Battery metter issue with Motorola Milestone - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I recently bought a Sedio Extended Life Battery for my Motorola Milestone. The battery its great, it lasted more than 31 hours of heavy use. However it has a little issue, related to Milestone firmware. Here's what Seidio has to say:
" Motorola Droid is not able to read the battery meter correctly because of Motorola's programming limitation. The firmware was wrote to not accept higher capacity batteries than the OEM ones. Therefore, when you have our 2600mAh, you may get some incorrect readings."
Since there are excellent developers here, I was wondering if someone can develop a hack so the battery metter reflects the correct battery life left.
Actually you have to reboot the phone several times a day, to avoid the annoying red led, because the battery metter quickly drops to 5% and it stays there for dozens of hours.
I want to know if its possible to edit a file or hack something in the phone to make the battery metter accurate with this new battery.
Thanks a lot .
Whipon.

I know that it is probably too late now, but instead of an extended battery I bought a battery extender by Sanyo. It is still a small package with 5000mAh that will provide over 3 full charges for the Milestone without the hassle of turning the phone off and on to change the battery.
It gas 2 USB outputs so you can charge two devices at the same time and it work with all devices I currently own that are battery operated.
To me it is a much better solution than an extended/ spare battery.

I see. How is that supposed to solve my problem?.
Your solution doesn't apply to me, because I don't wan't to carry extra packages. Additionally I can't.
I'll change my question: can some expert point me to what I need to edit / hack in order to manage that the battery meter shows the real battery life left?. Where can I take a look?.
Thanks.

I just wanted to be helpful and say that maybe carrying a portable charger will be easier than having poor battery with no support on the phone side.

First the battery is not poor at all. It rocks. It lasted 31 hours of heavy usage.
On the other hand, I can't carry a portable charger.
I don't want an alternative to my battery, because the battery performance its outstanding.

I suggest you to use "battery left widget"...you can find it on the market.
Personally, i dont like sedio tumor extended battery..its big and ugly
Same like Szadzik i use sanyo 5000 mAh external battery and momax battery as my primary battery

I'm currently using Battery Left and is very inaccurate. It shows one reading, then you reboot to get rid of the red led and it shows another different one. I tried to calibrate it two times as indicated by the developer with the same results.
It seems nobody can fulfill mi request, I only got bad critics about my battery by people that never has tried it.

i know sum1 got a project liek this done on scriptlance, see if u can post it on ther or find the guy and get it from him

Horrible battery

I'm having a horrible battery life. I don't know if its pyro-ice or just the phone. Although I've been battery problems since I got the phone. Any suggestions?

There is a break in the life because the phone shut off. Its been happening since I got a new htc battery
Pyroice mt4gs
If your on the stock battery then that is normal dude.
Get either a Mugen or an Anker.
Delivered via candygram for Mr. Mongo.
I figured bit I just wanted to ask some people who know what they talk about.
Pyroice mt4gs
i have the stock battery that came with it and have great battery life on 1.0.3. Where did you get your battery? Could you have gotten hornswaggled? Also have you tryed recalibrating your battery using the advanced option in clockwork or the Recalibration app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
I have used the battery calibration app. Should I try doing it in recovery?
Pyroice mt4gs
I'm pretty sure they do the same thing, recovery verses recal app. If you haven't already, i would drain it completely and then let it charge with the phone off overnight to ensure it's full. and then run recalibration. In the meantime Ill pay attention to what i get on a daily average and we can compare. You shouldn't be > 70% after 3 hours doing nothing.
I'm on pyro ice with the stock battery and have the same problem. I just stay near a charger!
How long does a full charge last?
A lot depends on signal quality as well.
If I dnt use the screen too much I can get around 18-23 hrs on good signal, but worse with bad.
sent from HTC Doubleshot pyroiced
I've had pretty good luck with the Anker. I'm using Juice defender too. Usually make through pretty long days.
Sent from my Bulletproof_Doubleshot 1.1 using Tapatalk
If I actually let it die I could get 5-6 hours. If I don't use it at all I get more. I called htc the guy told me its normal to get this kind of life. I think that is unacceptable.
Pyroice mt4gs
I get a max of 13hours on mine. No matter what I do I cant make it any better. On stock battery though.
Is the Anker 1900mAh battery that much better than the stock? I've seen people report at least 20hrs on heavy usage.

