m:IQ/miqlive - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

OK, so I used to have an X1, but that's just bitten the dust, and I' upgraded to an X10. Now here's the thing, the X1 was WinMo, so I used used m:IQ to back up my contacts/texts/pics/vids etc to the web. Sadly, m:IQ is only compatible with Android 2.1x, so I have no way to add my old contact other than manually!
Is there a workaround to get m:IQ working on the X10, or failing that, is there a sync service where I can manually add my contacts on a PC (so I can make use of a proper keyboard) and then sync to my phone? Either a software or online client would do fine!
Thanks in advance all.

No MMS - How Can I Enable/Add It?

Hi guys,
I downloaded a few ROM's over the last few days because I was not happy with some features or the stability of them. Eventually I decided upon Tomal's 8.81 ROM.
I am new to the HTC Universal and indeed Windows Mobile in general, though I am starting to grasp it. I purchased a Movistar version (Spanish) and corrected the keypad settings for the spanish language etc, but I have since realised that there is no MMS available on the ROM.
I actually need MMS for my business (I purchased the HTC Universal to use for business as I previously had a K800i with Opera and SSH etc running on it, but needed something better) so without MMS I cannot use the phone.
I would like to keep the phone as it is, with the ROM I have on it, because it has taken me a good few hours to set everything up as I like it, and the ROM is stable and very fast, and also has all the features I like.
So is there anyway I can add MMS to my messaging area? All I have right now is Text Message and Email, both of which are working fine. From what I understand it is not present in Windows Mobile 6, is this correct, and if so, what addon must I install to use it?
Also, as a side thought, I changed the GPRS settings to stay connected all the time and not on-demand, so the phone is connected all the time; where can I change it back to on-demand as I seem to have lost where it was.
Many thanks in advance!!
install it
Wow, this has worked a treat, many thanks friend, it is very much appreciated!!

Newbie, but not really

OK, just pulled the trigger on an upgrade and went with the Captivate. $49 from Amazon was hard to resist. Upgrading from a Tilt 2 that I love, but just can't deal with the WinMo bugs any longer. Was considering a Droid X, but the Verizon plans are just too pricey. Hope I made the right decision and that Froyo will be available for this phone pretty soon. Need to get up to speed on Android when the phone gets here Friday. Been running XDAndroid on my Tilt 2 for a month and liked it even though it is very crippled. Hope I can get and give help here. Thanks to all who make XDA such a great time-waster.
i came from the tilt 2 and i hated it more and more with each passing day. i ran XDAndroid or energyrom... it was always laggy no matter what interface i used. I've tried spb mobile shell, titanium, sense, android..
when you get the captivate... make sure you back up your device id. i've never ran the stock rom once... i flashed as soon as i got it. compared to the tilt 2, you'll notice that the response is amazing and you'll never be able to go back. I bricked my captivate once and I had to use the tilt 2 until my jig arrived and it was torture.
enjoy, my man!
Thanks for the welcome. Phone should be here on Friday. I don't want to start off with a custom ROM, but I would like to know what enhancements I should make to the stocker. I've been a WinMo user since 2003 and know all the ins and outs, but Android is new and so very different. The main thing I would like to do is sync with Outlook, if that's possible. Not crazy about using the Google cloud for my personal info and I prefer the Outlook interface. Any help in that regard is much appreciated.

Just a heads up right now, there is no easy way to sync Outlook with this phone that I have ever seen.
Welcome... I'm in the same boat w/ Miami.... WinMo since WinCE and my last one was the original Tilt.
1. First thing you'll want to do is read this and then root the phone
http://samsungcaptivate.wikia.com/wiki/Samsung_Captivate_Wiki
2. The easiest way to do a direct sync with Outlook is to use Kies
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731454
On a slightly related note, Pocket Informant has an android beta out right now.
If you used this in WinMo then you're going to be very disappointed in the native Android Cal

Did you have any luck with the Kies/Outlook sync? I've followed those directions to a T, had no errors at all, and no Outlook data anywhere on the phone even though it said it had synced successfully.
yes... worked perfectly after I did the following...
1. Installed .Net4 & the USB drivers to PC
2. Turned OFF USB debugging mode
3. Used HomeSwitcher to (temporarily) change back to the default launcher
4. Used a program called FileSearchForKiesFix to find all of the filenames on the phone that are longer than 16 digits. This solved the MPT crash loop issue
....and Kies connects every time I use it
I, too upgraded it from winmo, as well.

