How to force EVDO only on TP2 without rebooting (SOLVED) - Touch Pro2 CDMA

I appologize if this was asked before, but in all my searches I keep finding people wanting to force 1x over EVDO.
What I need is to force EVDO only without having to ##778# edit HDR only reboot every time. I need to do it some what like the TouchPro. At least without having to reboot every time.
My reasoning for needing this specific thing is in Lake Charles Sprint has been promising EV since before Hurricane Rita. They have been using that as an excuse as to why it is not available ever since. This is when I moved towards the forcing EVDO. I originally thought I was bouncing of a VW towers, but after talking to a buddy at sprint I find that all the EV towers are turned on, but not broadcasting the EV availabilty to peoples' phones.
Point being is since it is basically like a not broadcasted SSID on a router. When I was forcing EVDO on my TP I was using Sprints EV towers. So, I hope you can see my frustration with this specific situation.
Question:
Is there any way by regedit that is not the hidden modeofoperation (cause that don't work), or any freeware, something. That I can use to force EVDO only on my TP2 when I am using pure data connection without having to reboot the phone.
Note:
I am trying, if at all possible, to stay away from unlocking and flashing a custom rom. Not that I don't love everyone's work, but I get Flash Dance crazy and am always changing ROMs cause of a bug. This is the first Sprint factory ROM I have ever liked (slightly modified with addons of course).
Thank ya'll so much in advance for any suggestions you may have.
Solution (Work Around):
I am not a programmer or script writer. So, someone else is gonna have to do that part, but after about a week of aggrivated digging through my TP2 I found how to switch to EVDO Only without rebooting.
Open Registry Editor - Go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\EPST - DWord entry PreferMode = 4 (Automatic) - Change Value to 10 (HDR Only) - Exit Registry editor - Disable and Enable Radio (I just go to comm manager and turn on/off Airplane Mode) - BAM EV Only without all the ##778# reboot junk
As far as I have searched, there has yet to be any solutions or workarounds for this CDMA EV Only that is kinda like the old Touch Pro way. Now if anyone cares please write a script or small macro that changes this registry entry from 4 to 10 and then disables and re-inits the phone radio. Then vice-versa. We can have a one button EV only swap for TP2 stock rom.
Hope this helps anyone else out there.

140 views and no replies. must be a tough one or i was too long winded. ill shorten it.
Need to force EVDO only without going through the whole ##778# reset.
Have tried old TP way of HiddenModeOperation and that 3G program which is nice but doesnt swap to EV

Do you realize that 3G on the tp2 is the same as EV?

yes. Its the EV that I am attempting to get. Even though the program was supposed to switch to 3g I am assuming due to it not being broadcasted as available it is not doing a true force EVDO. I only say this because when I do ##778# and edit the modem to HDR only preferred. After reset I get the EV symbol and speeds. Any other way I have tried I do not.
Thank you for your response.

@OP i have the same problem! i cant get Ev/3G unless i go into ##PST# either. ive tried WMLongLife and its hot trash... too many bugs...
anyone else know of a solution?

I have attempted a few differents styles of using WMLonglife, but at best it changes EPST settings from HDR only to CDMA only and Preferred HDR off.
With seeing that be done, by that software without a reboot. It makes me wonder if the author of the program could simply update it for our specific situation.
If WMLongLife can change the settings then there must be a way for us to do it.

Force EVDO scripts Tp2 Rhodium CDMA
here are some wannabe scripts. i wrote them on word mobile while driving a company truck. These are the first scripts i have ever written for win mobile. They work for me for now. I will combine them into one button with an if then type scenario.
Please these are very amature and just to help others out afraid to mess with the registry. Note: this is only for the touch pro 2 CDMA. any other device i cant tell u what it will do.
This has MortScript and rk-FltMode in the zip. which i can in no way take credit.

Your program has the ability to switch back and forth between EVDO only mode and Hybrid mode, but it does not have the ability to give 1X only mode, which is what everyone is looking for. If you can, please update your program to give 1X only mode.
By the way, on TP2 you can easily get data-only mode (which is like EVDO only mode but I think it also allows data over 1X too) by going to Phone/Menu/Options/CDMA Sevices tab/DDTM Mode and select ON.

if i ever get time ill combine these all with selections. easily done with mortscript but takes me a minute being a noob. but i can quickly change values out for a separate 1x script for now

ok this zip has CDMA Only included. There is a WCDMA Only option but i dont know if that is what u wanted. just let me know

Is there a way for you to also provide a key for 1X only mode over the home network (not roaming mode)? It would be great if you could also put all these keys into one menu in the form of an app.

