Phone unusable for way to long at app install - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Whenever i goto install an app, my entire phone sits there frozen sometimes up to 30 seconds. I know this is not just my phones problem(Evo 4g) as this happened on my g1 too. I figured it would be fixed with the extreme hardware advances, but i was wrong. Why is this happening?

Not sure if this is why but whenever an app is installed, Autostarts shows that VoiceDialer and Voice TTS starts as well

Hmm interesting. I doubt that's the sole reason but I bet it couldn't hurt to stop that frm happening.

This should not be happening on an EVO. This did happen when installing apps on my G1 from time to time, but that was just a lack of power. I have never had this issue on my N1. Even on my G1 it was normally a big app, or once I had lots of apps installed. (more crap running in the background) It may be worth it to try a good old fashioned WIPE and start fresh.
Not saying that will fix it. But when in doubt

Market place

I think there's something wrong with the market place. It keeps fore closing.

Mine works fine. Try clearing cache and data in applications settings under "Market." See if that does the trick.
I've had that problem multiple times now...it seems to go away after some time. I rebooted and completely powered off/on a few times with no results, eventually just started working

I am always having problems with the market lol. If I download something, it says its still downloading when it's actually done. I clear the cache every time I download something. It's going much slower than normal today though, I was thinking something might be going on.
Yeah, I understand the frustration with the market. It happened quite often when I had the Evo. It eventually straightens itself out. It's just great practice to clear the cache every so often. On a side note, I hear they're revamping the market place, could this be the reason why some are experiencing force closes? Just a thought.
Cleared the cache and still having trouble. Any idea on how long it irons itself out?

Hmm, try clearing the data as well. By doing so, you have to accept market terms again when opening the app.. Also try hitting force close and uncheck fast boot and reboot phone. If all else fails, just wait it out. As I've said before, it happened to me a lot with the Evo. There's no timeline on when it will work again. Maybe someone here has better insight on the matter? Good luck.
Tried but still the same. Imma wait it out.

I was having the same problem. I turned off the fast boot in Settings > Applications > Fast Boot and it seems to have fixed the problem.

[Q] Music player and youtube app problems

So I've had this Captivate for a little while now and have enjoyed it more than my iPhone 3GS, but after I upgraded to 2.2, I have had nothing but problems that is causing me to hate this phone.
My music player doesn't work. I can open it and play one song, but after that, it becomes unresponsive. If I want to listen to another song, I have to open task manager, end the music player and start over again. This happens every time.
The same thing with youtube. I can watch one video, then it becomes unresponsive. I have to end it with task manager and start again.
The phone is also incredibly laggy, worse than most Windows 95 machines I've used. It also freezes regularly and the only way to fix it is to pull the battery.
Other than flashing to a custom ROM, is there anything I can do to fix this?

Sorry, I forgot to say I did that already, and nothing changed at all. Do you think it would be worthwhile to do it again?
what hard reset method did you use? is your cappy used custom rom b4?

Those kind of problems sound like a bad update/flash. I would Odin back to stock, master clear and start over.
Thanks for the help. It's fixed now. It was a bad upgrade to 2.2. I once again love this phone.

Losing apps and settings when i reboot.

So i rooted with Odin and pushed the kernal and cwd through and the zip file for the sdcard fix. I have root but everytime i reboot my phone i lose all my apps and have to resign back into google, happens with any rom. Anyone know what im doing wrong here thanks.

A similar issue to me happened recently.
For me, I would keep getting notifications that "X application has stopped responding", and an option to force close. These kept stacking on each other, to the point where I could press "force close" and not receive any response from the phone for several minutes. I rebooted my phone, and the same thing kept happening. Eventually I got the "welcome to android" screen. The phone would randomly reset itself at this point.
My solution was to re-install the ROM I had on it, so maybe that would work for you? I ended up taking my phone back to Costco for a replacement, since I figured that my issue probably wasn't a sign of good things to come. You might want to try the same thing.
Cool thx for your reply.

Sense restarts after installing/uninstalling apps w/new Market!

I updated to the new Market and it works perfectly BUT - Sense seems to restart after I leave the Market and have just uninstalled or installed/updated apps. Is this normal behavior? I've been using Launcher Pro for most of the time I've had the phone and this is extremely annoying. I understand why this is happening since on HC 3.1 the launcher refreshes/restarts after installing/updating apps to make sure widgets are updated, etc. HOWEVER, Sense takes too long to restart where as the stock HC 3.1 launcher is fast.
Anybody else having issues?
I have the original market that came with the phone (didn't look right to call it the 'stock market' )..and I still have the same issue. Sense always reboots after any install.
Not experienced any issues at all with the Market - old or new
I got new market no issues.

