Is there anyway to modify the "Sprint" on the lockscreen or in the notification area? I know the Droid can change theirs by editing eri.xml in a hex editor but I don't see any option for it.
Ideas?
It is most certainly possible

Apparently, I lack the intelligence required to learn anything new. I apologize for wasting your precious time in which you had to type a response that was useless to the community in general.
Instead I will look at documentation for QPST and use my 'lack' of intelligence to find other solutions online. When I do find such a solution, I will be sure to share it with the community who I personally believe has the mental acuity (not to mention the drive) to learn something new.
Thank you very much for your time and effort.
I would test this out now but i have to do this when i get home.....somebody test this and report back here if they can
Here is a simple method, Download the HTC Diag Drivers, search for them.
Download CDMAWS from www.cdma-ware.com
Just download the demo.
Go to the phone dial ##Diag#, send. This enters DIAG mode, install the drivers. *Note the comport. You might have to change this so search on how to change comport numbers.
Launch the demo of CDMAWS, select correct comport, go to security, read SPC, Send SPC.
Then go to the NAM Tab and where it says BANNER, write what you want to appear. Go back to Main Tab click mode reset, then disconnect.

The reason I won't share it is not because I'm an asshole as mentioned earlier, it's because it's very easy to screw up your phone in QPST and a nandroid backup won't fix it. It's one of those things that you only mess with if you know what you're doing.

Sorry for the delay everyone but as I promised here is a tutorial to get cricket working on the EVO! Using the Jiminy (for Cricket) rom.
The Jiminy rom is the best for cricket because it has a modified MMS.apk along with alot of other things to make it easier for us! Thanks deathsled
Okay, I don’t have time right now to do a full tutorial
But you need to have your evo Rooted: http://unrevoked.com/#evo
You also need to install Jiminy (for Cricket): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784776
You also need :
CD MA WORKSHOP. I cant provide a link so find it on google
QPST 2.7_355: http://www.mediafire.com/?giv1y4qd02k6y63
HTC DIAG Drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?h83292u2f3jdpo4
MSL Reader: Its in the market – here is apk tho: http://www.mediafire.com/?5kocsnsw45lbhl1

4.Click the “security” tab under SPC type in your MSL code and click SPC> Send It should say Phone unlocked or something.

Kind of. Motorola is a little different, The big differences are the APNs would have to be imported differently and You would have to flash NV items to get 3G. Oh and you have to use HW_VSP to get it in to cdma ws or qpst. But it is basically the same. I know how to do droid X's of you need help
I am getting a droid 2 global so I will make a tutorial for Motorola devices next.
as as far as HTC devices running Sense this will be pretty much the same.
Hope this helps

Ok I followed your instructions to the letter and I cant get any internet... My 3g icon will flash for a second and that is it...
any help?
i get an error box after i do everything, box is titled NV write errors, under nv item it says "NV_UE_IMEI_I" and uder status it says "NV_READONLY_S" i dial *228 and it goes to cricket but doesnt activate phone, do i need to call CS to add esn change? everything seemed smooth until then. help will be appreciated.
Isn't the Cricket, MCC=310 and MNC=16? Since you said you work at Cricket.
i do everything as instructed, 3g is there, dial 611 and cricket answers, but the stupid stores cant activate it for me, saying they need a programing code, what are they talking about, can someone please guide me how to activate this thing? thanks

The error is normal. Happens to me but no problem. You need to do an ESN change.
Hey if I was the op I would make clear where the min/msid goes..that is what tripped me up Got it working now though thanks for the tutorial
OK, so i complete to step 16. However, after writing to the phone, it never reboots. Any suggestions? Am i supposed to manually reboot?
So I need to have already signed up with cricket to go through this tutorial? There are several parts in the instructions where you have to put your cricket phone number, so I assume you must have signed up with cricket first, how exactly do I do this? I have to give them my MSL number or something?
Also, will these instructions work using one of the ROMS found here (apparently I can't post links until I've made 8 posts, I'm speaking of some ROMS cooked up ztahoez) ?
Finally, can I use pay-go (as in the pay per day you use plan) with this flashing method?
Thanks for any answers.
Hey If I do this can i flash another cusotm rom and will it still be flashed to Cricket?

