App Idea - Left Hand Detect - Reduce Signal - Android Apps and Games

Obviously, this is just to poke fun at Apple users. Who could write an app that either detects when in left hand, to left ear (so maybe volume button side is pointing down slightly) or just pretends to detect when your holding your phone left handed.
Then you need to be able to simulate the signal bars dropping down 2 or 3
Possible?

there is an app for that :
see :
apps.doubletwist.com/iPhone-4-Service-Emulator/4903231386011124569

It just freeze and then i have to rewrite my PIN so it doesn't work
Or does it?

[App In Progress] Touchfree Navigation using sensors!!

Everyone in this forum (well there are exceptions) and using HD2 have issues with hard buttons, including myself, while working my Proximity Screen Off app, I thought of a completely new way of navigation for HD2!! How about using combination of sensors??
1) Shake to go back to home
2) If proximity sensor blocked less than a second go Back
3) If proximity sensor blocked less than 2-3 seconds and more than 1 second trigger
menu.
4) If proximity sensor blocked more than 3 seconds launch search
Haven't started on this yet, I need to know if this community really needs an app like this. Also please share your ideas!!!
I think it would be awesome, especially to show off
Might cause problems if the screen accidentally comes on while in your pocket.
Otherwise I like the concept.
Seems like that could have a lot of flaws, because wat if the sensor get blocked by accident while navigating through traffic

Mmmm i dunno i think the seconds issue is a bit difficult bcz not everyone is able to guess how many seconds passed everytime
!
I guess that a navigation based on acceleration values and sensors is a good idea:
I mean say:
1) Shake to go back to home (<--- ur idea excellent)
2) If proximity sensor blocked then trigger menu
3) Positive or negative values of acceleration along Z (vertically) determines going up and down
4) Positive or negative values of acceleration along X (horizontally) determines navigating left or right
I don't know if that can be done and how It's just an idea
Thanks for your effort
I like the shake idea using the g sensor, but the proximity sensor isn't really in an area that is easily accessible with your finger

mm... interesting idea
but i'm not sure it will be very useful though... for me
I've not had any problems with my hard keys so not sure that this would do it for me.
However I have always thought that albums (photo and music) should go through the pictures/album covers if your device was tilted to the left or right.
On second reading you're not talking about adding this feature to apps are you, just to have some new menu and home ideas!!
is it posible to use gesture on gsensor? like moving your handset in circle to "search", move your phone from right to left to go "back"?
honestly I think this would be impractical and a waste of time.
I like the idea of G Sensor doing things though, like maybe shake to launch an app or an address to map to or something like that.
If you can solve all the technicalities, I believe this would be awesome. I guess the software would have to have a value of:
Locked screen = normal proximity sensor
More than 5 seconds blocked plus angle = call = screen off
On the other hand, what about shake the phone and a bar with soft buttons comes up on the bottom of the screen covering the launcher and not the icons, shake or press a swipe the bar and the bar goes off.
Wish I knew programming.
What about shake phone to wake up?
Not unlock but just wake up as is this is the most used action which involves hardware keys.

so your phone is turning on in your pocket when you walk? not good
i'd say do it, but that way that blocking proximity for a tiny bit (very short, like just swype over with hand)) will bring up menu such as Vol +- (overlayed over any app) and it contains back, menu search etc...any block longer will be overlooked(so it's not doing if u sheild ur phone from sunlight or hide it in school(lol)
for waking up u can already use all buttons so shift them.
Nice idea.
I think gestures on screen with fingers are better.(if it's possible)
Like: Move with 2 fingers from right to left would be the same as a click on the "back button".
Edit:
Otherwise... i think there are some Apps who have some of these gestures... There might be problems.. :/
Please work on an app for this. That would be awesome. The proximity app is is so useful too
Or maybe just implement most used or just one or two functions like search, back, menu, etc.
Or even better let it be user defineable.

Not a bad idea...it certainly would be in invention worthy of the name.
And it would also make our lovely HD2s super marvelous!!!!!.......atleast for showing off!!
App Button Savior has all of it. It is faster than using the proximity.
1. This would surely be usefull if you are in a car and must navigate through the menu/programm.
(button savior icons are too small for this if you are in a car)
usefull for back/forward/start programm like google voice etc etc.
2. Option automatic activate the app if the phone is hooked to micro usb.

