REQUEST: x10 Contacts Backup App - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

Hi Devs out there...
You're probably all aware that the contacts backup feature with the x10 does not backup the high res pictures or the social media links that are part of the x10 experience...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673765
It also appears that SE don't care, nor are they going to do anything about it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7088169&postcount=8
So just wondering, are there any Devs out there willing enough to put together an app that will backup and restore these things properly...?
I assume it wouldn't take too much effort, and I'd certainly buy it for a dollar, as I'm sure hundreds of other users would also do...

I was able to back up my contacts, with high res pictures, using the included backup/restore app in the newest firmware.

I am wondering why MyBackup PRO cannot do that in hi-rez !? What about Titanium Backup ?

Hi Devotpohats,
I heard there was an included backup app in the new firmware, which I thought might do the trick, but I was surprised to hear from SE that they had no plans to fix the issue... I guess one department has no idea what the other is doing...
Can anyone else confirm that the new firmware backs up like a charm...??
Still not released for my carrier yet...
Although it's a darn pitty I still need a proper backup before I upgrade to the new firmware...

I was able to upgrade from R1 to R2 without wiping my phone through SEUS. Then I backed up the contacts.

Personally haven't tried, but as I believe the high res pics and facebook/twitter links are based on the SE custom UI, these backup programs would not know how to back these up.

Excellent news!

I dont back up my contacts at all. When i got my X10 i created a gmail account and generated a detailed contact list from it. I put the best quality pics i can get my hands on either from my pc, facebook or an online album. Now when i flash my phone i just have to sync it and voila, all my contacts are restored exactly as they were. Has worked flawlessly so far. Takes a bit of time to set it up that way but you'll never have to worry about again.

Not sure I follow you here? Do you mean link them in the phonebook app so it shows there latest facebook and twit updates? That would be unavoidable I think even if you were to find a nice backup app. I personally never open timescape up so that whole concept of checking my contacts for their updates through my phonebook doesn't concern me.

The first one. I should have been more clear. With that said its rather pointless though isn't it?

Contacts Backup does not work on my iPhone4 - what a waste of money, thank goodness only .99. It only sends 10 contacts from my contact list. I give it an F and will send my review to the app store. thank you.

[Q] Backup of Android Contact Links

Is there any way to backup your contact links? For instance, I linked a bunch of my phonebook contacts to my facebook contacts, but if I perform a full wipe those links do not get synced and I have to manually relink all of the contacts again (which takes quite some time!).
I noticed that the Facebook for Sense contact information gets synced, but after a wipe the regular Facebook link information does not.
I am running CM7 RC0.4 on HTC Thunderbolt.
Thank you!!

Have you checked your databases located in your /data/system, /data/data/,,,,,,,,
areas of your rom?
Give me a little while so I grab one of my nand backup and go through it. I believe it is in either one of the databases (sqlite3) or its in an xml file like other things.

sorry for taking so long to get back to you but long hours at work.
I still havent found a way to keep the links and incorporate them into gmail contacts. I have a feeling that it is something to do with facebook preventing this.
But it has sparked an intrest and I am going to look at something and see what happens.
Here is something I came across. I tried it for syncing FB to existing contacts in gmail

is there any other idea of backing up the link between contact list & facebook?
Ok, going to bring this up again. New version of cm7 for the tbolt and I would like to do a full wipe and not have to relink all of my facebook contacts with my phone contacts...any ideas?

I want to bump this question again.
I am using haxsync on my s4, and I want to backup links. In haxsync settings, there is a menu item that adds HTCdata links info to save link status to google contacts. Would this suffice? If I wipe and restore again, using haxsync, would they be shown even though they are <htcdata> on my Samsung? or is there a proper solution ?
Note: The device is rooted, so I can easily export a system file/folder and restore.
Thanks in advance,

miui help

just flashed miui, first thing i noticed was my apps are reinstalling themselves? did i get lucky or something? i don't recall this ever happening before after flashing a rom.
onto the real question,
is there any easy way to auto organize all the apps? I've got 100+ so it's going to be a real pain in the ass!
Thanks,
Cole
Edit: not all them came back, and the ones i restored with titanium backup aren't showing up under my apps in the market, how can i get them to show up?
Also, on the facebook sync, i don't want every person on my friends list sync'd. i chose only sync with existing contacts, but it decided to sync everything, help?

About FB i have no idea because it did that to me all the time so i gave up lol
But to make apps appear in market again I think in Titanium Backup if you long press there is a "link to market" button....havnt used it in a while tho.
EDIT: I think it was- open TB - Menu - Market Doctor... or something like that lol
For your Apps just make a folder put it on your dock bar and use it like a app drawer.
I have mine on the bottom right corner. Just put Ll your Apps in there

Contact/Calendar Sync WITHOUT needing HTC Software

For those of you who are experimenting with AOSP ROMs on your HTC phone and want to synchronize contacts and calendar items with your desktop, have a look at this application. You can install the Android version via the market, the desktop install is freely available from the developer's website below.
http://global.mobileaction.com/product/product_AM.jsp
Also have a look at MyPhoneExplorer. It is also free from the market and very similiar software. You can view your phone's screen on your monitor and operate your phone with your mouse and keyboard. It is a proven software.

