2 questions about HTC Universal - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
1- I want to transfer all my text messages to my PC as bulk, but I can't. There is absolutely no option to send them even by bluetooth !!! so I connected my HTC to my PC via USB port and installed drivers but still nothing happens.
2- I inserted a SD memory card into the slot but I can't locate the card with my HTC's windows mobile. It is like it cannot read the card or doesn't recognize it. I want to save my text messages on the card and then transfer to PC.

Please assist with micro sd card with bad blocks

Hey everyone,
I have a 1gb micro sd card. It apparently has bad blocks and cannot be recognized by my 8525 (WM6.1), vista pc or xp sp2 pc. I have the programs to recover the info on it, but none of these programs are effective because the card doesn't show up as a drive.
I am attempting to access the card directly from the phone. With the pc's I have an usb adapter that I know works because I use it for my 8gb micro sd card to swap information.
Can some one give me an answer on how to either fix the bad blocks or make the card recognizable by the ppc or pc's? The recovery programs I have say they will get info off a formated card, but I can't format what the phone or pc's doesn't recognize.
Thanks.
which apps did you try?
if if i'm not mistaken i managed to recover a card using Active Recovery 7
The easiest way for me was, plug your card back to where it gave you a bad blocks, and it should be readable, then backup your datas there,.
this is what i did to my 2GB miniSD for Olympus e520 SLR Camera (the camera lost now),.
I plug it in to my friend laptop, then it cant be readable by any device, then i plug it again, and its readable, then i back it up, then i leave the miniSD,.
Hey G, Thanks for the reply. The card went bad in a digital camera. So I should place the microsd card in the camera, use the usb cord to connect to the pc, remove the usb cord once the card doesn't read, then reconnect the usb cord?

Storage Card Recovery – PPC software?

My phone is telling me that my storage card is full (it’s not) and I’ve lost my ‘program files’ folder, all of my music and the folder with the naked pictures of my ex-girlfriends in………. Damn
I’ve read lots of threads about storage card recovery, but I haven’t found an application that can run from the actual phone itself (I have a Kaiser).
I can’t find my card reader, so can’t connect it direct to my PC!
Anyone got any suggestions?? Freeware is always a bonus
Thanks in advance
never heard about a ppc undelete tool but card readers are dirt cheap
may even work if you put the pda in disk mode and connect it over usb to the pc

PDA in disk mode is new to me? Could you explain how please?? Or alternatively perhaps a program that can work via activesync??
Had a similar issue reecently, all the folders on my card were given random names made up of weird characters. Even connecting to the PC didn't help, still silly names.
I thought, OK, nothing to lose and i soft reset my trinity, hey presto everything came back. Don't ask what had happened i don't know.

I have extra folders with letters and characters (perhaps renamed) but alas, soft reset does nothing......
well, usb to pc mode can be done using Softick Cardexport or WM5torage, but you HAVE to copy the installation files to your DEVICE or it will physically overwrite storage card data. take out your storage card, connect your device and move the installation file to your device, install the program and insert the card, then connect in Removable Storage mode and use Active Recovery 7 to recover your storage card's files.

HELP Us Tmobile Hd2/Mac Laptop

So Can Someone Walk Me Thru The Steps To Install
Co0kie's Home Tab v1.7.1
To My Phone...I Connect The Phone And Am Lost From There So Please Go Into Detail =(
I do not think you can connect a windows phone to a Mac computer. They are not compatible.
What you can do instead is -
1.download the cookiehometab.cab file on your computer,
2.then send yourself an email that is linked to your phone and attach the .cab file.
3.dowload the attachment on your phone and then run it to install it.
That should be all you have to do.
re
You can download the apps to your computer, they will just be unrecognizable. Transfer them to your SD card through USB or Bluetooth, and then search it on your phone. This worked well for me. Quicker then DL them strait from your phone!
theres a software called "missing sync" for mac's. try searching for a torrent or unless you want to buy the program. but it works better than activesync in my opinion.
Moved as not software release.
I'm using a macbook to connect to my hd2 most of the time. No problems connecting at all.
Connect USB cable and connect as disk drive on HD2, Macbook sees hd2 sd card as disk drive. Just access the drive on your mac and transfer the file(s) to hd2 storage card.
Or, if you have set up a bluetooth connection between the mac and the hd2, use the mac's "sent file" option in the bluetooth menu.
After you get the file to your HD2 you can use the original installation instructions again.
The syncmate program works great for syncing your contacts etc. But had some trouble getting it to work through bluetooth. I use the USB for that. But than the phone has to be set to active sync mode.
(love my macbook pro, but hated the iphone hype and the restrictions hence the HD2)

How DO you access the 16gigs internal on PC?

I'm a Nexus One owner, previously G1/MyTouch3G also, so I'm no n00b.
With all Androids, if you have a microSD card, you just plug in the USB and you can mount the microSD card as a drive and copy stuff to it. Which is necessary since we have stupid small ass internal storage. Also it's where we copy pictures/mp3s to it.
So now, with the Samsung Galaxy S series of phones with 16 GIGS of internal storage, how do we ACCESS this storage from the PC so we can copy pictures/mp3s to the internal storage? Is there a way to MOUNT the internal storage?
I haven't read a SINGLE thing about this.
It would REALLY suck if we had to manually do it: Mount microSD, copy stuff to it, unmount, use a file explorer on the phone itself and manually move the files into internal storage.
Yeah there's probably root apps and such that you can ssh in, or use adb to transfer, but that's NOT ideal.
Would be nice is the internal storage auto mounts when mounting microSD like Garmin GPS systems. Garmin GPS systems have SD card slot, when you plug it in, you can see the INTERNAL Garmin memory as well as whatever is on the SD card. (You'll see 2 removable storage devices mounting in Windows).
I think when it's plugged in, the normal notice pops up in the notification bar. But instead of just asking you to mount, it asks if you want to mount internal or the sd card.

