However when running the RUU, and i used the correct europe wwe version, it encountered the 170 usb error after rebooting, I tried running it again but wouldn't connect, so now my phone when it boots gets stuck on on the white splash logo, but I can enter HBOOT, is there anyway to get my phone back? all help will be much appreciated
Thanks
Try this - http://androidforums.com/incredible-tips-tricks/161463-ruu-error-170-171-solution-windows-7-a.html
those instructions still say that i need to be able to use the device to put it into HTC sync mode, however I don't get anywhere near that when booting. I'll still try it tho, but will the RUU still find it in HBOOT mode?
i had same problem..
see this.......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467351&page=2 and follow FRAKEARTH reply only...remaining u ignore...
do oem lock an drun your RUU make sure that your RUU is fine and USB cable too...as i had a cable with shield disconnected i could able to charge but gave lot of trouble...
Paste the error u get..
thanks for the reply
one question though, i dont have this fastboot, only the adb, is there a guide to get it, im not used to the desire s, have had a desire original until now, and also booting into fastboot mode, how is that done on the s?
thanks
@tht13
To start fastboot, (boot into hboot (power+vol down) then plug phone in "HBoot USB plug" shows once phone is plugged in and press the power button (fastboot is highlighted by default) then it says "Fastboot USB")
Then RUN the command "fastboot oem lock"
If that doesn't work run the command (assuming you have your fastboot set up on the PC right) "fastboot getvar all" and paste the results (removing wout serial/imei)
Search how to setup adb/fastboot on the PC
Okay, first of all I know, I'm a total noob. I have followed these forums a long time and have successfully rooted a few phones. One of which was my nexus s 4g. I was trying to unroot the phone so I could get ics. This is when I ran into problems and right now I just want to be able to get my phone working again. Right now I am stuck on the Miui boot up screen and no matter how long I wait it stays on that screen. If I do a battery pull and hold down power and vol up I can get into the bootloader screen with the information as follows: fastboot mode, product name-Herring, HW Version Rev 34, Bootloader version-D720SPAKE1, Baseband version-D720SPAKE1, Carrier info, SPR, serial number-37308B81276A00EC, Lock State-locked. Then the different options I can choose are reboot bootloader, reboot, recovery, power off. If I choose reboot, it takes me back to the mius screen and stays there. If I choose recovery, I get the triangle with the exclamation point. I then hold power and up volume again and I get a screen that says Android system recovery <3e> with reboot system now, apply update from sd card wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. I have tried all of these as well with no luck. When I go to apply update from sd card I get matrix-cfs_v15.5 zip, root.zip, update.zip and then what looks like apps such as Alarms/, Android/,MIUI?, etc. If I try to select any of the first ones such as matrix-cfs_v15.5 zip, I get Install /sdcard... , finding update package..., opening update package..., verifying update package..., E.signature verification failed, Installation aborted. Then it gives me the system recovery options again. Any help would be appreciated.
Did you try ADB fastboot method?
Not sure how to try that
I tried doing the adb, followed all directions and installed and when I go to the command prompt and type in anything, such as, adb reboot bootloader I get, adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
ok I got that working now but when I type adb devices and press enter I get a message saying List of devices attached and then it doesn't show anything and I get the command prompt again saying:c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools>
also since the phone is stuck in either the miui screen or bootloader I can't get into it to put it in usb debugging mode. I am trying on my own to get this going and am stuck any and all help would be very much appreciated.

I think that means you have a locked bootloader.
And from what you're telling, I believe you have stock recovery.
Also, when you're in fastboot mode, I don't think adb commands apply. Use fastboot commands instead (i.e. fastboot devices).
Search for guides showing you how to install and use fastboot.
I did fastboot as well and the problem I think I am having is it's not recognizing my phone because usb debugging wasn't turned on before it locked up. How would I get it to recognize my phone or download an img to my phone if it is not being recognized. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
You don't need usb debugging in fastboot mode.
You either:
1. Don't have drivers installed.
2. Don't have fastboot installed correctly.
You really need to read a guide or two, through and thoroughly.
Bc it sounds like you have no clues.
Yeah dude. Take a step back and go over what you have installed and where you installed it.Yes, fastboot commands start with fastboot instead of adb. And you're on stock recovery.
Thanks for the answer that I don't need usb debugging in fastboot mode, I wasn't sure of that. I have downloaded and installed my drivers multiple times and when I use the device manager to update drivers it says I have the latest drivers installed already. Whenever I do fastboot commands I will type in fastboot devices and shouldn't my device serial number come up? It just gives me the line c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools>
And is waiting on me to type a command in. And yes I have been looking at guides all night. I appreciate any help you guys might have and remember we were all noobs at one time.
The zip in this tutorial should help.
It has adb, fastboot, and the drivers needed.
And unlock the bootloader because it is locked.
Finally got it, I had everything downloaded that I needed already, but looking at different forums, etc, it seemed like everyone named it something different. So I just used the one link you gave me and did it exactly the same way and it worked. Thanks so much! and again thanks for your patience.