signal quality, background apps, also im using only one connection type at once only and switch manually between 2G / 3G mobile net.
and yes, im on anker, ordered the two + charger package... but just be aware those who have it, the UK dealer is resending me a new charger, as they tell that anker warned them its dangerous to charge through the USB part of anker charger, at least with those that were traded out in december for me...
I think when I get paid I'm going for the 2 anker batteries and charger.

I do just about the same. Flashed with the ExtremeUV kernel, though. Given our horrible network and no 4G, i usually just stick to 2G because 3G causes my phone to heat up. When am at home I switch to wi-fi. All my setcpu profiles are on powersave mode except on call.
i went through the battery recalibration process too, set my brightness setting to manual 20% during the day and 0% in teh evening.
I can't possibly think of anything else to increase those hours.
I will be ordering one of those ankers. I guess the stock battery will make a good secondary battery.

Every time you let this type of battery completely die, part of it will never work again and dies forever.
Much better to stop at 2-5% then go to full empty, you hurt your battery for no good reason.
To properly break in a new battery, you need to bring it to full, then to that 2-5% mark 4 or 5 times in a row, it exercises the cells and gets them ready to work.
This may be helpful:
Everything you wanted to know about Li-Ion batteries but were afraid to ask!
Edit:
And this:
Battery:
- Spare batteries for the MT4GS? Anker for the win!!
- Mugen Power batteries (1800mAh and 3600mAh) for MyTouch 4G Slide?
- Anker or Mugen???
- Generic 1800mah batteries from Ebay?
- Can we use Sensation Seidio batteries?
- external battery pack! Awesome!
(happened to be putting battery links together in my reference, so figured i'd toss that part in here too)

Andida 1800mah battery

Purchased this battery on ebay the other week and its been great. so far I've been conditioning the battery as stated in the ebay seller post by draining the battery 4 times. Each time the battery lasts longer and longer. Average battery life on the stock oem was about 14hrs with moderate use. The new battery has so far been 16+ hours with today giving me 20 hours. The stock battery never gave me this kind of life before. For $15 I'd say this is a steal for the ammount of performance you get. The seller I got the battery from was called ladyblue, I will post a link to the store when I get to my pc later today.
EDIT: Here's the link

Interesting... but no special brand?
And the size is not bigger? I saw a battery which was bigger than the normal one and comes with a special case.
No special case, it fits in the same slot. It definitely weighs more than the OEM battery. Andida is big brand, they make batteries for lots of phones just check out the rest of the store. Andida even has a web page http://www.andida.hk/en/main.asp
I could have sworn any larger mah batteries - EDIT - for the Nexus One -/EDIT- would require the battery to be larger then the stock...
Kind of skeptical on this one.
Perhaps I will order this, it sounds really good and the price is not too high.
As long the battery will not explode around me...

No, the battery reads 1450-1500mAh. I just got it and calibrated it once already. I want to do a drain test and see if does any better than the stock battery before leaving negative feedback on the item.
IMO it lasts a bit longer than the stock battery. Its not anything mind blowing but you get like an hour or two more than what you did before... i noticed that the battery screws around with the Battery status. Sometimes you will see that its at like 15% but if you leave the screen off it will "Charge up" and it will go up to like 23%.

Note: you gotta drain it and fully charge it 4 times charging it to 100% and leaving it there for 20 min..

How long does your phone work and under which conditions ?
well, it's hard to say. it depends on how to use. for me, it lasts all day(daytime), compair to an orignal one lasting about 8h.

