for those of us on at&t in the US, the YouTube app does not connect if I am connected to AT&T Data connection as well as a wi-fi at the same time. I used a registry editor (according to this post)and removed the value "wireless.cingular.com:80" from the Proxy setting under the key HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\HTTP-{436eF144-B4FB-4863-A041-8F905A62C572}.
However since I flash so many ROMS, I would like to have this as a cab so that I can do it as a routine rather than remember the Registry key all the time.
Can anybody make a cab out of this?
Try this cab. You can also disable it in your network settings.
Thank you!!
thanks
thanks a bunch
This has been boggling me since I had the phone....why do the apps that come with the phone not use the data connection? I was killing me!
Thanks tons for this cab file! It did the trick...now all my apps (Opera 9 & Youtube) can use it without issue...3g or wifi. Awesome!
With the proxy, it prevents you from tethering.
Just like GPS they try to charge for everything but there is no need to pay for anything but a simple data plan.
F**k AT$T!

Phone: HTC Wizard (T-Mobile MDA)
Current Rom: X-Plore 2.0
Radio: 2.19.11
Network: T-Mobile USA
Since upgrading to X-Plore 2.0 I am able to use Netfront, Internet Explorer, SMS, and MMS. But programs like Pocket IRC, the FTP client within Total Commander, and things like that won't connect to the net. I have verified that my settings are correct, So I donot understand what is occuring. All these worked perfectly before the upgrade but now donot at all. Unfortunately I donot have a Data Cable any longer to try and see if it was merely the rom or something else.
Please someone help!
This includes Windows Live (not connecting). I don't get it, why are browsers connecting but not my apps?
Okay just tried a hard reset. Still No Bueno.
If this helps:
Programs That Do Connect:
1. IE
2. NetFront
3. Opera (loaded only to test if it would connect)
4. SKTools (When it connects to see if there are updates available)
5. Tweaks2K2.Net (When it connects to see if updates are available)
Programs that DONOT connect:
1. PocketIRC (Keeps acting like it kind find a server to connect to just jumps from ip addy to ip addy trying to connecy)
2. Total Commander FTP Plugin (Says ''Username not accepted; Offline'' And that is on multiple FTP's including XDA'S!!)
3. Windows Live
Now I have verified my settings in connections and the fact that my browsers will connect shows me its able and is connecting and browsing the net. Please guys what could it be???? Thanks in advance!
And you are using GPRS ?
My WindowsLive is working ...i did not tested the others you said, but i am sure that Windows Live is connecting....except now, it won't work neither from my PC, that's M$'s bad not mine...
Mabe it's the connection or data plan. Are you sure that it worked before..or you changed data plan meanwhile ?
Yeah It worked before and I have not changed my data plan. If I recall it worked after the upgrade for a short while. Its been occuring for about a week now. Its bloody frusterating because my browsers all work, I can browse the internet, and do all that good stuff. I just cannot get things like PiRC & Total Commander to connect to the net. Even after a hard reset...Nothing. Could T-Mobile be blocking these apps? Of course once again that would not explain why NetFront and Opera, Sktools and Tweaks2k2 can connect. I am about to install OZ IM ill let you know if it works. Question though, Is there an alternative to using T-Mobile USA's 216 Proxy? Maybe a better one? Cuz maybe if I change the proxy to a non-T-Mobile one they won't be able to block it anymore..... Hmmm its an idea.
and sure enough OZ IM Connects its the one I found in the Ext. Rom
Yeah its gotta be a T-Mobile issue cuz all the programs that DONOT connect via GPRS/Edge connect perfectly via WIFI. Why would T-Mobile do that and is there a way around it?
Okay so I called T-Mobile and they deny doing anything of the sort. Which is good and bad. I am also getting a nice little messege in both WIFI and in GPRS when trying to download anything that states "This device is restricted from downloading this file type" when trying to download anything from the net. Any ideas?
Edit: I also called HTC and they said that there are no settings in the phone that would cuase this occurence which is bull becuase umm yeah....Anyway HTC tech support or at least every one of them that I talked to is for crud. Not very good support those guys.
Which data plan do you have? The $29.99 Internet one or the $5.99 T-zones one. If you only have the $5.99 plan, t-mobile filters a lot of the traffic that isn't on specific ports (ie port 80 for http works, but many other's won't) which causes some programs to not get network access. There were some proxies that allowed you to get around those, but a lot of them aren't working anymore last I heard.
If that's the case, probably your only solution is to pay for the full data plan which includes all ports internet access.
See the only reason I donot suspect the Data Plan being the issue (yes I have the 5.99 T-Mobile Web Plan, formely the $2.99 T-Zones) is because programs like NetFront and the like are connecting without issue. However I DO Suspect its a setting of some sort within the phone. I am going to try a level 2 Hard Reset (the one done with the combination of buttons) and see what happens. I tried a level 1 hard reset (The clear storage) to no avail. The level 2 hard reset will hopefully wipe it.