I tried to install SmartDroidBerserk 2.2 for my htc sensation tonight. After following the instructions on your website http(removeThis://)smartdroidromsDOTcom/berserk.htm I ran into a huge problem; I'm stuck on the HTC splash screen.
I followed the instructions up to where it said to flash the rom. I believe that I misread this part as meaning that you could install the rom from the zip on the sd card, so I tried to do so. I got an installation error with a status 1 message during the installation. I thought that if I tried to reboot my phone that I could try to reinstall the rom or revert back to an old backup through recovery and then try to actually flash the rom the 'proper' way.
I'm now stuck on the HTC splash screen and can't do anything with my smartphone. I tried to connect it to my computer to run adb to get it back into the bootloader. When I try adb devices it doesn't even recognize that my phone is attached. The same goes for fastboot devices - no return. When I go to my computer and try and select my phone as a removable disk, windows asks me to insert a disk into the disk drive because I formatted the phone during your installation process. After I discovered that I can't use adb to get back into the bootloader, I tried to press volume down and power at the same time but I still can't get into the bootloader with that method, it just stalls on the htc splash screen, not even displaying the "quietly brillant" slogan.
If there's anything that anyone can think that would help my situation, I'd be extremely grateful! I've got a 600$ brick!!

I was able to get into the bootloader by holding down Vol + power (guess I wasn't holding it down long enough). When I get into the bootloader and try to go into recovery my phone still gets stuck on the htc splash screen for some odd reason. I was able to get it to go into recovery without a problem (until now of course). I'm not able to get into recovery to restore my backup(s).

I'm reading over the unbricking project now and I'll try it tonight....this so sucks the big one (and hard).....

at least you managed to enter into the bootloader.then your device it is not bricked
there is no need to use it

yes, I put adb and fastboot in a folder C:\mini-adb and navigated to that folder. adb would print out 'attached devices are' and nothing below it when I would run adb devices. fastboot devices simply returned nothing.
I got to the second step part 9 where it asked me to fastboot reboot after flashing the recovery (which was successfully written) however when I try to reboot it just stays stuck on the htc splash screen still.
Sorry for the double post.. I just removed my battery and was able to go back into the bootloader and could get into recovery. I was able to restore a prior rooted backup but whenever I try to reboot my smartphone it loads into recovery and not into my rom.
I have the added problem of not being able to access the sd card where I would put the Android Revolution .zip file. Whenever I try to access the phone's drive windows ask me to please insert a disk into removable disk F:.
EDIT: I just used the rom in the opening post instead of using the Android Revolution rom and it installed just fine. I can use my phone again! Thanks so much rzr!

haha i was about to tell you now try flashing the rom to see if it will work but you already did it
happy for you man:good:
and you can always hit the thanks button if i really helped you somehow
I had the avatar custom ROM on my phone.
wanted to sell it, so went into CModRecovery and tried to restore my phone to a previous restore point i had, thinking that would be with the Tmobile stock.
Anyways, right after that, my phone was soft bricked, constantly restarting. At the beginning i was able to go into recovery, and i tried to restore it to the previous point again, but it didnt work, tried clearing cashe and stuff, but still didnt work, and then I dont know what happened, but all i can access now is bootloader, cant even acced CModRecovery anymore.
I know my phone is soft bricked, and I've found the original RUU Tmobile for my HTC one S, and im using the Hasoon all in one toolkit to try and factory reset it, but the problem is, I dont have USB Debugging enabled, and my phone is soft bricked, so I dont know how to enable it now, and I cant follow any of these tutorials for fixing the soft brick, without it enabled.
So now my question is, how can I enable USB Debugging with my phone in the state that it is (ie, only thing that acccessible is bootloader)
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I really appreciate any help.
I dont think you even need ADB at that point. From the bootloader you can enable fastboot (by selecting fastboot with volume keys and pressing power button to activate it). Then reflash the recovery from your PC by running fastboot flash recovery your-recovery-img.img Then you'd be able to access recovery again.
And when you restore a nandroid of another rom and are on a hboot version 1.09 or higher (and S-on) you also need to flash the boot part of the backup. So first you need to get the boot image to your PC from the phone. At least TWRP recovery has an option to mount storage as a USB drive, probably CWM has this also... Finally flash the boot image to your phone by booting the phone into bootloader, selecting fastboot mode as before, and then flashing the boot from your PC by running fastboot flash boot boot.img.
Hope this helps. I'm just writing what I would try in your situation .
Sent from my One S. Please hit thanks if I helped.
So this is what I did:
1. In bootloader, selected fastboot with the power button. Now im at the screen where it has 4 diff options: bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, and power down. Also on this screen, since I have the phone connected to the computer, it says FASTBOOT USB
2. So now I open up cmd and write what you said, fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (the cyanogen mod renamed to recovery)
3. And it says it failed.
4. So I cant proceed with the rest of what you said. I'm not sure why it failed, but does it have to do with the fact that my USB Debugging is maybe disabled, and thats why its not able to find the phone?
5. Because even when I was trying to get the Hasoon all in 1 toolkit to work, the reason I couldnt was because everytime I'd try something, it would say "device not found" in the cmd prompt window.
As I'm sure you can tell, I'm pretty confused :S