Sounds good!
Thanks the for recommendation. It looks like the N1 will get Jelly Bean thanks to Evelvolv, so why not give the trusty One a new battery.
I have this battery for some like three weeks.
Problem is calibration.
I had the problem that I missed just an hour battery time with my stock battery every day.
This is no problem with this battery anymore.
Yet I guess the performance could be better it will go only to 92% of full load, at least said so by the nexus one battery calibrator.
Also when the battery goes low at some point android will report a low battery and display a yellow bar. Short time later it is back to green. I guess this is due to false calibration.
I want to calibrate it with nexus one battery calibrator.
But here I can not set the maximum of 1800mAh it will only set a really high number of "27306" when I try to set "1800".
Also Capacity is said to be 104856 mAh.
Anyone with the same problem?
as i said, it works well with CM7.2. it indicates a battery life in the way it should be.

I tried the one from the thread.
I guess it is due to the battery sending false data or the app reading it wrong.
I calibrated it manually now.
I discharged it completly. Then put it on again with the charger connected.
I pulled the charger when it was booted and let it discharge for about a minute or such.
Then I set it to airplane and did not touch it overnight.
Now the battery runs much longer.
I had with stock battery after a normal day of use usually not enough battery. It usually died in the evening at work.
Now leaving work I still have a bit less than half of the battery left.
Great!
Great stuff

Replacement battery for Nokia 8

Hello,
I'd like to show you my private comments and tests on the battery for this great phone.
I tested many replacement battery for Nokia 8.
A lot of people have trouble buying a new battery with sufficient capacity.
I checked some batteries. Original is identified as HE328 -3030mah -nominal capacity.
Original Battery look like this:

Fake Battery available on internet looks like this:
Many retailers report that the batteries come from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, it's not true I checked 3-4 batteries like this in picture. All batteries had almost 50% real capacity.
My almost 3-years original he328 battery have best capacity like below:
I've decided to test the battery from aliexpress Wonkegonke
This first charge cycle I am positively surprised at the performance of this battery.
I hope the information will help you fix many phones.
This post will be edited next time. Almost 20hrs usage.
Almost 24hr from last charge. Phone used normally without any issues
I end day like with my Nokia 8 with original HE328 battery.
Ok i want to show you battery health "WonkeGonke" from aliexpress after 4 sessions.
additionally, I checked battery capacity via ADB in PC:
Real capacity is 2829 Mah 91% from 3090 Mah. This is good capacity i think
Thank You
Thx man :good:... nice to know that when my battery dies I wouldn't have to throw away my beloved Nokia 8
quick question... what app r u using to measure the capacity?
This app is named AccuBattery is installed from Google Play. Nokia 8 is one of phones which can measure battery capacity almost accurately
Uh, "Genuine" looking fake batteries are in action as always ?. I learned what means genuine battery a couple of years ago. Most of them haven't the nominal capacity as it supposed. Beside this fact, they haven't a proper NTC resistor (which is temperature sensor). I want to ask a question even i know the answer (maybe it makes me surprised). Could you check battery temperature with different scenarios (daily and heavy) via AIDA64 and post the screenshots here?
I can check that, although as I remember, one of these batteries displayed the temperature probably correctly.

Design capacity seems to be 3500 so at 2800 seems to be at 80%? The question if it will stay there. I cannot find the link in Aliexpress by the way
For better marketing, the manufacturer gives overstated parameters.

can confirm is the battery temp sensor always stays at a fixed temp or it is actually working?
i bought 3 times the battery my Nokia 8. All of them only have around 1400~1500mAh and the temp sensor always showing 27deg.
Further testing found out all the fake batteries can't do Quick Charge at 7v,9v, or 12v. It only can do 5v 3A charging.

I experienced this problem on my old Zenfone 2. All batteries i bought were fake. They all had same capacity (2400mah) and fixed temperature. It was really hard to decide which is fake/genuine.
After several years, my NB1's battery is getting older and probably I'm gonna replace the battery in a year. So it would happen again and it's good to know which one is fake. Can you post the links you bought from or images of the battery? It would be really appreciated and helpful for us?.

