[THEME] Desire Notification Bar for Cyanogen Mod (tested and working with 6.0.0 rc1) - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Disclaimer
Use these instructions at your own risk.
What happens if it doesnt work?
Worst case scenario: You get a heart attack thinking you bricked your phone
More likely scenario: It works and you end up happy with a nice looking desire bar on your N1.
Less likely scenario: You get a boot loop, which can be easily fixed by re-flashing CM (you wont even lose data)
Instructions - Method 1, use MetaMorph (probably the easiest method):
1. Use CyanogenMod settings to change clock/date/notification text to light grey/white color (or use this XML)
2. Install MetaMorph and BusyBox from market
3. Download the morph/s below and move them to your phone
4. Apply the morph using MetaMorph
Morphs (also available at androidmorph.com):
desire_notification_bar.zip Just the original desire bar + desire icons + stock pulldown menu
Desirebar-Black-Pulldown.zip Desire bar + desire icons + desire pull down (see screenshot) - thanks to Saphroxx
stock_battery_icon.zip Changes your battery icon back to the one included in the stock rom
Alternative methods to get the black desire bar (no longer supported):
Method 2, use my framework-res.apk:
1. Use Spare Parts to change clock/date/notification text to light grey/white color (or use this XML)
2. Download framework-res_XXX.apk and rename it to framework-res.apk
3. adb remount
4. adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
5. reboot (if phone doesnt reboot by itself)
Download framework-res.apk:
CM 5.0.7.1 (n1gapps)
CM 5.0.8 (gapps-passion-EPF30-signed, radio-4.06.00.12_7)
Method 3, create your own framework-res.apk:
1. Use Spare Parts to change clock/date/notification text to light grey/white color (or use this XML)
2. Download this zip containing the PNGs for the desire bar
3. adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk framework-res.apk
4. Open the framework-res.apk on your pc using winrar (or any other packaging software that supports adding files to archives without compression)
5. Add the PNGs in the res.zip file to the framework-res.apk file (put them into \res\drawable-hdpi) without using compression! ("store" method)
6. adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
7. Reboot, if phone doesnt reboot by itself
Note: If after the update installing apps from the market causes FCs go to settings/apps/manage apps/market and hit "delete updates"
Want the transparent Lamppu widget?
Get it here (uninstall your version of Lamppu before installing this one)

can we have one for froyo ?

Desirebar-BlackPulldown-SenseBatteryIcons can be found in my signature

Here is the one I am using on 5.0.8
I take no credit or responsibility for it, i pulled the png files from another apk and put them in this one that was on my phone after updating to CM5.0.8.
make sure when you push it you rename it to the proper name

has anyone tried this with TBA?

I am sorry for hijacking this thread but is there any way to change the notification bar on a stock Froyo FRF72 without rooting?
I've had enough of the white taskbar!

This looks great, only thing that doesent fit my taste is the black color of the provider if you drag down the notifications bar. Anyway I can change it to white color?

I don't know the correct english terms for the settings menu entries since im using a german version. But the option should be close to the bottom (5th from the bottom) in the spare parts menu under "General" -> "Operator Color"

Is there any way that you could add the battery percent like the regular CyanogenMod notification bar?

Yes, it works. After applying this Desire Notification Bar for 5.0.8, I opened TrackBallAlert and was able to succesfully Patch CM5 to use with TBA.
Last update from CM5.0.6 to CM5.0.7.1, I had to uninstall TBA and re-install, which is not needed when upgrading from CM5.0.7.1 to CM5.0.8.
BUMP: Is it possible to morph the dropdownmenu aswell so it's black? Or help me hand so I can do it myself and provide you afterwards? Would be awesome!
The font-color can easily be modified to white in SpareParts.
EDIT: I figured it out myself how to make a morph. In attachment you can find XebozZ' awesome Desirebar, with black Pulldown Menu added by myself. Also tested with TrackBall Alert and it works. You will have to change the font settings of the provider to white again in SpareParts if you use the Desire-Black-Pulldown.
Screenshot in attachmentent!
Enjoy!

The battery percentage works just like with the stock battery icon. If it doesnt show up try to disable it, reboot, enable and reboot again.
In case you want the stock battery icon check out my first post, i just added a morph that restores the original icon.

Pretty sure the control file is there, it's called Desire-Black-Pulldown.thm.
Make sure you do not rename unzipped content etc.
Applying should only take half a minute and your phone will show a message that it will reboot.