Sorry never mind what I said above in my last post. Your mortscript for the CDMA only option is the 1X only mode over the home network. Thank you so much for sharing this program. It saves a lot of battery when users in EvDo fring areas want to use Sprint's Airave, which runs over 1X only mode, and don't want their phone from switching between EvDO hybrid and 1X only modes.
Is there any way for you to put this into a program that brings up a simple menu that automatically puts the phone into the airline mode, makes the switch, and turns the airline mode off? The way that it is now, I have to first put the phone into the airline mode using your airline toggle app and subsequently click on the mode of operation that I need and then turn the airline mode off. Too many clicks.
Once again thanks for the mortscript-based mode of operation toggle switches. I have been looking for such a program for my Sprint TP2 for a long time because the TP2's have had their native MS mode of operations menu completely removed from the registry.

Instruction and icons for sysmai's toggle switches
In the above post #11, sysmai has created mortscript-based toggle switches that can do for TP2 what the mode of operations menu does in the original TP. Install his two CAB files one to enable mortscript capability in your phone and the other to create a toggle switch for toggling on/off the airline mode.
Put all the toggle switches in your Start menu folder for conveniece, and if you want to give them distinct icons, use JWMDIconChanger_V2.7c program to do it. This program only works for wm6.5, and I am providing you with some .png icons I found online to use with this program. For some reason, my TP2 is not able to open these .png files but the JWMDIconChanger_v2.7c can open then and successfully make them icons in your start menu.
Instructions to change the mode of operation using sysmai's mortscripts:
1) First use the airline mode toggle switch to turn on airline mode.
2) Next, use the toggle switches to switch to your desired mode of operation (EVDO only, EVDO hybrid, and 1X only).
3) And finally, use the airline toggle switch to turn off the airline mode.
Note 1:
The Airline toggle that sysmai has created is not the same as your phones own airline mode feature. sysmai's airline toggle just turns your phone on and off. It does not turn off other things like bluetooth, so if you go for airline trips, please use your own phone's airline mode feature.
Note 2:
sysmai has named the EVDO hybrid mode as "Automatic" and the 1X only mode as "CDMA only" because these are the terms used in the EPST menu for which you need your MSL code to access. For those that don't know what EPST menu is, ignore it. Just use sysmai's mortscripts on your CDMA TP2's and you should be fine.
Note 3:
As usual, use at your own risk. I used my icons, sysmai's apps, and JWMDIconChanger app on my Sprint TP2 running on the latest stock ROM (wm6.5 with HTC Sense 2.5.2012) without any problems, and all his programs were fully removal on my TP2.

As long as the rtk-fltmode is in \Program Files\rk-FltMode\rk-FltMode.exe then it should toggle the phone radio for you. With my silly messages that is.

Final Zip with Choice of Force mode Cycle
Here is a finger friendly script that has all 3 of the others combined in a simple yes no cycle. Same zip as before with ForceChoice.mscr added.
Simply install (if you have not already) Mortscript and FltMode CABs
Put the script/scripts in an easy accessed place.
If you run ForceChoice it will ask you if you want to force each of the three modes. Yes of course forces it, and no will move you on to the next until you get through all 3 then exits.
I decided to go with the Yes/No cycle rather than a selection for easy "on-the-go" pressing without having to use a fingernail or stylus. Big fat yes or no..lol.
Hope it comes in as handy for yall as it does for me.
Again as stated above this is for HTC Touch Pro 2 CDMA w/ WinMo 6.5 only. Use at your own risk.
Thanks to the creators of Mortscript and rtk-FltMode. Without your great coding my simple scripts would just be txt files..lol.

new version forcechoice script
I noticed when forcing evdo with the other script that browsers tend not to init data connection automatically. This version attempts to init that connection. it is setup for sprints default. if connection isnt established it will loop until it does.
NOTE:
This is for Touch Pro 2 CDMA only.
The file is in txt format so any cdma users that can. Can change the connection name to their choice.
CHANGE .TXT TO .MSCR FOR SCRIPT TO WORK.
MUST HAVE ZIP IN MY PRIOR POST INSTALLED FOR THIS ONE TO WORK
Im learnin so hopefully i will be able to contribute more as needed.

