Have fun. Looks like I may be moving to the Alsace this summer so maybe I'll spot you if I do some sightseeing over the border.
Think I may get one myself actually.

Found this one yesterday in a magazine:
Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit
Maybe theres a micro usb adapter available ...

I'm seriously thinking of getting one but would love to hear first hand impressions of how secure it holds the phone.

Would love this as it's a real pain in the butt to stop bike and pull phone out of backpack!
I'm going to pick this baby up. Will report back on it later.
EDIT:
Don't order from them. They neglected to tell me that the bracket is on back order, so now they have my money and my bracket is in limbo. Who knows when they'll get another shipment of these brackets. I could have ordered from somewhere else and had it in hand by now. How irritating.

I finally got the bike bracket from Amzer. Very solid piece of hardware, and not obtrusive on the bike as I feared. Though the bracket swivels in 360 degrees, you can lock it in your preferred position and it stays there.
I was able to have full control over the phone's functions without moving the phone or bracket out of place.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to mount his N1 on his bike.
If you have any questions let me know.
Please See Addendum Below. DO NOT get this bracket.

How sturdy is it? How well is the N1 locked into the mount? I was thinking of using this on a motorcycle, but it would have to hold up to lots of beating and vibration...

It is big enough anything should fit in it. I ordered one and will let everyone know how it fits in a few days.

It's been a long time since I've ridden a motorcycle, so don't know if the bracket would work on that kind of handlebar.
That said this bracket is very sturdy. I never felt like the phone was in danger of popping out. You have to pull the top part of the clip pretty far out to remove the phone. Be aware that there is no cover from the elements on this thing. If you get rained on, the phone is probably toast.

Please don't buy from Amzer / Fommy.com.
I've had a nightmare experience, and despite pressure from my BBB complaints and the Attorney General, it's been almost 4 weeks and I'm still waiting to receive the correct item.Horrible service and broken promises all the way.

I used this bracket for just the second time yesterday (weather in Houston has been wet for the last week). A quarter of the way through my ride, my music suddenly stopped. Sure enough, I glanced down to see the my headphone jack dangling. The entire cradle half of the bracket had completely popped off! I had to backtrack and found the phone separated from the cradle as well (probably upon impact). I had been cruising on a gravel road at the time, so my poor N1 is nicely dinged and chipped up except for the screen (on which I had a screen protector).
Of course, I'm fuming at the shoddy construction of the Amzer Bike Bracket. I can't imagine they will credit me the damage to the phone (which was in pristine condition). It's clear they didn't do any testing on their bracket's design, as upon further inspection, I found that the cradle has a sliding groove to settle upon the bracket itself, and obviously doesn't lock well enough to withstand normal vibration.
Using the bracket has turned out to be even more frustrating than actually getting it. Avoid this bracket like the plague.

Sorry to hear that man. I was excited to hear a review on that as I am in the market for something for while I'm road biking. Wish it would have worked out for you.

pakraider may be correct--
I have yet to get a response from Amzer about the product

I've made one myself with some parts. It's not cheap but it works great for about 1000 kilometers for now (on and offroad) without problems.

Krusell (sp) actually makes a kit specifically for bicycling using their multidapt case, along with every other kind of mount you could imagine.
What I did was bought a VERY cheap krusell case (2.99 on android for an old blackberry) a silicon case for my old mytouch, and some heavy duty contact adhesive. Add to the mix a little exacto knife magic (okay, a lot) and you have a customized mount that you can use ANYWHERE! For a lot less than the usual $40.00 they charge with this case.
They have car mounts, bicycle mounts, running armbands...everything you could think of - and they all use the 'multidapt' system. So you crucify one cheap case and one cheap phone sleeve, and you're golden.
I used the bike mount on my road bike. Simple, positively snaps in and out, minimum pieces to risk failure, and my mytouch was my GPS for a 120 mile road race (thank you cardiotrainer!)
If you've got the time and the tools, it's worth a try. The total setup cost me less than $25 from Amazon with shipping.

Anyone got any experience of these guys and their mounts?

check out this one. i have the one that suctions to window and its cheap and works great. of course, no bluetooth or google goodies, but that thing will never come out.

