hello,
im not sure if anyone found this to be a problem, but i would love to have a keyboard with a send button in landscape mode without having to hide keyboard
i have found that if you flip the phone back to it's normal position, the keyboard goes back to its normal self with a send button. i've been doing that lately instead of hiding the keyboard.
yeah i was just wondering if there was something that didnt involve the hide/turning phone. just type and send.
+1 I would like to know about this too. Maybe someone can do a IME mod

the htc ime mod can do this in the stock messaging app, theres an option to use the enter key as send. OR you can disable the fullscreen l;landscape all together so that you still see the text field with the send button next to it.
I find it easiest to simply hit the hard back button which hides the keyboard. Unfortunately I do like using paragraphs in my posts too much to want my return key changed to a send key.

AFAIK the htc ime mod only assigns the return key to send while using the stock messaging app. It should not affect your need for using paragraphs while using any other app.
Yes, this would be a good mod. If you could fit a "Send" key somewhere on the keyboard

did somebody know of a virtual/touch keyboard that have the arrow keys in the basic layout for the captivate?? like a hardware keyboard?? in the original and first screen not in some hide menu??? i think the evo4 have it, could it be port to captivate??
Its not hidden away in the menus. just press and hold the 123 key and they pop right up. There are a lot of features in the captivate that work this way.

awesome! i was starting to get annoyed at my fat fingers for not being able to go to my misspelled words! arrows make it much easier
thanks!
migsims, thanks for the tip, but thats what i call a hiden menu (maybe im incorrect) what i want is a keyboard that has the arrows in the basic layout, in the first page
Is there an equivalent way to bring up these arrow keys using the swype keyboard?

Freakin' sweet! I've been wanting this for a long time. I really love Swype for it's layout and special character positions, but never use the sliding feature.
Still looking for an APK that will enable the mic on 2.1. I bricked going to 2.2 and I'm hesitant to move to 2.2 until Clockwork is fully functional...
That seems to only be for the samsung default keyboard (I'll assume swype too) because when I press and hold the ?123 key, I get a popup menu for the Android keyboard (keyboard settings and input method). Or is as usual that I'm missing something?
Any insight?

Does anybody have an idea how to get the arrow keys on the android keyboard? The holding of the ...123 key doesn't seem to work for this keyboard?
Thanks.
You don't need it on FroYo. There's a blue teardrop shaped handle to scrub text. It pops up once you tap in the text field.

...and if one isn't on Froyo yet? I can't imagine the arrows aren't there in eclair.
Thoughts?

arrows are in eclair, blue teardrop thingy isnt.
in swype slide from the "swype" key (the one with the blue s on it in the lowwer left) to the "sym" key directly to the right of it.
in samsung keyboard... hell i dont rememer it's not there in froyo. someone else can answer that.
in stock android you dont have arrows. sorry but that keyboard is useless anyway, no multi touch means typing is slowwwwww.
now i wonder if the droid x keyboard has arrows it's fully touch screen.. i have used it and find it less natural to type on, just not my preference, it's a good keyboard, a bit better than the samsung one in functioality but my fingers just miss the key, go figure....
Other reasons for wanting arrows would be for ssh and terminals

I picked up this keyboard when it was free on the Amazon App Store a while back. It's awesome! You have several different input options:
tap-type
trace (like Swype)
voice (great recognition!)
write (like a stylus)
I use the voice method most, but all of them work really well. And unlike a lot of other aftermarket keyboards, this one has numbers and special characters on long-press (they're shown above the letters).
The only thing I'm missing coming from the stock HTC Sense keyboard is the directional buttons for moving the cursor around text fields - without a trackball, it's kind of a pain to move around by touching. At least this keyboard has a 'pointer' you can drag around, which makes it a little easier.
Any other great keyboards out there?
I'd like a keyboard I could fully customize. I'd love to be able to remove the buttons that I never use and just get in the way (voice button, language button, etc).
I'd also like to force the predictive text to pick the words I want by default. Typing "aren't" always tries to replace it with "seen" grrrr.

Try Gingerbread keyboard. It auto corrects. Plus u can add ur own custom words like cud, wud, etc.
I also got it free from Amazon and have to agree flex t9 is pretty awesome

SwiftKey X is a good one to use too. There's a free beta in the market, and by far the best keyboard I've used

The arrow keys on Gingerbread are hidden but can be brought in by just dragging the spacebar up and hidden by dragging it down, which I like since I hardly use them but still need them every once in a while
Is there a way to make the keyboard default to FlexT9 or Swiftkey or whatever you have installed? It's kind of annoying to have to set it up every time I restart the phone.
Is this possible? I really like the stock texting app, but I am unable to have a text sent without having to click on the touchscreen. Every other app in the world allows you to hit enter to send, but this one gives a new line. In a text. Which is pointless.
Any help would be great.
Go into settings in the stock app there's a option to send with enter click it

Hmm, I've gone into the settings again, and see no option for it. I am running stock KD1 with the stock messaging app. In the new message (aka universal composer) screen, settings only lets me choose which services to show. In the all messages screen, settings gives me a bunch storage and options, but none are related.
I am familiar with the plain vanilla android messenger app's setting for send on enter, but the sidekick I got doesn't have that.
And you have a different Rom listed on your signature. Could that have a different messaging app than me?
I understould wrong I thought u ment aosp messingin yes the stock sidekick messenging dosent allow it

Personally I prefer it this way, after having sent piles of half-finished texts from my G1 while trying to backspace or go for a letter. It's nearly impossible to send a text by accident now.
Where did Menu + M go? It should have been included.

Don't know how helpful it is, but from what I can tell, the smiley button is dependent on how the application calls Swype (or whatever input you have selected).
I have two SMS apps, one of which defaults to single-line entry, the other is the stock one.
The stock app has the enter key, the app with single line entry has the smiley button. I haven't been able to figure out how to force one mode or the other...

Does anyone know if u are able to reprogram the search button as multitasking? If not is anyone here capable and willing to reprogram it for some of us who I'll use it because I rarely touch the search button. Anyone else would like this except for me? Btw I'm running eagesblood, Thanks in advance
I second that request. That'd be way more useful than the search button
Do you mean the recently used/running task list? That's accessed by pressing home one the first home screen.

I would love this. Seem to remember CM7 having custom application launching for touch and hold search button so it might be a feature that just hasn't been implemented yet.
I have seen customizable keyboard modifications for devices with physical keyboards in order to remap some of the less useful keys to something worth while. When I have more time I may try to dig it up and see how complicated it is. Anyone care to tackle this? I probably don't have the knowledge to complete.

I know u can long press home but that is time consuming sort of in a way and I get annoyed by doing it.

You can customize the home key in cm9 like you can customize the search key in cm7. You need to install Apex launcher. It have a lot of features you would like. This launcher do everything like cm7. Try it out.

Can you just remap it with Button remapper or Tasker?

Button remapper won't work because it doesn't remap the long press stuff like multitasking.