10thanks

I know this is an old post, but just came acrossed it and wanted to say thanks. This is just what i was needed.

Thank you very much for figuring this out!
I don't want to keep beating a dead horse, but does anyone know what all the registry values represent?
From this thread, I gather 4=Automatic, 9=1x CDMA, 10=3G CDMA. I'd like to make a Mortscript with a easy drop-down that can select any possibility (GSM or CDMA) but I don't know how to figure out all the possible combinations. If somebody can help me figure that out, I can build and post the script.
Thanks,
Matt

Thanks! ill wait until someone tests it though. anyone?
Nice App.
Hi,
I installed this app on my pre-production kaiser and it works fine, including uninstallation
It replaces the data connection icon in the comms manager so once installed it is slightly more difficult to disconnect from GPRS.
Apart from this.. it works fine if you want to disable 3g networking.

this was said in the original forum
"Hi, I just found out I think that if I switch between GSM to Auto band using this comm Manager the phone will make GSM Band as priority over 3G band. If I switch to 3G Band only manually through Phone Setting, then switch to Auto then the Phone will make 3G as priority. Strange!"
i wonder if this is really the case. i did notice the other day that i had the band set to auto and there was an "E" icon showing. i then switched to 3g and an "H" was showing. i dont understand why it wouldn't have automatically been on "H" since auto was selected.
im going to give this file a shot just a quick back up first.
Also looking for this. I'm hoping someone can craft one with both the Data and the 3G buttons. The stock CM has a space for another button already. Someone's gotta be able to add the 3G button in, please!
3g button doesnt seem to work properly. i confirmed that the quote from my previous post was true.
Oh well. I read a post about someone missing all the little things XDA created for the Hermes. Here is another example and I am starting to wonder if I want the Tilt the 1st day or even few months. It will take a while for the Kaiser to get all the hacks working.
I'm one of those people! But, most tweaks are now in place, I just added this com manager and it's great to be able to throttle down the connection once again to save battery. I'm finding AE Button extremely useful in making these tweaks work like the Hermes.
This com manager works well and as mentioned, it would be better if the Data AND 3G keys could both be present since there is space. Since the Kaiser's Red button no longer breaks the connection when pressed and held, I've used AE Button to map a key, I double-press one to "close dialup connection" which breaks the connection. Works great!
I've tried this .cab on my TyTN II and I've uninstall it.
It doesn't disable your connection like NoData of MoDaCo does.
The one im using works fine, but doesn't have the Data button ( i dont really care) . It does have a beam button though which is obviously useless on the Kaiser, so i suppose that should be replaced with Data. My biggest hope is that someone can replace "Wireless Modem" with "Internet Sharing". I cant get the BT PAN in my laptop to connect when i use Wireless Modem, but it works great with the windows Internet Sharing app.
Unfortunately the installation does not work , shortly before finishing it said
that the program has not the necessary permission ...
any hints ?
make sure comm manager is not running in the backgrounmd

Here is the one with fixed WLAN link button. Use it to see if it works.

Possible method of disabling 4G

On my Evo, I have tried a number of different things to conserve battery. One of the issues that someone suggested related to a possible bug in the way that the phone interacted with the Sprint network- it apparently continued to search for CDMA even if connected to Sprint CDMA (please forgive my lack of specificity about this- I have absolutely no understanding of how CDMA networks operate).
Anyway, on the Evo boards, an app was recommended that allowed the user to specify the type of networks that a phone would use- called (appropriately enough) "Network". It's hard to find in the market; I think you have to search by the dev name- which is "mangelow". I used the app to set "CDMA only" instead of "CDMA PRL", which supposedly addressed the problem; by my own rough estimation, battery life improved (although slightly).
The app downloaded to my TB when I first logged into the market, so I thought I'd give it a try. It shows different options since it's on Verizon (which makes sense), the default being "CDMA+LTE/EVDO Auto"; there's also a "CDMA only" mode. I selected "CDMA only" in a known LTE location (my office) about 2 hours ago; yesterday at the office the phone was in LTE mode all day, as it was this morning before I switched modes, but since switching, it's stayed in 3G mode constantly.
I'll leave it to the smarter types to confirm my hypothesis, but I thought I'd toss it out there because it seems to work so far. There's not a widget or anything for this- you have to use the app to make the adjustments each time you want to change, but it's at least more than we have currently.
I suppose a disclaimer is appropriate, since I'm recommending someone else's app- I have nothing to do with the development of the app, and it wasn't my idea. If this works, any credit should go to the developer, not me.

