[MOD] Corporate Address Book - Desire Android Development

I was able to extract & ran the Corporate Address Book from Motorola Droid on the latest FROYO build (which I missed badly).
Just push the attached files in /system/app and you will have the corporate directory available for FROYO.
I am using it in Modaco's ROM for several days and found no issue so far.

can you port Motorla email app (which I hope operates Exchange better than froyo)?

I will try to do that but not sure that cannot be done.

is this an app or just an adjustment of the stock e-mail app from froyo?
I can search in my exchange adress book (corperate)

It is an app.

Thanks for sharing this. Did you do anything further than installing the Apk?
On my end, it fails to find any name and return "sync error".

Well I have tested it with my exchange server and it works perfectly

Sweet, was thinking of tunrning back to Sense to get this function. Great work!

[APP PORT REQUEST] HTC Mail Client (Desire)

Is it possible to install the HTC Mail client (from HTC Desire) on the Nexus 1? I've grown used to the 2.1 interface and not interested in running Sense UI. However, I would like to have the HTC Mail client since it comes with full Exchange support (mail, contacts, calendar). I know it is not as easy as pushing the APK - I already tried that and got the Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY]. Any ideas on whether running this app (with libraries) on the Nexus 1 is possible?
N1 already does exchange mail and contacts. just install motocal and motogal for exchange calendar and global address list.

Mail client in N1 does not seem to fully support mail2web exchange, and the client is VERY limited. I had to purchase Touchdown.
Yeah, the HTC Mail client depends on HTC's frameworks, which means you have to run a full HTC ROM to get it. you can, however, push the default 2.1 Launcher2.apk into a Desire ROM, for that stock feel with HTC goodies. (well, you should be able to. I haven't tried it, but see no reason why it wouldn't work). And if you want to go even farther, you could probably push Browser.apk, Calendar.apk, maybe even Settings.apk... and a bunch of others to make it look and feel stock, but keep some HTC goodies. And I'm sure there's a morph out there that will change the statusbar back to light color.
You dont need to push anything the launcher is there... Go to settings programs and disable dfaults for htc sense and bam u have default launcher.

I am running CorGAL and MotoCAL right now. The 2 features I am missing is the ability to look up corporate addresses from within the native email application, and have a automatic signature applied. We have 5,000 employees and although I don't email each of them routinely - I just don't want to have to look them up individually each time - nor do I want to download their email to my address book. I know Touchdown can do all of this, but I think their implementation is horrible. HTC Mail client is a nice piece of work and that is what I would like to use.
try k9mail
Very cool app with search and folders the 2.510 is awsome but i recomend to fully understand the folders class thing
Very stable and cool with attachements (my first concern )
i tried to pull the motogal.apk from the droidx froyo rom and push it in, but i dont see it in list of programs, do we need to port it to froyo? or am i doing something incorrectly? i use android commander to do this?

Looking for a good email app

What is the best email app out there. I currently use the stock email app and have tried k9mail but I don't like the way either of these deal with folders. I would like to find an email client that can actually work with folders. Any suggestions?

I personally like the pure series thats available in the market it allows you to combine your sms, email and gmail all on one widget with options for skins and such. Also allows for manual and automatic refresh I like it alot been using it for several months. good dev support etc.

Gmail is the best by far
What I was looking for was an email program that had better nested folder access more like you have on the iPhone. I gave up my iPhone for the Hero but their email program had much better folder control.
I use Gmail. Once you understand how to use labels to mark your mail folders are no longer relevant.

Gmail won't do exchange though, will it? I have the stock mail app set to 'as items arrive', and I seem to remember the gmail app won't do that (admittedly I haven't played with that app in awhile).
Googles Labels are very similar to Folders, once you understand them. Take a look at this:
http://lifehacker.com/5513040/gmail-adds-nested-labels-sneak-peek-to-labs
Also, with Gmail on my Hero, if I have Gmail open on the browser on my laptop, I can actually see the emails come in faster on the phone, and then within 30 seconds on the laptop.
I would say, give it a try, set up an account and see what happens.