I bought from Shopee Malaysia. I see most of the seller posted the item image is different than actual product received. From the picture you can see the bottom of the fake one is different. And the fake capacity battery is half the thickness of the original battery. Anyway, I ordered the WONKEGONKE brand from their shop in AliExpress. Will try out and update here.

My fake batteries always quick charged. When I'm at home I will check how wonkegonke behaves.
Wonkegonke is one battery what working better than any other fake. Please provide accubattery stats.

Much thanks brother for all you work and information. So here's is my story, same problem, some said software issue, Google Services and its fellows, OTA, even holy motherboard.
But after wondering and desperately hunting internet, I finally found the culprit and replaced battery from a local store, it was exactly like you posted and that old one on the device, again after around 7 months, now I'm having same issues, so was planning to go visit official nokia care and get replaced despite the cost, but just moment ago, saw a comment posted by an indian user having same issue even after replacement from a Nokia Care Center.
So i want to consider this time, is that one from aliexpress that good ? and working fine till date ?

1100 mAh battery

Hi, did anyone try 1100 mah battery for Huawei Watch 2? I found it on aliexpress, stock battery is 420mAh and it's not enough for a normal use. 1100 mAh should be better but i'm scared it can burn or damage the watch? Anyone has been more brave than me?
Well, nobody answered, but I can tell you it's 100% scam.
Physically it's impossible to build such small battery with such capacity.
It's interesting that this seller has sold 39. But they sell HW1 and HW2 1400mah and 1100mah respectively. Their batteries are a lot more expensive then the regular 420mah batteries. SO it does make me wonder if these are higher capacity batteries.
If there is room for a slightly thicker and bigger battery than the original then it is possible to archive a higher capacity. Though 1100mah seems pretty ridiculous I would be curious to know what the true capacity is.

I ordered it, will test
I ordered it too and it arrived yesterday.
I installed the battery but I broke one of the plastic luggs off the watch that allow the strap to clip in so all my testing so far is in "off wrist-mode" which disable's the AMOLED hafter a period off time. I am making this clear as my watch is showing me i am likely to get 3-4 days of usage. Previously it was 1-1.5 days. This all made me very excited. However I ran some debugging tests on ADB, specifically:
adb shell
dumpsys batterystats | grep "Capacity:"
Estimated power use (mAh):
Capacity: 410, Computed drain: 114, actual drain: 65.6-69.7

It's not reassuring to see the capacity listed as 410mah. I assume the watch reads the capacity from the battery itself as opposed to capacity being hardcoded in the rom/os. I suspect because it's a new battery that the health / capacity it much better than the older (4yr older) battery which is replaced. But also because the watch is "off-wrist" I am going to see better performance.
As for the second command above I am little unsure how to interpret it. i thought maybe these were reference to total and current mah
POWER_SUPPLY_CHARGE_FULL=408
POWER_SUPPLY_CHARGE_NOW=342
What are your findings? ad14051991
My lug broke off and I only fixed it yesterday so only testing battery life now.

My first test I left it off my wrist and it lasted 4 days. But I think when it's off wrist it goes into power saving mode because it doesn't need to detect heart-rate (if enabled) however I still felt 4 days was an improvement.
But then I left the watch battery flat for 2 months. Fixed the lugged and started wearing the watch again. The last 2 charges have lasted about 2 days. Which is similar to what I was getting with the stock battery.
I am unsure if leaving the battery flat for 2 months has done any damage or change to the capacity. But since it was a new healthy battery I imagine it hasn't. Perhaps I need to leave the watch off wrist again and see if I get 4 days still.
I guess results are still inconclusive at this time.
Please keep us posted with the testing.
Double the battery capacity would be the best improvement.

I side loaded accubattery which calculates the mAh drain vs percentage of battery added whilst charging. I have only run it down once but the results were better. 481 vs 410. Still way off 1100mAh but I'll see how it goes the next few drains.

^Spot on.
OP, just be glad it's seems within the OEM capacity range...

i have also changed the battery with an standard capacity one, and got the same results. however lost the heart rate monitor :-( and couldn't identify why....
