Pass Through Car Holder? - Desire Accessories

Hi there,
I've had a few phones and a few Brodit Car Holders. Not sure why I've stuck with them, but never had a bad experience with them, so why not. The best holder I had was for my iPhone, it had a Pass Through connector so I could plug any device in the bottom and play it through my Parrot Car Kit as it synced with the iTunes on the phone.
As the car kit has a USB device support on it, I'm wanting to get a Car Holder that has a pass through connector at the bottom so when the phone slides into the holder, it always plugs into a Micro USB part, but then I can plug any USB cable into the bottom of it.
Anyone had one of these or knows where I can get one from for the Desire?

Nobody had anything like this? Nobody looking for anything like this? Surely there are some people out there that have...

I couldn't find one either, ended up going for the active brodit. If your wanting the usb for music can you not make do with bluetooth streaming?

Yeah, its an option, but the usb part was good as it allowed me to flick through my albums and everything, like it was just playing an iPod.
Might get the passive holder and adapt it myself.

Or I guess if you get the active holder you can just cut off the charger plug and wire up a USB plug instead... so long as all the wires are there.

I think it only has two wires there though, for power. I used to love it when they made pass through kits with the old Nokia holders.

nevermind, found this one which will do for me, it looks similar to the Nexus One version, but obviously without the dock pins at the bottom...

[Q] Active car-holder for DHD

Hi!
I've been looking around here and there and can't seem to find it, so i figured it's time to ask the guru's
Has anyone found an active carholder for the DHD, which can be mounted either on the windscreen or on the upper side of the dashboard, so it can be used for navigating safely, without taking your eyes of the road?
Thanks!

You can buy the official HTC Car accessory from their website http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/nl/p_htc_item.aspx?i=205737
it's cheaper then the one on eBay

But this one is not active
What do you mean by active? That you can move it around, from car, or from its current spot?
Active holders means there is a jack to charge/sync your phone as it's sitting in the dock. This means it will usually have a jack to connect your charger to, or will already have the cables hardwired into it.
Passive holders mean they just hold onto you phone.
I'm also looking for one of these, except i need one that can fit a DHD with an Otterbox case around it

ah cheers for that
Does Brodit HTC-DHD active mount activate car panel?
Does the "active" bit also suggest that the 'car panel' app can also be automatically started when the DesireHD is docked ? I'm sure I've seen a setting somewhere within android that can allow this to happen. Does this mount qualify?
I am assuming some pins being pulled high/low etc in the MicroUSB connector when plugged in determine if its a car mount dock or not, so that normal chargers dont trigger the car-panel?
Edit : I've just sent of an email to: [email protected] and asked for clarification. Will advise here when I get an email back from them.
Cheers & Happy New year.
Edit : Response from brodit.se was that the cable does NOT activate the car panel.
Brodit HTC-DHD ... activate nothing at all..only charging :-(

I think you will have to use an HTC car charger USB cable. The one that comes with S400 brings up the car panel (I use Google's Car Home though) even if it isn't connected to a power source. I think it is the pin config at the micro-usb end of the cable that does the trick.

[Q] galaxy s to ipod dock... is it possible?

hey all
ive been roaming thru the forums n google searches trying to get all the info i need in order to create a galaxy to ipod dock connectivity.
im simply doing this as there is an abundant of idocks but nothing really for the galaxy.
my plan is to wire a micro usb and 3.5mm headfone jack into a female ipod cable (taken from an ipod extension cable) to create a small peice that can charge the phone and play music to the dock.
having all the cable outputs on top creates a sorta problem as the screen doesnt rotate upside down (not that im aware of anyway) so id have to create a sorta stand to incorporate it into
my question is, is it acheivable to charge, play music and maybe use for alarms etc? i kno in my head it makes sense but whats the thoughts of the more knowledgable people?
and can anyone help me out with pin numbers for bothe the ipod cable and the micro usb cable?
thank you all
Is this what you are looking for?
Quality is really good and with Voodoo Sound Control installed its really great!
Or if you are good in DIY than have a look here.
Hope this helps!
Try this: http://cgi.ebay.ph/Sprint-Anycom-Bl...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item2c54a47edb
it basically adds bluetooth functionality to ANY ipod dock..
it works, tried it with a car audio system.
@laurens something similar to that cable but im more interested with being able to charge my phone aswell. i sorta want to harness everything from the dock i can. so charging and playing music, much like i would get if i plugged an iphone onto the dock.
@neilbantoc nah im not a big fan of bluetoothing as it gives a pretty bad sound (usually) plus doesnt really charge the phone.
after much searching i found this link. its pretty much exactly what i want except its for a different phone
wow and i cant add links.... well i found it buy searching iPod dock adapter for the Motorola Droid/Milestone
what u think is it do-able with galaxy?
You can do audio and charging through the USB port, using a 365k resistor between pins 4 and 5 of the plug to enable desk dock mode, and some software to route the audio signal through the USB port. You can charge at the same time by supplying +5V through the Vin pin (pin 1) of the USB port.
The Apple dock pinouts are as shown on this "ipod dock adapter for Motorola Droid" post.
Using a Bluetooth dock adapter would give you the play control functions of the Apple Dock, I can't think of a way to get these with a direct connection.
hey guys all good got the phone to charge and sync using the cable but i cant get the 3.5mm TRS plug to work. tried numerous plugs but no go. ive got the wire strand shield twisted and goin to pinout 2, red wire goin to 3 and white going to 4.
i re wired it up n tested the cable n it works fine just cant get it to work when wired to the ipod board.
any ideas/help?
thank you LaurensJ!
you solved a problem i didnt think of trying to solve before...hehe

