as the title states - a) want to be able to import custom tones (I have 4 client emails account not all important but want a way to distuguish which is which) this doesnt seem possible ? this can't be right?
b) use as a modem - can see way round that either see like a massive oversight? would prefer to use as bt modem as well?
anyone?
It looks like Mango (due very soon -- Sept??) looks like it has all of the hooks to enable these features. Or, if you are so inclined, you can get the beta, but at this point, I'm waiting.
I'm contemplating getting my 14yo daughter an Android phone for xmas. I want to be able to restrict internet access at the OS level. I've looked into the parental control apps but all of the ones I looked at are pretty easy to circumvent. I figure using hosts.allow and hosts.deny is a better solution (i.e. hopefully take her longer to figure out) but from what I can determine, Android by default doesn't use these files.
Does anyone know of a ROM or kernel that does use these files a la conventional linux?
If not, what are recommendations for restricting internet access?
So here is my request and pleed:
Please create anyone an app which is possible to change the WP7 Device into a wifistick,so that you can connect your pc through your Phone to your wifi, this would be absolutely great, and if it is not possible to create an app for me and all the guy´s who have requests for this missing feature because of time,or other reasons than impossibility then please tell me anyone of you how the code must work, which api´s and so on i´ll need so that i´ll be able to create such´n app by myself, because i´ve visualstudio and can do some programming
thx for any answer
What Phone do you have ? Is it unlocked ?
The app "Mango Webserver" (in dev & hacking sub-forum) can already kind-of do this, because you can uload files using your web browser, then download them later on another computer.
If you want to create an app that is dedicated to the purpose, the first questions would be how do you want the PC to see the phone (using a browser like Mango Webserver app, or using a dedicated program, or what) and do you want this to be a marketplace app, or is using unofficial APIs OK?
So i have an unlocked Omnia 7(fullyunlock + interop(it is really interopunlocked believe me,don´t ask)) ,the way i want to use it is like a wifistick/modem or so,if it is unofficial or not therefore doesn´t interest me,but i thought that it eventually would be able to get this feature for more devices,so that it would have some more attention as only for samsung devices
so thx again for any answer
Hmm sorry, I misinterpreted your request. You want to use the phone as a WiFi network interface for the computer. ("wifistick" doesn't mean anything to me; never heard the term before.)
I don't currently know of a way to do that. You can use your phone to connect the PC to the Internet (using wired tethering), but that just turns the phone into a cellular modem. To do what you're asking, you'd need to either bridge the WiFi and ethernet-over-USB connections, or you'd need to set up Internet connection sharing between the WiFi and USB (like the official "Internet sharing" feature, except that one is between the cellular radio and the WiFi).
Yeah thats what i mean, but i think it must be possible anyway, because for wm devices that was available and also for androidphones such a function is available, why shouldn´t it work with wp7 devices?
Oh, it's possible. You'd need to use native code and probably need to have more permissions than a normal app allows, though. Just because an OS *can* do something doesn't mean that the software to do it is available.
I already listed the two most reasonable approaches to doing it. I'm not sure if WP7 supports connection bridging, so the first might not be possible. The second certainly is, though.
All,
I was curious to know if there was a "modified" .apk available (perhaps extracted from a Droid Razr or T-Mo SGSII) that supported the full remote control features of the LogMeInRescue+mobile subscription (which I have) to allow for full remote control (not just file system access) on any Android device? Example is the ZumoCast app which was modified to work on non-moto devices.
For further clarification for those who may not fully understand what I am asking for:
1. This is not about controlling a computer with your phone, but the exact opposite (so don't say just use LogMeIn, it is different than rescue+mobile)
2. The LogMeInRescue+Mobile app available in the play store will only allow file transfers
3. The full version of LogMeInRescue (which allows full remote control) is included in the factory roms of only a limited number of devices, the Droid Razr being an example. For more info, look here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBadDUXOBuc
I suspect there is some dumb marketing reason why this app isn't available to all devices on all carriers, but as a subscriber to the rescue+mobile service, it frustrates me to no end that I can't put this on any android device, and I am hoping someone else knows what I am talking about and has built this apk from a ROM and given it the "zumocast" treatment.
Anyone? Thanks in advance!
update?
Did you ever find a solution for this? I am having the same problem
Hi,
I'm looking for information on bundling/piggybacking/packaging my new app B on an upgrade to my existing app A on the next upgrade of A.
I want to understand the experience assuming that A (at least the base version) is a system app - can I somehow make B a system app as well (I'm guessing not), what happens when the user removes either A or B (I'm guessing both gets removed).
To makes things a bit more interesting, what happens if A is "mine" but I like to bundle B from a different developer?
Any docs / links will be appreciated.
Thanks!