No luck accessing internal RAM from me either (and I think other reviewers on CNET had the same bad luck)...Just got mine on Friday, and it is great except for connecting to the PC (64bit Vista) looping through MTP mode (the device keeps flashing back and forth between main screen and MTP mode, and the PC keeps trying to install the right driver to access the device as a USB mass storage device). Multiple restarts and messing with the device in Device Manager yielded no results, so I just used removable SD card to add files to the device. That obviously works fine, but is irritating.
Anyone else having trouble accessing Captivate as Mass Storage Device?
Best wishes to all.
I can't tell if you're using the Captivate driver located here.
Loosely related...I'm curious as to whether all the work going on in the Modaco SGS forums to optimize I/O (such as this) is applicable at all to the Captivate...anyone know?
I installed the driver on my Win7 machine.
I set up the USB to ask when I plug it in. I select Mass Storage. Two drives show up in the list of drivers, but when I click either one, it says "Please insert a disk in the removable disk".
What am I missing?
[EDIT]
Hang on, there was a window behind my windows with a message about install failure, device unplugged. Trying again.
[EDIT2]
Installed again. Didn't get error. Using same method as above, still no go.
So then I select PC Internet the next time I plugged in the USB cable, and it then gave the Windows POPUP saying Installing Drivers, and finished with Ready to Use. But, now I don't see the drives in Explorer. So I launched Windows Mobile Device Center...didn't see anything.

I have the popup set to ask, and as noted in my post, I did select Mass Storage first couple times. It does show drives, but but when I click either one, it says "Please insert a disk in the removable disk".
Thanks for the suggestion though.
The windows 7 drivers for htc android phones are hosed in general for me. I have to use linux in a virtual machine to access ANY htc android phone.
once you hit mass storage, if you bring the notification bar down, you can click the "usb" setting and select mount. Perhaps that will work? (or is that for mac only?)

yes, when you do this you will be able to access both drives without it asking you to insert a disk
I am new to android so I had this problem for a while. But you made my day madjsp. I have been trying to get this phone connected to my pc for the past 2 days, but with very little success. The kies software detected my phone only twice. But this connection was very erratic. Just to copy 200mb of photos the link showed a transfer time of 7 hours. The device would often disconnect itself after like 10 secs.
But until samsung fixes their software and drivers, the mass storage option works very reliably for transfering files between pc and (internal+external) sd cards.
My directions:
1) Choose the Mass storage option in USB settings of the device
2) Then connect to the comp.
3) There should be a message in the notification bar: "USB connected. Select to copy files to/from your computer" . Tap the notification and select mount from the popup.
Now you can view both sd cards from pc and transfer files to/fro w/ ease.
The last step is the most important one. For all those having the problem where clicking the drive in the pc reads "Insert a media into the drive", this should fix the problem. Maybe it is something android specific that I didn't know...
Same thing happen to me, i found drivers on this site and instead or hitting mass storage when it is connect to PC, I hit media PLAYER and it worked fine i was able to see the 16GB and my SD card, Loaded music and videos and pics with no problem, also remember only plug into the back of computer. you can find drivers on this site that will work on like pages 3-6

[Q] Help me,

Good, you have to forgive my ignorance but is that after several minutes did not find what I'm going to ask:
Windowsph7 exists in a file browser to enter the memory card?
As I can copy music files to your ?
The USB connection allows me to connect to your board and explore ?
All this I ask because when I connect the phone to the pc does not show anything like the memory card.
Thanks

WP7 isn't meant to be able to use the memory card as an external drive. It is solely used for the system. Think of the card as WP7's internal memory where the OS is stored. That's a bit simplistic, but you'll get the picture. The memory card isn't meant to be removed either. If you remove it, you will screw up the system. In simple words, WP7 doesn't have expandable memory. Forget the card. Forget all about it. You can't use it like a device that has a card slot for removing and so forth.
The question was not exactly that, it must be my English is very bad I want to copy some songs I have on my harddrive, you can not copy directly from the cable "?
No yu have to connect and sync through Zune, works well that way.

No, like the iPhone and iTunes software/hardware management, WP7 uses Zune to copy anything compatible to the device. And you can't select where on the device to copy it to. Meaning, you can't choose to copy anything to the card.
Perfect I've installed, all very well, now the problem is that I said that no device is connected, tells me to restart the device I have connected and reconnected, I've done it several times but still not working. Has this happened to someone "?
Thank you very much, you are a expert, I used my Windows Mobile 6.5
when you connect your phone via cable to the pc does it make that sound to show that a device has been connected?
if not, try other usb ports. it should come up in the notification area (aka system tray) that a device can be unplugged.
No, I have this problem ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-816935.html
But this does not resolve what you put in the Microsoft article, I tried it on two PCs but does not work, can not connect. Someone has solved another way "?
