The ddms tool in the Android SDK will get screen captures over USB Debug of course.
Anything remotely?
I don't think it's possible without root because you need to take snapshots of your phone and taking snapshots needs root. (unless you use ddms)
Zeam launcher can take screenshots of your home screen (not tested by me). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664149
But I think you are talking about live watching your mobile screen on PC, aren't you?
Most of these live view server take pictures of your screen and send it over the internet. There is also the issue with port forwarding. The only service that has pulled off remote screen viewing server without port forwarding has been teamviewer.

Teamviewer exists for Android? I'm fine with the picture taking...
This is fairly new to the forum if you haven't seen it.. but it does require root.

Does not have to be over USB. ADB can connect via TCP.
Code:
- disconnect device from usb then tell it to listen on 4455
adb tcpip 4455
restarting in TCP mode port: 4455
- connect to the device using a specified ip:port. my device is using wifi
adb connect 192.168.1.103:4455
connected to 192.168.1.103:4455
- now do normal adb commands over tcp
adb shell
- when your done, you can put it back in USB mode
adb usb
restarting in USB mode
You can also set an environment variable called ADBHOST with the IP address and adb will attempt to connect to that ip.
Now I am not sure if DDMS can connect to the device over tcpip, but if adb can, and ddms uses adb to connect, it should be possible.
BUMP. Any success here?
Its been a while, was wondering if there have been any solutions to this.

Android ScreenControl without root
Have a look at this ... Its something I have been working on ...
http://piglings.blogspot.com/2011/08/android-screen-control-without-root.html
Hope that helps !
Cheers,
Vikram.
I found this and thought it will be helpful as I ended up on this thread during my search.
NO ROOT REQUIRED!
Follow this link: it has everything.
http://www.mymobiler.com/
So far only PC is supported I think.
The app also gives you the ability to use your PC keyboard remotely over wifi, it also has shortcuts for home, menu, back, etc.
The one thing that you might need to figure out is the display option in the mobile app settings.
I chose to keep it #3 - others ... that's the only way I can see the screen on my razr maxx!!
Also, if you are having weird screen problems, the website has the FAQ section and other pages to tweak the settings so that it works fine!!
Now it is a bit slow ... but none the less very useful ... I use it to change music while my phone's connected to speakers and chatting with people on Viber/WeChat/WhatsApp ... comes in pretty handy!!
Hope this helps!! cheers!!

It works. Except that device must be connected via USB while configuring this.

app is nice! being able to have phone on the charger and still respond to text messages is nice and handy as it allows me to respond quickly and painlessly. It also allows managing contacts more easily in that I can do it from the keyboard. The webcam feature I'm liking...must find some nefarious way to use this The file manager totally pwns. I can't tell you the number of times I've had to get the usb cable from my charger to connect it to my pc to transfer a file then disconnecting from my pc to transfer it back to the phone. One word of caution though. You'll need to root your phone to take advantage of some of the more advance features. I just got a new phone today, photon 4g, and can't wait to see this in action. Mad props to dev.
Is there an app that will let me "remote desktop" into another phone? My mom also has an android device (HTC Rezound). But she can't even set the clock on her VCR (yes, VCR) let alone manage her phone. I would like to be able to remote control it to do stuff for her. I do this same thing with her computer using VNC or RDP. It doesn't matter if my end uses my phone or PC, as long as I can remote control her phone. Preferably without root.

I think the title says most of it...
IE connect to IPADDRESS fill in the blank with 192.168.1.x of phone.
The Long And the Short is that i DO NOT want to create a airdroid account.
I Fully understand the limitations that put's on the functionality.
really the only thing i need is when i sit down at the computer to be able to access my phone...
yes VNC and some of the other options can work.. but they have issues as well for text i like the airdroid.
i would love to test the remote screen function (s4 rooted).
Great app...

Remote Link
Hello there,
I use an app which works over Bluetooth or a local network to control your PC. I don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for, because you can not actually see the PC screen on your device, it's more like a remote mouse and keyboard.
Anyway the app is called Remote Link. I can not post links because I am new here, but you can find it on the Play Store. It has a blue icon with a hand in the center, which is touching a surface, making waves to appear.
thanks but i need something thats works outside the local network
