In order to install a theme (a .cab theme) do i need to do anything else besides installing it on the phone and clicking it? any special firmware or something?

no usually not.
if it's a theme, the best bet is to usually restart the phone and the theme should appear when u go select your theme.

i am also new to here

[Q] Installing themes - ZTE Blade Android 2.3.5

Hi, Iam new so maybe this is very stupid question but I spent few hours trying and could not figure this out myself.
So, I have ZTE Blade with rooted Android 2.3.5 I want to install there custom theme, but in every install guide is said "go to settings -> themes" or "go to your theme chooser app" and so on... I don't have the options of choosing themes in settings and every app i tried from android market for theme choosing did not work for me so..
Could you please tell me how to install custom theme on my phone? I appreciate every answer. Thanks a lot.
I somehow managed to install a theme (find theme in .zip and update zip with clockwork recovery mode) the theme changed but i still cannot choose between those two and what the theme did not change (and i want it to) is those icons in bottom of the display - now i have now i have phone, menu and browser.... iknow i can have also sms there and something else i cannot remember.... any ideas?
*BUMP*
Can anyone please give me some advice?

[How-To][G935F] Injustice theme at the new update PER (It is UP)

Hello to everyone
I just downloaded the XFA PER for my G935F and I used the "stock" csc which it was over 150mb. I said ok will flash it just to see what it is inside. The installation and booting took a while and when I finished with the setup wizard I saw the batman theme installation. I was shocked. The theme is beatiful and it has many great features. (New AOD style added)
Photos are given.
Take a look and let me know what do you think.
When I find new features I will let you know
I was asked to upload a guide on how you can install the PER firmware with the Injustice theme. You should backup everything since this is going to wipe all of your data. If this is your first time flashing with Odin or you are a newbie, please stay away....... This may be risky for you......
Here is the guide
1. Backup everything since this is going to delete all of your files
2. Download this rom
3. Download Odin 3.11.1
4. Open odin and select the AP to the AP and CP to the CP etc......
4b. Go to the pit section and select the given PIT, because the CSC.tar is very big
4c. Make sure that you have the re-partition button checked
5. Make sure that your device is charged more than 40%
6. Reboot to download mode
7. Flash it
8. When it comes up, force the phone to boot to the recovery and wipe data (this step is essential if you want the special CSC to be applied
9. Reboot
10. Enjoy
Don't forget to press the Thanks button
wow!so cool .Can you share the batman theme.
Anyone able to extract this theme yet?
in 10 min I will upload it.
I unpacked the theme from the sec_csc.zip
I don't think so that it will be able to be installed as a normal app but you may need root to put it to the /system/app/ folder
Here the link
So you can install the theme regularly but it says trial and it ends after a few minutes

I have installed the apk and it works fine if you want to keep the theme active for more then five minutes use package disabler from the playstore to disable the theme store. Here's a link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
This will allow you to keep the theme active.

It works perfectly fine for me. Did you make sure you disabled both theme store applications. Here is an xml file download this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9e0-e27EVVKcml6X0hWSzI5cFE/view?usp=drivesdk
Then activate the theme again. Once you have activated the theme go into package disabler and import the xml the one you just downloaded. The theme should now be activated and will stay on until you reactivate theme store.

Hi you could try visiting this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/themes/marvel-themes-s7-t3340869
Basically you need to disable both Theme store and Theme Center.
Theme store can be disabled easily. As for theme center, you have to select manual disabler in package disabler pro and type com.samsung.android.themecenter to disable it. I have tried and it worked on my non rooted s7 edge.
people first of all its working great you just have to know how to cancell the trial version.
sec ill explain you but if you likes theme you have the bigest theme stuff that ok with our phone here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/themes-apps/theme-park-super-hero-t3386909 best place .
FOR ROOTED DEVICE
•Download and install a simply apk. Installation may take a 3-4 minutes as the're many sub-apk. Wait until you see in homescreen message "Installation complete"
•Move the file json from data/overlays/jsonfiles/triljson into userjson. It's always good to test theme while it is on trial version to see any problem with installation
•For MM delete preferences folder in data/overlays(after reboot your device (don'the worry the folder preferences it will be created after reboot)
•Apply theme
FOR NO ROOT DEVICE
•Download and install the theme a simply apk .installation may take 4/5 minutes . Once you see install complete in homescreen your good to go .
•First option app best you use on play store •EZRA PACKAGE DISABLER PRO $1.95
•After you go in (package disabled pro)for the custom themes on here locate it in Theme Center from your phone hit trial, then with PDP look for Theme store and them disable both that's it now it will stick, picture down.
enjoy
I'm uploading the whole rom so everyone can install it

I MANAGED to fix it but your steps didn't really work, you also have to stop both apps because for some unholly reason the timer always came back until I accidentally greenified both apps now the timer is gone (I accidentally pressed the greenify shortcut on my home screen)

How to make multiple non-store themes stick after reboot.

