DISCLAIMER: I really don't know what I'm doing. I basically Frankensteined a bunch of stuff together. Please NANDROID if you try this out.
Pitch black notification bar with Desire icons, except custom battery icons which I made myself which are loosely based off of the stock icons. There's a few other Desire bars floating around in forms of morphs and with lots of other customizations. I was looking for just a simple black bar with no other mods (other than battery, because I like the stock battery icon more than the Desire one). I also wanted the pulldown to be black as well.

I can create a framework-res.apk with the Desire battery icons if someone likes that instead. Here's a screenshot of what my battery icons look like:
STEPS:
1) Nandroid
2) uninstall your custom launcher
3) adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
4) Rename services.zip to services.jar. Then adb push services.jar /system/framework/services.jar
5) adb push Vending.apk /system/app/Vending.apk
6) adb reboot
7) re-install your custom launcher
Theoretically, this should work with any FRF91 ROM. However if your ROM does not run on the default launcher, there may be a problem (see issues below)
How I did it (again, I really don't know what I'm doing):
adb pulled the framework-res.apk
replaced the icons within \res\drawable-hdpi\ icons from a CM5 mod by di2356 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639556) and also my own battery icons
used the services.jar and vending.apk by Know-Fear's morph to get white font on the bar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703277)
ISSUES which I do not know how to fix. Perhaps someone who likes this style of bar can help me on it.
If you use Launcher Pro, you must uninstall it, then push these files, and re-install the launcher afterwards. The launcher crashes if it exists while the framework-res is pushed and then rebooted. I don't know if other Launchers have this same effect.
The pulldown fonts need to change to white
I would prefer the pulldown background to be more transparent. Also a patterned background would be nice too. Can someone help?
The Vending.apk must be pushed, because it crashes otherwise. I don't know why, but maybe there's a way to avoid it.
Thanks to di2356 and Know-Fear because I butchered their work to put this together. I know this is a lot of effort just to have a black bar, but I like it this way and no one else has made one yet. If anyone likes this as well and can help fix the problems and/or help simplify the install, please help. Thanks.

This is a framework-res.apk I am adding some theme elements to for froyo since its all odex and cant be fully themed yet. I did this in a few hours and when I am able to theme the whole rom I will.
NOTE: This framework-res should work on any froyo rom since they are all using the same framework for now.
How to Install:
Rename framework-res.apk
Put the framework-res.apk in the tools folder of you SDK.
Mount the tools folder with your CMD
Turn phone off and go into recovery.
adb shell mount system (Hit Enter)
adb push framework-res.apk system/framework (Hit Enter)
DONE!!!!!

anyone have the framework-res.apk from the Froyo rom? i need to push that to the system and don't know where to find it
i pushed this one and it looks great; love the color scheme on the notification bar; however, it now gets rid of my apps that were placed in the SD card (i can't see those 3 apps when the app drawer is opened up); these 3 apps were updated by the developers and allows apps2sd for Froyo; previously, on the original framework-res.apk, when i rebooted, they stayed visible when i opened the app drawer; but since pushing this framework, they disappear
so if anyone can post the original framework-res.apk from Froyo, i'd appreciate it
thanks in advance
I try to make my theme but I have a problem.
I want the notification background transparent but I don't know how to modify it.
I try different way but not success.
Anyone can help me?
Thanks

Small preview of the theme I working
I have also % of battery and trackball wakeup (thanks to eug89 for compile java)
that top grey part is called title_bar_portrait.9.png and is located on framework-res.apk. the part you want to make transparent is called status_bar_background.png and is also located in framework-res.apk
not sure if you have edited .9.pngd before but it you have to do more than just replace the image for it to look right. also im not sure if that part can be made transparent in froyo as i am currently having trouble with it. however if your making the theme for CM just adjust the transparency in photoshop, gimp etc
hope that helped
Have anybody get the status_bar_background.png transparent on FroYo ROMS?
Ok.
So the problem is froyo

i dont think so. froyo doesnt seem to allow the image to have any transparency
Theres a Xeudoxus app that patches services.jar to enable that transparency. Didn't find exact details as too which particular file (s) are affects (for morphs). I hate when people do that (hiding details ), I will investigate after work.
For more info see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700703
Thanks Britoso.
Now I have the theme with transparent.
Now I have to fix the bar "Notification" because are also trasparent.
Also I have to investigate why It have some crash when I use metamorth for apply theme.
edit.
perfect all I want.
I have only investigate for crash when using metamorph.
Thx britoso from that other thread and xuedoxus for the app
finally got it working on my theme(frf91)
pretty cool theme!
i whant to edit or remove the motorola lockscreen...
But i can't, if i try to edit it, it doesn't work any more or doesn't work as before...
If not, remove this lockscreen and use the original android lockscreen.
i'm making a rom and i'm stucked with this.... and the background color of some items...
In the froyo ROMs:
Decompile the framework-res.apk
Replace keyguard_screen_tab_unlock.xml
Replace the zz_moto_jog_tab pngs
If you also edit the integers.xml you can fix the problem where the sound slider is not right justified.
<integer name="config_lock_screen_slider_padding_left">58</integer>
<integer name="config_lock_screen_slider_padding_right">0</integer>
<integer name="config_lock_screen_slider_padding_top">58</integer>
<integer name="config_lock_screen_slider_padding_bottom">55</integer>
Bingo AOSP lock screen

Thanks!! but one more question for you my friend
I use 7zip to extract files from framework-res.apk but XML files, seems strange =S
rare simbols, and i can't understand anything
You have to decompile it. I use apk manager.
If you cant see the content of an xml, you can use axmlprinter2 to SEE this, but with that tool you cant change the xml, need to be done with hex editor.
There is a kitchen to do this? I think it can be done with apk manager.