I have used Touchdown for Exchange and it does support Push email if your exchange server does. It isn't too bad, and there is a trial in the market.

Well my goal would be to be able to use one app for gmail and exchange. Right now I'm using k9 for gmail (I hate the gmail app and don't really like the stock mail app either) and stock for exchange.
I'm looking for a good email widget for CM7 RC2. I just synced my work exchange account with my phone and tried K9 but it was giving me an IO Error (no idea what that mean). I've tried looking for any type of widget, but not really finding anything good. You guys have any suggestions?
Have you tried K9 mail?

Best email app on CM7 / Boca

I switched recently to Boca and could not be happier in terms of performance and battery life.
I am missing one thing though: the well designed / slick / beautiful email app from Samsung (probably the only touchwiz thing I miss I would say)
Which email app are you guys using? Kaiten, Moxier, Enhanced email look interesting. Any advice?
I remember a post a year ago explaining Samsung's email app was just a derivative of another one but I cant find the ppst anymore... Could be interesting to explore this as well

I tried Maildroid, it seemed okay. I prefer Samsung email over the Gmail app too...
I really like the Samsung email app on my 8.9. I use that for my work email and keep my personal email in the gmail app. On my galaxy s and my (former) evo I use the enhanced email app. The developer for that app was really responsive when I first got it (back when it was $0.99, and had less than 50 downloads). I originally got the enhanced email app because it was the first one I could find that offered exchange phone lock password requirement bypass.
Thank you, I will have a look I checked K9 and Kaiten mail but I can't believe they still don't support Exchange 2010
I lve the Samsung app, definitely my favorite but I haven't found anyway to install it on a non Samsung ROM. I tried restoring with Titanium backup, I tried installing through ADB, but then got some certificates issues... Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]
Couldn't find anything on the web with people able to go around and install it
If you want the samsung mail then you need to use a Touchwiz based rom. Boca is a CM7 based rom. Other than that if you need trie exchange support then touchdown is the best. Or just use imap and kaiten.

Yes I know that you need a Samsung Rom to have the right certificates for Samsung's apps which is definitely not the case with AOSP or CM ROMs
I was just wondering if some people had found workarounds
Touchdown? It's not gonna happen the application is bulky and ugly...
Thanks anyway
But there is some hope...
Unfortunately not yet for exchange accounts

Its not even about certificates more so than the whole touchwiz framework that needs to be there. If you are just after two pane email.for your gmail, run 160-182 dpi and set browser for ipad and you will get the gmail ipad site. On the other hand, Touchdown is not ugly once you fiddle with it but is the only working EWS client next to ICS I believe, unless you want Good for Enterprise (shutters at the thought).
Lemme know what you end up with.

Already using Good Enterprise for my Work email on my tab. It's not bad actually but eats a lot of battery
I am not looking for an app for GMail, but my personal exchange email. It looks like the one tat messes the least with your overall Android experience is Enhanced Email (And it does support Exchange 2010 accounts). Only downside is it doesn't seem to add any proprietary calendar and to be honest the default Android calendar is relly... ugly... (And not very practical)
Forget about Enhanced Email... It looked interesting from everything I read... BUT I tried the eval app. It resets all the sync emails every time I get over a few days emails... (Could be an issue with the trial version though, but if you make a trial version, you make it good....)
Besides it doesn't allow you to input from your device more than the name, number and email of a contact. Forget about birthdays, etc...
The developer seems reactive but it'snot going to be enough. Aaah I miss my Samsung's email client !!!
So, not I wont get this and I may very well stay on the stock app even though it misses pinch and zoom as well as search...
I hope ICS will be better. Anyway K9 is getting close to a good working solution for Exchange 2010 so I will probably wait until then..
Now I am using MIUI rom but missing Samsung stock email app. I tried pasting apk and odex to system folder but it is not working. Is there any way to get this application on miui. I tried. Different market mail like k9, Maildroid bit nothing comes close to samsung mail app

If you follow my link above you will find a version of Samsung's app hat installs on MIUI but is a bit buggy (Will not easily allow to attach something to the email and will not support Exchange accounts)

What rom? Connecting via Wi-fi or through cell carrier internet?

