So I just installed QuickSSHd (an ssh server) and started wifi tethering.
I connected my laptop to the wifi tether. Using my N1's wifi, I ssh'd into it.
I can transfer files wirelessly to and from my N1 at about 1 MB/s.
QuickSSHd is based on dropbear, but the install is as simple as picking a password and a port to listen on. When the N1 "sleeps" the transfer speed drops drastically, so QuickSSHd has an option to "keep awake", but I had to reboot my N1 to get it to work.

Hey all,
having a bit of trouble holding a USB tethered Wifi connection with my G1. It has the latest CM installed. When I leave it connected for a period of time, the USB connection (not the Wifi) will drop out, leaving me with an inability to access the internet on my PC (still works fine if accessing internet via phone browser).
I am currently at a loss as to what it could be... I have the screen set to not timeout, so it is not the Wifi connection dropping. Any thoughts?
How do I connect two Xoom WiFi together without needing a WiFi connection? I am thinking about file transfers between them and video phone. I understand the range limitations if it were Bluetooth.
I would also like to connect over a WiFi connection as well.
Thanx, Galen
Easiest way is with bluetooth and a bluetooth file transfer app available in the market (there are many). I use "BlueTooth File Transfer".
Wifi...not sure if you can setup the internal storage as a network share, launch a wifi tether app, then connect to the share from the other one - that would seem like a lot of effort.
ya I'd agree, bluetooth is the way to go. If you went wifi it would have to be some kind of adhoc type setup and I think i read somewhere that the XOOM cant/wont do adhoc
Before I had my Charge, I had an Imagio running WinMo 6.5. On that phone I ran an app called WiFi Router to share my Verizon Internet. The cool thing was that my phone cold also connect to my home Belkin router and as long as every other device was on the same network, they would all see the Internet via the Belkin (even the wired devices).
Now I have my Charge rooted and I am running Barnacle with no problems. But to share my Internet with all of my devices, I have to have a PC with a WiFi card and a Wired NIC then run ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)... yuck!
Is there any way I can share my Charge's Internet the same way I did on my Windows phone?
If there were a way to have the WiFi running at the same time as Barnacle, it might work as I need/want.
I'm using CM7 stable (7.0.3) with a Nexus One.
When I enable the hotspot feature without having the phone connected to my openvpn server, my laptop (connected to the hotspot) connects to the web fine. The phone's internet connection works fine as well.
But when I enable the feature while connected to the openvpn server, even though the internet works on the phone, my laptop connects to the hotspot but cannot send/receive any data. I can ping my phone from my laptop, but pings go unanswered for example to google.com or 8.8.8.8...
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here, how I can troubleshoot or how I can fix the problem?
PS. I'd like to have the phone connected to my openvpn server rather than my laptop while using the hotspot as the laptop's openvpn connection is unstable when using the phone's hotspot (I do't know why).
Thanks!
I think the problem is the Gateway used by the laptop to connect to the internet. When you activate the hotspot the laptop will use to connect to the internet as gateway the ip provided by 3G. When you activate the VPN the gateway is changed but the laptop can't tell that and it uses the wrong IP address.
I use Splashtop on my Asus Infinity TF-700 to remotely connect to my PC at the office. When I use Wifi, it works great.
However, whenever I try to tether the tablet to my Galaxy Nexus, Splashtop kills the hotspot connection and I must reboot the tablet and disable/re-enable hotspot on the GN. I am running AOKP 4.2.1 Build 2.
I say it "kills my hotspot" because while tethered before I starting Splashtop my tethered connection on the tablet works great. As soon as I open Splashtop on the tablet, my internet connection on the tablet is killed. Splashtop fails to remotely connect to my PC and no other apps can connect.
I've switching my connection from LTE to 3G and it has no effect. I contacted Splashtop support and they say that my tether probably cannot support the bandwidth, but I responded that I am able to get 7-11 MBPS on the tablet over the tether using LTE, streaming YouTubeHD. They basically have no answers and told me I should try upgrading to Android 4.2.2.
Anyone else here use Splashtop tethered thru your GN? Any ideas?
No splashtop cannot sustain connection over tethering to 3G/LTE. Splashtop 2 is a lot more effective but I still doubt you will have the sustained bandwidth.
Splashtop demands almost 100% of whatever it is connected to. It will effectively kill your router for other connections once it has taken hold.
