So, I went to one of my local Best Buys in excitement, as the online locater showed the Sprint HTC Touch Pro in stock.
I got there, and of course the lady tech person said that she was not allowed to sell the phone until tomorrow. I asked if she could see her manager and get an exception, as I plan on driving to Orlando, FL tomorrow for a 2-month long business trip, and that I wanted to buy it from my local Best Buy.
I planned on buying it outright, as I'm not quite to my 1-year point on my HTC (Sprint) Mogul, but I've been watching the Raphael since I first heard about it back in March.
However, I went in expecting a $569 MSRP on the phone. They instead tried to sell it to me at the 'Regular' price of $749.99.
Am I being delusional thinking that Best Buy should be selling it outright at MSRP? Do I maybe have the wrong MSRP in my head?
I mean, $200 over MSRP for a cell phone doesn't quite make sense to me, seeing as the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is still giving Best Buy a decent profit.
For anyone that wants the information, here's what Best Buy printed out for me:
Regular Price: $749.99
Upgrades - Individual and Family Plans (includes Sprint Rebate)
1 Year Agreement: $459.99
2 Year Agreement: $299.99
2 Year New Plan & Additional Lines
Family Plan Lines 2-5: $299.99
Rate Plan Below $59.99: $299.99
Rate Plan Above $59.99: $279.99
They were screwing with you. I picked up 2 today for $299 - 20% Rewardzone smartphone discount. The unconnected price sounds about right as the BestBuy price on the Touch Pro seems rather low (Sprint want $249 after a $100 MIR for the Diamond).
In the end, after selling my 2 moguls, I'll have upgraded for less than $150 to 2 Touch Pros. I'm pretty happy right now.
They weren't screwing with him, that is what they charge if you don't sign a new contract. Sign a new 2 year and you'll have no problem getting it for 299.

Where did you get 2 for $299? I didn't think the phone was available yet...
Interesting "Currency" Play
How about this.... and disclaimer, I've never dealt with this website and have no idea how good/bad they are, however they are selling on ebay, so in order to continue to do biz on ebay you generally have to have good feedback. Anyway, here's the deal: http://www.cellengros.com/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=1263
$799 CAD (Canadian dollars), which at today's exchange rate of $0.78 per $1 Canadian) is about $625 US Dollars. (plus shipping). That compares very favorably with current prices on Ebay and the $750 US you quoted from Best Buy.
Has anyone ever dealt with these guys before? (or I could wait a week and get the Sprint/AT&T version, but the number pad on the ATT version kind of annoys me and i'm pretty sure that's the route i will have to go (wife on ATT)...)

assuming price with new contract is 300 - 20% = $240
how did you get each TP for $150? that's one heck of a deal!

Uh do the math? lol
$240 x 2 = $480 = Price of 2 TP's
$115 x 2 = $330 = Price of him selling 2 Moguls?
So $480-$330 = $150? Btw. I think he meant both for $150.
i called my local bb, they said that they dont sell the phone outright. was gonna buy it and return it when it came out for sprint on next sunday lol... guess that got shut down

ok that makes sense...i thought he meant the price he actually paid for the phones, not after subtracting the amount he got for selling Mogul
Best Buy does allow you to buy the phones outright, perhaps he thought you were a reseller, or had a wait list of people wanting the phone
Picked mine up at BB yesterday $238.00 after tax.

I meant that they were screwing with him by claiming they could not sell it yet.
I don't know where some of you are located but my Best Buy sells phones outright. I can also confirm that the Touch Pro can be purchased for $299 (New customer or upgrade price) plus 20% if you are a Rewards Zone member with no mail in rebates. More info can be found from the link below. It runs through November 1st.
https://myrewardzone.bestbuy.com/
Pictures of the phone anyone?
I got mine for 239.99. ($256.79 after taxes).
I'm still going to try and send the $100 mail in rebate because I have one that doesnt specify the phone had to be bought from a sprint store or sprint.com... nothing to lose sending that in.
And yeah signed a 2 year agreement.
Here's a copy of my receipt..

