trouble creating custom theme - Nexus One Themes and Apps

hi,
ive been trying to make my own theme and it installs fine in recovery mode but freezes at the boot animation. Ive signed both the framework-res.apk and the update.zip using testsign.jar and other themes ive tried work fine anyone got ideas how to fix it?
cheers,
ng93

you dont have really have to resign the framework-res.apk

tried again without signing the framework-res.apk but still wont work

bump
anyone?

What modification framework-res.apk you did?

just changed statusbar background/icons pngs and kept size the same

Png's should work and what about some xml files.

I'm using the old Metamorph which as mentioned in another thread, supposedly works for 2.2. (Let me know if I should remove the apk.)
And I'm using an old morph file with a .thm (changes 3 png files).
However, when I apply the theme and reboot, I immediately get constant force closes. I have to pull the battery out and restore my backup.
What am I doing wrong? Attached are my files.
I get the same problem using a theme/morph.
I get certificate authentication errors on AndroidManifest.xml when I debug.
However, if I manually insert the new png's I don't get this problem. I can't explain why.
I can't resign the new framework-res.apk either (well I can brut force sign it but then it fails to install).
Am still looking into this. Although I suspect a morpher/themer will solve it before me.
thats because it simply does not work. The 2.2 hasnt got an odex file in the services.jar. Morphs ARE working but the clock and operator text will remain black as there is NO way to bypass that as of now.

We're discussing framework-res.apk though. The attached morph doesn't touch services.jar.
Having said that... services.jar is no longer used (in 2.2) for the text colours, they're all in framework so far as I can tell.

this is correct. I have changed only one png inside framework-res.apk, and tried to morph it.
The phone keeps looping...
works fine for me. Make sure that the images you are replacing are there however my thm from my CM506 still works after i converted the thm to xml

Anyone tried making the change via an update.zip?

I tried but got a not signed error.
Though I don't think it would work anyway because I tried just pushing the framework apk through adb push, and the same result happened (1000x constant force closes).
Had to restore just the same as when using the morph (again, I didn't do anything but replace 3 png files).
The rom needs to be de-odexed........JF is hopefully working for an update for his app to get this done.
Changes will not take if the odex files are present.

Anyone have any ideas on how to make it work?

[SOLVED] Where to get this custom unlock??

I found this unlock screen somewhere, but I can't seem to find the file again and I need it when I flash because I am changing ROM's
Sorry for the poor quality. It's basically the default dragdown to unlock, but the bar is straight not curved and it is more transparent.
I have that lock screen.. running ' new guy" Rom with " nameless' theme...
Droid inc
Weird I can't find any info on it anywhere. I don't even know the name
It's just a modified htc lockscreen. All that's done is editing the lockscreen pngs in either framework-res or com.htc.resources.apk, can't remember which one they're in.

Yup
In com.htc.resources.apk > drawable-hdpi folder. 3 png's lockscreen_arc*
Try this

Works fine on mine but that may be because I'm running Redemptive, which uses Evo framework. Just make sure you nandroid first
That's it. Thank You
Can somebody port to the INC?

[Q] Restoring stock edit menu icons after theming?

Hey everybody, this is my first post here.
I recently installed Rubix Focused and the Linear theme for it. All is well and good except that some of the edit menu icons are themed and some are not. This really bugs me and I wanted to change them all back to the stock icons. I've found the icons inside of the framework.apk inside the linear theme zip, but when I replace them via 7zip and try to reinstall the theme, they aren't changed and my phone pretty much flips out.
Also some of the icons for other programs (Gmail, others) are also changed, I'm assuming whatever would work to fix the ones inside the framework apk would also work for changing out the icons in those specific apps.
So how do I go about doing this? I thought it would be a simple fix but I'm thinking I'm missing something during the process.
If you use the rubix zip u flashed...
Open it up with 7zip and pull ouy everything but the framwork-res.apk
Then reflash the new zip. I believe u can do this...read it in this forum somewhere...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Would I be reflashing Rubix's framework or the theme's (Linear)? The modified icons came from the theme installation.
Use the rubix framework if you want them to look like the stock rubix icons.

I replaced the icons in the theme with the icons I wanted and replace the framework file in the original theme's zip and deleted everything else, keeping the file structure to the framework file intact. It freezes whenever I try to install it now.

