[Rom][32a][3.22] BetA - GSM Release 2.1 Hero port (06/08/2010) - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

This is a port of Paul O'Briens release of chunghwa 2.1 hero original thread
ported to the old radio with a couple of additions by me
using pershoots .34 kernel from cm the rom is very fast
things known to be broken :
Bluetooth (never can be fixed for hero ports to this radio... hope to have a nice new radio kernel as well )
APNS - make sure you can enter yours or use APN backup and restore from market
things working fine :
camera has some bugs but it works fine and image is fine ... mostly
music
video
all apps included
updated to newest superuser app by chains DD much better
RC1
edit : seems broken things are incoming call ringtone... very minor - can confirm 3d is working though...
I just play around with sense etc really prefer aosp like cyanogen mod as it is generally better and faster
will see what I can do to fix the ringtone issue though - I got my gmail fine though..
Thanks to Case for your help appreciate it - your advice helped this work out perfect - and so did your rom files i used some of them
also to cyanogen pershoot and bcrook as always and ofcourse paul obrien

reserved for future updates etc

Alan, you're our "Hero"
Thanks for all your work for our Magic

updated to stable release - everything works but bt and 3d here and 3d fix is coming tomorrow night
also like i said will have an updated cm version - hope new radio kernel works

..
The ringer does not work, can not hear anything, only the vibrate works ..

Yes of course, its HERO port.
- tested, GMAIL sync broken, ringing sound broken, rest seems ok; looking forward to new version, thanks for your great job!

Re: [Rom][32a][3.22] Stable - GSM Release 2.1 Hero port (06/08/2010)
Is this available for the MT3G Fender LE/1.2 with the 2.X radio? Just inquiring? Not new to Modding (Windows Mobile), new to Android though kind of.

Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App

3d should work in this release - think originally i just had a bad install of neocore...
will work on a more substantial release to fix the remaining problems and see what can be done to speed up the rom

RIngtone is not coming just thte vibrate, apart from that rest seems to be fine, will be great if there is a fiz for it soon great job though

Nice work

Music app didn't work, I don't have a logcat but you can recreate the issue by plugging in your headset and playing a song.

Hello and first thanks for the great ROM! Run really fast and smooth! But i got fc on weather app (HTC)! And the phone also only vibrate on incomming calls! Maybe an update????
Thanks
My Device: HTC Magic 32A

Edit: I found another bug! The battery holds max 12 hours in standby! Why????

[ROM] Virtudude's Rogers Mod [v3 - 6/4/2009]

I've been working on a mod of haykuro's Rogers ROM and it turned out decent, so I figured I'd share it. My primary motivation is to maintain a stable build with Exchange support for the G1.
Here's what's in it:
v1:
Kernel and modules from JF 1.51
Root (SuperUser, Term, etc)
Amazon MP3
Voice Search
Meltus Louder Sound profile
Multitouch Browser
Removed Rogers apps
Removed HTC Sync
Paid apps support
ext3 AppsToSD support
dalvikvm from ION
v2:
Everything above plus ...
RIL from ION (should fix the "My Location" issues some users were having)
Upgraded Meltus to v4 (supposedly clearer sound)
v3:
Removed the Multitouch Browser in favor of the default HTC Browser (attached to this post in case you want to add it back)
Removed the Meltus Louder Sound profile
Added Lucid's awesome do everything script
Here's the ROM:
v1: http://drop.io/rogersvirtududev1
v2: http://drop.io/rogersvirtududev2
v3: http://drop.io/rogersvirtududev3 Mirror: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4E8OIOQ4 (thanks robpet2)
Here's the modified JF build environment I used:
v1: http://drop.io/rogersvirtududebuildv1
v2: http://drop.io/rogersvirtududebuildv2
v3: http://drop.io/rogersvirtududebuildv3
I'm including the build environment because I know it's frustrating not having the tools to build things yourself.
Much of this stuff was ripped from ROMs from JF and cyanogen, so thanks to those guys, and of course, thanks haykuro for another awesome port.
Note: Like the original ROM from haykuro, this requires SPL 1.33.2005.
Thanks for creating your own Thread!!
This rom is super stable and blazing fast!!
Thanks for all your work on this!!
Yeah 1+.
Great stuff virtudude. I'm just updating my phone right now. Will post any issues later.
For future releases, do you know if you can add 5 desktops rather than 3? I know someone has done this here. I am not sure how hard is this or if its even possible.
bluetooth
Can anybody verify if their Bluetooth headset is working with this build? Other than that I Love this one! Id put it a notch above ion. Apps2sd no exchange no Rogers crap lol and no force close on the camera = heaven in a cell phone. Thanx for modding it! I hope its not my headset that's the problem.
I went from JF 1.50 --> 1.51, then to Cyanogen's 3.2 --> 3.3.4, then to ckrest's Rogers R2, and then to Virtududes V1 --> V2 --> and now on V3. This is the best build I've had to date. All of the others were good. I had few to no problems with the JF stuff, then even Cyanogen's experimental 3.3.4 ran great for me, and as good as those were, this is even better. Thanks for the work.
This is good to have your/its own thread.
Any chance of using cyanogen's kernel in this build? Its so fast..

