet?
I wonder if it actually plays video, or it's just browsing the site... The description is pretty bare.
Interesting...didn't they just re-block hulu on android yesterday? Since it clearly states that the developer isn't affiliated with hulu, I'd be very wary of dishing out money for something that will most likely get blocked by hulu.
Ok, so it seems to work, with a few caveats...no fullscreen?? High res takes you to the real hulu.com, which denies access based on platform.
As far as i can tell, this is the only way to successfully watch Hulu. Worth $1.50...until it gets blocked of course...

Wait, so all videos are playing? Or only a sub-set of Hulu's content?
If so, couldn't we just go to Hulu Mobile (somehow) via the browser and have it work? What URL does it take you to via the app?
I can confirm the videos do play, but this app is a mess...testing mobile site now, will report back

Use the app for more than 5 minutes then tell me its worth a penny. Need to go back to your homescreen? Good luck getting back to your video...The app opens a new instance of itself every time. No fullscreen? Tolerable. No way to exit the program? Ridiculous.
This dev doesnt deserve a dollar. Its just a cash grab. But Im sure the dev will appreciate suckers like you who think bookmarking a website qualifies as a paid app. What is it exactly that you are paying for? No thanks.
I encourage everyone with Froyo to try this out and report back here. Is it worth your money?

It must be just a website, minus the URL bar.
So what's that glorious URL that they're hiding?...

good link, also you can use other browsers that allow hiding the task bar so you can get full screen. Skyfire works well for me.
Guys, please keep the flaming down. Also, no discussions about cracking or finding "workarounds" for paid apps are allowed in this site. That falls under the category of warez as well.
@FuzeAction, consider this a friendly warning.

To be fair, it looks like this "paid app" is nothing more than a browser without the address bar. That's not very honest.
I would have to agree that this is not a "work around". Its just going to a website that already exists. Thats like saying going to the facebook mobile site is a "work around" for Bloo.
BTW anyone who installed this app... is it still working or has hulu blocked it?

I don't see why it should matter if a link is posted in this particular case - in order to use Swype, you had to sign up for the beta months ago. It's my understanding (I have been wrong once or twice. ) that the ESN of the phone is linked to the email address used when you signed up.
I use it and have re-installed every time it's been updated. Every time, I have to provide my email address & password during the install process.

Correct, at least about having to sign in (idk what exactly swype uses to verify your beta eligibility) regardless though, you need to have a beta account in order to use it.
So even if I did PM you guys the swype.apk it wouldn't work without my account sign-in info.. Not gonna happen
If you want a "3rd party" one that's not official. Look else where or something because it'll never get posted here.
As for the topic at hand, The only way you'd get themes for it on XDA is from a MetaMorph. Haven't seen any threads on that tho. Try searching all the forums

I had "lost" my invitation email and needed to reinstall Swype at one point, so I searched around in their forums. I read a lot of references to the ESN being linked, so that's where I got my information.
Side note about the ESN: Apparently, the beta allows you to "upgrade" your phone once (change ESNs). Then if you do it again, you have to contact them directly to allow a third phone to use the beta. I found it interesting.
Even after impaler's warning, there were 3 requests for the apk, all of which have been deleted. In order to save you guys from yourselves (since requesting warez is against the rules), I will close this thread.
I have one question. If i found aplication that is not free on market but posted online like .apk and I download to pc. After that transfer to my phone via usb then install on it, am i going to be chargred for that app or there is no way that anyone can charge me or know that i have one? Thanks.

No, you will not be charged for it.
I should remind you that this is piracy, which is not encouraged.

only downside also to taking a apk on a torrent or whateve u will rarely get updates...more likely none

Btw any good app for VPN (cisco) does not meter if has to be paid as long that work propertly?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i am not condoning piracy, but yes it is possible to just download an app from the web. appbrain does a good (but accidental) job of telling you when they need updates. you will need to find another version online though to manually update.
applanet is baisically all this but inside a single app. it is a pirated android market. once again, i dont encourage piracy, niether do i use it.

As someone who develops Android apps - please just go pay for it. We put a lot of effort into making these things and it's only a few dollars. The dollar you just saved was food you just took off someones table.
That said, any Android developer worth his salt should have already implemented the Market License feature. The new license model can remotely validate that your copy is legit and allows the developer to respond how they choose.
In my apps, I lock you out and show a nag screen with a market link... but I know some devs who just quietly phone home with your device ID and phone number.

Hi, I would be very please if I get a load of replies to this saying
"Here it is you moron, why cant you search"
But believe me I have and I cant find an answer to my situation.
Here it is.
I have a very long speech to learn (I have to say it off by heart) and I have recorded it on my phone but all the apps I have found gives poor sound quality.
I do, however, have the speech in .doc and .pdf format and I was wondering if there is any way I can get an app that would read those files to me. I am not to bothered about a natural voice or anything, I just want to be able to play it back to myself so I can learn the speech.
Many thanks

It must be able to be done because it can be done on PC.
The only way I have managed it is to move the document to my PC and and then use a programme called
Natural Reader
to turn it into mp3 file.
Its a free download, free to use, but to save as MP3 you need to buy it.
Its very good and has different voices....
Just need to get it on android app

I know, without apple we wouldnt have smart phones, Steve Jobs has my thanks for that, but I still would never buy one. It grated me to buy an iPod for my daughter..but she "just needed" one, even though her phone could hold just as many songs and was easier to configure and manage...
For pdf files you can use ezpdf reader , it has the tts function and you can choose the language you want.
The files needed are available on the market and it does read whats on the screen. I had gotten it setup on my phone before I replied so im not just randomly spewing hypotheticals. I even wowed my son when he texted me and my phone read his text to me. But oh well, good luck.