Its there its vanishing, i get it to work soemtimes i have been poking around other forums and users are saying the same thing it just sits at applying frames now i tried a few themes ppl said worked with 5.0.8

Clock on Lock screen

Ok I followed a tutorial on how to change the lock screen over on android forums (can't post link due to being a new user) and the way all of there's look is they have a square style lock screen, however every time I try and change mine to either ones that I have created, or others that they have created it still gives me that bar style clock on the lock screen. How do I change it to the square one? I've attached pictures showing the two clocks I'm talking about.

That box is implemented into the picture. They are removing the bar and just adding the black square to the wallpapers picture so it aligns with the clock.

No they aren't, it is an actual lockscreen with the box underlaying the clock on any wallpaper. I have used it before.
on 1.5 just pull HtcLockScreen.apk from /system/app open it (I use WinRAR) go to \res\drawable-480x320\ and edit the lockscreen_topedge.png file or replace it with the png of your liking (same dimensions) and make sure you name it the same. push it back to your phone and reboot.

I did that but I'm still getting that same stock clock
It works. I've never had experience editting any of the Android files. I followed the guide step by step and it did work. Make sure you're keeping the directory structure intact and resigning the zipfile correctly. Flash it through recovery mode.
I know it works I just can't seem to get the clock to change. The only thing I can think of is that I'm not flashing properly, what exactly do u do in the recovery area?

Technically, it's not the clock you are trying to change, it's the image behind it. The clock (text) itself remains the same.
Drop the zip file on the root of your sdcard, boot into recovery, and try flashing it that way, rather than (assuming) through the pre-kitchen, if that is they way you previously tried.
In recovery you just choose apply sd card: choose zip right?

[WORKING/DOWNLOAD] Services.jar for Centered Text for Circle Battery w/Black Themes!

I have made the Battery Percent in the middle again in CM-5.0.6 so far its working and i havent had any issues yet but i am still testing with it...
Services.jar is from CM-5.0.6 with moditfications made by me with the help from:
david1171 - Pointing me in the right file paths
sn0wmis3r - His theme Inspired me and pointed out the cc3.jar doesnt work with the percent icons. lol
brandenk - Created the battery icons.
enomther - Who made the guide to manually make text black to white
Cyanogen - The creator of CM
UPDATE 4/30/2010 - My custom made Services.jar is now able to be downloaded. I know it works for what i have with my theme. anyones elses theme i do not know about. This is not a update.zip nor a morph themed install. this is unzipped to services.jar. I made my own custom CM-5.0.6 the day after it was release and have been working on it since then till it was finished on 04/21/2010 and working.
How to use my services.jar:
If you bake your own Cyanogenmod-5.0.6-N1 Rom like i do, and also theme them with the circle battery and would like to have it centered plus running as a Black Themed base this is for you.
1. Download and unzip CM-5.0.6-N1 to its own folder.
2. Make the changes to the files that you need to do to make your theme black and with circle battery.
3. Unzip the services.jar into the /system/framework/ folder
4. repackage it up as a store only zip with the name of the zip not containing any spaces at all. (example: CM-5.0.6-N1-Themed.zip Not CM 5.0.6 N1 Theme.zip)
5. then sign your newly made custom rom of CM.
You are then ready to flash it to your phone.
NOTE: I am not responsible for your mistakes. do a nano backup before anything to your phone always.
If your wanting this into a morph well then you need to download this services.zip and extract the classes.dex file from the services.jar and place it where it needs to go.
I'll be working on a morph as soon as i can i have other projects i am helping with other on and i am busy with personal work crap as well lol...
again this is set for a black theme with white text and a centered percent numbers with the circle battery.
I can help you make the morph for the battery if you'd like. Just pm me the images and the services.jar with only the battery placement configurations?
I'm looking for the circle battery aswell
Sweet alright well i know sn0wmis3r will be updating his black matte morph soon as well. I will be making my own over the week. If i need help I will take you up on your offer Papichulo06 :-D
Thank you!
What color? I'm using the blue one found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652450
Same as found in this thread on post 4