I know this has been talked about already, but are there any widgets that can do this quick swap for you? My wife's TB arrives today and I want to disable 4G for her (but have it EASY for her to turn it back on if wanted/needed with a simple press of ONE button via a widget). I disable my 3G on my AT&T Captivate, but do it through the settings menu with several different button presses to get it done. This saves a HUGE amount of my battery on my Cappy and I imagine that it will on the TB too.

I make sure the CDMA + LTE option is checked but nothing happens and if I reboot my sometimes it will be back on 4G and others it will have switched back to CDMA auto and then I have to try toggling the switch and rebooting again.

Multiple missing menu in service mode, Possible ways to enable

Coming from SGS where I could select WCDMA/GSM in the Settings>Mobile Network
or through *#301279# and select HSDPA/GSM mode
I find it bit annoying not to be able to
1. switch off 3G mode when not neeeded so as to conserve battery.
2. preferentially select wcdma/3G mode in slightly weaker 3G areas for faster net.
Though it is understandable to an extent missing menu in UI customized by/for ATT
But it surprises me how the *#301279# menu is also disabled.
Also number of menus in service mode are also disabled (menu does not exist).
Is there a way we can re-enable these?
Can we push "service mode 2.2.1" from some other device (e.g. backed up through titanium etc and restored over the one in infuse.)
(There is no Q&A section and this is more than general query so I have put it in dev section. I apologize if I was wrong.)
Try *#*#4636#*#*
Then choose "phone information"
there you'll find the option to choose the preferred network type.
I assume this is what you are looking for?
Already tried that.
The option to choose band is there but this does not stay, in fact it is not getting executed. Immediately after setting without even reboot if we go back to the menu *#*#4636#*#* it has reverted to wcdma/gsm auto prl.
In galaxy s and galaxy s2, there is a option in mobile network settings, and also your suggested method holds. Also *#301279# takes us to selection for hspa version.
Is there some apk like wireless teether manager which if frozen could allow internal android menu to work.
Or we need to push service mode from galaxy s...
I am not a developer and not confident to risk a brick... Wish someone with knowledge about these to look into this.

You should definitely risk a brick. Why else would you be at xda?
I personally would ADB pull the backup from the infuse while in recovery and push the new from SGS rom. That way if you bootloop, you can adb reboot recovery, possibly get a recovery reboot and then push the original back.
Keep us posted.
*#*#4636#*#* does hold i have been on wcdma only for days now after going in and making the changes press the home key not back if you press back it reverts back to auto by pressing home i got it to stay

Thanks for the encouragement... I took a plunge and atleast concluded few things in process.
I pushed service mode from Galaxy S in number of ways, .apk pull and push, titanium backup and restore, supermanager backup and push.
But Service mode>>Debug Screen>>Phone Control>>Network control Has missing [4]-----, which in SGS is service acusition order,
Also RRC(HSPA) control sows menu does not exist.
But at this moment it Struck me, What I am pushing is the UI and commands/codes but the menu has to exist on the ROM...
And in this case The RADIO ROM or the baseband. Probably samsung has modified basebands for ATT thats why we may never be able to get full choice on choosing 2g/3gNetwork (not data)
I found switching to 2g network helped battery life big time while in my work. Only to switch back to 3g network when I needed data/vedio call.
Screen Shots show how convenient it is in Samsung Galaxy S and S2.
So for the sake of More Juice from battery Lets hunt....
Have you tried *#2263#. You can switch between gsm/wcdma band easily. I've tested myself to keep my phone stuck to 3g in weaker reception areas.
Yes that is one way of doing it, In fact I created Contact entry By name 0f "2g3g" with that code in. Look at the screen shots in my earlier post Wish there could be this menu...