i mean yes it will be flashed to cricket because your PRL is for cricket. so essentially yes. but all the web, apps, makret, etc wont be if you flash to a new rom.
There are ways around that tho(that thread will get ya going)

make sure you have a SENSE rom so they can do there stupid thing with the ##codes# otherwise yes just go in an say you wanna do a ESN swap. they will say ok is the phone flashed? then they will ask ARE YOU SURE..you did it so you know it is.
why cant i get the cricket market?
phone works great. no probs except i cant get the cricket market place icon. and thus cannot get the cricket store, back-up, web, etc...
Could this be a flash problem?
i *228 and it says programming successful. *22808 does not work.
right now im running myns warm twopointtwo. unrEVOked3.
was running jiminy v. and had the same problem.
Everything else works fine.
Thanks.

This guide is intended to prevent some adventurous new Galaxy S 4 owner from bricking their brand new phone
DO THIS BEFORE CONNECTING YOUR PHONE TO YOUR COMPUTER FOR THE FIRST TIME
This is also the future home of the collection of kernels, ROMs, Mods, etc that will be in development in the near future (hopefully).
Adam Outler and crew are currently trying to unlock the AT&T Galaxy S 4 bootloader. Please go to their thread and show their THANKS buttons some love.
HOWEVER, DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD UNLESS YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO THEIR R&D!!
READ "The rules" IN THE OP
This method of root was exploited by djrbliss. Please visit the original thread and thank him by any means you see fit.
This is not done through download mode or recovery, so don't worry about any button combos. The phone just needs to powered on and running the way you would normally use it.
First things first. You should begin downloading the files you'll need later on.
Download the latest Samsung USB Drivers and the Root Exploit Executable

Begin installing the Samsung USB Drivers.
It can appear that the installer program isn't doing anything for a while so just be patient.
When the motochopper.zip file finishes downloading
right-click on it and select Extract All...
I usually just leave it at the default location and click Extract
It should finish this fairly quickly. When it does finish, open the motochopper folder in the resulting window. You can now ignore this window until you need it later.
For the sake of efficient use of time, while the drivers are being installed and motochopper.zip is being extracted, you should turn your attention to the phone itself. It needs to be prepared for being connected to your computer for the first time.
USB debugging within Developer options needs to be enabled to use this exploit. There are some that would say that if you don't know how to do this, you shouldn't be in the development forums. To them I say, "Everyone had to learn from somewhere. WHY NOT HERE??"
To enable Developer options, open Settings and click on the "More" tab, then "About device". Mine shows where Developer options will be after doing this.
Near the bottom is an entry called "Build number", click on it repeatedly (7 times) until a toast pops up telling you that developer mode is on.
Press the back softkey and click on "Developer options". If you don't see it, you didn't click the "Build number" enough times.
DO NOT CHANGE ANY ENTRIES IN THIS SECTION WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THEY DO FIRST!!
Click on USB debugging
click OK on the "Allow USB debugging" window that pops up.
When the Samsung USB Drivers are finished installing, connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable that came with your phone. Windows Update should start looking for software for your phone immediately as indicated by the popup window that appears at the bottom-right of your screen when you have your phone connected to the computer. You can click on this window to watch it's progress, or simply wait for the next one telling you that your device is ready to use.
After you see this dialog, go back to the folder that opened when you extracted motochopper.zip and double-click on the file named run.bat
and click Run on the dialog window that pops up.
when the command line window appears, press enter to begin rooting your phone.
A dialog window will appear on your phone asking you for permission to let ADB execute commands. Click OK.
when the rooting process finishes, press enter to reboot the phone and close the command line window.
**YOUR PHONE IS NOW ROOTED AND YOU CAN USE APPS THAT REQUIRE ROOT**

Agreed - except for "enabling Developer options and USB Debugging" which I thought might be good in the OP of the "real" thread (and frankly is not called out well in this OP), this doesn't seem to add anything.
No need to clutter the Development thread with guides, thats what General is for. I'm sure this will help someone but its still in the wrong section unless you have a kernel or rom to post.
Thread moved, post in accordance with XDA rules, thanks and enjoy the new phone.

Make sure you extracted the zip. Remove and reinstall device drivers.

Thank you for the fast response. I am using the USB that came with the phone. I have tried multiple USB ports on my computer and have gotten the Motochopper file from 3 different locations. I have downloaded the USB driver from Samsung twice and installed. I even tried 2 different computers. I am at wits end....
I wrote Foxfi to see if this phone is compatible and hope they respond shortly.

