Want to try WM5.0 out for your self? I originally posted this on ipaqhq.com but I figured this forum is more of a target for such information .
1) Get the emulator from here (login with your MS passport, then enter MSDEVICE when it asks you for a GuestID)
2) Install the emulator.
3) Delete "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Device Emulator Preview\PPC_2003_SE\PPC_2003_SE_WWE_ARMv4.bin"
4) Go here (or here without genuine advantage check) to download the WM5.0 SDK (it's 174MB so be patient!).
5) Go here to download ZipZag.
6) Install ZipZag.
7) Go here to download MSI extension support for ZipZag.
8) Extract the above file to "C:\Program Files\ZipZag"
9) Run ZipZag and open "Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK.msi" in it.
10) Sort the files by Size (largest to top)
11) Extract the biggest file (sdkfiles.cab)
12) Using winrar open this file.
13) Sort the files by size (again, largest to top)
14) Extract "_208PPC_USA_bin" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Device Emulator Preview\PPC_2003_SE\PPC_2003_SE_WWE_ARMv4.bin" (the file you deleted earlier!)
15) Go to "Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Device Emulator Preview -> Emulate Pocket PC-WM 2003 SE(Cold Boot)" - Note that the smartphone and square versions WONT WORK!
16) WAIT (about 30 seconds) for it to boot. When faced with the new welcome screen, click on it then wait another 30 or so seconds.
17) Enjoy your sneak-peek of WM5.0!
Attached is a proof shot of it working which also illustrates the newest feature - persistant storage! Thats the new "Memory" control panel application!
Cool Thanks
I have my sneak-peek on my QTek 2020
10x !! i'm testing now !
edit - it's work  !! but limited by the low memory.... how to increase this ?
Emulator is great
@all,
I am using the Mobile Device Emulator at work to test applications before installing on real device. It is great. If you have the latest Visual Studio or other development tool then you have the emulator. It is included. The Mobile SDK you have to download.
Greetings,
Bitfrotter
Can u pls send me an e-mail with the files cuz i cant extract and to anything pls mail me at [email protected]
Do you really want a WM5 emulator now, in 2007, when WM6 is already out!
This is a very old thread (notice the 2005 date stamps) and I'm not sure if you thought this thread referred to something else.
your phone must be jailbreak
1. use ip2base64.exe in attachment to convert ip address to base64 value.
2. Note the base64 result.
3. replace "ipaddr" value in customhosts9.xml(in attachmet) used mention base64 value.
4. modify "hostname.domain" in "hklm\comm\tcpip\hosts\test.com" also in customhosts9.xml.
5. samsung please use "Isolated Storage Explorer GUI.exe" and "DiagProvXMLv0.91_IS.xap" to import provxml, then use Wp7RootTool copy to provxml folder and use *#9908# to apply and execute the provxml.
6. htc please use htc-provxml-deploy.
7. u can use RegistryEditor.xap to check the ipaddr value, only for samsung. u need convert hex to dec.
8. if u want to delete the key or value u must use Wp7RootTool.
Hey people...
Just wanted to post a solution to a problem apparently a lot of users are experiencing...
When you first attach your phone to the pc by USB, the drivers have to be installed. (Here is a good ressource, where you can always dowload the latest drivers extracted from the Samsung Kies Package: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655286)
Now it could happen, that all of the drivers install successfully, but one of them, the "Samsung Mobile MTP Device", which cannot be installed, since there's always a CODE 10 (This device cannot start).
As I searched for quite a while for a working solution with no luck (there are different solutions, but none of them worked for me, as in my case it wasn't a faulty-driver problem...), i finally remembered a solution to a similiar case with a DVD-RW Drive. I tried the same process with my actual driver problem, and it worked right away... :good:
HERE's THE SOLUTION:
Go to the Registry Editor (Start --> Run --> "regedit" --> [ENTER])
Search the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
If you click one of the few subkeys in class (e.g. {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}) you'll find the string value (Standard) on the right side with a value (e.g. DVD/CD-ROM-Drives)
You have to find the value "Portable Devices" on the string value (Standard) (In my case {EEC5AD98-8080-425f-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}, but I don't know if they are called always the same.
Once found, you see a string value called UpperFilters --> DELETE IT!
Finished! Now your Samsung Mobile MTP Device should be recognized and even installed correctly right away. (The name of the device changed to GT-I9100 (Devicemanager) in my case...)
Here an explanation about UpperFilters and LowerFilters if you want to know more: http://djlizard.net/2007/04/30/230/
Maybe this short tutorial can save you some time... =)
Best regards to all of you!
Not solved
No such registry subkey as "Portable Devices"
What OS U use?
Thank you for this, was trying to get a Samsung Galaxy Note to connect.
After having to manually point it to the drivers folder, they installed but would not start.
The registry keys seemed a little different to how you described, I am on Windows 7 64-bit, but found:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{EEC5AD98-8080-425F-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}\
Deleted the value "UpperFilters", plugged the USB back in, and it worked!
Now can happily sync using the Samsung Kies software.
( Note to others, backup first, right click the key tree you are editing, choose export. Run the .reg to restore any screw ups. )
I gave up trying to use Kies. I am using windows 7 64. I found the correct folder but there is no value "Upper filter" showing. I also have a Philips Go Gear Muse player and It uses the Songbird software. Songbird also works with the samsung galaxy 4.2 player in mass storage mode.
GREAT
Thanks worked great!!!!
Kinda late though. haha
I have no UpperFilters Key
You legend!!!!
thank you so so much i signed up to this forum just to say thank you, i had tried everything and was reading solutions that i just knew before even trying that they wouldnt work.
anyway i read this seemed exactly what i needed and yes it did work
so thank you very much its been a long week of trying to find fixes for this!!!!!