Just wanted to let you know, the Kspec morph is currently working on my N1 running CM 5.0.6. I used the Lite 1.1 version.
Are we talking about the same thing or am I missing something?
Dunno I havent seen what his icons are and if it shows the battery percent in center or not. i'll look into that later and find out what battery icon he has.
What exactly did you edit to get it to change?
I accomplished it by going in and using PSPad's text diff feature to see what was different in 5.0.5.3 com/android/server/status/StatusBarIcon.smali to the one in 5.0.6, and changed pretty much every difference, and I got it working (or well, I just copied the 5.0.5.3 one to 5.0.6, but when I did it for the different versions of the trackball successions services.jar, then I did it that way, only changing certain things).
Copied kinda like what you did only made sure i did not change pswitch and some other numbers. I dont use the trackball successions i dont believe (unless that built into 5.0.6 then i do) but so far my trackball works fine lights up with no issues. even on the live default wallpaper on cm-5.0.6 it works fine. I used Notepad++ and just used the clone to make one side one document and the other side the one i am messing with (basically the same thing but i just like notepad++ more). I'll up the services.jar file this weekend for sure.
With Pix now
can you share your wallpaper?
Wallpaper is fireworks Live Wallpaper in market. it will allow you to select different types of backgrounds with fireworks going on. :-D
Re: [WORKING] Circle Battery w/Percent in Middle CM-5.0.6 w/PIX
thx, and the dock that is rear the icons???
dock comes with helixlaunch2 also in market :-D got to love free stuff thats AWESOME!
the dock image comes with helixlauncher? i Have the helix2 that works with 5.0.6 and i dont know how to show it :S Thx for all
okay with helix 0.7 go to the config part and under the shortcuts advanced only you will see "Show Dock" that should put the dock on there for you. :-D
Do you have the newest version from HelixLauncher2 from Market? This has the dock.
This appears to be the battery I created for my Kspec themes located at http://alldroid.org/forums/911-Themes.

[Shaded/transparent status bar] for 8/1 froyo leak

I've taken the liberty of creating a ~50% shaded status bar as well as a fully transparent one. This has been compiled with Jercik's Smooth Sense icons and Xeudoxus' shaded notifcation background, of which i obviously take no credit for either of those modifications and would also like to thank both of them for their creations. I believe everyone should give them a hearty thank you as well.
EDIT: BIG thanks to yojoe600 for the edited services.jar with no location AND transparent status background. all zips have been updated with it, meaning no more location icon in status bar.
As with anything, do a nandroid just in case something goes wrong.
Anyways, here's a few shots of the bars:
shaded bar

some light bugs:
after installing the zip and booting up for first time, widgets may be doubled over themselves. just remove them and put them back up again, issue is fixed.
when debugging is enabled, upon connecting to pc through usb, weather info on the stock weather widget will disappear. just flick to a different homescreen and back, it will fix.
If any other bugs are found, please post it so i can see if i can fix it.

Yea text is still white. I think the text color is handled by a .jar file or xml, which i dont know how to edit yet. But im getting ready to learn java development so hopefully soon i will.
Good to hear you guys arent experiencing the bugs i did.
Thanks!

Appreciate it!!!

yea, i tried flashing the noloc.zip over this, but the shaded notification background (the background for when you pull down the status bar, not the bar itself) is a services.jar edit which is packed in with this zip. unfortunately the no location mod is also a services.jar edit, meaning one will replace the other when flashed. and i dont know how to edit .jars yet, so i could ask pmf if he'd be willing to show me what he edited in the .jar to remove the icon and see if i could add it in as well. i'll let you know when/if this happens.
until then, if you still want to remove the location icon, you can still flash pmf's zip to get rid of it, youll just possibly lose the shaded notification background at worst. it shouldnt change anything else.

the link to the services.jar only didnt have the no location, so i downloaded the .zip and pulled the services from there.
I installed the zip from the op for shaded smooth sense/super circle green. The battery notification does not show up at all. A blank space where the battery notification would be.
edit: it works when I have the phone plugged in to charge, but once I disconnect the charge the battery icon disappears again.

OFFICIAL: MIUI - Share your customized icons here and mini-HOWTO.

