Hello,
I have an HTC Touch Cruise with windows mobile 6.1. I use it on my motorcycle with TOMTOM NAVIGATOR, and earphones. I config TOMTOM, push the today screen and lock my phone. It works perfect for 10 min.
After the 10 min, windows mobile displays a message:
"TOMTOM NAVIGATOR is still running an using the battery would you like to close NAVIGATOR", you must aswer the question with YES or NO.
If you do not answer the question, windows mobile close the NAVIGATION software. > very irritating....
Is there an solution to disable this battery saving function, so the NAVIGATION software must never stop automatically...
Thanks
I think you should go check out the Power configuration. it seems to be that after 10min the phone goes in standby mode.

Yes just power off and wait.
no solution
No that not the problem, i hav already tried. Look also at the picture
well, then it's caused by the software it self. did you go through the setting of tomtom? i'm sure you can disable it. but how do you use it when you go to the today screen?only with the headphones?

ah, now I understands this. so you minimize tomtom window!
I was so shure something is stealing focus from it but you've been doing it yourself
well then solution is easy, tomtom has to be on top. There is no option to disable this popup feature.
You need a diferent screen screen locker, you can't minimize TT (going to today screen)
try the one I am posting here, map it to a button (long press green)
this is from PHM tools, quite old, it will blank screen (no input possible)
to unblock you need to press 'action' button.
If this won't work, I am quite sure another will. search forum for one,
eventually you can set up autolock, but that's not too practical, you wound need to wait for it to lock screen before driving.
OR by doing this script:
- you run TT
- start the script and it would:
1. press start
2. press left softkey
3. return focus to TT
try all above options first, if nothing I can write you this script.

Folks, any idea how to switch off the screen / lock the keyboard without the need of double press the red power button?
This is kind of bothering cause when you're in a application and need quickly to put your Treo into your pocket, you need to press 1st to get to the home-screen and 2nd to switch off.
Yeah, seems to be something new with the 750 (no other treo before did this). Palm set this up purposely, so I wouldn't assume there's a workaround for it. You'll get used to double clicking
Not that I know
I have used it for ages and found many shortcuts but no "quick lock".
Sorry
How about getting an application that device locks your phone upon return from standby? I use BatteryStatus Today Plugin by Chi Tai Dang.. This plugin has the option to lock device on wakeup and set cpu speed(I use this a lot)..
But mine's a wizard, what do I know about Treo.. but what I do now is, press the power button to get the phone to go into standby and when I want to use it again, I press the power button and it will device lock upon wake up.
I don't have a Treo. How do you initiate said keyboard lock normally?

"Device lock" that you may know of isn't used on Treo's. Palm uses their own "keyguard," which uses the red END button as a power button when not on the phone. If you are on the today screen, one click will shut the device off. However, if you are in another program, the first tap brings you to the today screen, and the second click turns the screen off (and the keyguard on if you have selected it to be that way). On all other treo's, WM or POS, one click of the end button would shut the screen off (unless you were on the phone obviously, it would be the END function), regardless of what program you were in. Palm changed this, I assume, to be like most cell phones, where when you press the END key it returns to the home screen, regardless of what you were doing. Like a RAZR would do.
Thats the best way I can explain it. You would be surprised Vijay on how many customizations Palm made to the OS.
Yes, I've heard that they did - thank Goodness one of the OEMs finally saw fit to do something original.
Hmm.. from what you describe, clicking twice doesn't seem like a very big chore... I did something similar in VJOkButt. Is it really necessary to convert the 2 clicks to 1 click? Investigating it barely seems worth the effort
V
I agree, hence my original post.
When you are on the today screen, it works normally. And you can double-click quite rapidly and it will work. Not a big deal for me.
yes guys, its not that dramatical, but still, it would be an improvement also considering that I want to stay in that one application (a note which I'm editing) and want to get there after waking up the device again without the need of again starting application, look for the last note, opening etc...
with HTC hermes and others the power button works exactly like this and its even better.
Hi all,
If you're using it two handed hold option (the white key, left hand end of row 3) and press the red button once - closes the app and powers off.
But you need an odd-shaped hand to do that one handed!
It is not that the double click isn't easy to do, it's waht fire00 said; if you are in an app, it closes it and then powers off. Case in point, this weekend while driving to a friend's house, I had directions in my email and would have liked to have turned off the phone, but then I would have to find the email again and open it up. On my Wizard, i would just turn it off and then back on and the email would be there for me.
Gotta be a reg hack for someone to find.