Got tired of waiting myself and ordered this a week or so ago. It was on my desk when I got home from work today finally. For its price and origin, it holds up pretty well, well at least the few hours I've tried it so far.
The suction cup had a plastic protective film, I removed the film, licked the cup and fastened it to the window. I gave it a few hard tugs and its on there pretty good. I look forward to seeing how it handles the Sun here in Phoenix.
Another good thing I like about it is, it is sturdy where its at. My universal dock for my G1 was flimsy and would move when I pushed the screen. This doesn't budge. Also the phone is securely locked in.
Only issues I'm having so far is I'm not used to using my index finger on the screen and I'm having issues but that's not related to the holder.

i Have that exact one, it is alright, except you can't rotate it at all, so the phone sits at an angle, and it scratched some of the teflon off the bottom of the phone. Maybe get some high grain sandpaper and make it a bit less sharp on the bottom left edge where it hold your phone.

I was able to rotate mine, I just loosened the knobs and made it angle to my taste.
Scratches from it? Does your N1 have a skin?

I got the padded tilt/swivel mount. It's very nice, it has a felt type texture to it. It is very soft and will definitely never harm my precious Nexus One. It is very sturdy, and holds the phone securely. I can drive like a maniac and this puppy isn't budging one inch! It is in the perfect "navigation position" for my car. I couldn't be happier
Like I said, it was pricey, but the quality of the mount is well worth it. I've had those cheapy universal style mounts in the past and they're always pieces of ****. It's nice to have a NICE mount for my nice phone

Yup, the bottom is completely open to plug in a car charger. They make a mount with the charger built in too, but it adds on to the already expensive mount, and I already have a car charger, and they don't have a padded version, so I opted for this one
That mount looks solid, secure & good location. Unfortunately, proclipusa doesn't have a vent mount for my Benz

If you tilt the phone to landscape orientation, does it slide out of the mount?
It appears that it is a drop in mount, so I am worried that if it is landscape and I take a turn sharply, that sucker will fly out of there.
I have the version which has the built-in charger, not padded; I use it in landscape 90% of the time (and switching is trivial). The phone is held quite securely.
Mileage may vary on the padded version.
I guess I'm the opposite. I prefer my navigation to be in portrait mode. It allows you to see more of the upcoming roadway in front of you.
But I can tilt it to landscape and it'd be held in just fine as long as I didn't tilt it too far.
Re: n1 car dock? NEED A LINK...
can one of you guys, post a or the link from a online store were we can buy this kinds of accessories? a trusted one of course. and not tmobile, because i think only users from that operator, can buy in the omline store. At least you need to provide a tmobile phone number for the registration (i'm in Portugal, so i don't have one). I'm especially interested in the car dock in this post. best regards!

Dirt cheap custom car mount for Galaxy S

Check this out. Gonna order some parts and give it a go. I'll let you all know how I get on.
Cheers,
BS...
That looks nifty but I always prefer OEM accessories... Probably because their quality control is more polished than mine.
Can you give the ebay links that are relevant to our phone?
Here is what you need.
Mount for Garmin Nuvi - LINK
Hardcase for i9000 - LINK
Sticky Pads - LINK
TOTAL: £5.06
How do u make the cup part that goes on the ball part ( I didn't see any such thing in the link...)
Sacky, the mount you quoted does not include the bracket to attach the suction mount to the phone case.
Here's what I've ordered, a bit more expensive, but they're all from the UK, so no waiting for bits from Ummygumgumland:
Mount Holder Suction Cup Garmin Nuvi 275W 255T 465T 260 - £4.99
Black Matt Hard Case Skin For Samsung i9000 Galaxy S - £3.82
Garmin Dashboard Mount Disc GPS SATNAV Nuvi 200 250 255 - £2.99
Total = £11.80 or £8.81 without the dash discs.
I'll update this thread when they arrive and let you know how I get on.
Cheers,
BS...
What's the dash disk for? Can't the garmin thing stick to the dashboard without it?
No it can't. It can stick to the windscreen, but not the dash. You don't need the disc unless you specifically want to attach it directly onto the dashboard.
Cheers,
BS...
Well the suction cup section has arrived, and it's sturdy as hell, perfect! Gonna modify it later using my Dremel type tool. Pics of the process to come.
Cheers,
BS...
The rest of the parts arrived today, I built it tonight and it has surpassed all my expectations.
Photos tomorrow.

Here comes the science bit:
Parts before modification:
Here is were I 'rough cut' the bracket, making sure to leave some of the curved bits on for fine trimming:
Fine trim the rest of the curved bits off to leave it nice and flat:
I'm an IT worker, not a glue expert, but i thought I did alright here
Clamp and leave to cure for a couple of hours:
Notice how the bracket is glued slightly to the left on the second picture, to allow the camera to 'shoot' past the mount when driving. Can be used with apps such as Autoguard Blackbox to record video when driving
Well, I'm made up with the finished article. It's absolutely rock solid when attached to the dash/windscreen, and the phone clips effortlessly in and out of the holder.
Thanks for looking,
BS...

