make sure the usb cable is not connected to pc
Ok, It was disconnected but still won't work. Same error message.
u can adb uninstall open home, or if u have jf recovery,
home + power
alt + x
mount data
rm -r /data/app/com.betterandroid.openhome.apk
if you have adb setup(which you should if you are modding the phone) type this command
Code:
adb shell am start -a androic.action.intent.MAIN -n com.android.settings.Settings
type it exactly as that and settings will start up for you. had to do this myself when dxtop wouuldn't load
thanks all, i havnt tried most of these because seanos fix worked, but im definetly going to keep the command lines for next time or whatever problem may come up. anyway, now i am just having trouble installing the glossuite theme, keeps saying that the file or directory isnt found. like i said before, i used the same steps i did with jf1.42 and 1.43, but ever since i came up to 1.5 i keep getting that error. (yes, i am using johnowa's glossuite port for jf1.5). any ideas? i couldnt find anything on it in the themes forum

you failed to unmount the card from your computer properly and the file was never written to the card. plug it back in, copy and paste, wait a minute, unmount card, run update
that wasnt it, i redownloaded the file, and tried it again and it worked. earlier when i originally downloaded it, my computer crashed halfway thru the download, and it continued after i started back up, so im assuming something was corrupted in that whole thing. works now tho, i shoulda thought of redownloading it sooner
I have a WiFi only Xoom and it is unlocked/rooted.
I decided to use the hack on the stock browser which enables fulltime desktop mode. I downloaded the apk, renamed it to framework-res.apk and dropped in system/framework and overwrote the existing file. I dl the file from http://forum.androidcentral.com/xoom-rooting-roms-hacks/75616-full-browser.html
I've since discovered that had I read further into the thread, I would have known not to use the file on a WiFi Xoom.
The gist of my problem is I have managed to finally get the Xoom to boot to the homescreen but It's force close city. As soon as I force close one app, others come up (FC) too. The one FC that will not go away is Launcher. it will FC loop forever. The Google/Mic in the top left corner is missing but the bottom bar has the normal icons, but I can't use them because I am stuck in a FC loop. I also get stuck/locked up while rebooting using the power button and volume down and have to use the power/volume up to restart.
I'm wondering if I use the the same one click root file (with kernel) that I still have and root again if this may fix the issue?
Perhaps their may be an easier method if I am only missing the one (framework-res.apk) file I overwrote?
Any help would be most appreciated.
You wanted a new theme right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015434
This theme has the framework you are looking for.
Or.. this is the original Wifi Xoom system dump. It may be in there. (I'm at work so i cant check myself)

Just got home and read your post and do appreciate it.

I did the same thing my friend, twice in fact. Actually it was likely my post you are referencing above Second time around I still had USB debugging turned on so I didn't have to reload the images.
Do you have the original .apk backed up? If not, i'm attaching it. What I did to fix this was using the adb shell, I remounted the file system as rw and adb pushed the original .apk. You're good to go after that. Hope you have your USB Debugging still turned on
Hope this helps.

Are you stuck at the dual core screen? If so can you get into fastboot? You would have to flash the system and boot .img I believe. This is what I had to do when i bricked my wifi without having the USB Debugging turned on. Don't lose hope, you likely do not have a $600 paperweight on your hands.
joen1ce,
I cant thank you enough for your help and time as well as uploading the file for me. Thank you.
I do have dubugging turned on and can boot to the home screen. Actually I have gotten a bit further. I found that if I hit "ok" and force close and quickly continued to hit the time on the lower right corner, I could eventually get into the setting menu. Takes a lot of "tapping" to get it to work, but it did. I am able to get into the reset option but it simply wont work. I push the button and nothing happens. I even tried using bluetooth via my Fascinate and Xoom to see what I could do with the apk you uploaded within the xoom since I could get into the bluetooth downloads, but no worky.
Upon startup, I find that I can get into "Starting fastboot protocol support" as well as well as RSD - Fastboot and NvFlash. Although, I still cant get the Xoom to talk with the computer. I have a Mac with Windows installed and have neither will communicate with the Xoom.
I'm not overly savy with ADB and am not sure if I would know what to do with a boot.img nor where to put it let alone the commands needed to make it work with no communication between devices.
I do have SDK/ADB and the Fastboot (.exe) both on the Mac and Windows side.
I can do an exchange on the Xoom but would rather fix it myself and consider it a valuable learning experience, but I'm at my wit's end.

