wm6.5 ends tasks - General Questions and Answers

I just recently upgraded from windows mobile 6.1 to 6.5. I noticed that when you exit out of a program, it totally exits now instead of continuing to run in the background. is there any way to change that back like 6.1 had it? an example of why i wanted this was for playing a playlist. I had the windows media player widget on my home screen and i would add a playlist, then be able to exit out of windows media player and see my home screen again while the music still played. or does anybody have any ideas of a widget that will allow me to play music while still doing other things on my phone? Thanks in advance.

This is a simple answer but maybe is what you are looking for
Have you tried making the "X" minimize your programs instead of ending them?
Go to:
Settings->System->Task Manager->Button
End programs by tapping and holding "X"

Media / music player

can anyone tell me how hard it would be to make a really good music player for pocket pc's. because I find it baffling that with all the music/media players out there that none of them are any good!!!( i believe they try and make them to complicated) I'm looking for one that as easy finger touch screen interface and one handed use! I want to me able to scroll and move between all my music, artists, albums etc, by finger and D-pad. Seen as Microsoft seem to want to ignore the media part of the phone(can't see why they can't just put portable media center into WM5) then I think we are going to have to do it?!?!?!
Any ideas? anyone agree?

If you need big buttons easily pressable with just a finger, get MortPlayer. It's in no way the best media player (taking everything into account - see my previous multimedia reviews), but it's free and has BIIIIIIIG on screen buttons.
i've tried mortplayer, but as user interface goes it's rubbish!!! how hard would it be to write a full interface that is like portable media center?

PDA WM6 Remote Control for WMP?

Can anyone recommend a good free/paid for PDA remote control for WM6 to control Window Media Player (WMP 11) on a Vista x64 machine?
A google doesn't reveal much, or at least reveals a lot of old looking software. I tried PadOne which looked promising, but it doesn't install on Vista x64 (I need to investigate).
The basic objective is to remotely control Windows Media Player (play, stop, forward/back, volume up and down, & playlist selection if possible). Any other solutions?
Google for RemoteAmp... it controls Winamp... I think supports WMP too.
Thanks Lee, though it looks like RemoteAmp only supports winamp. But luckily on the back of that google through up some possibles, on this geekzone page.
NetRemote Music is looking the most promising from the screenshots. I'll trial later.

mp3 AND WMA(!) media player or proper screen "turn-off" app

Hey Guys
various people recommended to me the GSPlayer however, the version I have doesn't seem to support WMA, is there a version that does or is this correct?
If GSPlayer doesn't support WMA, can anyone recommend a player that;
a - plays MP3
b - plays WMA
c - turns the screen off where only a pre-programmed key/combo will turn it back on
Failing that, im happy to use WMP but i need a screen blanking app to support it. I've tried a couple but they seems to come back to life pressing almost any key - not much use when the phones in my pocket. I need a screen blanker where it will only come back on with the power button or I can program a key/key combo, any suggestions?
Thanks loads guys!
Pocket Windows Mediaplayer has that option. Go to the player (not the library) Menu>options>Buttons (or whatever the tab on the far right is called in English) and if you scroll all the way to the bottom there is the Screen on/off option. TCPMP also has this feature.
If this isn't what you are looking for you can also install psShutXP, this comes with the program Display Switch, which you can link to a certain button with a button-configuration tool.
Grtz.
well stone me! So it does, thanks very much WMP is fine for my purposes.

Windows media player bigger icons?

Hi
Did a search and couldnt find anything on this. Is there a way to make wmp more finger friendly. I dont want to change the player but is there a way to make for example the library view menu icons larger as to select "All Music" "Artist" etc options are quite difficult with fingers and dont want to have to use the stylus all the time. Same for all other sub menus within those like album names and song titles if they were abit larger it would be so much better for navigating!
Thanks!
+1. WM 6.5 modified the menu's so navigating b/w the player and the library is fine now, but the library list is still very small to use.
Maybe there's a registry key to change the size of the font?
hmm not ready to try 6.5 yet so yer if something could be ported over?
Also I tried installing some skins for media player but they didnt work windows media player didnt find them for some reason so then i tried to delete them from the folder and i accidently deleted the default skin. So i would appreciate it if someone could send me the default skin and also why wouldnt the skins work in the first place? I used a cab which stuck them straight in the windows media folder?!

windows media player problem

hi
from today my wm player on my hd2 it won`t start, i don`t know why.
also my ringtones are dead, my phone is not ringing anymore.
someone any ideea?

Hi
I have had the pleasure to crash the sense UI regardig the Media Player.
Short Summary:
If you copy an album form the Laptop/PC (Windows Vista) having a physical directory name including Spcial Char '.' (dot) it will make the Media Player not to show but instead having the Sense UI to restart and then returns to Start Screen.
A lil longer explanation:
ON LAPTOP:
I recorded a LP (Vinyl) Artist 'Phil Collins' Album; '…But Seriously' on my Windows Vista Laptop. Then I created a Directory in my music folder named 'Phil Collins' and a subdirectory '…But Seriously' where I placed the different .mp3's that the album contains.
iTunes is my prefered player on the Laptop and no problems in adding the new LP to my iTune library including album arts - and other comments.
Then, to have it available on the HD2 I copied the 'Phil Collins' directory incl. The Sub-directory '…But Seriously' to my storage card on the HD2. After copying the directory and dismounting the HD2 from the USB connction I scrolled to the 'Media Player' icon via Sense to see if arts and album are in place as expected.
What happens now is that the HD2 hangs a second on the Media Player Icon and then the HD2 decides to restart the Sense UI, as like you just booted the HD2, 'Starting Sense' typed in top of the screen and you end up at the Start Screen.
- This kind of behavior can not be cancled - even if you completely delete the 'wrongly' named directory ('…But Seriously') from the HD2.
Only way to make Senes UI work again for the Media Player is to make a Hard Reset (format it).
The Data connection seems to be broken/corrupted too when you have hit this error. Anything from that the Sense UI in it self works fine as long as you don't use the Media Player Icon.
No error msg. Was shown.
After I made a Hard Reset I made som tests:
And I could trigger the above mentioned bug each time I had a music directory containg the '.' (dot).
Examples:
…But seriously
The best of Spike Jones Vol. 2
If removing the dots from the physical directory but keeping the dots inside iTunes (eg. showing the dots in the album name within iTunes) everything works perfect.
Bottomline: If you wanna copy music albums to your HD2 be aware you might hit an error that only are solved by a hard reset - so think twice before you name your directories.