The photos are working now but I agree yesterday the they weren't. I agree you have done a good job and produced a fully functioning bracket but you could have saved all the hastle by buying the one I got.
But then life would be so boring, plus I've seen a couple of comments about that type of holder scratching the silver bezel.
;o)

That looks awesome and a lot less clunky than the other one. Although there is an amount of hassle involved in doing this, i'm sorely tempted to get involved.

I bought this one, mainly because of the extended arm, so I don't have to reach over the dashboard to get to it
Then I bought a cheap mount with the same phone holder part, cut bits off both, bit of superglue here and there, and now my phone and it's silicon case fit perfectly! No scratches!

Trying to get some feedback on build quality and performance with the htc car kit dock. Anyone get it yet? Pics? I'm leaning towards getting it since I have the N1 dock and like the look of it.
Thanks
im curious on this as well. i like the look of it though the holder part looks like cheap easy-to-break plastic. is this so? and how well does it mount in vehicle. and is it easy to take on and off without needing screws or any damaging/invasive mounting?

It mounts via suction cup on the bottom to a window, flat surface or a disc with tape on the other side. It looks exactly the same as the N1 mount with a holder for the S4G. The plastic the holder is made of doesn't look as sturdy as the holder for the n1 though. At $65 I wanna hear some feedback before buying it.

saw those - expansys and htc-uk are the only places that I've found it for sale
I'd also love some feedback before throwing away almost $70. If its a high quality dock, I'll get it, the N1 dock was pricey but worth it, however it also came with bluetooth and built in speakers...
That's an interesting design. The base looks solid, just like the N1's dock, and I loved mine.
Hope this one actually holds the phone well. It does look a little flimsy.
Just gotta find somewhere in my car to actually mount it without it being in the way.
I'm going to checkout expansys' return policy and bite the bullet. I got a better idea of what's going on with by looking at the Desire dock. That image in the first post is at a horrible angle. It looks like the Desire dock with different placement of the black bar that has the microusb plug. The brown plastic the phone sits in is kinda see through. It looks like HTC is using that black bar + brown holder as a basic form for their docks now. They all have the same base and arm. I'm thinking the charger is similar too. I plugged the adapter cord from my N1 charger into the S4G and it went from 70% to 100% in maybe 15 minutes - much faster than every other method I've tried including the stock charger.
I have this dock, and it is perfect quality.
I kinda not like the degrees of rotation which are limited in one way, so it is hard to find the right way to mount it so you can use it landscape and portrait, but I have a strange mounting-angle in my car so you probably be just fine.
The moving parts are tight enough, even on a bumpy road it does not change position.
Phone goes in perfect, and the usb connector can move on a little spring so when taking it out, bending it, you will not damage the connector on the phone. It's getting used to putting it in, but once you know it you be fine.
So, good thing, good quality, good holding of phone, can recommend.

Thanks, I think I'll order one on Friday.
Brodit has offered a sensation doc in pre-order now, might be worth waiting for it. I loved the brodit products ...
I will make pics, hard to make pics with the phone when it is in the dock Need to fetch another device for that. Maybe tonigt.
I'm mainly interested in some pics of the dock.
Sorry I posted in the wrong area.
Pic and vid for you.
The mount to the dashboard is self-made! The carkit has a sucktion-mounting, I made something myself to mount that sucktion plate to.
It clicks in really tight. Connecting it goes very well, just get the feeling.
Releasing it by pushing the right small piece that is sticking out, then it releases. It sits very good and stiff.
You're the man Riel! Great work on the vid, pic and mount!
Very cool. I'm getting that. HTC owes you a commission.
Nice.
Nice work, Riel.
I just have one concern: do you all think the device will still fit inside the mount, even whilst wearing the "barely-there" case from Case-Mate, for example?
I often rely on my phone's GPS, since I travel out-of-state alot... but I'm also not sure I want to snap off the case every time, just to place it in the mount.
Any insight?
Sweet, thanks for the video. Looks to be just as good build quality as the Nexus One car mount, and that thing was damn solid. Glad to see HTC didn't skimp on this one either.
Looks nice, but $65 is insane! You could buy a dedicated GPS for that price (and that would come with a mount).

