Well 2.2 isn't even officially out yet.

At the homescreen..open app tray...device self service..update prl.

this does nothing for 4G connectivity issues does it.

is this safe with root?

Trying now, been having horrible data issues here in Aurora, CO. Works good in Denver area, but Aurora... constant data time outs, literally 20 minutes text delays. Using .31 radio and one of the custom roms, ideas?

If you have 4G connectivity issues on a rooted ROM try flipz's fix: http://bugs.geekfor.me/view.php?id=24

This doesn't do anything that switching airplane mode on and off wont do unless u have manually replaced ur prl file to something else. The phone came with prl 60665 and thats what the prl update gives you.
This thread title got my hopes up....

If you're using fresh 0.2 that fix is already included

i must give sprint and the evo props.
from etown kentucky to nashville i had 3G 100% of the time. good speed. never lost signal. and incredible 4G in nashville (didnt know they had it)
but anyways thats a 150 mile drive so pretty good if you ask me.

Actually mine came with prl 60662 and updating to 60665 helped with my issue of the 4g turning on and off and I am running full toast root with flipz 4g fix

wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre8.apk working on Rooted EPIC 4G

Hey Guys After a little searching found this version that actually works on my rooted epic so give it a try and remember to uninstall the one you have first.

Pre8 and Pre9 have been working since day 1. Where have you been?
Both only in adhoc mode unfortunately. In my short amount of testing, I find it to be slightly faster than mobileAP version posted here, and much less of a pain to get installed.
I am still looking forward to the infrastructure mode version, but I imagine we are going to be waiting for 2.2 at the earliest.

The only thing that Pre10 includes is a patch to get 4g working faster on the Evo on 2.2.
Unfortunately no plans to fix 4g on the epic yet as it seems ..if maybe more people were to ask for it

From what the author said in the issues..he only removed fixroute.sh on the EVO and evo only in pre10 and it is unrelated
But I guess it can't hurt to try pre10..just to confirm, are you guys using stock kernal or a custom one?
Yes, yes, YES!!!
I'm a recent convert from the Omnia II, and was really spitting nails that there wasn't any equivalent (that I could find) to replace WMWifiRouter. Just intsalled pre11 and it's working like a charm!
Thanks, gang!

Yeah, he means PRL. Those two terms get mixed up so much that I've sort of become numb to it.
However, I do have a question. I'm currently running an AOSP ROM, and I don't get the PRL update option like I do with Sense ROMs. There is a software update option in the Settings->About menu, but it just says that everything is up to date (I currently have PRL 60674). Is there any way to do a PRL update in AOSP, or do I have to flash a Sense ROM to do it (ugh, and probably not worth it)?

quick PRL def from what i've read on here, "Public Radio License" it just says what radio towers your phone can use.
Sense roms with downgraded ESPT or something can flash Verizon PRLs to use Verizon towers, i tried this in the same spots tethering through laptop.
Sprint PRL i avg'd 700kbps download and 120ping(would spike every 3-4 seconds to 800~)
Verizon PRL i avg'd 1.3mbps download and 300ping(very steady...never spiked)
on CM7, to lazy to restore a Sense rom just to update PRL...lol, maybe later when I flash my phone again in a day or so.
EDIT: PRL means Preferred Roaming List....i stand corrected. wutevs =D close enough

PRL does not mean "Public Radio License" Did you just make that up to sound cool, Nrre?
PRL is Priority Roaming List. Basically it tells your phone which towers/frequencies to prefer.

Did 2.3.5 cripple your tether?

I posted this in two other threads but both got ignored.
As soon as I updated to the 2.3.5, tethering seems to be no longer supported. The option is there, but as soon as I activate the tether, 3G goes away. I have to turn off the tether, then manually switch mobile data off and on just for my 3G to come back.
Is this their way of getting people to finally pay for it?
Yes.. one of the features of the update was removing tether if you were not paying for it. No biggie though... you have a Nexus.. just unlock it and download one of the apps off the market.