I'll look into it. I wouldn't do it without cyanogen's permission, though, considering that is unique to his ROM.

Exchange works perfectly on this build.
Just HTC (desktop) sync was removed.
I went from
1. JF-1.5
2. Rogers - Haykuro
3. Optimized Hero ROM - R1.3
4. Hero (Rosie) - Haykuro Origianl
5. Virtudude's Rogers Mod v3
5. Cyanogen's 3.3.6. (currently running) w/ HTC Hero v1.0 Theme
in a matter of 4 days.
Love Cyanogen's 3.3.6 (speed) but love Rogers V3 (camera). If you could get the speed of cyanogen's build in your Rogers build that would be awesome.
Great Stuff.
Originally being against the removal of multi-touch browser, I tend to like the HTC more now.
How often would you use two fingers to zoom? I liked the double tap better as it zoomed in and out quite easily.
I think the one on Hero has flash working in it. Is it hard to get that one in without losing the snapiness?
desktop
I actually meant no desktop lol I never used it. I don't use exchange either but I don't mind it. I'm just gonna watch this thread and hope somebody else ha a buetooth headset issue. Id hate 2 leave this build but I use my g1 for music @ work and there's no way I'm goin back to wired headset after bragging about my stereo Bluetooth! Lol

Helluva job sir. This rom is pretty fast and superfast with the overclocker widget. This will definitely hold me over until a better Hero build comes out.
good job on this!
anyway for you to implement this into your builds?

thanks.
Thanks for this, Hero rom was just way to slow and unstable to use.
Multitouch browser
Does the apk he provided work for u guys....i mean replacin the v3's browser with his multitouch apk
Another DL link
ive tried several times to download the rom, it downloads and shows it being 56mb but when it finishes it only shows it at 5mb...i noticed it when i first tried to flash it and it was telling it the file was unsigned...is anyone else having trouble with the link?

I've tossed this on my HTC Hero and with a little bit of work everything is working, with the exception of Camera. Amazing job, love the build and hope to use it on a daily basis.
I've been waiting for a decent, non-hero 2.0 build. I'll give this a shot on my G1 and report back.
Thanks all you guys for the support and glad you like it.
@eugene373
Thank you man for your help on getting this out faster.
Full release has been posted on AndroidSPIN with the usual HIGH SPEED direct download links.
Awesome job man! Let's get some screen shots up!
So this means bt could be fixed on 2.1 hero?
Wait, so what's the difference between this and Eugene's new build? Does yours require a swap partition manup?

And will metamorph work?
Yeah swap is working so a three partition is needed, there two diff roms guys there are just things from his rom that was used,I would try it then see the difference.
Well BT on hero 2.1 has been a pain for a while so not sure if it will work on that, and metamorph have not tried but try it and post if it does but ill try my self to see.