[Q] [q] soft keyboard at top of screen

Hello XDA-ers.
I have a Moto Atrix MB860 and I can never really find a comfortable way to hold the phone which allows me to single-handedly thumb navigate and type like I could on my old HTC Vogue. I think the issue (and it's the same for most of the candy-bar smartphones) is that the menu buttons and keyboard live at the bottom of the screen, which occupies most of the phone's length. When I grip the phone high enough so that it's not at risk of falling out of my hand, my thumb can't comfortably reach down to the bottom of the screen. If I turn the phone upside down - so the business end is near my fingers instead of the heel of my hand - I can reach the menu buttons AND the soft keyboard quite easily. The only problems with this are that everything is upside-down on the screen and the hard buttons, etc. are in the wrong place. Does anyone know of an alternate keyboard, or a way to configure an existing keyboard so that it lives at the top of the screen instead of the bottom? I can't imagine that there isn't a single implementation either by a third-party or by a handset manufacturer.
Thanks.

question about touchscreens and user input

I noticed in many programs that when you interact with the touchscreen it gets locked out of getting touched in other places. For example......... in the unblock parked car game you move a car by touching and sliding it... and while you are slidig it any input anywhere else on the screen is blocked out. Is that because instead of programming the touch from scratch the app author is using some premade gesture? Is it possible to have the touchscreen open to input even while it's being touched somewhere?
case example: suppose I have a drawing application. I want a virtual button in the corner and when I press and hold that button down touching the screen goes into erase mode instead of draw mode. Would that be possible? Would holding down the virtual button block the input on the rest of the screen so you couldn't erase? Or is this possible?
It is possible as long as you know how to code it.

Power button too far for left hander

I have recently switched to Nexus5. I am left handed so most of the time I have the phone in my left hand. When using it with one hand it is impossible to reach the power button and to wake up the phone just after taking it from my pocket.
Is it possible somehow to wake it up in another method...?
1. for example with an app or customROM that modifies the phone so that it wakes up from the push (or double push) of either of the volume buttons).
2. if this is not possible then in the same method as Nokia N9 (tapping screen)...? Although I don't like this method as the screen should be constantly on then...
I did find some apps from app store, but most of them seemed to reduce battery life (the app needs to run in background when the phone is sleep or something), and the one that didnt reduce did not work.

This can be set up to use the proximity sensor and phone orientation to turn your screen on/off. Can be glitchy if you don't set it up properly to match your usage. I don't find it uses much battery.

I'm left handed also. Left handed people have to learn how to live in a world designed for right handed people. Put in your right pocket.
Yep volume wake is a thing. Some ROMs have it. I think gravitybox xposed module also
I'm right handed but use my phone entirely left handed. I don't really have an issue with the power button even with my stubby fingers.
Maybe I'm used to it after so long

Weird, guess I am ambidextrous when it comes to phone usage. I usually keep my phone in my left pocket and can take it out and wake it up quickly. I also use it mostly with my left hand. Put it in your pocket upside down (or top first, might be a jacket pocket) an push power with your index finger.
For apps like that to work they must be running in the background, even during sleep. If they were not running how could they work?
Anyway, I think gravity box does have something like that.
Another possibility would to use a kernel with double tap to wake as well. However, do note that if you choose to go down this road, there could be some battery drain because of it but it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

What kind of baby hands do you have? Lol. I'm left handed and I can touch the other side of the screen (over the power button) with minimal effort, and my hands are by no means large.

I'm left handed. On most custom roms, volume buttons wake the phone. I use that. I also find myself kinda sliding my hand up the phone & using my index finger to use the power button. I'm a girl, I have small hands. Regardless, it's pretty much something to deal with. Nexus or nothing for me!
Ambidextrous and I press it fine with either hand. My hands are smaller than most if anything.
Acdisplay... Install it and enable active mode... The screen turns on with the time every time there is a sudden movement.. You don't have to press any button.. Not much of a battery hog.. Less than. 2‰

Disabling areas of my touchscreen?

Hey guys
I recently dropped my phone and cracked the top right corner of the screen and as a result, a triangle shaped corner of the touchscreen doesn't work anymore. This isn't really a problem in itself, but the phone randomly presses that area of the phone without me touching it, which makes it hard to do things like text (as it's constantly tapping that dead corner of the screen and exiting apps etc).
I did a bit of research and I know Iphones have a feature called guided access that disables areas of the screen (like the notification area etc. to stop children from messing around with phones when playing games) and I was hoping to find a similar app to do the same to disable this corner, but I haven't been able to find any. There's only apps like surelock that can disable the whole screen, but not specific areas of it.
Does anyone know of an app I can use to do this, or perhaps another way to just disable this section of my screen? I was also looking into changing the resolution to use a smaller area of the physical screen but am not sure that's possible.
Thanks!