Weird that they charged me an extra $16.... only thing i can think of is that they applied the 20% before all the instant savings to you, and they gave it to me AFTER the instant savings... retail was ~$750 like the OP said.
I only qualify for the$75 via sprint store. So i would have to pay $750. NO way in hell im paying that much. Ill wait till next Sunday to get it cheaper via sprint store.
yeah i picked up a touch pro from bestbuy for 240.00 also using the extra 20 percent off card for smartphones a great steal and selling my mogul for 150 made out of pocket cost 90.00

it will not cost you 750 if your elligible for the one year upgrade i think its more like 4 or 450 just call the store and ask but there are 3 prices. 2 yr upgrade, 1 yr, and no upgrade
For those looking to buy a gtab, buy.com has them for $382 with free shipping. Not a bad deal.
I have one for sale. $335 I'll handle shipping. it's still in perfect condition Ships w/ everything, running TNT-Lite.
EDIT: SOLD, Thanks richmcgillicuddy!
PM me.
just got one
I bought my gtab at office depot Sunday. I had a $100 reward card from them, so I only paid $311.34 total cost. should be here on Thursday. I'm pretty excited.Still deciding which is the best rom for me.
Also available at tigerdirect.com ($399) [in stock at this time].
Amazon, too
Amazon's got them listed as low as $369 with $7 shipping....but not sure about the person's rating. However, Amazon's also listing them new for $380.
I bought a G Tablet, and my wife loved it. I decided to buy her a new one from Office depot. After about a week, she realized she wants a keyboard (Dell inspiron duo, even though theres no Android.)
I could return it, but Office depot has a really horrible 14 day return policy, and if the box has been opened, you can only get store credit.
So, if anyone wants a perfect condition Gtab, I'll give you it for like $100 off.
Im asking $350, plus $10 flat rate USPS to the US.
[UPDATE]
I will probably get an email faster than I reply to a PM...

You could just buy her a keyboard case... I got one here designed for the G Tab that I'll sell to you for $20 + shipping (I paid $25 + shipping and waited 3 weeks for it to get here from China). Its leather and is a really nice case. Otherwise, good luck selling it for that much.
I just noticed the HP Touchpad Touchstone back at HP.com for $55, but there's also a $10 off coupon code, that brings it to $50.01 after tax (for me at least).
Here's the link to the product page: http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/FB339AA%23ABA?
Here's the coupon code: SVP471394
I just wanted to share it with everyone since I've been looking for a good Touchstone deal for days now and I finally found one! I hope it helped
I was able to get one from ebay for $38 shipped.
wow, I checked eBay for a while and almost every one was over $50 before the auction was even over...
I got mine for 40 at walmart
staples has them for 40 bucks, and all other accessories are 50% off at bestbuy/futureshop! I got em all!
I got an email from HP that had a 25% off coupon over the whole out of stock debacle, used that for a case and a touchstone. It expired after 2 days however, so it's no longer valid. I'm just happy they got both those items back in stock before it expired.

None of the Staples or BestBuys near me have anything... OfficeDepot had amazing prices on everything but they sold out insanely fast.
Also, I didn't even think of that 25% off coupon....haha that would be awesome if I could have used that...
HP in the UK will take orders for them, quoting ~10 days till stock arrives. £34.50, works out about $56 with free delivery.
The HP Canada online store has them for $39.99 with free shipping in Canada. Posted coupon code will not work in Canadain store (hey, it was worth a try). I've checked with every store within 150Km of my home and none are available.
I went to Wal-Mart and found 2 on the shelf along with the wireless keyboard. I got asked the manager I called Office Depot and had them do a price check, would they match the price. He said sure. So I got all the stuff for 50% off. Pretty nice!!! I'm using the keyboard and the charging station right now.
got a touchstone and 2 genuine cases for £52 at a small carphone warehouse a couple of days ago, then yesterday I got the wireless keyboard for £20 and the international charger for £10 from pc world. The stuff is still out there hanging on racks if you look around
HP cases available again at HP web store 9 Sep 11
Just bought 2 for $30 each with free shipping plus a $10 off coupon for orders over $50. HPSAVE10
Hopefully some of you can get in on this!
Tim
Don't know why the link isn't working... Use it then search "touchpad case"