Added Sprint/Evo Settings for setup
HTC_IME keyboard with Arrows(since we do not have a jogball)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: I dont really like to release roms that are not ground breaking from other roms but Since I am going to be using and working on this I figured might as well release it. I have been looking at the DesireHD roms out and some are not being updated/worked on really. IncDoes has done a great job at getting things working but most of the stuff is setup for verizon and the incredible so Here is a version setup for sprint. The base is from IncDoes 0.6.1 and all verizon settings etc have been swapped for sprint and the evo as well as a couple fixes i have added. I will attempt to keep this updated as I get stuff working.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Install Notes: ZipEE Roms will auto wipe /data /system. If the Rom will not boot please wipe everything again.
Have a question on what something is or what it means? Check the changelog above and also the
FAQ: http://zipeetek.com/topics/faq
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are new to ZipEE: The Rom will auto wipe /data and /system from your last rom. Make sure you nandroid backup before flashing anything.
Fair warning: if you ask me something that is already answered in these release notes, the faq, or the known bugs then Iā€™m probably not going to respond.

Amazing, simply amazing... Up and running now for just over an hour. No FC's and I feel like I have a new phone. Everything is so smooth its just unbelievable.
Is there any way to get VVM integrated into this ROM? If not It's not a big deal as I have the APK.

Sweet work
A problem I have come up with is during a call, if you have to enter a number to get thru to something else the system does not "hear" the number. Example... If during a call you have to press 1 for English (which BTW pisses me off) the call doesn't seem to react to the number press.
Hope this helps. I like a lot of ROM's that are out there (I've used them all) and NONE of them are as smooth and silky as this one.
cant wait to get home and try this.
Thanks for your hard work.

Thanks to 911sniper....
PD98IMG_ACE_Gingerbread_20110314.zip - TEST ONLY!!! Flash with Caution!!
Enjoy
A little info thanks to Try4Ce:
Code:
My findings so far:
- Based on Gingerbread 2.3.3
- Build .25 as mentioned
- feels a little snappier
- only chinese and english included
- NO GOOGLE APPS
- NO GOOGLE ACCOUNT SETUP
- A lot of weird chinese apps
- HTC Market - Kind of a Google Market, but completely chinese
- Fonts are a little smaller
- Statusbar Notifications/Quick Settings buttons smaller
- Because of smaller font and images in Statusbar NO scrolling anymore when going to quick settings
- New Radio works flawlessly here. Good reception, fast GPS fix
- Vending.APK can not be installed
2nd Findings:
Code:
I will try some stuff. First I want to get google apps on there.
Got some apps from the Gingerbread build (Lee / Mike).
What works so far is:
- Superuser
- Root Explorer
- Bluetooth / WiFi / Mobile Data / Telephone / GPS / aGPS
Right now I am in the Google Account Setup. Lets see how it works out.
After that I will try to record a 720p Video and try out the Camera in total
3rd Findings:
Code:
Google Account is set up and works!
Contact Sync works, GMail as well, Google Maps too.
I realized they even stripped out Friendstream. Not the Widget itself, but the actual application (Facebook etc.). The Friendstream is being utilized for chinese community portals. Makes sense I guess, since I know that Facebook is kinda not available to the chinese people (I have a friend from china).
Going to integrate Friendstream as well... Doing all this step by step to prevent mistakes.
4th post by Try4Ce:
Code:
Okay, im kinda stuck with improving.
So far I got alot of stuff working.
- Google Apps + Google Sync
- Superuser
- SetCPU
- full english keyboard
Weird is that Mobile Data ALWAYS stays connected, regardless of an active WiFi connection.
All those chinese apps are confusing and a particular one ALWAYS crashes from time to time (dont know which one exactly).
HTC Facebook Integration seems really hard to achieve, dunno whats going on there. All needed files are there, but it just wont apply.
Location Service is NOT working. Weather App and Browser cant catch my location.
In total it seems like a totally stripped down HTC Sense UI Edition, which is actually pretty unstable. The new and smaller Rosie on the other hand seems nice to have. Gingerbread 2.3.3 didnt have a very huge impact on the performance, neither positive nor negative. It is still kinda sluggish and cant be compared to the already hugely optimized and smooth Froyo Sense UI 2.0 builds from our talented devs.
The new Radio seems rock solid. Strong signal, fast GPS lock. Dunno about the battery usage tho. Not enough testing.
Camera seemed to be similar to the previous build. And felt pretty laggy.
can anyone make a mirror?
Nice! Thanks for this.
Thanks, this could be 2.20?