Copy the apk file I uploaded to the directory where you have the adb files. Go to the command line and switch to that same directory.
Let the device reboot to the point where you get those damn force close messages.
at the command line type:
adb devices
you should see your device listed there. If so, do the following:
adb shell
mount
You should see all the mounts on your device listed. Copy the path for system you will need it for this next part. It may be exactly like mine. So next you will type in:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/system /system
the "/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/system" above is the true path
to my /system mount. Use whatever the path yours is mounted to from the previous command.
Next hit ctrl + c to exit out of the shell and at the command line type this:
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
If the above was successful you should be able to reboot the device and be back in business.
You fixed it!!
joen1ce, I can't begin to thank you enough for your help Took me a couple tries as well as rebooting the Xoom for it to take but by god it worked!!!
I'm sure your post will help others out out in future too. As the WiFi Xoom becomes more popular, I'm sure this will happen again to more people looking to modify their Xoom stock browser to desktop mode.
I'm thinking their should be a sticky on bricking with possible fixes and your post should be noted for sure.

No problem, glad I could help. I bricked my Xoom basically within an hour of buying it and I know how it feels, especially when trying to be moral and not return it! Had it about a week now and it's my first Android device so I'm new to these forums. But the helpfulness of the community is very impressive indeed.

Joe

joen1ce. Could you please help? I am stuck at the Dual Core Screen and cannot get my computer to recognize my device in adb. I am trying to return to stock 3.2.1.
OK, I've read a lot of comments about people having trouble installing MoDaCo clockworkmod, or even turning their devices S-off. But my guide is going to go step though step of how to turn your device into a lean, mean killing machine. It took me days to accomplish this when i first got my device, hopefully this will take you under 30 minutes! I'm a junior member, i know, so cut me some slack, PLEASE.
WARNING AND DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE. FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK, EVEN IF IT FALLS APART IN YOUR HAND, OR BECOMES GODLY FAST!
1. The first thing we need to do is turn S-OFF for your mytouch 4g slide. It is probably the easiest thing to do, other then installing a rom on your device.
a. You will need to download the usb drivers for your phone, DON'T SKIP THIS STEP, or you'll wonder why your phone isn't discovered by the software. You can find those drivers at this website right here:
http://www.htc.com/managed-assets/support/software/htc-sync/setup_3.0.5579.exe
After you have that software installed, plug in your phone, and give it a couple minutes to install all the correct drivers for your device, then make sure you go to the bottom right of the computer and exit out of that software, it can't be running when your trying to S-OFF your device. Now I dont think you have to have the fastboot drivers installed either, but why not, lets go ahead and download those files and get those installed too.
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
After you have those installed, its now time to move on.
b. Now thanks to unrevoked and AlphaRev and their team, you will go to their site at http://revolutionary.io/ and you will scroll down and click on Download for Windows (If you can take everything I'm saying and do the linux version, right on!) at that moment a download box will appear, but do not download those files, download the files from this website http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BP2E3ZQ3 .But you will need to enter some information in the box below after you click on windows download, just remember, you don't need those files. Your operating system, device, HBOOT version, and serial number. Your HBOOT version can be found by taking your device, going to apps, settings, power, and uncheck fast boot, then power it off, i always power it off and then pull the battery out, makes me feel safer...and soon as its off, holding the volume down button, camera button, and power button all at the same time. You'll then see a screen with the android bots on the bottom are rolling on skateboards. At the top should be your HBOOT version, and there is only one option on the site, so hopefully your in luck! For your serial number, take the battery out from this screen, don't push any buttons, and on the sticker under the battery, your serial number will be there starting with HT--- or power your device back on, then go to apps, settings, about phone, phone identity, and wala, your device serial number. After you enter all that information into the site, it will generate you a beta key, YOU NEED THAT IN ORDER TO S-OFF AND ROOT YOUR DEVICE!! So write it down somewhere, copy and paste in word, do what you do
c. Now we have everything downloaded, we have our beta key, its time to get to work!
d. The file you downloaded from megaupload, "MT4GS-ADB-WINDOWS" you need to extract that file into a folder on your desktop. Make sure you open the folder mt4gs-adb, and extract the files out of the folder, so you should have 12 items in your folder on the desktop, not just a folder in a folder! I created a folder called "root mt4gs". You want all the files in one location. After there all extracted, open your folder on the desktop. On your phone, go to apps, settings, applications, development, and click on usb debugging and make sure the check mark is blue on the right. Now plug your phone into the computer.
Now in your "root mt4gs" folder, double click on revolutionary. At that moment it should ask you for that beta key i told you to save. Go ahead and enter that now (its case sensitive). Let the software run for a couple minutes....
Now after it says S-Off, your halfway there!! Your HBOOT will now say 1.44.1107. That way you know its done! It will ask you to install clockwork recovery mod, say NOOOO, it has hella problems. It gave me problems when i said yes the first time, i'll show you another way.
e. At this moment, we're going to install clockwork recovery v4.0.0.9, thanks to Paul O'Brien/MoDaCo, the gods lol. First, turn your device off/pull the battery out, thats what i do. Then hold volume down button, camera button, and power button at the same time. It should show you the skateboarding androids, and at the top it should say -Revolutionary- in purple. If it doesn't, don't continue, retry all steps or message me. Then plug your phone into the computer, and using the power button as the selection button, push the power button as your highlighted over FASTBOOT. It should say FASTBOOT USB at the top in red now.
Now believe it or not you already have the file you need in your "root mt4gs" folder. Your now going highlight all the files in your "root mt4gs" folder to the root of your hard drive. Click on My computer, double click on your c: drive, and paste those files right on there, do not copy the folder, or put these files in a folder!! Now your going open a command prompt. {Hold the windows key and tap r}. Then type "cmd" without the parenthesis and it should open up a black box.
Now type cd\
Your command prompt should now just say c:\> thats what you want it to say
Now your going to type adb.exe
You should see a whole bunch of words flash on the command prompt, the last couple words should say "bug tags are printed." That means your right on track.
From here, you are going to type in fastboot devices
it should have the serial number of your device and the word fastboot right next to it!
Now, here comes the tricky part that i got stuck at, but i know you can do it! Now this will work if you put the files exactly where i told you to put them. you now will type fastboot flash recovery c:\clockworkmod.4.0.0.9.img
it should say " sending 'recovery'
okay
writing recovery'
okay
finished. total time: (mine is 10.400s)
Now to make sure it's intalled, on your phone, click power button and you should now see fastboot, recovery, factory reset, simlock, and imagecrc as options, use your volume button to go down to recovery, and click power button.
You should now see clockworkmod recovery 4.0.0.9.
f. Now lets put superuser on your device so you can be free!
click on this file and download it, DO NOT EXTRACT IT
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
Now after you have downoaded that file, on your phone, use your trackpad, and scroll down to "mounts and storage"
then scroll down to mount usb storage. now you should be able to put files on your sd card, make sure you put it on the root of your sd card, not in a folder, it doesn't matter, but i prefer it!.
Now unmount on your phone by clicking the option, click go back, and then scroll down to "install zip from sdcard" and click on it, then click "choose zip from sdcard". Find that file we just put on there "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip", and click on it, then click yes. Now click on go back, and click reboot system now!
Now if you want to stay stock, your done, your rooted, so now just install root checker, and busybox, and your good to go, if you want to do some roms, keep on reading.
Now you cross your fingers, and grab a soda, because we're 75% done!
g. Now is the easy part, all you do now is download the roms from other developers, copy them to your sdcard, then turn off the phone, hold volume down, camera and power button, go into recovery with using vol up and down buttons as the selector, and the power button to confirm your option. As you enter clockwork mod, you can then go follow the directions of the developer as to wipe certain sections, and how to install there roms/patches. YOUR DONE
If you have any questions, please let me know, also I didn't make ANY of this software, this guide just has every link to get you everything you need at one spot. I also have the original file to make your phone completely stock, so if you need that, let me know and I'll upload that and send the link out.