Did anybody else get one?
I bought the last hp case they had for $23 great deal
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Try the HP company store and use the coupon in the header. Brings the Touchstone down to $45.00 and the case to $24.00 plus tax with free shipping. Good luck.
save15hp
i saw probably 4 of them at walmart yesterday for $50... i'm not interested so i didn't buy it... would like to get a case though
I think they're out of stock again. While the product page doesn't say so, after you finish ordering, HP sends you an email telling you that they cannot process your order. I tried twice and it didn't work both times.
About the coupon, the HP cart accepts it and even reflects the discount, but as soon as it goes to paypal, the amount changes over to the original cost of the products.
Beware!
The cases are back in stock, I just got 2 of them at $19.99 a piece!
I don't think I can post links yet but Google search: HP Touchpad Case and you will see it in HP Direct store. =)
Hopefully others can add to this;

A 16GB TF101 with a dock costs $499+13% tax here = $564 CDN or $560 US
Tablet alone is $399
I noticed that in the UK, the same unit would be at least $720 US
OUCH
if you decide to add your own details please add taxes and as well maybe convert to US$ so that all of us around the Net can easily compare.
in the netherlands now on sale
i saw a tf101 16 gig without a keyboard here on sale for 513 usd incl sales tax .Normally it goes for 555 usd over the counter.
with keybord ad 97 usd .i bought my 32 gig without a keybord for 606 usd
Most shops in Italy from the beginning offered the TF101 16GB (no dock) at the suggested retail price of 399 euro (vat included); online shops offer(ed) with significant discount as low as 330 euro (vat included).
At the end of may I have bought my TF101 (no dock) for the price of 332.58 euro (20% tax included) which at the current exchange rate (24 Oct) is roughly equivalent to 462 USD.
edit: forgot to mention the storage size
I payed 4 380 SEk for mine with a Dock/keyboard. That comes to app. $665, of that 20% is sales tax, so without tax $535 which isn't all that much of from the US at $499 with Dock. The only way I would make money on it buying from the US is if customs would forget to charge me. That would only happen if the US retailer used a minor shipper (Not FedEx, UPS or similar, since they are diligent about paying customs).
I've bought mine in August (16 Gb + Dock) for 499€ and got a 100€ voucher back (23% tax).
Portugal.
I paid €500 ($692) for a 16GB Transformer (B50) and dock (B60).
Edit: And I'm in Ireland.
I am in South Africa and the price going at the moment is $445.22 excluding 14% tax.
Thanks for all the replies......What started this curiosity on my part was an Australian review on the TF. In that the writer noted a $20AUD price difference between the TF and IPad, which in my opinion is not significant. Here in Canada the Ipad starts at $519 plus 13%taxes, bringing the difference (to the base TF) to around $135 US.
Considering the versatility of the TF over the Ipad and that extra $100+ in your pocket I can see for sure why the TF has been a success, but if they (IPad vs TF) were priced almost identical that would be a tough choice. There's something to be said for the maturity of the Apple ecosystem, and frankly every time i load an app onto the TF from the Marketplace and it fails to preform as expected I scream.
I may not mind hacking, tweaking, testing etc on my device, but the masses out there simply want a device that works.
So would i spend the same money on a TF over an Ipad....yep
What would I suggest for the same money that my Grandmother buy...the Ipad
And the above partly explains why almost 3 out of 4 tablets sold worldwide is an Ipad