Rotating the Sense home screen is interesting - but when you get back to Portrait, the top of the default clock gets truncated. Very odd.
And the Search button doesn't search. It tries to launch Facebook stuff. I solved this in Salsa by using a button remapper, which works just fine.
I'm not sure what the advantages are of this ROM over the Salsa ROM, other than the screen-off animation and power menu.
I've had decent luck using Salsa - I like Sense. If it were a little snappier, I'd REALLY be happy.
I couldn't access the market, just kept loading forever

No, wifi hotspot/router doesn't work. Welcome to android though.
Might scavenge this ROM for parts, lol.

Salsa Fresca 1.2
Tried Salsa_Fresca_1.2.zip after a clean wipe of the device.
Everything seems to work good, even bluetooth!
The only thing missing in 1.2 is mapping of long press of Search (hardware button) it pulls up facebook even with voice search enabled. and of course Radio was not functional, but at least BT was!
Also is there a method to manually remove facebook completely from this ROM or is it too integrated into Sense for removal?
Keep up the great work!

You're kidding, Bluetooth worked?! Like, with no bugs/ oddities at all?

In order to fix the search button, replace HTC_SHARE for SEARCH within the liberty-keypad file located under system/usr/keylayout
Now regarding BT are u sure it's 100%?

.... it works? Even I didn't know.....
It doesn't... at least not for me. It's still a hit or miss. Other things that are not working properly:
- Lockscreen: We don't have the applications showing.
- Wi-Fi: Seems like it drops every now and then. Then it reconnects.

FWIW, I've been trying to get a kernel that works for these Salsa ROMs that supports all the accessories that Liberty needs to work with Gingerbread Sense. It's tough because official HTC kernels for the Aria ended at 2.6.32 and Sense Gingerbread seems to need something extra only available in 2.6.35. So far all my attempts have resulted in hangs at boot that hang even before I can get a logcat so I don't have any idea what's failing.
The 2.6.32 kernels work, but they spawn 2 or 3 flushd processes that collectively consume 96% or more of the cpu making them unusable.
I've put this on the back-burner for now but hope to be able to port over the board-liberty kernel files from CM7's kernel to the official Gingerbread Sense 2.6.35 source tree, but it's been an uphill battle.
Bluetooth, Facebook and etc.
As long as I have bluetooth on before I turn on the bluetooth headset, the headset (a motorola HK210) always connects. I always turn off BT on the Phone whenever I am not using it to save batteries. Then I turn it back on before I connect the HK210 while driving etc. So maybe it's turning it off and on that makes it work perfect. Not exactly sure but I have had not issues beyond the initial pairing.
As to removing Facebook and fixing the Search button. I just unzipped the Salsa_Fresca_1.2.zip to a directory. I edited the liberty-keypad.kl file as described by _jfo_. Thank you so much _jfo_. Then I removed Facebook.apk, HtcFacebook.apk, HtcFacebookChat.apk, HtcFacebookChatWidget.apk, and HtcFMRadio.apk (Since Radio was not working anyway.)
Then I rezipped, copied to my microsd card, clean wiped, flashed the zip with Clockworkmod and all is great! BTW I use My Backup App to backup call logs, MMS and SMS to my microSD and then restore them after the flash. Since these are the main things I really need the app has served me well and is well worth $4.99.
As far as the lock screen I would suggest removal of the "rosie_scroll" directory on your microSD card if it is there. I did and then a clean wipe/flash and now lock screen works perfectly. Even pulling the Phone, Mail, Camera and Messages to the ring works. Then pulling the ring up reveals the 9 dots etc like expected.
Thanks to all!
Gene Poole - Hang in there with the kernel thing. In the end polish is worth the time wait.
I figured it was not going to be an easy mission. But keep up the work. In the meantime, BT is bearable as is since I only use it when I talk and drive.
Thanks for your work and devotion Gene.
