A windows mobile device
I´m not into android really.......
Hmm u think that Windows Mobile 6.5.X is better then the Android 2.2 Froyo???
What do u say about the Google Nexus One,he get the Froyo update....is that a good replacement for the HD 2??

Dont get the Nexus one right now. You're paying way too much for a phone that is "commercially outdated" in many respects. What you do get though, is the massive userbase that is available here in XDA. If you think that alone is worth the retail tag, then by all means, go for it.
Also, I've heard the Pentile AMOLED screen is crap on it. Hence why I suggested the original Galaxy S which has a SUPER AMOLED screen.
Cheers.

The thing is that i change my cell phones evry 6 months,im a freak about phones,i have the Lg Arena,iPhone 3g,3gs,then a Hero and now Leo,all in 2 years...the nexus have alredy the froyo update but the galaxy S will get the update late in this year,am i right? But the thing is that the Droid X will be released this month too...that is a quietly brilliant phone and will serve froyo...and one more question..if i buy an HTC Evo on ebay...does it work on 3g here in my country...(Croatia)???
Come on guys...is not a small decision for me! Please share your oppinions...help me to chose the best smartphone on the market!
I don't see why it matters. If you change your phone every 6 months, it should be irrelevant what you get now. People already told you their suggestions, what else do you want? I'm sure you're not looking for an e-mother to make the decision for you, right?
Just pick a phone, use it for 6 months, and be gone with it.
P.S. There is no such thing as the "best smartphone". So stop trying to choose one based on that non-existent criteria. Pick whichever you like.

Honestly I see Android as a fun/young/immature/promising OS, played with it and got bored quickly...
But is not for me (at least for now) I am quite happy with WM with all it´s pros and cons, I think as a very stable/business/experienced OS

Completely agree, the best phone is the phone you have!
Go try the Nexus...you won't be bored and the screen is awesome!
Ok thx guys...i see that im booring to you guys so the last question ... Keep the HD2 or buy the NEXUS OR DESIRE ???
Personally I would keep the leo at least till Christmas. Theres gonna be a lot of killer phones coming out for the holidays that will be amazing. Right now your basically just moving around laterally looking at numerous versions of the same phone. The HD2 chef's just cracked the linux/android kernal so things are starting to happen with the HD2. I'd say with in a month or two we will see a decent version of android on it. So in my humble opinion stick with the HD2 till something truely better comes out. Right now they are all basically the same phone with a different sticker.

ok so this is another help me decide post sorry but i really would like some advice from some knowledgable people. heres my situation, i currently have an iphone4 which i just bought and will be taking back(or selling) though i do like it but it is very slow on 2g slower than my kaiser 8925(tilt), i dont get 3g where i live. i am very interested in the intl version of the galaxy s, i was thinking of selling the iphone and buying the intl. galaxy s with the forward camera, led flash and flash support. BUT ive read some cons about the galaxy including the gps being crap. i know 2.2 is coming soon hopefully it will fix it.
also to complicate my situation a little more my contract is up sept. now if i keep or sell the iphone i will have a new 2 yr contract. i would love to be out of my contract so i have been thinking of buying a tmobile hd2 for my att, since i dont get 3g it doesnt really matter that it wont work on 3g plus i seen there was a way to change something in the network settings to make the hd2 much faster on 2g, dont know if that works or not.
i geuss what i want to know is how is the hd2? i havent done much research on it, just read you can run android on it, that sounds nice. how well does that work? does it fix the freezing problems that i read were so common in the beginning? how is the gps? thats very important to me! lastly what do you guys think? keep new contract and get galaxy s or be free from contract and get an hd2 for less money and wait till they fix the iphone or samsung fixes galaxy s? sorry so long, thanks guys.
I'm tired and will keep it short.
Galaxy S.
Leo would be my choice
Wm is too laggy go for the Galaxy! I'm using it rightno now and its awesome! No offense orb

Yeah I figured wm would be slow even on the hd2 but what about with android how is it then? I really want the galaxy s but I can't deal with no gps, that's a deal breaker for me, anybody been able to make it work reliably?

@both: WM could be a bit slow but now I´m using Android Froyo on my Leo!
Can you do that on a galaxy?
Also HTC is much better design and quality
I think if you will pay less and without a contract, then the HD2 is your choice.
Just go the HD2 section here in the forum, and you'll see lots a lots of new rom to chose from.
With this handset you will have the best of both worlds (WM and AD). Remember that Windows Mobile is still a BIG player in the mobile world. There are tons of applications, not mentioned that you have a lot GPS applications to choose from.
For me WMobile it's a world that I can't live without yet, and HD2 has it all!
Desire Z,
Evo 4g,
Desire HD,
Dell Streak,
Samsung Galaxy S.
Or should I wait for any November releases ?