über car dock setup

This is not a cheap setup, but nothing über ever is though is it.
Luckily T-Mobile decided to use the 17mm standard that Garmin uses for ball sockets so we can share accessories for them.
Parts Needed
ProClip mount for your vehicle - $30
(Optional) ProClip Dash Express GPS - Device Mounting Adapter - $25
Arkon Garmin 17mm ball to AMPS adapter - $8
T-Mobile G2x car dock - $30 or $10 on ebay
Process
Attach the ProClip mount to your car
Attach the female quick release to the mount
Attach the male quick release to the ball adapter
Connect quick releases together
Remove the phone holder from the windshield mount
Attach phone holder to ball mount
The quick release is optional, you can connect the Arkon ball adapter directly to your car mount without using it. I have several other devices I place there though so by having the quick release on all my devices it makes swapping them out very simple.

or you could just get the matching g2x holder that they offer.
Nevermind, I actually read your post this time.

I found the stock mount to be frustrating at best. It also caused my phone to overheat and trigger battery overheating alerts which I've never seen before anywhere else. The sun here in FL heats up the back of the holder which then heats up the phone causing it to have issues so having it in the window is not an option here. I also had to remove it completely from the window every time I wanted to put my sun shade up which is also a necessity here. Also the power cable snaking up to the windshield is unsightly and obnoxious.
Plus the window mount is just ugly in my opinion, I'd prefer to not have to look at it since it makes my car look ghetto which I do not want.
I went ahead and got the same setup as you, but I decided against the quick-release part. Also, instead of paying $29 to T-mobile for their holder, I found the same LG OEM holder on ebay for $10. But I got the Pro-clip mount like you, as well as the 17mm ball adapter from amazon.
Mine seems like it will mount in front of one of the in-dash a/c vents. That could be good during the summer, as the cold a/c will be blowing on the back of the holder. But I guess I"ll have to close that vent in the winter when I use my heater, lol.
Although, I"m sure yours will look slightly sexier in your corvette than mine in my malibu, lol.
I'll update the OP to have the eBay reference instead, that's a good one to save costs. I had gotten mine the day I got the phone so I at least got the 30% off of it but it's still way too expensive for what it is. Doing the cheaper T-Mobile mount and not doing the quick release makes it a much cheaper setup, and it's nice and stable. Also useful for those states like Cali that don't let you place items on your windshield except in very specific locations.
Yeh, I think with all of the components ordered, my total was about $58...definitely less than I had anticipated spending, so I'm very happy about that. I couldn't have made the decision without your review, so thanks again.
Can you guys point me to the phone holder with the ball mount "receiver" (into which the ball goes) on it?
Every G2x car dock holder I can find is just attached to a crappy suction cap arm thing. So, to reiterate, I need the thing the phone goes into (like a case) but with a ball receiver on the back.
thanks!
It's the LG G2x car dock that you buy from either T-mobile or you can get it cheaper on ebay. You just toss aside the suction cup assembly and use the holder with the other parts that are clearly listed in detail in the OP.
Btw, brentil, did you have to drill out the ProClip bracket? Or did you use screws instead? Because the mounting holes in my bracket are very tiny (too small for the nuts/bolts that came with the ball assembly) and are only about half-depth. The two options I see are, drilling or switching to screws instead of bolts...which direction did you go?
Mine actually came with screws and bolts. I bought mine 3 years ago though. They are small pointed screws.

Hi, brentil,
Just a note of thanks for the "heads-up" about LG and Garmin sharing the same 17mm ball-mount. My G2x will be sitting on the Garmin "beanbag" mount in a rental car in the next few weeks and I have the feeling that the Garmin windshield mount will be a lot less vibration prone than the OEM LG.
You RULE!
P.S. (everybody): slkwirelessessentials, on eBay, has the OEM LG 2X/G2x car docks for $ 7.99 with free shipping. They come in beat-up boxes, but they are new (they also have some "used" ones for a little less).
Busted out my calipers and was super excited to see them read 17mm since I knew that was a Garmin standard.

I already have a proclip mount for my garmin, this is damn handy. I've just placed an order on ebay for the LG dock. That with a cigarette lighter adapter for USB should handle everything I need. Thanks for the info guys.
just a heads up. placing in front of air vent is not a good idea. it caused issues with my hd2 by causing condensation to build up inside the battery area.

This is the OEM mount you're talking about? I didn't realize it was a universal-style pressure mount.

That's not the right one. You want one with the ball mount on the back that is the OEM official design.