Using the market that came stock on the phone and no restarts with any app install or exit of the market.
Hmm. So it's a mix. I wonder what causes it then, maybe having a certain app or widget installed?

I have problem with sense restarting but not sure if its after an app install..
What ROMs are people using? Do you have apps disabled with temp root?
I'm on the one on my sig and not temp rooted so no apps disabled
I get a sense reboot most times but not all. Most of the time when I install an app from the market and press back multiple times before the software catches up, it reboots. And just now. I uninstalled an application, and hit the back button and sense reboots. And if I just view the market, browse around and hit back to exit, it didn't as well. Maybe it's sense's way of soft rebooting?
It keeps happening, it's driving me crazy. Happens on installs, uninstall and updates.

Complete stock, never rooted or anything..
This happened on my wildfire. It had something to do with the app being installer onto the SD card.

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
I do not recall Sense restarting on the original market. With the new market I have seen it happen 80% of the time. For me though it seems to happen if I either go through things too fast or spend to long within market. If I pop in and out I have not seen a reboot yet. Not something I have really tried to force just what I have seen thusfar.
Edit: Phone is stock
I uninstalled the new market, doesn't seem ready for prime time or the would have a update in the market. It didn't show updates for me.

Do you guys have the Spare Parts app installed and changed the way it manages memory? I changed it to aggressive and Sense would restart each time I hit the home button. I changed it back to normal and it hasn't happened since.
If you guys haven't, then maybe try installing it and manually changing it to normal.
Was the new Market for me. I uninstalled it and it seems to have fixed the issue.

Where is this option in Spare Parts. I don't see it.
Nevermind, still happens. I'm done with Sense. Using LP and will try ADW EX too

Mytouch 4g slide keeps freezing

Hey all, i don't know if there's already a thread about this but i did a quick search and didn't really find one about my problem.
Anyways, my girlfriend has a mytouch 4g slide and it keeps freezing on her. If she's in a call, she can stay in the call but won't be able to hang up or use the screen in any way until a restart. She is completely stock. This is the second mytouch for her with the same problem. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Well when I was stock, I never had any problems like this. I have heard about people having screen freezes with regards to the call screen, however. It could easily be one of the apps that she downloaded. It might be worth it to try a factory reset if the problem is persistent. Not to mention that sounds like a pretty annoying issue.
Yeah, we tried a factory reset before and it didn't work.

Huh, I talked to her more about this issue and it seems that it only freezes during a call. She didn't realize it until I asked her specifically about it. So any way to fix this issue.

If a factory reset doesn't solve your problem, you have two options:
Root and install a custom rom (could be a stock rom problem, even though it shouldn't be)
Get it replaced under warranty
is the device completely frozen, or can she get the screen to turn on by pressing the trackpad or something? come to think of it, the sensor doesn't seem to work perfectly on my device, so sometimes when i want to hang up a call, i need to press the trackpad to get the screen to turn on. i have never had the device become totally unresponsive tho.
Well, she says the screen is on but nothing happens when she taps it. The only way so far to get her phone to work again is a battery pull.
This is already a warranty replaced phone for the same problem. I would root her phone, but she is in San Francisco and I'm not. She is also not very tech savvy so she can't do it herself.

Have her try using GO! Dailer/Contacts. I know this issue is based within the Call Out screen. But try using GO! It can also an out of Ram issue. On stock, the more widgets you use. The worse the phone gets. You'll see that HTC Logo all the time. My Uncle has this phone, and he's 100% stock. He gets freezes, and the HTC Logo screen after every app. Since the phone has the highest priority in a call, in can be using to much RAM. Then the phones doing a Rosie reboot with out the HTC scrreen.
If she wants to. Install Zeam Launcher. She won't have any Sense widgets. But it'll free up about 120Mb of Ram. Then place the call, and see if it lags.

After a warranty replacement for my old phone, I haven't had time to fight rooting and have been experiencing similar issues... Memory mgmt seems to be cause. Ive removed some apps and it has reduced issues.
On initial use of phone, I reset it, inserted a full battery and followed the general "let it set" rules for a fresh rom install. At first, all was great, everything worked perfect. But as I added apps, it grew less stable. Also seeing phone freeze when rebooting into recovery... Eek. Tried multiple sd cards, batteries, to no avail.
Gonna call for another replacement. Ugh. Wrty is up in a couple months...

I've had a couple of freezes happen to me during phone calls and I realize what the problem was. It was apps automatically downloading in the background from the Play Store. If an auto update for apps is happening and I receive a phone call at the same time my phone will become unresponsive for a few minutes.

So this GO! Dialer, would it help with the freezing issue? I don't see how using another app would help with the memory issue. Does Zeam Launcher require root?