Samsung MTP Driver fix
Thanks for your fix for this problem- it was driving me crazy!
I did find that the only UpperFilters key that needed to be removed was for the USBSTOR entries.
Also, I think that anyone trying this- Make a Reg backup first....
Thanks again.
Use *#7284# to enter PhoneUtil mode, Press (Qualcomm USB Settings), and change it to 'MTP + ADB' mode.
Then MTP should work fine.

For future reference, restoring to an older cwm backup fixed this issue for me (clean flashing to stock or to other roms DID NOT WORK). However I still do get the message from time to time...

I've had the same problem trying to connect my S3 on Windows 7 64-bit, either with Kies installed or just as a media storage device. None of the above solutions worked for me, but then I read somewhere else on the net to use the original Samsung USB cable and that solved it - I can connect as a media storage device again!
I was using a USB cable from a 3rd party charger, not an official one. There must be something slightly different in the wiring of the proper Samsung USB cables.
Hope this helps someone.

NOTE : I will not be held responsible if you change your wifi mac address for illegal purposes.
A backup of your NVRAM is recommended.
Method 1(via Engineering mode)
This method does NOT require ROOT access.
1.Download MTK Engineering Mode shortcut app from here :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themonsterit.EngineerStarter

(Incase you are not able to access Engineering mode, skip to alternate method below)
3.Swipe To Connectivity Tab.
4.Click Wifi
5.Click NVRAM
6.In Byte String Access put values as
addr(h,byte) : 4
length(byte) : 6
7.Click Read. The 12 Digits shown in value(h) field is your current wifi mac address.Better make a note of it.
8.Erase the value(h) field and now put your own 12 digit mac address,
IMPORTANT:
RULES FOR WIFI MAC ADDRESS
1.Should be 12 Digits long only
2.Should have hexadecimal characters only (0-F)

Alternate Method
THIS METHOD REQUIRES ROOT ACCESS
1.Get any good File Browser with Root access (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree)
2.Get this Hex Editor : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tuba.tools
3.Turnoff your wifi. With the File Browser, browse to /data/nvram/APCFG/APRDEB/

5.Also note the permissions on the WIFI file (for me it was rw-rw----)
6.Rename this file to WIFI.bak
7.Open the copied WIFI file on sdcard with Hex Editor.
8.Notice your Wifi mac Address from address 04 to 09.Change the values of addresses 04,05,06,07,08,09 each with corresponding 2 digits of your new mac address

Lenovo S920, MT6589 device, data folder is empty. Nevertheless there's a lot of stuff in the folder /dev, but no /APCFG/APRDEB/ route at all either.
The first "non-root" method didn't worked for me either. It changes the MAC but when I am trying to connect to the router with this "new" MAC, which by the way it worked in my Galaxy Note with Cyanogenmod 10.2 installed, the phone can't get internet, although it connects to the router.

I know of this app

it changed mac adress for Leva ported Rom perfectly. And it persist through restart of phone.
It will however have "error not compatible device" if device prop is changed to something like "samsung galaxy" etc.