On my device, that method doesn't close the app. It just locks the keyboard and then powers off. When I power on again, the app is still running and on screen. I think that's what fire00 was looking for.

Option (hold)+Red Phone button is a nice alternative, but I'd really like to find a way to prevent the Red Phone from reverting to the Today screen, so I can power off directly with it with one press...Vodafone's excuse for specifically asking for it this way (every other phone's "End" button brings you back to the "home" screen) is ridiculous, these aren't like every other phone.
I installed HTC home plugin and now my red button wont let me go into standby. I uninstalled and still not working. Any ideas?
Side Button + Suspend
There is a thread at TreoCentral that explaines how to activate the side button and make it available for button assignment in the settings screen.
Second there is a small program called suspend.
I have mapped the 1 press of the side button to suspend and away we go.
1 - Click keyguards/screen off.
Also it resume in the place or program you left when you unlock it.

is there any way to password lock the phone by pressing power button? maybe registry settings, application, or other way? if some1 can explain how, it'll be really great.
tray icon application will be fine too.
If you enable the password feature, and set the time-out to 0, it should ask for a password every time you turn it on.
no, its not suits me, i have 2 minutes phone turn off setting, and i dont want phone to be locked in 2 minutes. all i need is to lock it with power button and auto lock set to 15 minutes.

Try this:
Kai's Device PIN on/off 1.2
Application Description
Do you protect your device with a password? Then you need this program. Assign it to a button and switch the device PIN comfortably on an off.
User-friendly in 3 steps explained
Deposit (save) the password (encrypted)
Recall by hardwarebutton: ON/OFF of device PIN (without new entering)
Example of use:
You were the hole day away on business and your device PIN is activated. When you get home and you do not want to enter always the device PIN . With this progam you can switch off the PIN easily and quick. On the next day, when you got to work, activate the PIN comfortably by a keystroke without reentering the PIN.
System requirements:
System: Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003, 2003 SE, WM 5, WM 6
Screen: 240x320 Pixel or higher
Processors: Samsung, Intel® PXA XScale, StrongARM, OMAP
Its cheap, less than $5.
If it does not power the device off you could use mortscript to run this .exe & a power off .exe & map a script link to a button or an icon or voice command.
Hope this helps.

This program would meet your requirements by having a tray icon or launcher icon.
Mapping it to the power button may not be possible but it could be mapped to any other button if wanted.
This is the only password auto locking software using the standard device lock available.
Your only other option is to create a password on/off MortScript to run Settings/Password and auto input your 4 digit code, tick the required boxes & then run a device off.exe, done this on my old Magician a few years back., works well but its a bit crude compared to Kia's software.
i've download similar application(PSShut XP), but this app doing same as u describe, its runs settings\password lock, and then password promt appears, and u can simply click menue\cancel ). maybe this was working in windows 2003 or wm5, but im using wm6. only thing i've found for that case is vb function SHDeviceLockAndPrompt(), and i need to download SDK and compile an .exe, but im looking easier solution for that problem
clarification
I believe I am also looking for the same functionality:
-scenario: you power off the phone via hardware button and put it in your pocket. In your poocket, the button is pressed accidentally, and because the password lock has not yet auto-activated, the screen is active and you accidentally call your boss, or a total stranger
If this is your scenario, there is a 'screen saver' called MortSaver that can prevent this situation: it requires you to press a 2nd hardware button (user defined) to fully close the screensaver. unfortunately it will not instantly enable the password lock.
this does seem like nothing more than a simple api call, but i would be surprised if there isnt an .exe somewhere to do it aready. will have a look around.