So miui had been great and allows us to customize our own icon on launcher. So I thought maybe we can share our icons here for theming needs.
Some background for those who are not aware of what this is.
In MIUI, at first boot after flashing, miui will rip through your list of apps in /data/app/ and extract the icon associated with that app and put it into the "/data/system/customized_icons_1" folder. For instance, if I have the appbrain app on my /data/app/, there will be a corresponding PNG file in /data/system/customized_icons_1/com.appspot.swisscodemonkeys.apps.png.
Now what do you do with this PNG file?
First of it's an image file, and if you do theming or for some reason you don't like the default icon, you can certainly replace them with newer icon.
So cool, how do I replace the default icon?
OK, so go find an icon of your choosing in PNG format and specific size (check mine for sample). Rename your new PNG to the exact same name of the app, so in my example the new icon I downloaded named "someofthepic.png", then I'll rename it to "com.appspot.swisscodemonkeys.apps.png" to match with appbrain.
After you renamed it, upload these to /data/system/customized_icons_1/ and reboot your phone. You will then have a brand spanking new icons.
This process can be applied to newly installed apps as well.
CREDIT: these icons are from Suave HD theme I got over miui forum.
I know the app but not sure what is the related "system" name of the app, what do I do?
Head over to http://www.androlib.com/, put in the name of your app, in my example it'll be "appbrain" and search. Scroll to the middle of the page, the section above screenshot will have what is call a "Package Name". This is the one that you need to copy&paste.
EDIT: these customized icons will only work if your apps are located on /data/app and if MIUI launcher parsed it to create an icon in /data/system/customized_icons_1 folder. For maps and other which is system apps, you will have to tinker with the apk itself or the framework-res.apk
Thanks for the write-up, I swapped a couple of icons (Yahoo!, facebook, ScanLife and Spare Parts..) and plan to make more custom icons to match for the others I have installed now..
Great guide. Already been doing this since miui started on the evo, but go od to show others
-Swyped away on my addiction
Thanks for the how to! Already put my newfound knowledge to use!
cool dudes, glad it helps out...
After following the steps to change the icons. It worked after the reboot but after subsequent reboots, Miui reverted back to the original icon. I am using version 11.5 stable. Any thoughts as to why this may be occurring?

+1
Same here. Some of the ones I changed are still my custom icon, where the others reverted back to the original ones.
I'm trying to change my Google maps app icon and I cant
Yup I got it to work but after a couple of reboots and and some mounts to the computer, some of them reverted back to default and after a check inside the customzied_icon folder they had reverted there to and after a delete of the file and a copy with the new icon it directly reverted back.

I had the icons there and reboots countless of times but not reverting back. What you experience is that might be some of the apps got updated in market and therefore, icons revert back obviously, and yes you have to replace them again.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I couldn't find the folder "/data/system/customized_icons_1" anywhere, not on my phone, or on my sd card

If you want the default Softkey Functions back (like when you want to try any of the other softkey themes) Then flash the Default_Softkey_Actions.zip

***NOTE ABOUT CWM 3***
Not all the packages are CWM 3 compatible... The Nexus Theme is, and so is the Defaul Softkey Action zip.... For now if you want to flash any of the other themes, download the old Blue cwm 2 and flash that from within the new yellow cwm 3. Then you can flash the files
If you want a certain theme converted, i will do that... I just don't wanna waste any extra energy doing that if i don't have to
***DIY***
THEMING:
If you wanna try tackling this yourself, there really isn't much you have to do... Before embarking, however, make sure you have at least a little knowledge in what your doing....
What You'll Need:
-The Framework-res.apk from /system/framework
-7-zip (easy way)
-(optional) Update-Zip-Packager (not my creation, thank the developer of this batch for his wonderful project )
Steps:
Now, right click on the APK and go to 7-zip --> Open Archive..
A window will appear, where you now maneuver yourself to assets --> images...
Select all of the four google_key_icon_*.png images within that folder, and drag "Copy To" your deskop...
Now, add your special touches to those images
When done, just drag those images back into that same folder you got them from within 7-zip Manager, and you are set
To throw this apk into a flashable zip, i just used Update-Zip-Packager found on XDA... However, you can use ClockWorkRecovery/ADB also... Whatever you want
NOTICE: Backup your old framework-res.apk just in case :3
BUTTON MAPPING:
What You'll Need:
-ADB (or Root Explorer )
-Text Editor (on your computer )
Steps:
The button configuration for the Continuum is located at /system/usr/keylayout, and the file name is qwerty.kl
First we need to mount System as RW... To do this, Use ADB, and type "adb shell /system/bin/mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/stl9 /system"
Now that it is mounted properly, we have to copy the qwerty.kl to the computer... Type "adb pull /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl"
(Of course you can just use Root Explorer or another such app if you so choose, but that cost money this is free )
Now, open the file open in your favorite text editor, it doesn't really matter...
Here is a list of the codes and the corresponding button... This is important, because there are more than one buttons labeled as, for example, "Menu":
key 158 = Back
key 139 = Menu
key 217 = Search
key 102 = Home
Make your appropriate changes, and save...
Now you gotta push it back to the phone, which you can either use the Update-Zip-Packager again, or you can just use ADB in CWM
Step 42: Profit
Any modifications that you make yourself, don't be stingy Share with the community, for everyone to use! Just send me the framework-res.apk and/or qwerty.kl, and i will do the rest
Or you could make the zip yourself, that works too
Ticker Clock Colors:
We have managed to figure out how [Thank you Jaizero for helping me with this ] to change the color of the Ticker Clock (and also the date, music info text, etc )... If you want to see a certain color, just ask nicely below, providing at the same time the Hex code you would like to see exactly! If you aren't sure how to find the Hex Code of the color you want, just do a google search for, say, "Blue Hex Value" or something along that lines
If you are thankful just hit thanks<3
Hmm, that sounds interesting. What were you thinking about modifying then to?