Dear friends, for those who are on Nougat we all know how frustrating it can be to have to reapply a custom theme everytime after reboot. If you only want one theme installed and ready for use, instruction set (A) - which is similar to what you can find on most theme threads - is good enough. For those want to have multiple themes installed to be switched at will and stick after reboot, Set (B) is for you.
Instructions for rooted devices only.
(A) To install a single custom theme:
1. Download and install theme1.apk
2. Download and install Solid Explorer or any file manager with root access.
3. Navigate to Root/data/overlays.
4.Open preferences folder and delete all files.
5.Open trialjson folder, cut and paste theme1.json in userjson folder.
6. Reboot device.
7.Apply theme1 in Samsung Themes.
(B) To add multiple custom themes (rinse and repeat):
8. Repeat steps 1-6
9. Open Samsung Themes.
10. Reapply theme1 (currently in use)
11. Apply new theme2
12. Reboot and confirm (optional)
In pictures,
Screenshot A - reboot after theme2 installed.
Screenshot B - theme1 reapplied.
Screenshot C - reboot after theme3 installed.
Screenshot D - theme2 reapplied.
You would have noticed by now whenever you reboot the device right after installing a new theme (from theme2 onwards), Samsung default theme is auto-selected (bug issue?).
All said and done, please try and let me know if it works for you
Tested on Helios 7.5.1 this time...The collection grows...
Just for clarification, let's say I will be installing 3 themes from @vukandric, do I have to install them 1 by 1 then do the process after each installation, or I can install them all together, then do the process? And do I have to be in the default theme to apply the non store theme?

No dice at mine, mate. Installed AGold2 and won't stick. Don't know what might be the problem. Running SuperMan-Rom v2.1
@MitoTakatori, what I did was to install each theme one by one. After that, I do not have to do anything further. I just need to apply whatever theme I want w/o any worries.
Did you reapply existing theme before applying new theme? It's a 2-step after reboot.

You mean reapply the theme I was on before I installed another? If that's it, yes I did reapply. So after installing theme1.apk, doing the steps you mention, then install theme2.apk, steps again?
---------- Post added at 11:56 ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 ----------
As per checking, it seems that the default theme is being loaded after every reboot by an unknown script/command. As in userjson folder, it is the one with the latest date. It maybe due to the ROM I am using though. Gonna check it with @Tkkg1994

For theme2.apk, do exactly the same as you did for theme1.apk, which is to install, delete/move files and reboot. After reboot, reapply theme1 BEFORE applying theme2. Likewise for theme3, reapply theme 2 before applying theme3.

Default theme being loaded after every reboot happens to me on Helios rom too. Reapply current theme first, then apply new theme straight away. It appears to be a Nougat bug or changes to Theme editor, not a rom-specific one.
Edit: Gonna try the same on MM. This may not only be affecting Nougat.

I see. This makes it clearer. So in DQB7, the bug or whatever it is, is still there. Thanks for the guide mate. Gonna try again from start, I will be deleting all 3rd party themes first. :good:

It's still there, and imo whatever it is, it points to the theme editor. Whether intentional or not, anybody's guess. The best way to clear everything is to delete entire root/data/overlays folder, then check and delete all remaining theme folders inside root/data/apps. With TiBU, I simply uninstalled all theme apks and related files.

Samsung sucked the hump again with the themes. Anyways if some good soul manage to get the latest theme editor exe and shared it here, we will be having no problems with it.
I just uninstalled using TiBu. Thanks for the help mate! :good:

I don't know how to solve it now but, followed every step, uninstalled/reinstalled 3rd party themes, repeat everything; still no theme sticking after boot. It's really ticking me off now. I don't know what causes it! All theme from store applies well, sticks after boot, but NOT any 3rd party ones. I already reported something on SuperMan-Rom thread just to make an appeal to my good friend Luca. Any news on any other ROM having this severe issue?

I have not tested on Superman (perhaps I will). Only just did the same for my other phone - Note 5 (Nemesis Nougat S7E port v2.5.1) and it works.

I think this will be sorted on next SuperMan Rom release, as I already reported it. Luca is one hell of a great dev. So now sticking on Samsung store themes. Bummer.
You saved my days..thanks alot...the secret is that you have to apply the new theme and then reapply it once again...then reboot ....works great

No, you dun have to download anything. Just follow the steps (for multiple themes) in OP.
its not a bug, you delete all the files inside "preferences" folder and reboot that's why your system thinks you're on the default theme, just re-apply your theme even though you think you're already using it.
Simple instruction for multiple custom themes (theory) :
-download and install all your custom themes (don't apply yet and wait for the toast notification "installation complete" on each theme)
-just apply one of any themes you install.
-before your 5min trial expires move fast and delete all files inside preferences folder and transfer (CUT & paste) ALL the .json files inside trialjson folder to userjson folder and reboot.
-re/apply any of the themes you install.

Themes app only showing local themes

I have the US version of mate 9. It's running on stock but I did unlock the bootloader and rooted it. I recall that even before unlocking the bootloader, the themes were only local. How do I fix that? I am on T-Mobile service. Thanks
I found the same thing. I downloaded this one for themes and once downloaded they appear in the Stock Themes App.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.deishelon.lab.thememanager
After installing the app, I was able to install new themes but I still did not get anything but local themes. The new themes that I downloaded showed up in the local themed section so I was able to install them. I still don't see that 'me' icon on the top. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll use it as a workaround for now.

substratum

Does anyone know how to apply themes properly? No theme seems to be really functioning correctly, overlays don't install correctly.
Yeah.. it's bit complicated.
1. Select theme to install
2. Press build and update
3. Once done, it will ask for reboot. Reboot the phone.
4. Once booted, open substratum again
5. Go to manager tab. Select all overlays.
6. Select change overlay state option from bottom right circle icon.
This will apply theme for you.
Hope this helps.
Substratum themes still do not work properly because of some poor written Oneplus OS.
On my nexus6 with AOSP substratum theme works better and apply theme properly and without need to reboot.
but still not perfect, I assume substratum and its themes are written pretty poor as well.
