hey guys, i've recently rooted my x10a with this amazing discovery. i'm wondering if anyone has found a way to tether wirelessly with the X10, since Wifi Tether for Android doesnt work due to the need of a netfilter/iptables. Has anyone found a workaround, or an alternative?
do a search under the apps and themes section, there's one call Barnacle Tether, but you need to configure it.
yep use barnacle tether and set you lan interface to "athwlan0" .
But there is a thread in General about this

Will "wifi tether" from the market not work? That is what use on my rooted magic. Works out of the install without configuration.

Hi all,
Since the announcement of WM7 I've been looking more and more into Android handsets as they are going the way to be 'our' toys, right?
One application I use a lot under WM is WMWiFiRouter, which allows me to route my 3g connection to WiFi and essentially use my phone as a router.
Does such a wireless method exist for Android? This software enables me to use 3g on my netbook without using a dongle, therefore having to switch my phone off and miss calls.
Thanks
(hope this is in the right section!)
Android does this WAY better then any of the other OS's. Check out:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Supports encryption, vibration on connect and a tonne of other cool stuff. Then for more speed there's the USB tether, which is identical other then using USB.

Many thanks for the info - Wifi routing is one of the best uses for my mobile on the go and knowing Android can do this, and well, has put it squarely in the cross-hairs when it comes to my next mobile purchase.
You don't have to turn your phone off to use wired tether.
Will this allow USB to Wifi (to use my phone as a USB Wifi adapter)? WMWifiRouter does this.

I should imagine you can. Should be able to connect to wifi on phone then enable USB tether.
I cannot test as I am without broadband in my flat
Can someone confirm please.

I can confirm that this works.
I tried it last night. Works fine.
Only works on Vista, 7, or Linux apparently.
Note. The portable hotspot is an easy alternative to connecting to a computer by ad-hoc, which you cannot do by default. Just tell the computer to connect to your Android ap automatically.

I also am looking for a wifi tether app I can use w/o rooting the evo, maybe something that I can pay a one time fee or something.
Is there no TRUE wireless router application yet? I miss my Pre showing up as a REAL router, not this ad-hoc crap. My laptop would auto-connect, and everything worked a lot more smoothly on my Pre.

You either have to root or pay Sprint $30 a month.
I really wish I can do this Wifi stuff w/o being root.
I miss WMWifirouter.
I use PDAnet and I hate the USB connection.
If rooted and you've installed the appropriate app... Will the Captivate be able to function as a WiFi hotspot?

Is this a real question? Once it's rooted you can do practically anything you want.

Not so fast. The Aria community still can't get any wifi hotspot apps working. We believe AT&T has done some fooling around with the kernel to prevent these apps from working. We do have tethering working over USB though.
I keep attempting to pair the two with no success. Any ideas? I'm running the VEGan 5.1.1 supplement.
My guess would be you're not gonna get any love from the iPhone unless you jailbreak it.
Agreed. I just jailbreaked (jailbroke?) my iPhone and bought an app called Myfi to tether with bluetooth or wifi. Works great, and the process for installing was easy. They just posted instructions on Lifehacker the other day.
My iPhone is jailbroken, but I can not connect it to the G Tablet via bluetooth to copy pictures and video from the iPhone to the tablet.
Jailbreaking in and of itself won't do it. I purchased the Myfi app from Cydia, and that did it.
I have the same problem. I think the idea is to use bluetooth and not have to pay $20 to tether. The Archos 10-1 has the ability to tether with bluetooth out the box. I would like to have a solution like that.

Are you trying to share Internet or share photos via Bluetooth? If you are trying to share Internet and are jailbroken use mywi4.0 I tether my gtablet to it everyday. If you are trying to Bluetooth photos Try ibluenova.

I might be wrong but ibluenova works with only 3.1.3 and below.
Also pdanet works good for wifi and was cheaper than mywi.

I want to share my iPhone 3G connection with my GTablet. I'm currently able to share it via MyWii's wireless adhoc network, but I haven't been able to do this through Bluetooth. Do I need an application to do this? All I've seen now, are apps which let you tether you're Android's 3G connection, into other devices, but not the other way around.

like I had said I use pdanet. but have used Mywi also. what would the bluetooth have over the other 2?

Bluetooth is supposed to be more energy efficient, both for the iPhone and the GTablet.
Also, @work Im limited to connect one device into the wireless network, using my account. I usually login with my phone, and tether the connection to my other devices, so i can only tether through USB or bluetooth.
Hi,
Just wondering if I am going to be able to tether my Xperia x10 to the tablet so I can get 3g? Or is this not possible?

Yeah, you could connect by bluetooth and transmit the internet over, you'll probably need a special app as the x10 is still on eclair?
Do you have CM7 on your phone? You can setup a (secure) wireless hotspot on your phone and tether the Transformer that way can't you, to share the phones internet? Or use PDAnet from the market if memory serves?
The phone is on standard 2.1 with no CM7 so would like an app that could do this if possible?

When I was having a quick look at that app it says it needs Root access?
Don't you need 2.2 to tether 3g?
I think barnacle wifi should work just fine on 2.1.
Still, I would recommend to try one of the great custom builds of 2.2 / 2.3.3 or CM7 on the X10 (Look for TripNMIUI, FreeX10 CM7 and Wolfbreak's ROM if you need an every-day stable ROM with custom performance kernels)
And if you can wait for thethering until around june/july, there'll be official gingerbread on the X10 where tethering is native anyway

Yes, you'll definitely need root, but why don't root your phone? You can always reflash unrooted ROMs and there'll be no hint that you rooted and warranty won't be lost.
I used to use PDAnet off the market for a tethered connection. I didn't have root at the time either. You install an app on your laptop and one on your phone and can use bluetooth or usb cable. Sure I did this when my N1 was on 2.2 though, so not sure about 2.1.
I successfully rooted my device (thanks kennethpenn!) this morning. I installed "Wireless Tether for Root Users" but it doesnt seem to work. Has anyone gotten it to work or have a recommendation for a different kind of wifi tethering solution? EasyTether works with a usb cable, but I'd like wifi (or possibly bluetooth).

After downloading Wi-Fi tether beta 14 apk
set device as ICS generic and enable routing fix
works perfect on my rooted, att htc one x.

What kind of device are you connecting from? The auto profile did not work for me, and the Generic ICS profile causes my Win7 laptop to blue screen!!
In the WiFi Tether app faq on their Google code page, one of the known issues is that the app doesn't always work with Intel wireless adapters.
Naturally, my laptop has an Intel wireless adapter. That doesn't explain why my other devices don't work, though.
The app starts, and my laptop (win 7), my SGS2 (cm9), and my iPod (v5.1.1) all see the ssid, but none can successfully connect to it. I've tried all the permutations of the settings which I can think might help, and have gotten nowhere with it.
Basically, I'm just stumped.
Bleh.

I know at&t is pretty strict on tethering. Is this detectable by them? Or have any of you been contacted by at&t about tethering without a tether plan? I want to root and tether too, but scared. lol

I think its a matter more of usage more than anything else. I dont know too much about it, but I think that there are different ways to enable the tethering and some hide it better than others. So long as you are not like... using absurd amounts of data on an unlimited plan or the like, I think it can be hard for them to really detect it.

No, its says wifi tether.