HTC Thunderbolt on PPC with 3g without using CDMAWS paid version

Ok everybody, after a few days of tinkering around with the help of many different forums and threads (sorry, i cant possibly start thanking individuals cuz i went through so many threads) i finally got my htc thunderbolt on PPC with 3g working. this is how
1.) remove the 4g sim card (if you have it) from the thunderbolt
2.) aquire all of the drivers you need for the thunderbolt and DM mode (hint, use htc sync)
3.) on the phones dialer dial ##3424# and press send
4.) hit the button that says reboot to modem+diag mode
5.) when your phone is plugged into the computer, has all the drivers installed, and is picked up in the device manager as 2 com ports
A.) The voice, text, and 1x com port is the htc diagnostic
B.) the 3g/4g com port is htc diagnostic 9k
6.) aquire a copy of cdmaws (2.7 is fine, there is a cracked version floating around, just use google no warez links
7.) open up cdmaws and connect to the non 9k port and connect
8.) go to the security tab and input your spc (000000) and click send, should say unlocked
9.) go to the other tab and under R-UIM Config make sure you select NV only then click write
9.) write all your nam settings, mdn, min, sid, nid, imsi and etc etc (other posts here at xda have all the details) repeat for name 2
10.) go to the other tab and under prl make sure it says universal and nam1
11.) click write and locate your pageplus evdo prl file (i used 51720) repeat for nam2
12.) go to the main tab and click disconnect but DO NOT CLOSE CDMAWS!!!!!!!
13.) connect the 9k port and repeat steps 8-12 but dont read, just write (all of your settings should still be on the screen)
14.) close cdmaws after all the settings are written to the phone
15.) find a copy of qpst 2.7 build 366 (again, google is your friend) and install it
16.) open up qpst configuration and click add new port
17.) find your non 9k com port click it once then click ok
18.) at the top go to start clients->service programming
19.) click ok then click read, click ok on the pop up that comes up
20.) go straight to the m.ip tab and create a new profile (or edit the one that shows up if it shows up) make it look like the screenshots i have below
21.) write the profile
22.) go to the PPP config tab and put *your 10 digit page plus phone number*@vzw3g.com for your nai and *your 10 digit phone number*@dun.vzw3g.com for teth. nai. password is vzw for um and an tab.
23.) close service programming and select the com port in configuration and remove it, close qpst configuration
24.) get a copy of dfs tools (demo is perfectly fine)
25.) see screenshots included at bottom of post
26.) make sure you start with the non 9k port, write what you need. and change ports to the 9k port without closing dfs tools, write everything to the 9k port (to be sure i pressed write for everything about 30 times but i may have been a bit excessive
27.) now activate the thunderbolt on your pageplus account by taking the last digit off of the imei number and they'll take it.
28.) insert ANY sim card into the sim card slot (NOT A VERIZON 4G ONE) i used a old nextel one to be honest
29.) turn on phone and dial *#*#4636#*#* and click phone information. change to cdma auto (prl) and close out.
30.) make a phone call and BAM 3g picks up and authenticates
Sorry if this guide isnt easy to follow, im not too good with wording things, lol. but it gives enough info for others to help including me.
also make sure under wireless and networks-> mobile networks-> that data roaming is allow for all trips, network mode is cdma only, and system select is automatic b
feel free to post to this thread with any shortcuts, questions, or comments

Thanks for the hard work you have done deathrow1993 ,I have been around in circles with this, It looks like you have come up with the answer. I have 2 questions for you.. 1: I have CDMAWS 3.9 a little different from the one you have..You mention go to the other tab and under R-UIM Config make sure you select NV only. In CDMAWS 3.9 the R-UIM config is on the main tap and there is also the button that gives the option of CDMA or CDMA2 or EDVO etc. and another button that gives the option of NAM1 and NAM2 .. Do I write to NAM1 and NAM2 under CDMA and CDMA2 and EDVO?? The last question 2: on the program page of DFS CDMA you have 765 2385692 in several fields is this the phone # thanks for all your work with this. I have had the 1X working for a bit now but getting tired of the slow speeds. Again thanks to you everybody else that has contributed to this... Merry XMAS

Thats my cell phone number. Forgot to edit the pictures i guess. If you have cdmaws 3.9 and its the paid version in order to get 3g go to the evdo tab and put yourphone#@vzw3g.com for all fields and vzw as the password. Then have pageplus do a esn reset and a data reset and 3g should work. If its not the paid version then the evdo tab wont write. It sounds like you already have talk and text working? also make sure if you write something (nv only, nam settings, m.ip, and ppp settings, anything) make sure you write to both nam1 and nam2.
Thanks a bunch for your tutorial. I am going to try to flash my spare tbolt to PPC and have been reading everything that I could find.

no problem. just make sure youre on the stock rom so you can get diagnostic mode working. after everything is flashed i know its safe to flash a custom rom and even a new radio. i was on a bamf rom after 3g started working i then upgraded my radio from .9 to .19 and everything stuck. if you have any questions just keep me posted

Deathrow you can still get into diag mode with ICS roms and probably other non sense ones as well. Google "GScript Lite" and you can put your phone in diag mode without the reboot. I am with PPC too and love sense roms for ease of programming your phone without ever hooking it up to a computer but have run into losing data when flashing roms.