Worked for me too!!!! Every time i reboot, the last 3 par of HEX char randomly change.
After set the original mac address with Chamelemac, and a reboot, MAC ADDRESS remains!!!!

Ok this works but evidently my info are stored somewhere else. at 4 and 6 I have only zeroes. Programming those worked (it stick after reboot) but didn't fix the issue. Still have the 1st 6 hex the same and the other 6 randomly changed everytime I disable the wifi
Question is, do you have any idea where (at what addres) this string could be stored?
I have an ALPS w806 aka K18
thank you
How could you restore your device.prop or build.prop to its default? I'm encountering an Chamelemac error: "error not compatible device" on my Huawei Y220-U10. I wish you could enlighten me a bit because just last few months I've been able to change my mac address with the use of Chamelemac but now I can't. And i don't know why, maybe application update but it seems like chamelemac is just stuck with version 1.0 . Maybe you know something that could help me. By the way I'd rather use chamelemac other than those posted on the thread because it's easy to use just one click and i could change my mac address instantly. Hope for your response. Thanks in advance!

Last resort
If you are unable to change your MAC with those methods, I found a working solution that should work for everyone. Try this: http://bbs.infinixmobility.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&action=printable&tid=13678 It worked for me when anything I tried didn't work.
Hi,
I'm sorry, but the files below are not found:/data/nvram/APCFG/APRDEB/
any other solution?
Thanks
WARNING I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE
MESSING WITH NV ITEMS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR HANDSET
USING THIS TOOL/INFO TO BREAK THE LAW IS NOT CONDONED
USING THIS TO VIOLATE YOUR CARRIERS TERMS IS NOT CONDONED
I WILL NOT HELP WITH WRITING ANYTHING TO YOUR DEVICE OTHER THEN A PRL
I DO NOT PROVIDE ANY LINKS TO THE PRL OR TOOLS USED. USE GOOGLE SEARCH BOLD ITEMS + XDA BELOW!
1. LG Drivers installed, Diag drivers specifically
2. MSL for your phone
3. QPST installed ( 2.7 or newer preferred )
4. SPRINT/VZW PRL file of your choice ( Sprint is on 54xxx) Universal sprint VZW is 00001 00002 etc, be careful as those can piss off your carrier!
Step 1 - Install your LG drivers and acquire your MSL from sprint.
Step 2 - Google and install QPST.
Step 3 - Find what PRL you want to use and put it in a folder on your computer.
Step 4 - Turn off USB debugging on your phone...go to settings > applications > development > uncheck USB debugging
Step 5 - Open the dialer on your phone and enter ##3424# Turn Diag ON
Step 6 - Connect your phone to the computer and select Charging only if prompted.
Step 7 - Open QPST Configuration wherever you installed it.
Step 8 - Click on "Add new port"
Step 9 - UN-Check "Select Serial and USB/Diagnostic Ports Only"
Step 10 - Select your phone on the list and hit OK.
Step 11 - Select your phone on the list.
Step 12 - Click on the "Start Clients" tab at the top and select "Service Programming"
Step 13 - Select your phone on the list and hit OK
Step 14 - Click on "Read from Phone' in the bottom left
Step 15 - Enter your MSL when prompted and hit OK
Step 16 - Click on the "Roam" tab then click "Browse" and navigate to your PRL file. After selecting your PRL click "Write to Phone".
Step 17 - Your phone will reboot at this point and you will see a couple popups on your computer that you can just hit OK to close. Let your phone reboot and don't close QPST until it is finished writing to your phone.
Step 18 - The PRL should be written to your phone now. You can verify it by going to settings > General > About Phone > Status
Once back on sprint prl, you should be able to UPDATE prl and get it to update to the one for your act/area!
Pleas feel free to post results or if you had to do something different!
This is also another option, but i haven't found a way to get it to locate a prl and write it.
maybe some oter people can figure out how to get this to work from the handset?
Ive tried running in production mode, in dev mode, made changes from user to debug and dev in the build.prop
but its still a blank screen when you try it.
using quick setting app you can search ( SPRO ) and click the 1st entry. This isn't for new users so stay outta this stuff lol!
the full entry is com.lge.lgdmsclient.ui.test.SPROmadmHiddenMenuForSprint
in a nutshell it would be exploiting a prl write test to get it to actually write a dif. prl
Verified that Cmda Workshop Trail will write the prl also, it wasn't mentioned in op due to it is NOT FREE, and will require a purchase after 30 days.
You sir are a boss
verizon users are stuck as usual