S2U2 has a PIN lock, but yes it is a tad on the big side.
Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a screen lock for Tomtom software. I have the polaris running V7 of tomtom. The problem is I use it with the motorbike and earpiece.
So basically I set the destination, drop it in my pockets and listen for directions however the screen needs to be active. If it looses focus or the screen goes blank then directions updates stop. Otherwise the screen keeps getting pressed while riding so directions get interrupted.
Anyway I can get around this. tom tom screen lock would be great.
Hi Dusty, I'm a biker too so I already faced (and solved) that!
There are two problems using TomTom as we need to use:
1. if Polaris goes in sleep mode (blank screen), TomTom looses focus and stops working;
2. random screen taps (typically wen you store your PDA in a pocket) can of course modify/interrupts itineraries.
To solve both of them, I suggest you not to use any third parties' screen lock.
Just do as follows:
set your battery saver off (so your Polaris never get sleep);
launch TomTom and choose your destination;
go back to WM without quitting TomTom (you can easily do that setting one of the hw buttons to launch "Today" screen);
use stock WM screen lock
enjoy your ride
Hi
Could you, please, explain what is "stock WM screen lock" exactly?
Does it a 3rd party application itself?
I have TomTom V6. I stops to respond when it goes to the system tray, which means that the trick with "Today" is not good enough for TT V6.
Regards.
PS. Correction: I was wrong, TomTom V6 works when in the system tray
The stock WM screen locker is an utility I've found preloaded on my Polaris so I do believe is a standard WM tool (see first picture, it's the red rounded icon).
I also have TT6 (see second picture) and it continues to work fine when I press the Hw button that brings me to "Today" (I assigned the "explorer" button, but you can configure any other Hw command).
Thank you very much, deepblue68
I was wrong, your advise works fine!
Best regards!
Hmmm
I think the key is disabling screen saver/poweroff which is what it will do when on the home screen.
I have re-felashed my phone now and can't find a lock function (do know what you are talking about. Sure its just a little menu option somewhere.
Hi,
Is it posible to disable backlight dimming in WM6?
I don't want to send the device go to standby, just turn off it's backlight, let me give you an example:
In WM5, where backlight dimming was not implemented yet, i was using this:
Sleep mode settings: both disabled,
Backlight: both enabled (battery and external),
Device lock enabled on today screen.
This way i could 'wake' the device just by tapping on the screen or on any button, and the next step being unlocking it. The battery consumption in this mode is almost the same as with using standby mode. And another big benefit was much more stability in the OS and other applications because the system was never going into real standby. And of corse wifi and other things could remain on while in this 'standby' mode. Also, imagine using S2U2 in this mode...
But.. this scenario is no more posbile in WM6, because backlight does not go off anymore, but instead it dimms, leading to a fast battery consumption.
Moreover, device lock function become useless.
Someone sugested ScreenOff (or blackme) /and ScreenOn. Leaving alone that this would be a 'manual' solution, you can't tap on screen after using screenoff because screen is completely off, not only the backlight, and tapping does nothing.

Bump to keep this thread alive because I would really rather my phone working like that and have locking being actually useful. Because what's the point of locking your phone when it's gonna power off by itself anyway?
Hope people can come up with a solution soon. Maybe a registry edit to make the dim go to 0%.

thnx for support
I agree we need to get rid of dimming. Because that way S2U2 or any other lock program make no sense. I must first turn on the device then unlock. So locking is not needed because device is turned off.
I believe we should wake up microsoft to make a patch or an update or something about it.
If a general poll be posted i believe all the wm users would like - want this feature.
and maybe the admins as the xda community could declare our statement to microsoft.
What do you think?

I use S2U2 and I have it set to 'blank screen only' after 10 seconds. This means that by running s2u2.exe (which is mapped to a long press on a hardware button) it leaves the device locked with the screen off, but not suspended.

In the s2u2 settings, in the battery power section, 'Power Off in' is set to 10seconds, and 'but Blank Screen only' is set to ON.
I've assigned s2u2.exe to a hardware button using 'spb pocket plus', although if you want a free package which does that, you'll have to search around.

Hello
I ran into the same issue with ozi explorer. And the solution that work for me is:
-In Ozi, from the filemenu, choose "lock/display" then "display off".
-Then press the hardware "hang up/home"button once. (this takes you back to home screen, (of course you can´t see it though because the screen is off ).
-Then hold down homebutton again until the phone vibrates and the keylock is activated.
Now you can´t accidentally press any keys.
To wake it up, simply use the standard button on top of the phone, deactivate key lock. And re-enter Ozi.
For me It works fine, Gps keeps the fix, so i can record tracks while screen is off.
Hope It helps u
I'm using this cab to use the gps when device is in standby. I don't know if it is good for what you want. I've got it from here, in xda-devs forum, but I don't remember the topic. Simply put the exe file to your device (storage card or device) and run it. Press ON and then close it. If you want to revert, just run the program again and press OFF and close it.

I must admit I've never had a problem with GPS when the phone goes into standby. I use sportypal for tracking my runs (ugh - that sounds gross, but honestly it's not!!) and it always continues to log my progress even in standby.
Memory Map
I use Memory Map when out cycling. I start the program, then press the power button to switch off the screen. At the end of my journey, I press the power button to re-activate the screen. The whole journey is logged.
I didn't need to add anything to my Topaz, so I guess the problem is with Ozi Explorer.
