I'm fairly new to android, came from a WinMo world. Overall everything is great, besides the in-call volume is very very low. Is there a way to increase this volume, like an app or to manually access the ALSA mixer to max the settings?

Ok, I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but for some reason when using any music app that has a equalizer function, when you max out the loudness it slowly lowers the volume back to a predetermined level.
if you wish to recreate this, follow these steps.
1.download poweramp trial or the equalizer app.
2. after installing, play some music. Make sure that your volume level is maxed.
3. while the track playing, if using poweramp, go to the preamp and raise the left slider all the way up. You will hear the volume raise, and it should gradually lower back to the way it was before you raised the slider.
If you are using the equalizer app, go to the custom level screen and click maximum level for all the sliders. The same effect will happen as with poweramp.
4. For further proof, after putting it at the maximum boost that you can, lower it back to the normal levels. The volume will be very low, and then slowly raise back the max that it was before.
This basically makes the equalizers useless. I'm wondering why HTC added this feature, because its very annoying...
Bump?

Folks,
On my HTC Sensation, the in-call volume is so low that I can hardly hear the caller. I always have to switch to the speaker.
My in-call volume is set to max.
I think this happened after htc-sync upgraded the OS version to 2.3.4. My wife has exactly the same model but she does not have this problem. Her phone has not yet been upgraded.
I called HTC. They tell me that it is a known issue and to check back with them periodically. A lame answer:-(.
I would appreciate it if anyone has any idea on how to get my in-call volume back.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,
Peter
i'm experiencing the same low in-call volume, so i rooted my device and installed the leaked HTC Sense 3.5 ROM and it's better, but not where i want it to be. i also flashed the TMOBUS (T Mobile US) rooted stock ROM and it has a HAC (Hearing Aid Compatible) feature that significantly boosts in-call volume, but you cannot adjust the volume. it's been my experience that volume boosts can be added to the kernel. i wish i knew how to do that... also, don't know if the source code has been released .... wish i could offer more help!

that's not going to work... you have to tweak the kernel (or some other object) to boost in-call volume. (i would love to be wrong, but i tried that app already)
+1 on vol plus you can also trie mikes revolution 4.1 which is the 3.5 sense leak. volume was a major improvement. developement has just started on this leak but i ran it with no major problems

The APP does not affect the earpiece or call volume. Its only for the speaker and music.
Volume + has boosted ALL volume settings on my phone including speaker. My experience has been
that the app needs to be manually activated as it seems to not start up at boot or run in background.

Root your phone and use volume + or dsp manager. Works like a charm. My volume is LOUD

i agree that the program works with in-call volume settings, or the same setting that you can adjust while on a call. the program does not amplify - or boost - the in-call volume like one can by manipulating the kernel (or other objects) so that it's louder. this type of manipulation is like adding an power-amplifier to a home-theater AV receiver. the net effect: on my Inc S with a stock kernel, my in-call volume setting would be level 4 (of 5). using a kernel with audio boost, my in-call volume setting is 2 and at most 3.

I bought the paid version of volume + over the weekend and actually got it to boost/amplify my call volume tremendously.
My only problem now is my new Anker battery is being drained at abnormal rates as a result from using this app. A 20 minute call costs 20=30% of battery life vs. before the app was installed.
Obviously the CPU is getting a work out just running the app. I would think the increased voltage to the speaker would constitute as some kind of amplification like a home theatre system.
Has anyone else experience abnormal battery life as a result from usning this app?
I noticed that after installing the ICS update the max volume is quieter than it used to be (possibly ASUS hack for fixing imbalance?) I would like to know if there is a way to boost the volume of the built-in speakers with an app or editing a file, please.
Cheers!

volume+ from the market.
PowerAmp music player and enable Direct Volume Control and/or gain in the app's settings. Tried Volume+ but to me it's just an equalizer thing, which seems to boost volume but at the cost of audio quality.
I have seen many equalizer apps and they create "loudness" not volume (basically boost the mid range near the high end)
My main problem is in Netflix, not music apps. The speaker just is not loud enough to watch anything on it without headphones anymore.
Cheers!

Install equalizer from market and crank everything up to maximum.
I experienced the same low volume problem after upgrading(?) to ICS, and Volume+ crashes immediately upon invocation for me. Have you found an adequate solution to the issue?

Supercurio is working on his Voodoo Plus app to be compatible with ICS, but I guess you already heard of that one. Available until Asus releases the kernel source to add modded kernels.
no sound also after ics update
Same problem.went to market downloaded equalizer by smartandriod app clicked on custom slid bars all the way up but then the middle bar backed off a littlebit sounded to tinny enabled bass boost to around 80% sounds great and it's free.
rooted, running jelly 'beans' B14. i use fairly low impedence Shure earphones which block out most sounds, so i don't need to listen at as high of a level, but the first tick up from muted/zero volume is still too loud at night when there is no ambient noise. i'm pretty sure i didn't have this issue when i was running stock, and i can only imagine how loud the phone is with the 50% volume addition in B15.
any thoughts? i've tried a handful of volume apps in Google Play but nothing i've tried can really lower the volume "floor." the only option i have right now is to use an in-line attachment with a more granular analog volume control wheel/slider, but it's bulkier.
TIA.
I'm no longer running beans so I may be mistaken, but isn't there a volume increase option in the aroma installer?

Hi, I am new to this forum. I am playing a sound in my Android app using ToneGenerator like below:
ToneGenerator toneG = new ToneGenerator(AudioManager.STREAM_ALARM, 100);
toneG.startTone(ToneGenerator.TONE_CDMA_ALERT_CALL_GUARD, 200);
But when the app plays the sound the volume is comparatively low. I understand that I have set the maximum volume in code. Also I have set max in volume in phone too. How can I play the sound in app relatively louder so that it is clearly audible to the user?