Fixed missing ADB connection
Wow, I seemed to have fixed the problem myself by chance. I executed the adb.exe file in the Motochopper folder as a stand alone (a few times in fact) and the next time I connected my phone I got the pop-up to accept and was able to root it! In all the posts I have read, not once has anyone mentioned this. Wow, rooted at last! Thanks!

Something that neither root guide mentions in the OP is that you might also need to disable "Verify apps via USB." It was disabled the first time I rooted, but it was enabled after I did a factory reset and rooted again. If root is failing, see if that option is checked and uncheck it if it is.
Can't attach or post a link, yet, or I'd include a an actual link to a screenshot. URL here: i.imgur.com/Ord8xxj.png

you can unlock in MF3 OTA firmware!! I did it!!
you CAN get the service menu!! I did it.
heres how.
ok so I bought my phone, att galaxy s4 i337, came with mdb or mdl im not sure really..........
I went to take off sha 256 to 0 and it was set like that from shipping...
ok so I didn't read the instructions well and I thought it was already unlocked (I didn't get the other sim card yet to test out the lock).
so OTA MF3 pushed out to me.
I rooted with the pwn sim card hack. worked in MF3 like a charm! a supers. now I have root in MF3.
locked bootloader? NO WORRIES!!!
so my other sim card comes and it isn't unlocked!!!!! @#@$#@
what to do now?
I found a utility on the google play called "Samsung service mode". yep the T-Mobile guys know the file system trick for syste.hiddenmenu=1. its in the file system........ so apparently im lazy and this app does it for you goto the t mobile section to see how to do it in the file system and apk hack.
but it works!!
I NOW HAVE SERVICE MENU BACK IN MF3 OTA!!!!!
ok now that I did that, I went to try to unlock it again.
I still have the sha256=0.
so I did the NV rebuild with the gold backup.
IT WORKED!!
popped in my other sim, and no unlock screen!!!
sooooooooooo a little more options for everyone complaining on no service menu in MF3.
CAUSE THERE IS!!! its a file system hack or run the application.
I hope this helps someone!!
thanks

thanks for posting the links.
I haven't tried the manual method instead of the service mode app.
however the post is in the t mobile section
u can do a search for "hiddenmenu" or "hidden menu" and u should find the file mods instead of buying the app.
so that is a free option
perhaps someone can code it into a free app here?
any takers?
tnx
Well for my factory MF3 it didn't work, or probably I didn't do it correctly.... You should make a little tutorial on how to use this app combined with the unlock method under service menu.. In my case had to order the code..

when u run the service mode program, u have to click on "US phone only, show hidden menu"
after that, u can goto " *#27663368blahblah" from the program
and your menu appears!!!
the program doesn't ask for root.
(which I do have).
hope that helps!

Yeah I follow those steps. but when I go to select [6] NETWORK LOCK my screen shows this.

}
And when tap PERSO_256 info I go to this one..
Then I tap SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[1] and returns me exactly to the Main Menu again.. So I can't continue to step 7 and so on....
great! service menu in MF3 works!
ok great! so u can get to the menu.....
the nv rebuild is accessible...
however yes you cant flip the sha256 flags, that is missing in the menu.
for people who have it off already, then u can just do an NV rebuild to the gold image
(that's what I did!!!)
so that's how I unlocked in MF3 OTA
but yes getting the service menu back works now, as u have verified.
there may be another way to turn the sha256 menu's back on.
we need someone to check it out further.
but we are closer.
hackable
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42037142&postcount=12
ok so that's the previous thread on the hiddenmenu.apk.
im assuming that's what "Samsung service mode" application is using / editing, a system variable to use this apk.
all the other threads refer to hiddenmenu.apk.
sooo all we need is a replacement hiddenmen.apk to reenable the sha256 functionality.
why?
look in the code. it was decompiled.
the menu is in the code.
can we replace the new hiddenmenu.apk with the old one from MDL and get the option to enable / disable sha256?
I think its doable and easy.
anyone have the skills enough to try?
this would be a good hack to do for MF3 OTA.
Thanks good_shepherd33 for figuring this out. I had been searching for a method to SIM unlock my phone and finally using "samsung service mode" program, followed by the NV Rebuild steps mentioned above unlocked my phone.
Note that I already had the code from AT&T but it was not working. Also note that to date, I had tried the code more than 5 times. But minutes ago, I bought the service mode program, and in the service menu sha256 was already off (0). Then I did NV rebuild as described in the above link, and inserted the foreign SIM card, again asked for the network key, but this time when I enter the code AT&T game me, it accepted, and the foreign SIM card worked.