Id say with for the Nexus 2 (or Nexus S whatever its called)
I feel its going to have the best of both worlds, Samsung Galaxy S hardware combined with stock 2.3 Gingerbread.

keeping my fingers crossed It should be what ppl are speculating.
What would be priced at anyways ? around $600 ?
If that doesnt happen.. I might go for desire z(for keyboard .. not sure )... Are u facing any hinge problems ? Hows the battery life ? My usage is extensive
Wait for november 8th (acorrding to gsmarena) the nexus s or nexus 2 (what ever you would like to call it) is hopefully going to be anounced.
If that doesnt happen, any of those on your list would make you a very happy man.

If i had another choice over my desire hd it would be the desire z only for keyboard function. either way the dhd handset is sublime and when totally permanently rooted i think its gonna be my fave new toy since my first ever game boy back in the day lol ;P
How much of difference is having a hardware keboard with 3.7 inch and virtual keyboard with 4.3 inch gonna make ? I m confused. Desire Z's battery life should be definitely better than that of DHD's. I m too confused over these two.
Go with a Galaxy S phone
Super nice 4 inch screen, easy to use, the best phone I've had
all these people with their gs phones, go with the evo, or the desire z
personally i have an evo and a galaxy s and i dont care how saturated the colours are, all you will see is pixels all over the place, the evo you wont, and its one of the busiest dev forums on here, youll be sure to gingerbread before any of those others if it isnt realed straight to them, and if it is, youll still probably have it soon after.
I m pretty sure if not expected Nexus 2 i might end up DHD or DZ .. but its gonna be tough choice between keyboard vs screen size ..
I'll choose the last Samsung Galaxy ,I'm using a Samsung,I think it's OK.
Hi , having been an avid HTC user a while back, rom changing etc, I got an iphone and have used that since. I once went back to a HTC touch pro 2 but didnt like it so ended up getting an Iphone 4 on release. Since then I still have a longing for HTC so am wondering whether to get another? I want to get away from the iphone to tinker with HTC again but cannot decide, what do you guys think?
I was looking at a desire Z because I want a physical keyboard so am hoping to swap for my Iphone 4.
My phone is in as new condition with box and accessories bought from Apple so is unlocked to all networks.
Let me know if interested, cheers. Stu.
Just looked at this lol
http://forum.iphone-developers.com/general-discussion/541-iphone-htc-desire-z-swap.html
I got a Z today, and I must say it's an amazing phone
Of course hTC Desire Z!!!
Stick with HTC
This should be self-explanatory, Desire Z FTW!
HTC Mogul (old)> iPhone (any model)
i had the same choice here in canada, went with the desire z and no regrets so far. though i briefly used swype on my friend's captivate and it was definitely impressive and with a larger screen thats nice... but no flash on the camera is a downer. iphone... meh
Isn't it pretty dumb to ask a question like that here at XDA? The people here will, of course, vote for the HTC. Looking for Android fanboys? Well, XDA is the place. You won't get a single objective answer here.
That's like asking the guys at Mercedes if you should get an Audi. The answer won't surprise you.
No no no, bazooka, I stated that I had HTC touch pro 2 previously and didnt like it. I just wanted a subjective view if things had improved since then.
Oh, i see
The answer is yes. HTC has improved since the Touch Pro 2. Check out some videos on YouTube or something, or take a HTC out for a spin. HTC and Android matches perfectly, and HTC has improved big time the last year(s).
I love my Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) that I just picked up, but they keyboard probably isn't for me. I think I would prefer an HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4G) instead.

Thanks Bazooka, I looked around and they do look better on video, so hopefully will get some interest for my iphone and go back to the good old days of rom flashing etc.
Was'nt too sure about the android OS , but seems to have come on a lot with the apps growing and growing.
I love the physical keyboards, had a wizard first off and had others all with keyboards.
Just something I am comfortable with .

Android is great, but IMO it's not "there yet". Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it can get better, and it will.