Alrighty, I ended up getting something to work. I used another simple theme mod's zip file and replaced the framework file with mine and installed fine. I'm guessing it had to do with signage or something.j Would life have been made easier if I used apk manager?
Yes, if you are just replacing images, apk manager would probably make life easier...
Sorry I didn't think to mention this before... was just trying to think of the easiest method to get you back to where you wanted to be in terms of look/feel.

Working with stock?
Tried this on the stock rom by extracting framework, systemui and com.htc.resource, phone bricked when i applied zip through cwm. Thankfully had a backup. Did anyone have success working with a stock rom?

Oh, did you use framework-res.apk?
Or framework.apk? Try to only use the framework file and just battery mod.

Framework file.
So its the framework.jar file you use? Cos my stock rom does not seem to have a framework apk file in the framework folder so i used the framework-res.apk
Works
Oh nevermind. Tried with the framework-res.apk and it worked. Thanks anyway.
Yes,you need to upload systemui.apk
maybe someone can post his litle work ?)
My little work
Experimented with both methods, uploading all 3 files and just uploading framework file. Second method worked. This is the battery i made using the kitchen. I am also running stock sense 2.3.3 on my desire s.
Circle battery with animation while charging.
Copy anywhere to SD, reboot into clockwork recovery, clear cache and davlik then apply update.

Cheers for making this one fella. Been having upload problems at work (and I forget at home). Wanted circle battery for ages now!
It's the blue circle for all who might want to know.
Anyone can upload all the 3 stock file heres?
framework-res.apk
com.htc.resource.apk
SystemUI.apk
or anyway i can extract/get myself
Many thanks
You can find them all using an app like astro file manager. Just copy to your SD card and then to pc. Location of files can be found with Google..l

ah ! THANKS =)
what happens if you select the rom rather than upload the files?
Also, do boot animations work?
Tried using the inbuilt rom settings but it didn't work. Not tried boot animations yet.

Works also with v1.47 rom , but framework from stock and 1.47 have different filesize (the uot-generated zip also is different). Once installed i've noticed no differences, but is better to install a proper 1.47 based battery

I've been using the kitchen on my Desire S since i got S-Off, not exactly a revelation that it works, it'll probably work on any HTC as long as you upload the required files.

Rom building woes.

Ok, so i took the dive into trying to build a rom, I've broken pretty much everything possible. Thanks to the help from UOT kitchen though for helping me theme. I'm trying to use the 2.3.5 base but im having some problems with SystemUI.apk. I can decompile it, modify it, and when i build it the file errors out and is junk.
UOT kitchen decides to not set some of the settings i requested. The notifications dropdown SHOULD have black text but its white and cyan. I also want the text in the clear button cyan but rebuilding systemUI screws up saying theres a bad line of code but is vague on where it is. I've even decompiled and recompiled the systemui.apk without changing it and it fails.
I'm thinking of trying the la3 base and seeing what happens.
Screenshots below of my ventures and failures. The one IS of the 14 toggle mod, all themed, the other are the ics smilies themed as well. But as you can see the text on the notifications wont stick. I guess im getting somewhere for not knowing what im doing lol.
EDIT: Also, where is that damn phone icon .png at? ive themed browser, calendar, email etc. But the phone one is hiding...
One of the .9's could be messed up when you edited them. That's what happened to me. I didn't know how to fix it but what I did was I took the original unedited system.ui apk, decompiled and changed all the xml's first then recompiled. Then I just drag and dropped my edited images from the system.ui apk where I edited the images beforehand.

I can decompile the systemui WITHOUT modifying it and then compile it and it still fails with the same error. Idk what it is. For images i dont decompile at all i just throw them in there. But when i mess with an xml thats when i compile.
Ive compiled other APK's fine. I dont know why that one hates me so much.
I'm sorry rains Im a disgrace I didn't even allow my lazy ass to release the update I promised well raais ill help u with this
Do you have GIMP image edit program? its a vital tool
The phone icon is in contacts.apk
(Ic_launcher_phone_icon) or something
EDIT: its a goood idea to decompile systemui.apk using apkmanager with the framework-res.apk also in the place here for modify folder
I'm out of it I can't think right anymore sorry my friend

If all you do is decompile and only mess with the xml's without modifying the images and then recompile but it still gives you errors then it has to be one of the xml's your editing that's causing it.
You probably already know that but thats all I can think of.

I think the systemui file is just bad to begin with. Without edits it still craps out.
Wait so you tried decompiling and recompiling right after without edits? And it still didn't work? Then it must have to do with apk tool. Did you try replacing the "1" in the apk tool folder with framework-res.apk?