Did you relock the bootloader? Does it say *** RELOCKED *** or *** UNLOCKED *** in the top of the bootloader?
If it is *** RELOCKED *** then you need to unlock the bootloader again (here are nice guides for doing it. I don't remember the exact fastboot commands right now). If it says *** UNLOCKED *** then I'm unfortunately out of ideas. I did however do some googling and found this: http://www.askabouthugo.com/general...on-fastboot-with-remote-signature-verify-fail
And are you sure you are trying to flash an S4 version of the recovery and not an S3?
Hi. I am hoping someone can assist, I have an HTC one sv LTE. I think it's rooted it says S off in the bootloader. It is running Android 4.0.4,
I keep getting notifications for system updates. I download them but they won't install. I have tried to install a recovery ROM through bootloader/recovery but so far through it fails. Tried running RUU but when connect to PC it doesn't find the phone.
When started phone by pressing pwr with volume button down it gives this info

Somebody messed around on this phone! Hboot 2.0 means, it had Android 4.1 or 4.2.2 already installed.
But when you say, your running 4.0.4 it should be hboot 1.0.
The RUUshould run in your case, so what error do you get? Is USB Debugging on in Settings? Adb & fastboot driver installed? HTC Sync installed?

hi sorry about the delay I had to work late, the phone was bought from ebay by my son, it is has it came from ebay.
I have adb and fastboot drivers installed, but when I connect the phone to the laptop the laptop does not even see the phone.
when I run ruu from the laptop it says can not connect to android device
when I download update on the phone for the os it started to install gets about 3rd of the way through and stops showing a red triangle with an ! in the centre of it, only way to turn it off then is by pulling the battery. when I start phone in bootloader then select recovery it gives options to install from sd card where I coped the recovery file, it starts to install then stops saying signature verification failed installation aborted, I have taken some screen images so you can see, maybe you can work out what is going on

Well, your device is S-off, there are many ways to get latest software.
And this brings the question in my mind: what is the goal you wanna get? Latest Software?
Easiest way would be, to flash twrp recovery and restore a backup from 4.2.2. Should be an easy task, when the device is S-off.
To the RUU "thing", i have copied a guide from HTC website, how tro flash a RUU:
Performing the ROM Update:
1. Download and save the HTC One™ ROM update to your PC.
2. Connect your device to your PC via the supplied USB cable.
3. If the device is not recognized by the PC, ensure you have HTC Sync Manager installed and then disconnect and reconnect the device from the USB cable.
4. Once the device is properly recognized on the PC, locate the HTC One™ ROM Update that you downloaded. Double-click on the file to launch the system update wizard.
5. Follow all of the system update wizard instructions shown on your PC.
6. Once the update is complete, click Finish in the Wizard and the device will reboot.
7. Once the device reboots, the initial setup wizard will appear.
8. Once the initial setup process is complete, open Play Store and tap the Menu icon, then select My apps and ensure all installed apps are updated.
9. After initial setup and updating all apps, the device is ready for use.
Note : If the ROM update wizard fails to recognize the device, close the wizard and then follow the steps below:
· From a powered off state, hold VOLUME DOWN while powering on the device.
· Use the volume buttons to scroll to FASTBOOT and then press the POWER button to select it.
· Connect the device to the PC while in this state and attempt the ROM update again.
To exit FASTBOOT manually, use the volume keys to navigate to REBOOT and press the POWER button to select it.

yes it is S off, but I downloaded twrp app on the phone but when I open it I get the message the phone needs to be rooted and it closes so even though it says S off twrp does not recognise that its rooted,
when I connect the phone to the computer, the computer does not see the usb device and on the phone just the light to show is charging comes on, does not say usb debugging started or sync etc.
I do not know what has been done to this phone but seems nothing I try works,
I am not the most experienced I need expert help thats why I'm here.