Patched?
Installed the app, but the US phone only buttons do nothing. On MF3. The other buttons work, but I cannot get into the proper menus. Ideas?

if the app doesn't work for you, then try the manual method posted in the tmobile section.
I think the app only works on US phones....(as the menu item says).
the manual method may work on all phones, I don't know I haven't tried the manual service menu enable method.

if ur flag is set to 1
then u just use an unlock code
u cant use an unlock code when its set to zero apparently.
so $10 for it.... still worth it.
Eh sorry man, but 10 dollars is 10 dollars. unlocking should be free IMO anyways. This isnt even my phone lol im just messing with it for a friend. Thought unlocking it would of been a bonus. But it seems I don't have all the SHA256 options listed in the steps, Thats all i need is a way to flip this flag to ZERO, then complete the rest of the procedure.
Right now out of boredom, because it seems we do not have unlocked bootloader been decompiling the apk's to see if there is something they might off quoted out or took out all together to make these options not visible. Nothing has stood out to me yet.
OR even something liek this that I could run in terminal to flip the flag or bring it the menu with all the options.
Code:
am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://1111

[ORIGINAL POST]Obviously, yes, the gabb phone is meant for little kids and such for their first phone. However, it definitely is running android, and probably could be tampered with. If you're wondering what I really need, I mostly talk to people using discord.
Here's what I've tried so far. There is no way (from the file manager) to install .apk files. All it does is tell me that there's no app to open the file with. I have also tried to head over to the bootloader, by holding down the power button and volume down button. I'm fine with no social media, but there is wifi on it, so I was assuming if I could find a way to just get an apk on there, then it would work fine. Also, with the new update, you can see more folders of the phone instead of the standard, PTP thing.

Well if you are reading this, look up how to watch youtube on gabb phone tutorial to learn how to transfer files. If you download an apk on computer, go to computer, press show in folder after downloading apk, copy the file, plug in the charging cord to the gabb and a pc usb, and press this pc in your files, gabb phone, downloads, and paste it. If you go into my files on your gabb, you can go to it but there is no package installer, and if you could download a software or something similar to a package installer, than you could download any app.
It says no app to run this

Maybe if you could run an emulator or jailbreak the gabb phone. Maybe if you could transfer a apk installer file from your computer. Maybe through downloading some app or game on an sd card on a different phone and then putting the sd card in the gabb phone. Maybe you could download android software and transfer it to the phone. If you could run an android emulator that would be the best option.

PLEASE HELP ME I NEED TO KNOW MY DUDE
I found a file in android known as .nomedia it might have something to do with it.
You may be right, because The use of naming a file NOMEDIA is to keep the device from scanning that particular folder. Apps sometimes hide ads in that folder so they don't get deleted. So gabb may be hiding crucial files in that folder, although you will need an external app to manage NOMEDIA utilities. such as studiokuma.
I have noticed that when you hard reset your gabb phone it will show make you agree to the terms of service. if you click read terms of service it will take you to a the ZTE page, but upon closer inspection it is in a web browser, where you can acces youtube, instagram, etc.. BUTTTT you cannot login to your google play account because the keyboard is disabled.
Just wondering if anyone has made progress on this? I have tried almost everything at this point
Tried unlocking bootloader from fastboot (I get `Unlock failed` errors on the device side. Something about it be not allowed?)
Right now my goal is to get USB debugging enabled and go from there
I have basically tapped every setting at least 100 times and still no debug mode

I am currently stuck around this part as well. I was able to reboot into recovery mode by holding the power and volume up button till the screen starts up. I attempted using adb debugging's install command (can be found here), but I ran into a "server client error", notifying me that the server client versions don't match up. I have no idea what that means. I will need to do some further research, but this is what I have so far to contribute to our "noble" cause.
P.S. I forgot to take screenshots of the errors (my bad), but I'll do some research on adb then try again and share the errors (hopefully no errors).

Hi,

The only options are:
1. Reboot System Now
2. Enter Recovery
3. Reboot to bootloader
4. Power off