I am in the same boat as you. With my tinkering I found that programs automatically connect to the connection called "The Internet" which there is no way I can edit.
It connects to this "The Internet" automatically even when I set it to connect to my Proxy setting connection in Settings>Connections>Advanced tab on the bottom>Select Networks. Could that be the problem?
Okay after my Hard Reset 2 (the combination of buttons, I was finally able to get to download programs again, however I am back to having a 1MB download limit. And in answer to your question yes I have the same thing even though I don't have a connection called ''the internet'' other thing I have noticed is that the connection ISP does not allow for the assigning of a proxy server. Even though you can just make a new connection and assign a proxy server to that new one. This however does not circumvent our little issue. Nor does it get rid of my 1MB dl limit. Anichulis do you know how to change programs defualt connections away from Internet and assign them to use GPRS?
Hey This issue, is still occuring any ideas?
Yes I searched extensively, and didn't find an answer, okay, now that that's out of the way...
I am running V.4 of Laurentius26's ROM, and downloaded the Restore and Disable Proxy Cabs. Well, if i run the Restore Proxy no pages will load in IE or Opera Mini, everything works fine again though when I run the disable proxy cab. Is there a reason why this is happening? I am wondering if there is some issue with the AT&T cabs and the HTC ROM's. I don't normally need to Proxy, but I would like to turn it on once in a while to access the MEdia Net home page and Cellular Video, thanks for the help guys!
76 views and no ideas at all?
I think all these cabs do is change some registry settings, have you tried to make these changes manually and see if that works?
Yeah, I have gone into the registry and done it manually, but it still does the same thing. I think it must have something to do with the way HTC's ROM's work that doesn't work well with AT&T's Proxy.
Edit-You can set the MEdia net connection to use the Proxy all of the time, but certain things don't work with it, like Telenav and TomTom (the program works fine, but trying to update or use the Plus services, like Traffic Updates, fails with the proxy). That's why I am hoping I can find a way to use the enable/disable proxy cabs again.
I think i might know what your problem is, the restore and disable proxy cabs will only work if the proxy is hardcoded into the registry. It is like that on the official AT&T roms. If you just let connection setup run or install a few of the cabs floating around here for AT&T settings the proxy will be listed in the connections, like if you go look at the media net connection and you should see a tab with proxy settings and they will be configured. The AT&T ROMS don't do that anymore, they place them in the registry and the enable and disable proxy cabs will turn it on and off. The reason for that is to make it easier to surf on your phone with a wifi connection. If you want the connections set up in such a way that you can use the enable and disable proxy cabs then you will need a cab with those settings, i used to have one but i can't seem to find it. You could search the forum and i am sure you could turn something up. RF9 has an excellent post that goes more into detail on this matter. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=8555248
Depending on what you want to do though you could just change the My ISP conection to be wap.cingular and leave the MEdia Net one as is and use the My ISP anytime you want to connect without a proxy. Happy Modding
Do it manually. Just open the cab on the PC and view the file. Oddly I think the one I tried first a few weeks ago was backward in naming convention. The remove seemed to enable and viceversa.
Hello,
I would like to know if anyone knows how to disable the internet access on the Touch Pro for i do not have a Data Plan for my phone yet, and i do not want to be billed for unnecessary data being used unkowingly.
Thanks in advance
i really haven't seen such a tool, but the safest way that i could think of is to change ur network setting to fake ones like random numbers and address, so in case of some app connecting on its own u wont be charged!!
ditto that. just remove the settings for media net.
thanks i shall try it out =]
I changed my "connections>advanced" settings to point to "My Work Network" rather than "Medianet" and disabled data in the wireless manager. I can still connect to my wireless network and use the internet but if I'm not on that it just times out. I'm checking my online billing every day since doing that as I'm still not 100% trusting of it but it seems good so far.
Just install this freeware app http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
Works great.
Hi All,
Im new here and very new to Windows Mobile (So far the experience has been great)
I have been trying to figure how to disable the data connection opening automatically (By a request from an application)
I disable the data connection from the Settings > Communications, however for example Garmin just re opens the connection for me (Which is rather expensive from were i am from)
As a work around i stay removing the Data Connection Profile and re creating it every time i need to use it once again...
Any ideas since its getting quite annoying..
Thanks!
search for NOGPRS cab. great program. lets you toggle for when you need it or dont./
Thanks for the Tip m8

Thanks! Just what I need. I only want to disable data when abroad.
Worked like a charm!
I have an AT&T Fuze. I dont have Data Plan with it and I really do not want to accidentally use it. I have disabled the settings of the Media Net but sometimes I still think if I missed disabling some settings. I just want to use my Wifi for all my browsing and apps. AT&T mentioned to me that they can put a hold on this line that I cannot use Data Plan. Has anyone tried that?
I am sorry if this is not the right place to put this.
Thanks for looking
You can have ATT block data, but you will not be able to use MMS either. If that does not bother you, then that is definitely the way to go.
Or you could search for a cab called NOGPRS and that will solve your problems.

I searched for it and found the NoDATA cab. In the settings it says GPRS and MEDIA NET disabled.
Hopefully it is right
thanks