Haha! Nice job!
Ok so im in a bit of a pickle... if you could call it that.
My problem... is that ive been given the green light to upgrade my phone.... But unfortunately i have only a few to choose from (im not paying)
They include;
- Iphone 4 (not s)
- Gal x2
- N9
- Arc S
- Desire s
- Evo 3d
Now unfortunately the other half will be using it from time to time and i wont be able to run a custom rom.. So im after the phone which would suite my needs best strait out of the box.
I go days without making a call but am easily a 30 txt per day txter. So it would have to have good sms support.
Has to be able to perform well with multitasking and have good app support (N9?lol)
Would love to stick with android but could settle for iOS/Nokia
8MP Camera would be awesome, although i dont take many photos it would be a great thing to have.
4 inch screen+
Thanks if anyone would be able to help, ive tried many comparison websites but havnt been able to find one with indepth hands on knowledge... Thanks
if i were you, i would pick evo 3d, evo 3d in spec is great, n plus custom roms!!
I used Desire S before. Not a bad phone. Gave it to my nephew.
I 2nd the Evo 3G aswell.
EVO3D .
What is Gal X2? Galaxy SII or Optimus 2X?
If it is a GSII get it. It is one of the best android phones ever released, and will probably have a lot of custom roms, after all it is the best selling android phone ever.
Otherwise, get the N9. it will be getting Alien Dalvik which will allow him to run android apps and is a very very sexy device.
Honestly since you're not modding it or anything I'd go with the iPhone 4. If you were gonna go with custom rooms then I'd go with the 3d. I love my 3vo haha

I would say EVO 3D or GSII
I'm not too sure how good the Evo 3d is, but I love the original Evo
Galaxy S2 runs better on stock ROM vs 3D Evo
I think Nokia N9 or iphone 4 will suite u the best. open box and use it without need to flash or anything.

Hi all,
My father got my Desire for quite some time now and he's very happy with it. But now he is possible to extend his contract and want a new phone with it.
But there is one problem: he doesnt want a larger screen but he also wants a "better" phone. I cant remember any phone with better specs then the Desire S with this screen size, does anyone of you guys know what could be the best phone for him?
The Galaxy Nexus is too big for him but i said its a good one, but he thinks its too big
Can anyone advice me to advice him ?
Thanks in advance!

Tell him to hang on. There's no point him upgrading now. The Desire S IS approaching a year old now.
Just wait till Feb, at MWC, and the successor to the Desire S may he likely to come out.
IMO, its not much of a significant upgrade from the Desire
What is he finding wrong with it? What parts font satisfy him?
Perhaps you could introduce him to the rooting/custom ROM world, and it will improve his experience on his Desire while he still currently owns it
Hopefully that will keep him happy for a few months before upgrading

Nice answer! Thx for ur advice. He is running the virtous unity rom atm so he is already running a custom rom.
Actually there is nothing that he isnt satisfied about. But now he can upgrade his contract and was curious for a new phone.
Maybe he can get a new phone for my mom, who got the original Desire now she finds that one a little bit too slow so what could be a good upgrade for her?
Anyway i will tell my dad to keep his Desire S for quite some time
Thx for ur nice advice!

that is a really nice idea! I got a ASUS Transformer and he likes it
Maybe he wants to have one too!
But there is maybe one problem. Is it possible to get a Tab instead of a Phone with a Phone contract? (in The Netherlands) I've never seen that, so that's the question if its possible :O
It would be very nice for him!
If the possibilities are there I think i would advice him the 8,9 Tab of Samsung, what do you think?
I guess the Transformer Prime is a bit overkill for him (+ i will get jealous on him :$)
Thanks for your answer again, you are really helpful man!
Greets Patrick
No problem mate
I'm glad to help people as long as they show the appreciation like you do
Yeah, there are several great Android Tablets in the market At the moment.
I can't comment on the new 8.9 Galaxy Tab.
I currently have the old 7" Galaxy Tab. And it can make phone calls.
However. There is now a newer 7.0 plus galaxy tab (can make calls too) and has similoar top end specs as your transformer (dual core etc)
Perhaps you could consider that?
Or even the newer 7.7" galaxy tan which may be released some time soon!

I got that one, but the problem is that my dad doesn't want a bigger phone. Well not big like the SII.
Thats why i am trying to get some more info about other phones with almost the same size as the Desire S.
If he didn't care about a bigger phone, i would suggest him the Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy SII idd.
Thanx anyway for your input.
HTC EVO 3d??
If you want to stick with HTC (or Samsung), then maybe you'd want to wait until MWC at the end of Feb. Both company didn't announce any new phones at CES.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed at that. All HTC banged on about was the Titan 2, which is a Windows Mobile phone (washes mouth out with soap).
Not sure what my next one will be. Starting to loose faith in HTC (from a build quality and support point of view) and see no real need for dual/quad cores at all yet. Still haven't found the limits of my single core DS. I don't do any HD gaming. Have Xbox for that.
Now that Google own Motorola, will be interesting to see if the next Nexus is in their camp. As long as there are no silly locked down bootloaders that is.
For the first time I can remember, there are no devices on the horizon that are making me start thinking about saving up for an upgrade. Long live the DS!

Not only that, the Titan isnt worthty of '2'.
Its EXACTLY the same, except the '2' has a 16mp camera, and the original only 8mp.
IMO. I think HTC are cheaping out, with support and hardware
That's why they lost profits last Q4