I had the same error. Mine worked for a month and stopped after a new rom flash and hasn't worked since even after i went back to stock. You have to set up your Yahoo account manually with the default email app.

jumping from the X2 forum because I've got the same problem after a nand gone wrong and a factory reset and I found this in search.
This used to work fine, I'm not satisfied setting up the email manually because I also want the contact sync functionality that previously worked.

I've had the same issues.
Good luck on finding a fix.
I got the same problem, and so does my wife (who has not messed with her phone nearly as much as I)... So, I don't think it's a ROM issue. I think it's possibly the outdated Yahoo authenticator on our phones... The Yahoo Mail app from the Play Store works though..

It has nothing to do with which ROM you are on, as I am running stock 2.3.6 (rooted).
The Yahoo!Mail app does work. I had to delete it again because it eats my battery.
You're not alone. Before I rooted, I did a factory reset to quickly rid my phone of a bunch of junk apps and afterward during setup the native email client wouldn't allow my adding Yahoo! email... said same thing, "cannot add account please try again later".
Called Yahoo! tech support, Moto, etc. Nothing works. So, I'm using MailDroid from the Market. Not a bad app but I don't like how I can't change font sizes within the app like I could with the native android client.
C'es la vie, right?
well I can tell you guys that its not the conduit, because it was working native less than 1 week ago for me until a recent wipe/flash. It must just be the setup. I'm temped to SBF back a version or two someday when I have time.
I could do without the contact sync, but I liked how it showed the Y! icon notification for the yahoo acct and other notifications for other accounts.

I liked the fact you could change font sizes in compositions and replies, as well as email sigs. Resorted to MailDroid because I like black UI along with my rom/theming.
I heard that Yahoo! changed their security settings to not allow for a non SSL devices to connect to their servers, tried manual account setup and still nothing. I'm beginning to think AT&T, Motorubbish, and Yahoo! are all out to get us!

this works for me
•Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
•Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
•Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
•Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
•Username: full email address (for example, [email protected], not just username)
•Password: the password you login to Yahoo! with.
although I'm not entirely satisfied with the workaround. I liked the special notifier icon with the full account sync that was JUST working for me until this recent flash.

This is for the generic 'Email' option in "Add Accounts", right? I'll try this out.
Wait, just looked in Settings/Add Account, and there's no red Email stamp like with 2.3.5/6 -perhaps because I'm on Lithium v1.2.1?

Yes it does. Just download the files to your phone, rename the current files in System/app to Email.apk.bak and Exchange2.apk.bak. Copy these new files to System/app and rename them to Email.apk and Exchange2.apk, then set permissions to 644 or rw-r-r. Then reboot. Solid Explorer works great for doing all of this directly on the phone.
For some reason now when I go to add account, there are 3 options for Corporate, but they all do the same thing. Other than that it works like a champ with security disabled. I tried the Xposed modules but couldn't get any of them to work, this worked first try.
Weird. I tried that exactly and couldn't get it to work. The email app didn't show up. I'll give it another shot.
Edit. Tried it again and it still didn't work. Not sure why.
I'll give it a try!

Try Enhanced Email instead of stock mail app.. it has saved my life: company mail/ calendar sync with native(!!) agenda -w/o the pain of company policy restrictions..
Mail wise also works with built in exchange security bypass. But it's in beta. Who knows how much they'll charge for it when beta ends and if the exchange bypass will remain.

It still says device admin still require a PIN. I can, of course, go to device admin and disable Email there, but that beats the purpose, no?