Ok let's figure this out.. on step f, you did unmount your sd card, right? I haven't dealt with this problem before so if I ask a stupid question, I'm just trying to solve this. Also you don't need to wipe anything to install superuser, so that could be the problem also, so reboot ur fone, and let's try step f again! Keep me updated please!

It took a lot of us several attempts to flash the superuser zip. The 4.0.0.8 recovery isn't the greatest. Keep trying until it installs and you get root. Then upgrade to the modaco 4.0.0.9 recovery right away. It's not perfect either but it fixes a LOT of the issues known with 4.0.0.8.
And a comment to the OP, this is an incredibly helpful walkthrough! If only people would actually search and find this before posting new threads like "how do i root" and all that crap.
Thank you.

I know something is goofy as SU wouldnt flash, I had to install the new version from the market.

Oh, now i understand. No there isn't. I don't have one at all, as soon as I installed clockworkrecovery, and superuser, I flashed undeads rom on there. And I've been reading that superuser is being buggy when installing it on this phone through cwm...I'll look into that tonight, see if i can find the root cause.

You probably just have to download ROM Manager from the market, I think that's what you're referring to. There isn't a whole lot of support for our device in ROM manager right now, however, and I haven't checked to see if the "reboot into recovery" works. Go into settings > power > and uncheck fastboot. Then, shut down your phone, wait 10 seconds, hold down the volume down button and turn your phone back on. That'll get you into recovery. Did you get superuser to install? Are you rooted?
Mine won't switch from "revolutionary" in purple at the top to "fastboot" at the top.
It says fastboot USB about 6 lines down, but that's it.
When I type "fastboot devices" it errors and says:
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
anyone know what's up?
Hi
I rooted my phone today. Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570.
It went quite well. I deleted all the bloatware that I didn't want etc.
After all that was gone I starting disabling things that I thought was extra. At one point the phone switched off and didn't come on again. I rebooted it and when it did come back on the only things I can access now are the notification panel at the top of my page, my volume control and the power key. The screen has gone black. I cant use anything else now. Its obvious I've disabled the home screen or something.
What can I do, if anything?
Really appreciate any help. Thank you.