I never have the Kies connection problem, and never got the MTP loop issue when I synced it. Getting Outlook to sync properly is the only way to get my dad to keep his Captivate and not get an iSuck4.

Desire S on it's way , a couple of questions

Hi all ,
As the title says I have a Desire S on it's way and should be here tomorrow and I have a couple of questions .
1,
What's the best way to transfer the contacts and calendar from my current phone to the Desire S ?
Is it best to set up Google Sync on my Windows Mobile and use that to sync between both phones ? or is there a better way ?
I am currently using a HTC HD Mini .
2,
What's the best SatNav program for the Desire S , using offline maps ( Saved to memory card )
I am using TomTom at the moment on my HD Mini and it works perfectly .
It's my first Android phone and any guides / tips are most welcome.
My last few phones werea all Windows Mobile .
Thanks in advance .
Hi!
1.) Congrats
2.)The easiest way is certainly through google, Going from asus P750 I remember some programs to transfer data across platforms, but it was not very reliable (national characters lost etc...)
3.) I'm currently using iGo which I used on WM too, but sadly iGo can not be purchased normally for Android, it's a company solution only... so unless you want to .... iGo, I'd recommend Sygic or something similar...
4.) Wait for the phone to arrive to raize questions, I'm sure you'll have many
Thanks for the reply ,
It turned out to be easy to get my contacts and calendar from my HD Mini to the Desire S .
I set up a gmail account , and used ActiveSync on the HD Mini to sync to the gmail account .
When I turned on the Desire S for the first time and entered the gmail account details , it downloaded all my contacts .
Love the phone so far , I'm still finding my way around Android...
Same with me, i'll get my Desire S this Sunday. Before i use Samsung Galaxy Ace.
i've several question
1. If i get s-on, may be it not possible to root it atm. so my question how i can remove advertisement in some app? (last time i used adfree but i know it only work for rooted phone)
2. Where i can found flashing tools and firmware for this device? (last time samfirmware give me all of this for samsung)
Thanks before
1. u can't
2. look at the desire s android development forum, there is a thread with the OEM roms
For the of-line Navigation, I don't know which is best, just to avoid the included HTC Locations. I paid for a full perpetual licence, it refused to work and Route 66 refused to refund me.
However, I can certainly help you with some tips! I have done a beginner's guide on this thread...

Here you can download my tips and suggestions in .pdf format. I updated it yesterday.
There should be at least a couple of helpful bits in there for you!

[Q] [PC] Recovery

Hi all,
lately I installed youwave on my pc and experienced that one can really use whatsapp to chat with other users which have an actual android/iOS/windows/etc device. Next I tried to install android to my pc using VirtualBox, but when I installed whatsapp I got a message "unable to identify your device" which is understandable. But then I started to wonder, how could youwave get the job done where VB did not? After trying to install some other versions of android to my pc I figured that you couldn't install your own apps but only the ones which were in the preset app market. For example there was no OI Filemanagement which is there in the real app market. The best thing about youwave was that one version of whatsapp didn't work, but then I downloaded the newest version from whatsapp.com and it worked fine. I realised and tested that this would not work in my VB version of android.
I'm not a real hero with porting and virtual stuff, but now I'm trying to understand how youwave works in this. And my question for you here is, is it possible to achieve what youwave does myself with VirtualBox? If yes, how would I do that?
When I think about it I think you must achieve some of the following:
- Make VB think your pc is a HTC Sensation (in my case);
- Install the clockworkmod and rom manager to your virtual Sensation.
- Make a backup of your real phone in recovery mode and use this backup to recover your virtual one.
- Then someway, share your PC's network with your phone by making it think it has a wireless network in range?
- Install the newest whatsapp (which worked in youwave)
You'll probably think why the heck doesn't he JUST use youwave. There are several reasons, the most important one is I do not have a creditcard and do not even want to spent a lot of money just to whatsapp on my pc for fun. Besides I want to understand the proces of porting android to your pc and using it like it was a real phone, like with the google addon etc. And I don't like the UI of youwave.
So, if anyone knows if any of this is possible, I would appreciate your help. I think I saw someone somewhere talking about porting a backup of his phone to his PC but I can't remember where. I'm not asking you to come over to me and install everything for me but I just like an explanation where to start and what my possibilities are.
Anyway thanks for your attention.