Interesting. I like the less cluttered look of this desktop version, but what worries me is the non-english support forum. I wonder if using both of these tools, in addition to the HTC sync software, might create some sort of incompatibility.
ETA: I also wonder how these utilities will respond when switching between ROMs or versions. I don't know how they track synchronization sessions. It'd be a disaster if contact items were duplicated or triplicated when updating or experimenting.
I dont know if this goes here but i have been searching around for a answer.. on my inspire I had to reinstall my rom and when i did for some reason i cannot find my phone contacts.. how in world would i get them back I did have titanium but even it says theres nothing there.. i also just two days ago did a fresh backup on titanium.. strange huh.. so far everything has been replaced but my dialer contacts..

Did you have them synced with Google? If you did then just resign into your google account and they will be restore. As for TIBU it doesnt back up contacts by default as they are stored in System Data and restoring any system data, like contacts, sms, emails, wifi settings and things like that can cause huge issues when changing roms.
I had them synced but for some reason i cannot no matter what find them.. and they did not resync on the cell when i set it up again

once your sync options are double checked as Zel mentioned, sign in to gmail from the gmail app and get your email, this puts it into a forced sync. Should have all your stuff back.
Thanks for sharing, BillTheCat. I was not familiar with this app. I'l check it out. I've been using Google to sync my stuff.
I use airdroid it syncs contacts pics calender date and file and you can even answer texts on your desktop when your using it

[Q] Transferring contacts between OS's?

I just started reading up on rooting about 3 days ago so a lot of this is new to me but i couldn't find anything about this. I'm currently running CM9 ICS on on my infuse 4.0.4 and before i ever did any of this i used titanium backup and backed up all apps + system data while i was on froyo 2.2.1 and transferred it to my pc. I noticed they have a whole new people app on ics and i'm going to assume the old back up data is formatted for froyo, but i think they have the same destination?
data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/database
Something like that, how would i go about transferring them if possible? Apparently google never backed them up either. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
One of the many possible issues when testing unfamiliar roms...lack of homework....
But when you log on to the phone..and setup your google accts it is not...syncing your contacts....?
Well its either they were never synced or it's just not working, i could just wait until the roms complete i guess but for the time being it would be a lot more convenient to have them if possible
Is data working for you...on the phone? Can you log on gmail on your pc and see your contacts there?
Nope just the contacts I've added recently added since switching to ics. i never had any other google accounts. any thing i can do with these?

Extracted using titanium backup on froyo
Just gonna quickly warn you. Never back and restore system data between roms. It could cause problems to arise. If you're gonna restore, restore missing apps with data. Don't restore system data or anything with system in it
Try a pizza taco sometime, if you don't know what it is, look it up then
Haha yeah i learned that.. i was screwing around with it with pretty much zero knowledge about this and ended screwing up 3 or 4 system processes and had to re flash it. Any suggestions? any way to make the files into vcard data? By the way i have no idea what that really is i just tried importing from sd and it said "Cannot find Vcard data."
Go back to froyo, restore your contacts with TB. Once you have contacts restored click the "menu" soft key. Click the import/export option. Choose export to sdcard or export to memory or something like that...that will create vcard data
Now flash cm9 and restore contacts from sdcard by importing from sdcard
I know, its a lot of work but its the only way I can think of to create the card data

I can confirm that's where contacts are located, just used es file explorer and opened up the files as text...however I can not confirm changing the files in that directory with your old ones will work...
However if you do try to replace those files make sure you reboot after replacing
Good luck hope you get your contacts back

I was hoping i didnt have to go back to stock, will try just replacing the files let you know how it goes thanks
i honestly think you shouldnt reaplce ICS apks with FroYo apks..
youre gonna screw things up trust me
do the long way and go back to froyo export a Vcard then go back to ICS and import
youll be safer and itll save ya the headache
No luck, contacts were just blank with a small scroll bar as if there was a lot on the page. probably going to re flash tomorrow i have work in 5 hours haha thanks again
SUCCESS. I have all my contacts and numbers thanks to this:

[Q] Only a portion of my contacts.

Hey all. I just got done with a full factory restore then I flashed eclipse. Before any of that I backed up with titanium and backup assistant. Now when I got to contacts I only see a portion of what I once had. It seems like the numbers that are not associates with a google account are showing up. Any thoughts?

Have you set up your Google account? Backup assistant and TiBu only backup what's on your phone, not what's on a Google account.
I have. I noticed this ROM uses people in stead of the orange Contacts app.I wonder of that has anything to do with it.

Contacts are stored in your phone/google. Apps like contacts, people, phone, messaging, email etc. just read them.
Ok I am noticing it's only my google contacts and not the ones I saveed to my phone. I guess I didn't back up the right Douglas files

You should never save contacts to your phone anyways... some people just have to learn the hard way.