You have removed the "homescreen" (Launcher)
Do you have usb debugging enabled?
If so then you can move a launcher apk to /data/app
(if you need a launcher apk and instructions to do this then ask me )
if not then go find a cwm launcher installer (if you have recovery installed)
and flash that.
It will give you a launcher to work with.
If you need help with modding or removing apps, etc.
Then you can pm me so we don't spam this thread.
Use Samsung PC suite it will fix all the errors in your phone then root it again.

An apk is an application package for android.
The homescreen is the app that is run when you unlock the screen. (It is also known as the launcher)
You will need the drivers for your phone.
Which you can obtain from your manufacturers website. (Example: Samsung mesmerize > Support > downloads > driver.msi)
I have attached a zip file that needs to be extracted. (I put it together just for you )
Once extracted you must go inside the extracted folder and double click the start file.
Follow the instructions from there.
You will not need to connect wirelessly so just press enter.
It does almost all the work for you.
It's not a flash zip.
Its a script.
Go herehttp://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/GT-S5570EGAMET-downloads
Then install the kies from software tab
run that and plug your phone in with usb.
Then let it detect it and install whatever is necessary.
Make sure it has a connection then try my tool.
My tool is a Windows script.
For Windows.
Not Android.
Extract my zip and run the start file.
If it detects your device then let it fix your stuff.
It cant get any clearer than that. Really appreciate this. I just need to get onto the computer now. Will do it in the next 24 hours and let you know how I get on.

I have a zip here as an attachment. (The Cwm veersion of my homescreen Repair)
Don't use it without a backup in recovery.
You might have to disable signature checking.
Make sure you put the zip on the sd card of the phone.
Goto mounts and storage in recovery and make sure that /data is MOUNTED!
I repeat, Mount /data FIRST.
Then go flash the zip from the sdcard or adb sideload(>Haven't tested sideloading)
Reboot. Enjoy.
Update!
It doesn't work for some reason.
Can I get a dev to help me?
Bump.

i been using custom ROM since i got my nexus 5. Never really had any problem so far. i started testing Carbon hammerhead few days ago on 20140325 nightly.. didn't had any problem and update to 20140328 by copying the zip file to the root and now i am trying to update to their new release but having problem copying files on phone, keeps giving me error saying "Cannot copy item - The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". i have Android Debugging is enabled, checked on unknown sources, checked on Media device (MTP). Anyone know how to solve this problem !!!
thanks

Try unchecking Android Debugging. I can't seem to copy files unless that is unchecked.

Try and reboot the phone and the PC. Then reconnect the phone to the PC with USB debugging disabled.
If not maybe check your PC drivers.
You could also use adb to push the ROM.

It's possible that it could be the ROM but I'd think it has something more to do with your PC if it was working before.
Do you know of some update or change recently on the PC?
What error did you get when trying to push the ROM?
Let us know if it works once your back to stock.

I have few suggestions. If you are trying to copy zip file to phone, then dont do it. Put all the files you need in a folder and then copy to phone.
if it still gives error then try to copy to Downloads folder.
I had issues copying rar,zip files to phone. Due to filename length sometimes it doesnt allow you to copy.

When i had such an issue i put in the folder i copied the files to a ".nomedia" file. You can find this kind of files on your device storage, copy your files to this location. I think what happens is that the phone is trying to index the files and fail. The ".nomedia" file prevent it from indexing.

I heard somewhere that temporarily changing the filename extention to something else, e.g., ".bak", will solve the problem.
Why not just download it straight to the phone?

I really don't think i had any new updates on my laptop. The error that it gives me when i drag and drop the .zip file on the root folder of the phone was "Cannot copy item - The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected".
Well, flashed back to stock and rooted back again to the latest nightly released from " Carbon Hammerhead nightly ". Still wondering what went wrong !! i did the same procedure that i did last time .. hmmmmm. Will update when i do next update
thanks

will surely keep that in mind, next time i do the update
thanks
The phone isn't the problem, the zip file is most likely corrupted. Try downloading it again. I ran into this exact same issue last week

update
this is my fourth update now , since i went back to stock, root and running the same ROM. I am not sure what went wrong last time. Only thing i did extra that i remember is that i went to the advance to wipe and select all except for the system. other than that i follow the same procedure !!! could be corrupt zip file or may be something else .. really have no clue whats the main reason ....
Thanks for all the suggestion
When I first got my phone last week I tried to put some custom ROMs and mods on the internal storage but it wouldn't let me do it... so I copied a jpg image to the phone first and then it let copy the zip files