I am a little confused why Google allowed sprint to do this. Whether you you use the tether or not and regardless of how easy it is to get it back it doesn't sit well with me that Sprint is calling the shots with this phone now. One of the major appeals of this phone is the pure Google experience, which is now the partial Google experience. I wonder if this had anything to do with the delay of the OTA, maybe sprint was holding out until google let them kill the tether? Anyways, it doesn't instill a great amount of confidence in google for this phone and future nexus devices. I still like the phone and there is nothing on sprint I would rather have, I'm just a little pissed at how they tucked this into an update that was much anticipated and stripped some of our "pure googleness".
I don't understand this...i dont pay anything extra for tether, and i can still tether on stock 2.3.5. Why are some people unable?
i just flashed the new KE5 radio(found in the ns4g dev section), and im not seeing any issues. still on 2.3.4 tho.. i dont see any reasons to update to 2.3.5 especially if this is a problem. i tether wayyyy too much.

So I have a two day new Nexus S and I did the manual update last night. Now when activating the mobile hotspot the 3g or 4g icons go away and it does not have connectivity anymore.
Now, I have read conflicting info about whether this is happening just to those who did the manual update and if you did OTA it still works. Can anyone confirm this?
If that is the case, then I need to return this one and get another and just be more patient next time to get the update officially OTA. =)
Not that I am tremendously worried about the tethering/hotspot being free, but I am uneasy that doing this manually may have screwed things up in as of yet other unknown ways. Like if I do pay for hotspot/tethering someday it might still not work right, etc.
Thanks!

Did you manually update or did you wait for it to be pushed to your phone? I'm stock and wasn't rooted and I manually updated and my tethering both usb and wifi hotspots are not working.
Also I notice in the kernel version that it's longer than when I was on 2.3.4 mine says 2.6.35.7-g3cc95e3 [email protected] #1

[Q] OTA 2.3.6 Gingerbread Update Last Night!!

Hey so I was watching a marathon of TV last night when all of a sudden my NS started acting sluggish and then rebooted all by itself. When it finally was up and running again an OTA notification popped up. I thought it was odd so I clicked more info. The phone then just began downloading the update, so I waited. All is said and done now and my system status is labelling my phone with 2.3.6.
Anyone know what this update was about!? Did I miss the memo on something!?

Haven't found anything noticeably different besides below.
Rogers nexus s
After update system states
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version I9020AUCKF1
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-g21fb4cb
[email protected] #1
Build number GRK39C
I assume the update deals with radios as that was the nature of the search bug so check your speeds and connection stability. Battery life will be affected as well.
Looks like KF1 is the new radio so tell us how it works.
I assume everyone that got the update was on the stock rom right?

I tried to update my Nexus S (2.3.4 Rooted stock ROM previously) but it hung at the restart(showing the bot and the exclamation mark !). So I took out the battery and rebooted it. luckily it wasn't bricked.

Someone dump the radio I wanna see if it's upload capped.
Does anyone know if the original Nexus S the I9020/I9020T will be seeing any further updates - I'm starting to feel a bit left out on 2.3.4 - lol.
I have a stock Nexus S on Bell.
About 12:30 Alberta time the NS asked to do an update. It said the update was to fix several issues with the phone.
All the update version info is the same as Wind784.
I was on the kb3 modem before, and it was absolutely terrible.
Connection wise it is an amazing change.
I have gone from being unable to even connect to the network in my home, i.e. no calls, wireless data (except wifi), no texts most of the time to all of these now appear to be working.
At home I was getting less than dialup download speeds via Bell at home, and following the update I am now getting 800-1100 kb/s with 100 ms latency. (using the older speedtest.net app)
Yeehaa Google!! I can make a call from inside the house now, and texts work.
I live in East Central Alberta, it is a very rural area. (-111db 1 asu to -100db 3 asu) in my home, much better just over the hills towards the towers.
I can't wait to try it out in a bunch of different places tomorrow, both in my 200 km work area, and on a trip to Edmonton and back tomorrow.

[Q] How do I brand my phone?

I don't have a lot of time, so my search wasn't all that great. I have CM7.1 flashed on my Inspire, and my phone info says it's a DHD. I think that's the reason my data connection is messed up. To help you, InspireMod is attached to the first post in the AOSPX thread in development.
Also, you might want to just keep it on your SDcard and flash it immediately after flashing any roms that have been ported.
And here I thought we were done with the whole H+ thing. Haven't seen this in ages. Its purely cosmetic doesn't mean anything. Hell I can make it say 6g +++ if I wanted to take the time and edit the icons.
And your right the dhd doesn't have lte and neither does the inspire. The whole 4g is just marketing. Its more like 3.5g Max on a good day. But that doesn't sound as good for selling phones. Personally I think only lte should be 4g, but even then that's a modification of the original qualification (lte advanced)