Pogo Pins + Docks

Are the Pogo Pins used for anything besides charging? Can they, for example, be used to output audio from? The main reason I'm asking is I'm curious what type of dock accessories I can expect for our phones in the future (or at least hope for). The current car docks all seem to use the microUSB to charge which is nice since I just need to slide the phone in. I still have to manually connect the aux cord which is the main reason that I would even consider getting a dock though. I rarely need to charge my phone in my car, but I need to connect that cord every single time. Is there any possibility of having the aux output go through the pogo pins the future or are they only for charging through?

I've read that the pinout is the same as USB

There is a dock for the HTC One X (Intl version) that uses the pogo pins. It charges and outputs audio as well.
Unfortunately it is the only accessory I've seen that makes use of the pogo pins, and we have still yet to hear a thing about them producing a version for the One XL.

Hardwiring microUSB into a Car

I'm looking to mount my phone to the "A" pillar in my car, but I don't want cords running all over the place. I'm looking at doing an install similar to what people do with radar detectors by hooking into the fuse box inside the car (with an adapter like the one found here). This would be just for power. I understand how to wire it up theoretically (don't need to hook up the data wires, just the power and ground). I'm just looking for a mentor to make sure I do it right.
Has anyone ever done something like this using an adapter like the one I've mentioned? And what size fuse did you use for the install so you don't hurt the phone?
On a side note, I'm driving a 2006 VW Jetta, if that helps in any way.

When I bought my car it had some hard wired cable like that, plugged an old phone in to be safe and it didn't charge properly. I scrapped the idea and just got a car deck with double usb and ran the usb to my arm console.

I'm trying to not have cables running everywhere like I currently do. I've already got an aftermarket XM radio next to my radio which uses up a cigarette light adapter already.

What exactly do you need help with? - There are 4 wires in the usb cord. Use red for positive wire but DO NOT connect directly to 12v. USB is 5v so connecting to anything higher WILL fry your phone. You will need to get something that converts 12VDC to 5VDC. Red wire is 5v positive and black is your negative (ground). If you wanna do it cheap and easy, go buy a usb cigarette adapter, take it apart, then take the wires going to the metal connectors and connect them to your power and ground. then just plug in your usb cord and hide the whole thing in the dash.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I started looking into it and realized that 5V /= 12V. I'm currently looking at using an old cigarette lighter adapters internals and wiring them into one of those fuse adapters (it'll convert the 12V down to 5V), then take the wires and hook them into a USB cable. I've got to do some measurements and all, so I'll respond back with some pictures of when I start the project. Should cost less than $20 and about an hour of time.

Alright, I have finally done the project (just have to hook it up). This website shows all of the details. I did use an add-a-fuse instead, but it is essentially the same idea. I will be adding it into my car later today.

[Q] Dock for Car

Hey guys,
i need some help / ideas for the best solution for my "docking"-problem in my car.
I have a bmw and since there are no snap-in adapters for htc i have to go over audiojack for listening music with spotify and i can't just put it to the place where the audiojack is because i have to control music with the touchscreen (iDrive 1 so no bt-audioplayback/control...).
Now i got 2 problems:
1. the cable looks ugly when its plugged in the phone and
2. i have no idea where to place my holder because every place i put the ugly holder the car looks cheapy.
So, my idea is to go over the pogo-pins!
Yeah pogo-pins but i don't know the assignment of the pins so the solution would be the cr s650 dock.
BUT! i think i my car won't be able to provide enough power through usb (is it possible to power the dock with usb?!).
The plan was to place the dock (please see the attachment) in the red circle and put the cable under the cover to the usb charger and the audiojack.
And also i have to modify the dock so i can plug in a jack into the dock or just solder a cable or whatever...
So my questions are, do you think this will work? And what problems i will have implementing this? Any other better ideas maybe?
Thanks for help and sorry for my bad english i think
No ideas?

I have no idea about the pogo pin dock, but I would avoid making any permanent modifications to a BMW and deal with the ugly look...it will decrease the resale value...you could always take the dock down when not in use (which is what I do)
Regarding the pogo dock, Make sure that the phone stays still and will not fall off the dock with some hard driving.
Not the prettiest solution, but I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroo...1131802&sr=8-1&keywords=cd+player+phone+mount
and just hard wired a power cable behind the dash (as to not have wires all over coming from my cig lighter)
The reason I went for that dock is because the phone is a lot closer and more accessible vs mounted to the windshield or elsewhere...also, regarding your proposed placement: having it down by the gear shift while driving would be pretty disorienting to me using GPS