If it isn't broken, we will get it done
We start with "minimal adb/fastboot" -> [TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot or go to the direkt download at afh
Install the exe file and choose a place like desktop, for installation.
Download HTC Sync, install it (software & drivers get installed), then uninstall HTC Sync (only the software, so drivers should stay on your pc).
Download this TWRP backup, which is the latest software for your device.
Unzip it (you will get a k2ul-3114011-422-sense5 folder with some boot, data, system files in it) and put it into a folder on external sdcard that has this folder structure:
TWRP\BACKUPS\Put in here the Serial number of your device (in UPPERCASE LETTERS)\k2ul-3114011-422-sense5
Connect your phone to your pc with usb cable, boot to fastboot mode (bootloader), go to your minimal adb folder and open a cmd window. Type into this window
Code:
fastboot devices
You should get an output with the serial number of your device.
Then we go to www.htcdev.com
Make an account and follow the unlock guide/process until you bootloader is unlocked. Note: you will loose all userdata, so backup everything what is important to you.
Download the TWRP_2871_Recovery.img.zip file here, unzip it, rename it to recovery.img and copy it to your minimal adb folder.
Go to the cmd window in your adb folder (device is again in fastboot mode) and flash the recovery by typing into the cmd
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now we boot to recovery and there go to wipe -> advanced (steps here could be named a little different, because this is an 2 years old version od TWRP and meanwhile some things have changed, so i'll explain how i remember the things).
Check system, boot, data & cache and swipe to wipe.
Go back to main menu -> restore and if everything was correct, you will see the backup you have downloaded before. Choose it and swipe to restore.
After the restore you should be able to boot into android 4.2.2 software.
If that was fine, we should flash latest firmware for the 4.2.2 software, but that step i'll explain if you are ready for it.
first let me express my thanks for your expert assistance and patience
ok now
download minimal adb/fastboot and install to desktop....... check
download htc sync complete with usb drivers install the uninstall sync leaving drivers installed ..... check
download twrp backup and unzip to sd card with file structure TWRP\BACKUPS\Put in here the Serial number of your device (in UPPERCASE LETTERS)\k2ul-3114011-422-sense5......... check
Download the TWRP_2871_Recovery.img.zip file here, unzip it, rename it to recovery.img and copy it to your minimal adb folder.......... check
connect phone to computer with usb with phone in bootloader...... fail
I opened cmd window in minimal adb, booted the phone in bootloader, put into fastboot
connected usb cable but it still said fastboot, didn't change to fastboot usb so anyway from cmd window I typed fastboot devices but nothing happen just the same line of code appeared on the line below
eg c:\ users\jules\desktop\minimal adb and fastboot> fastboot devices, hit enter
but all that happens is the same line appears below without the fastboot devices
c:\ users\jules\desktop\minimal adb and fastboot>
Ok, not sure whats the problem, but lets try another way first:
Make sure your phone is charged at least up to 50%.
Download this RUU: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960683578
Rename it to PL80IMG.zip (make sure it is not named PL80IMG.zip.zip) and copy it in the external sdcard. Boot into the bootloader and let the phone recognise the zip. Confirm to update with vol+ and let it run until its finished.
i have just done as you directed but it does not recognise the file, it just says no or wrong image ??
looks like some one has done a real crap job on this phone previously
Well, it seems so...
Few things: check if
- the name of the ruu is named correctly
- you have the file in root of your external sdcard
- the md5 sum of the downloaded file is the same as on the afh download site
About the fastboot not recognised:
- try another usb cable
- try another usb port
- or even try another pc
Other suggestion: Sunshine is an app to unlock/soff htc devices. One Sv is supported, as far as i know.
Maybe this app can unlock the phone without to use fastboot/adb connection. But it is a paid app and cost 25,- $.
Only if already used on the phone, the second unlock is free. Maybe worth a try...
would if work if I try through recovery in the bootloader menu?

Tbh, i don't know. Never tried this way, but the ruu should work, from root of external sdcard, when you are in bootloader (not fastboot mode).
Did the same yesterday with my One M8, without problems.
right now I am booting up my older desktop pc, it is windows 7, as laptop is windows 10, will download all software and drivers and try again, heres hoping lol
i have used my desk top computer, downloaded all again but still same result. phone does not see computer and computer does not see the phone,
this maybe a stupid question and if it is please forgive but could the charge/usb port on the phone be faulty?
Yes, possible.
Lets try another thing: go to tis thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386426 and follow the guide to downgrade hboot (download k2ul version). So we can see if your bootloader accepts PL80IMG.zip. And if succesful, the bootloader will match the software version.

Hi! Could somebody help? I have a factory unlocked HTC One SV. The phone doesn't turn on when I try to power it on. I also tried the volume up+power button hard reset, but it didn't worked.
When I connect it to the pc, the device manager says: Relink HS-USB Qdloader 9008 (com 5)