Podcast settings gone?

Hello,
back in September when I updated to Mango, i was able to change settings for podcasts I subscribed to via the phone itself. This included that the phone would automatically download new episodes via Wifi without the need of the Zune Software. (see the top section of this site: http://www.wingadgetnews.com/subscribe-podcasts-windows-phone-7/ )
I am now running version 7.10.8773.98 on my phone (Custom Nextgen+ ROM) and this setting has gone missing. Did Microsoft remove this option in later versions of Windows Phone? Is there some way I can get it back? I do not want to have to boot my PC and start the Zune software to sync my podcasts, I want my phone to do this on it's own like it used to to back in October.
So, I figured this out a while ago through intensive searching and trial, but I figured I post the sollution in this thread for future reference.
all that is needed is a registry change in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Zune\Settings
here you'll find a registry entry called "XuidLocale". For me, the value was DE-DE as I live in germany. I changed this to us-EN and the podcast settings came back.
After I reboot my phone, the value changes back to DE-DE, but the podcast settings are still accessible, so that's a good thing
I just upgraded to Tango 7.10.8773.98 (legit) as well as the .12220 firmware for my Lumia 800, and I seem to have lost these features as well. I tried searching for a solution here on the forums and this seemed to be the most relevant and helpful.
However, I can find neither the settings folder nor "XuidLocale" when going through my registries. Any help would be appreciated...
Edit: Or is this fix only for rooted/unlocked phones?
I've just upgraded to Tango and lost the ability to manage podcasts from the handset too. I thought this was a feature of low-end handsets, not my Lumia. As this is one of my primary uses of my phone it could be enough to drive me back to Android and Jellybean.

Yeah, makes sense. I misinterpreted OP's post.
Has anyone (non-US) retained their podcast settings after updating to Tango? Perhaps particularly someone from Sweden with a Lumia device? I got the advice to simply just master reset the phone and just re-sync everything again, but I don't really want to do so if it won't amount to anything.

I wiped when I installed (Zune wouldn't put Tango on so I flashed it using the Nokia care suite - Vodafone UK PAYG version same as my Mango). I have lost my podcast management abilities - I had them in Mango.
Has anyone managed to find the fix for this for non-unlocked devices?
I was able to subscribe to podcasts before on my Lumia 800 but as soon as I installed 12220 the options has gone.
Unfortunately, this happened to me too. Couldn't subscribe to new podcast feeds on the phone (although previously-added feeds still updated). There isn't a registry editor that works with my phone either.
As over-the-air podcast syncing is one of my most-used features, I have reverted back to a pre-Tango backup (using Zune). Everything works fine now, albeit on an older OS version.
Sounds like MS added a region check to Tango to make sure you're in a region that has podcasts in the Zune store before allowing you to manage them on your phone. I hope this gets fixed
I think you are out of luck. Unless MS decides to magically bring these features back, if you don't have the ability to edit the registry, you wont be able to manage podcasts on the device
Sorry.
On Tango it worked for me too.
Now i´m an wp7.8 and there it didn´t work
Any idea?