can you change the functions as well? or just the icons...
It would be nice to have the ability to lock them during game play because I have the tendency to bump them on accident from time to time and the ability it change the color would be absolutely appreciated

1) yeah, I thought this was a cool little hidden plus for our phone and I was thinking maybe for the "clean"people maybe just dots, and maybe for the metro ui people the actual words, like "Menu" "Home" and the works...
2) Yeah, I can change the function, but that doesn't involve what I am talking about.. I'm pretty sure there is a *.ko file in system I can edit to modify the soft keys... idk why you would want to though
3) I don't know how to lock them, sorry froyo has a default setting to make them time out after a while, however... So maybe when we get a froyo rom I can check it out for you
Also, I can change the colors, sure... Just so you know though, once you flash a themed file, you can't change the color until you flash another file... So no automatic color changing if that's what your thinking.. It can be done, I just don't know how to program apps xP

That sound like it will be awesome. I would love to chane the colors also

Thats awesome but my only question is would o have to flash it through the recovery or odin

Another question, will I be able to change a certain softkey a different color eg. Home, blue search, green or would they all have to be the same color.
Sorry for all of these questions but one of the main things I wanted to do besides updating to 2.2 was to change the softkeys and since you discovered the ability to do so I figured it's better to ask then to wonder. LoL

lol, i like answering questions, so its no problem
They don't all have to be the same, i can make each one a different color if i wanted... Just give me a template with what you want done, and i'll try and get it done Like, what color do you want for what, and what should they look like? (original, words, "dot", etc)...
and i can make a recovery package for you if you want it when/if i finish
I would say let's start off simple and work from there let's keep the original icons and go with a cyanogen blue
And with the recovery package will it work with the stock recovery or will I have to install cwm
Sent from my Rooted Space Time Continuum w/h a 2600mAh battery
Just so you know before i start, whatever i make is going to be "grayed" down because of that gray strip we have where the softkeys are.....
and your going to need cwm It's pretty easy to do it nowadays
*Duplicate *
Thats fine with me, but will I also need cwm to install the new soft key theme
Sent from my Rooted Space Time Continuum w/h a 2600mAh battery
Yes, you will..
Here is a quick pic of cyan-like softkeys... The blue is much more pronounced when you actually have it installed... Would something like that be good?
Hells yea. LoL
But is there a way to make them brighter with out having to adjust the screen brightness like the icons I have now
Sent from my Rooted Space Time Continuum w/h a 2600mAh battery
I like the idea of having cyan colored keys. Great work
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
For me I would love to see green, thanks for doing this btw.
I can do green next and no problem its actually pretty easy lol..
Lincoln3828: Here's the thing, with the screen shot the cyan blue is very bright... Whatever you set the brightness for the screen, the soft keys follow... Also, even though those icons look really bright, when you flash it it is a lot more darker/not as bright... It looks more blue, but yeah, not as bright... There isn't anything I can do for that... Thanks to the grey stripe :l
EDIT:
Green Softkeys i think they might be a litttle too dark green when you actually flash it, imo
Do you like it though? haha
Green looks awesome man, cant wait till you upload some stuff lol. Thanks again man
I would love to see some different icons man, Say some text icons maybe? Idk how it would look though because it doesnt look like there is enough room to fit the full words.