Exogear ExoMount - Best Car Mount I have ever used

I dont see may people talk about this car mount so I though I would post this here. I have been using this mount for over a year now and it has been great. I started using it with my S4 then Note 3, One plus one, and now the Note 4. Is also one of the only ones that lets me still using a case on my phone. I am able to mount it on my dash due to the way the suction on this is. Its has been great.
I will try to get pics set up of its soon

You ever used a Ram Mount? That's the best I've ever used.

Looks promising. I'm gonna look at this Ram car mount as well. Haven't had a car mount in ages and I want one this go round.
Edit: Both look bad ass! Anyone have experience with both mounts for a comparison?
I never heard of the Ram Mount till today. I will have to check them out. One thing I like about the Exogear one is that once you sick it to something, it never comes off. I never ever had it come off during the time I had it on the windows. I now have it on my dash in my new car and its the perfect area for it.
I have the Ibolt prodock and it fits the phone and holds it really good even if it has an otterbox defender protecting the phone. One thing to note tho (see what I did there), is that you cant get audio straight from USB any more, you would have to use and OTG cable and an external DAC.
I used this dock since the note 2 days and its been great!

Sticking to anything is what is interesting me the most. The Ram doesn't seem to have that gel like suction cup. I want to be able to mount this baby on my dash, yet have the versatility to take it out and use it in other vehicles. Ithink I'm gonna give exogear a try even though to Ram has a lot of options and looks very cool as well. You could actually use either as a dash cam if you want. It looks like neither blocks the rear camera view. IDK.
I agree about Exogear. I've been using the ExoMount Touch CD Slot Car Mount for about a week now, and the thing is great!
Really sturdy, no sharking while driving, grip is tight, and the twists are really good too. Would definitely recommend to everyone who needs something to hold the phone in the car.
Granted I'm ProClip biased, but I hate windshield, vent, and CD tray mounts. To me they look like junk and not integrated into the car's dash. I ended up taking out my Sirius because having it and my phone on the center console was looking a little busy. But that's just me. And if you live in cali, you can't have things mounted to your windshield I believe. Don't know if any other states have that rule.
And sometimes ProClip doesn't have the perfect mount option for the car, but that can be worked around. Their adjustable cases are the best out there, especially since most of us are throwing cases on our phone. I see all these threads every time someone gets a new phone. I've had the same adjustable cradle so check the original Galaxy days with my Epic. And my Note with a slim case just fits. Haven't bought a new mount in years.

Yes, I use this Spigen case: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MAWRQR6/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item
If you're worried about it fitting into the mount, don't be. There is still room for another layer of a case on top of existing case.. maybe even 2 more cases on top
Decisions! I was set to go with exogear but that Ram tho! Aluminum grade construction and you can mount your ball sack if you buy the right kit. I'd have to get a separate adhesive for the mount, but this thing looks rock solid.
That one looks nice... but I LOVE this mount!!!
Sticks to anything and is hard to even pull off. The mounting system is easy too... push it an it locks in place. I have had 2 for about 1 year and not issues. I used to always buy the phone specific mounts, but that got expensive.

Because I lease my car I don't want any mount that uses an adhesive. If it's strong enough to hold the mount & phone it will probably be very difficult if not impossible to remove without causing a mark which would be considered damage on a lease turn in.
I have not had that problem. I used to move my mount from 2 cars and it did not leave any marks on the dash. The one I use does not use adhesive. Thats why the exogear and the Iottie works to well.
This is what I use and I love it! Note, it will not work with all cars, but it works with mine perfectly fine.
The reason I say it will not work with all cars is because I have a friend who has a '14 civic sedan, doesnt work because phone would end up being too high, another friend has a '14 prius which cd slot is behind the nav screen which slides down, I have an audi and it works perfectly.

I deal with people with leased cars all the time. They buy the adjustable holder once, and of course the appropriate dash mount for their car. The mount clips into crevices in the dash so no damage is done. When you turn in the car, pop the mount off, buy the mount for your new car and reattach the cradle. Sell the old mount on ebay to make a few dollars back.

I hope Ibolt fixed all the problems they had with their dock. I had one for my note 2. Then they updated their product due to problems so I bought the new one. The new version has problems to and would wear out. That is why I changed to the Exogear one. Plus when I had it on my windows, it would full off the windows on hot days. never had that problem with the Exogear. I like the Aux hook up on the ibolt but once i got a 40 Apt x connector I no longer need it.
If anyone needs a good apt x bt to aux device take a look at this.

I've used a CD mount for years. I wish there was something else as reliable. My mount covers the receiver's panel.
I have the exo gear and its awesome