Just that
And how to do the same in 2.1 ROMs ? I'd love to get back original lockscreen - motorolas suck with green wallpaper ,)

Slightly different in 2.1:
You have to change the zz_moto_keyguard_screen_tab_unlock.xml in the framework-res.apk
And set the clockopia font in the digitalclock within the framework.jar
okay i will try it, so to decompile and compile the apk i need to use apk manager and to see what is inside the XML, axmlprinter2?
EDIT:
Where are the XML styles to edit the background opacity/color and style??
THanks!
Nice! Almost to easy!
Q: When im alredy at it- cant i change the color and shape on the original sliders just by using other .png's? (i would like to have just plain gray circles and no "sliders".. and i'd like to change the clock to Digital clock widget by Maze- Im running with WidgetLocker now but.. you know how it is- ending a cal and your right back on the stock one- and somtimes it flaches by when locking/unlocking. And damn, I whant perfection!
Running Froyo btw.
You have done a great work on bringing native lockscreen to Defy. Thanks a lot! There is one more thing I would also love to have. It is Froyo call answer/hangup bars.. I'm curious do you have any thoughts on customizing blurphone.apk? Looking forward for the updates.
So I came across this early on in my research of theme porting, but was still learning and didn't fully understand the process. However, now that I have some experience under my belt I decided to take a look at it and see how it worked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591329
Basically by use of this app we can apply created .zip packages that contain themed image's for any .apk located in /system/. In short, we can theme individual pieces of our phone to our taste, by applying a specific .zip.
There is a very specific process to doing this, because there are certain requirements to inserting .png files into your phone. The files you have flashed may have changed XML values that point to specific images, if that XML points to 20 images then the .zip you create must contain different versions of those specific 20 images - in order for this to work properly. In other words, the images already have to be called in the code for this to work, so we have to be careful how we build these .zip's so they work right.
Basically what we need to do is just start creating addon packs for our existing theme's, that way we know it will work as long as that theme is installed (it has the XML to support the .png file addon packs)
That means, you get your little tweaks without us having to create entire new theme's or having to bother at all with the long process of making these edits, we just have to find the .png's you want changed and include them in the package.
Watch this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9y3ooUZZrg
I've tested this once on just my battery (because the accurate battery xml is universal, it references 100~ images) I used the battery from my recent port A Splash of Color, i pulled the .png files of just the battery icon and transplanted them to the .zip i created (watch the video, it shows you how to do it) Pushed the .zip to the AndroidThemes directory on my phone (that the Metamorph app created) then loaded up the app. In the app, my test.zip showed up and everything worked great - at the end the phone vibrated as if it was force closing but it was just rebooting, when it was done the battery icon was changed, with no need to wipe dalvik or use recovery at all.
Go ahead and try for your self, here is my testing.zip (you must have at least pick and pack and a theme with the accurate battery mod installed for this to work);
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QFLQDEGE
I have my EA11 dark froyo port that i'm working on, and you'll see i've changed the battery to the EA11 Splash of Color battery

Since I like how MotoBlur looks, and TW4.5 is really simple to theme, I made this.

Just put the attached zip on your sdcard, go to the launcher preferences > theme > install theme (Blurry.zip), then choose theme (Blurry.zip), then pick the "restart and save" option from the main menu.
Note: restarting and saving the launcher has caused hotboots for me, I don't know why but it does.
To get the faded white dock background, open up your favorite image editing program and draw a transparent to opaque white gradient towards the bottom of your prefered background, then use Wallpaper Set and Save (from the market) to install it. I have no idea how to permanently set a background for the dock, help is appreciated. Here's the one I'm using in the screenshot:

This was just to hold me over until someone makes a full theme, I'm not a themer and this was all I could conjure up
So I've been doing some research, and I've started porting some theme-related stuff from the Bionic to the Charge. I'll keep you guys updated
hi.
to add a permanent dock picture, just made a dock.png picture and put it in the .zip file.
you also can do "docked" icons by adding dock_ before the names of icons you want to be docked.
For more infos about TW4.5 : : http://www.i900playeraddict.com/android/TW45/
Thanks for your job !
Just an update for how the theme is going; I've ported most of the images from framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk from the Bionic. I've also ported the theme from Motoblur to TW3.
What's nearly done:
framework-res.apk (I'll consider this done once I manage to get the status bar themed)
SystemUI.apk
TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
Mms.apk (*note* I decided to use the AOSP app instead of the TW once, personal preference)
TwWallpaperChooser.apk (added Bionic wallpapers)
What's to come:
Phone.apk
Contacts.apk
Email.apk
Browser.apk
More as time progresses...
Here are some screenshots as a teaser
