Google Maps Heading Based on Compass - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello everyone!
Ever since my Hero (now on an Evo 4G), I have noticed that the Google Maps on Android (running 4.2.0) is missing a feature the iPhone version has: rotate the map based on the compass heading. On the iPhone there is a little button (similar to the "My Location" button if you enable it from the Labs menu) that enables this feature.
Anyone know if we'll ever see that for our Android versions? Would be quite useful (albeit the compass arrow is still okay).

Would anyone know why after using this app successfully for the past 2 weeks on my rhodium htc tp2 phone, that all of the sudden now I'm getting a WebException error?
EDIT: I found the answer in another thread. Apparently the weather site is down and they're working to resolve the problem. I guess I'll have to wait for it to come back up.

Non working compass work-arounds

I'm currently using CM 10.0 nightly 2013-09-01 but I think this is true with all the custom ROMs. In most applications such as Google maps when you rotate your device the compass rotates in the wrong direction. A few applications work such as Field Compass. Here's a slightly longer list of working/non working apps by rasafrasit
If the compass can't be fixed for all applications here's my limited ideas for work arounds.
One cumbersome work around is to switch back and forth from Field Compass to the non-working app.
Another idea would be to find a working application that allows for a 1x1 widget and then use Overlays to keep the widget open with your other app. Anyone know of a Blaze suitable compass app that has a 1x1 widget?
Another idea would look like Statusbar compass. It's a good idea but suffers from the usual Blaze compass defect. Anyone know of another status bar compass the points in the right direction?
Lastly another cumbersome solution is to use Destination Compass. It won't work if your flying in a jet but if you're walking you can make your destiation directly north of you on the artic cirlce and you'll gain a pointer on your status bar that points north.
For those of you interested in a working compass on custom ROMs I've posted the issue in the development thread asking if there's anything we can do to make the job of fixing the compass easier. If you've got ideas for an actual fix (not a work around) please post them there.
Mike.

[APP] Maps Measure

I know there are several apps available for measuring distances on a map - but this one actually looks good
It uses the Google Maps API v2 with all the cool features like 3D models etc. from the official Google Maps app. Additionally, Maps Measure also takes advantage of the new KitKat "translucent system decor" feature (transparent status & navigation bar).
You can access the "drawer menu tab" (see screenshots) by swiping from the left like in Google Maps or by clicking on the text in the top center of the screen. On tablets, the bar is always visible in landscape mode.
Otherwise, using the app is as easy as it can be: just tab on the Map to add a point, tab again to add a second and the app will tell you the air-line distance between those too. Add a third and the map can measure the area (if you chose so from the menu).
Hidden feature: Longpress on the trash icon to delete all points
Oh, and it's open source, like all apps requesting the INTERNET permission should be...

New to EMUI - Q about Look and Feel with Google Maps

Hi all,
i'm totally new to EMUI - First device is the Honor 8 now - before more or less proud owner of a HTC Deside, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus4/5, LG G5 - Compared to the device history i have i am pretty impressed with the Performance - Battery Life and overall "add on" functionality when it comes to app controll and so on. Nonethenless i have one question i was not able to "solve" here for the moment. As far as i can see the "Banner" is used for the headsup notification from "stock android" - As these are themed i have some "strange" appearing things like the google maps navigation when it comes to turn by turn instructions (the green headsup/banner notifications when a turn is ahead) - simply is cut off somehow.
i think this is maybe a general problem to emui theming and cannot be solved except finding a theme that goes well with my needs? any advice for google maps? ^^
cheerz!

Yes I have the same issue... guess we will have to wait until EMUI gets an update that fixes that problem

[Completed] [Info]{Update}Nova Launcher updates application, counts Google Pixel style features

On the eve of its fifth anniversary, software firm TeslaCoil Software announced that it is launching a new update for its Nova Launcher application. The update, which was released on Google Play Store, has been under extensive beta testing for a while and is now available for all users.
According to a report on Android Police website, Nova Launcher is one of the most popular user interface skins for Android users. A full change log of the update has also been released by the company
The log counts additions, such as swipe to open drawer and search bar (similar to what is available on Google Pixel smartphones), a new search view with tabs for frequent, recent, and new applications, timeout-styled screen lock method, double-tap swipe gestures, Android 7.1 launcher shortcuts, dock backgrounds to draw under the navigation bar, and a quick start interface to change major settings easily.
With the update, Android users can now make their launchers look similar to the Pixel Launcher. The website claims adds that with the new update, Nova Launcher comes with a cleaner interface. It states that though the new gestures come across as a bit unusual, it helps a user in gaining a quick access to more features without deranging the UI with extra buttons.
The app can be downloaded both from the developer's website as well as Google Play Store.
Google launched its Pixel smartphone at an event in October this year. The handsets are the first to come without any OEM branding. Pixel and Pixel XL are available in aluminium and glass frames in three different colour variants - Very Sliver, Quite Black and Really Blue. Both run on the latest Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box and support Google Assistant already available on the company's VPA assisted messaging app Allo.
Pixel XL sports a 5.5-inch QHD (1,440x2,560 pixels) resolution AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 4 and an integrated Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensor on the back. Pixel, on the other hand, comes with a 5 inch screen with full HD display, with the remaining configurations remaining the same for both. The battery on board Pixel is a smaller 2,770mAh.
