I wanted to theme my evo mario style but I like the htc sense UI. Is there any way to change the home screen icons or the app icons?
Download the Mario icons you want to use. Either use an icon pack from the market by searching "icon pack" or use google to find others.
1. Search for Folder Organizer in the Market.
2. Buy it or download the free version.
3. Open Folder Organizer.
4. Click the Apps tab.
5. Find the app whose icon you want to change. Click on it. A menu pops up.
6. Scroll to the right of the menu that pops up. One of the buttons is "icon."
7. Click the "icon" button.
8. Choose "gallery" or "icon pack" or whatever choice is appropriate.
9. Select the new icon.
10. Exit Folder Organizer.
1. Go to the home screen. Long press a blank spot to bring up the widget menu.
2. Choose "Widget."
3. Don't actually choose a widget. Instead, choose "Folder Organizer ITEM."
4. Click "Apps" when prompted.
5. Check the box for whether or not you want a caption below the icon.
6. Click the app that you changed the icon for earlier.
7. The app is added to the desktop.
Thanks it worked great!

I mistakenly replaced the "Dialer Storage" shortcut icon at the bottom that was once in the Dockbar. I search through the installed apps, but I only see "Dialer".
I could be wrong, but I believe this is the default Android dialer... Have you tried reinstalling ADW - this might bring it back...you would, of course have to uninstall ADW first.

Maybe it was jus a modified shortcut icon and it really led to the dialer app?

Try "Anycut" from the Market. It lets you create shortcuts for hidden apps.

To get the call log shortcut
Go to home screen and long press and select custom shortcut/pick your activity/activities/dialer storage
If you dont have any sub activity as above in dialer storage do as below.
Go to home screen and long press and select custom shortcut/pick your activity/activities/phonebook/Call log
And select any icon you prefer and save it on home screen.
Then simply drag it to the bottom bar any location u prefer.

that only changes the icons you see in the folders of folder organizer doesnt it?
it doesnt let you change them and see them that way on the home screen.
You can change an icon for any app you place on the home screen so long as you use Folder Organizer to do it.
Go into Folder Organizer select your app and change it's icon to one you specify.
Next go to add an item to the home screen and go to more and select Folder Organizer Item.
Next select apps and select the app that you changed the icon to.
There you go, you should now have a custom iconed app on your home screen.
w00t, your right.. awesome!
Just what i wanted.
Thanks..
Glad you got it working. Incidentally, you can also change icons with ADWLauncher EX just in case your interested.
Cheers...
When I want to permanently change an icon (well not permanently since it can be undone) I use apk edit. Just type it in the search bar and it should pop up. Or you can just apply them with a launchers such as Go Launcher, Launcher Pro, and ADW

(1st thread and post, just wanted to share this).
Hello, and welcome to my tutorial on how to install Sense 4.0 on your android. Like the title says, these are all apps from the play store, and will require some tweaking, which I will take you through. Let's get started
Step 1: Installing your apps.
First, we will need some apps that will contain the lockscreen, interface, and some Sense-Like widgets. Here is a list of the apps you need to install:
Agile Lock free
Go Launcher EX
HTC Sense 4.0 (One X) Go Theme
Sense V2 Flip Clock & Weather
Android Pro Widgets
TV Show Favs
Once you've done this, press the Home key, and select Go Launcher EX as your home replacement, not Agile Lock.
Step 2: Lockscreen
Open up the Agile Lock app, and press either Yes or Never Show. Then press the power button. Next, press the settings button, and press continue. Then, press "Top Style Setting", and uncheck "Display weather widget". Go back, and uncheck screen lock sounds, unlock vibrate, and display music control.
Step 3: Theme
Press the menu key, and go to themes. Scroll over to the installed page, and apply the sense 4.0 theme.
Step 4: Preferences
Press the menu key again, but this time press preferences. Check infinite scrolling. Click visual settings. Scroll over to "Icons" and select the icon size as "Default Size". Then scroll over to "Indicator" and click Screen Indicator. Press Hide Indicator. Then go back. Press "Appearance Settings". Scroll over to App Drawer. Select the Grid Size as "Custom Grids" and make it 5x4. Don't select the 5x4 preset, as it doesn't work correctly.
Step 5: Setting Up The Homescreens
For your main homescreen, set a 4x2 Sense clock. Select your location (It might find it for you), and then uncheck display 24 hour time, and check am/pm. Next, get rid of all the preset apps. You can set up any apps you want, but I personally set a default LTEvo setup, (Contacts, Play Store, Google Apps Folder w/ Gmail, Talk, Maps, G+, and Voicemail). Same goes for your dock (LTEvo = Phone, Email, Apps, Messaging, Camera).
Keep in mind, this is just an LTEvo setup, you can fit your own fancy.
Scroll to the left once. For this, set a 4x4 People Widget.
Scroll left again. Set a 4x4 Calender widget.
Once again, to the left, I personally just set a google play music widget, and resized it to a 4x4, but you can just put whatever you want for a music widget.
Go back to the right once from the homescreen. Set a google search widget.
To the right again, set a bookmarks widget
On the last right page, set a 4x4 TV Show Favs widget. It will bring up a login. If for any reason you have an account already, use it. Otherwise, make one. Now if you don't make one, the widget won't show. Make another one, but with a tv show stack widget. If you back out again, it will be clear, which won't look good. If you make an account, it will be black, so that is preferable.
That's it. You will have a sense 4.0 like experience. I hope you like it. And remember it's OK to customize it!

Photo Tutorial: How to change the app icon name & image on Android
I created the screenshots in response to this question today, where I am writing up this photo tutorial to help leverage the half hour of documentation effort to others so all always benefit from every action I do to help anyone.
Please add value where you can.
Tested on a variety of phones (as I've been doing this for years), all unrooted, all using the Nova free app launcher.
STEP 1:
Choose any app whose app icon & homescreen name you want to change.
Check that this app shows up when you swipe upward to obtain the "app drawer" results.
Note that I chose the "Google" search app <com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox> which was in my homescreen "web" folder because that's an app that everyone has, and it can't be deleted so it's proof what any phone can do.
STEP 2:
On your Android homescreen, long press on the app whose icon you wish to change.
This will bring up a menu which may depend on your Android version & launcher.
On Android 12 with Nova launcher, press the "pencil" icon to begin the editing process.
STEP 3:
In that "Edit shortcut" GUI, change the "App label" (I changed "Google" to "I hate google".
Long press on the icon which will bring up another standard app-icon editing GUI.
STEP 4:
That standard app-icon editing GUI will allow you three choices for app icons:
a. Built-in
b. Gallery apps
c. Get more themes
Note: There are plenty of free "icon packs" available on the Google Play Store repository.
And it's trivial to create your own app icons if you want to customize them further.
STEP 5:
I selected a specific icon out of the built-in icons already on my phone.
Then I pressed the "Done" button in the standard app-icon editing GUI.
Voila!
Note that you can place these two apps side by side (as a test) if you like.
Note the app icon & app icon name are only changed in the placement on the homescreen.
A subsequent search in the app drawer and in app managers shows the original icon & name.
Please add value so others benefit from every post.