You are welcome, it's actually pretty easy to use and you don't have to reboot your phone.
Hi deathrow1993,
Thank you very much for your brief and simple tutorial...finally my Thunderbolt get 3G here in Jakarta.

Thanks again for your tips. I currently have voice and SMS working...Still trying to get data tho...
deathrow1993 if you ever make it near PDX I'm buying you a beer!
Process worked (took me awhile to find all the tools).
I haven't got a non-vzw-LTE SIM card yet so I have the Verizon one in there (wife's phone...keeps the phone from complaining) and it at least functions with text/voice for her.
I suspect it will start snagging 3G once I get the random SIM card in there.
Best part was that this avoided having to use the paid version of CDMA Workshop (their DEMO version you can download lets you mod only the CDMA pages, not the EVDO). I really didn't want to part with $99 just to program a used phone that isn't even mine
Thanks again! Learned a lot!
HTC Thunderbolt on Page Plus/w Voice/Text/MMS/Web
..Finally, after a week of trying to get data to work, IT WORKS!! HTC Thunderbolt on Page Plus 55$plan, Voice/Text/MMS/Web at 1xCDMA. I started with the tips from this thread and others alike, used cdmaws2.7, DFS4103, QPST366, and WirelessWorkshop dotcom. To be honest, it was the WirelessWorkshop remote software and the Technical help from them(Dwane was his name) that got this working. I could never get the com ports/diag driver's installed correctly. I thought they were but they weren't and WirelessWorkshop(Dwane the tech dude) connected to my pc through teamviewer and fixed my problem with the ports and drivers! Way more than I expected him to do since I only paid to use the software remotely. Before he fixed my pc I could only write to the htc diagnostic modem, not the 9K..So CHeers to him and the rest of y'all that have helped out...
Now I need to get 3G working. I did run across this from another site's thread but I don't know if it works to fix 3G cause there are no other references to it:

I am not sure if changing the "vzw" pass to one of these would work or not.. Has anyone else seen this and does it work to connect 3G?
Hmm...
I popped in a non-4G-LTE SIM card yet still no 1x or 3G data (no MMS or anything).
Any words of insight here?
After having everything working(voice,sms,mms,data1x) for almost a week, I tried to get 3G to work and now I have no data or mms at all...I have tried to re-flash and re-flash, gone over all the settings a thousand times, but nothing...
Brandon314159, wish I could offer some advice but I find myself also asking for help now... The last three times I called PPC and had them reset my data, I still haven't gotten it back yet..

I'm thinking the APN may be wrong on my Thunderbolt (still verizon?) because it wasn't a setting I had to change in this process?
I will have some more time here soon to look at it and see if I can figure it out..
I don't think the sim card really matters much but I'm using the verizon sim because it holds the PRL. 3G data is working for me, you need to be able to write your specific keys to the phone using DFS. This took me a while to figure out but eventually I got my hands on a droid incredible and was able to use it for my source to setup the thunderbolt. I am not sure if there is any other way to work around this or not but it worked for me.
Edit: It may be that you need to do all the programming as stated by the OP before you do the activation or have an ESN reset thru PPC.

EDIT: I was wrong about the sim card but if you have a new one that was NEVER programmed before, then it will work with the 4G LTE sim card.
I had 2 used & 1 new sim card but I could only get the NEW one to work correctly with 3G. Sorry if I lead anyone in the wrong direction.
I am only finding one port (9k) since I upgraded to ICS. Does anyone have a similar issue or could this be another problem?

I have found This rom here to be the most useful in setting things up to where you can reboot to diag mode and then set everything else up as stated in the OP. Once you are finished, flash the rom of your choice but don't go thru with the vzw activation process so all of your settings will stick. They may still stick, I don't know for certain as I have never allowed it to finish.

Network Type selection

Hi, i just want to know if there's any option to change network type to 3G ONLY (or 2G only). The options in settings are preferred network so they switch to another network type when needed, and I dont like that.
I tried *#*#4636#*#* and change it from there but it still goes back to original setting.
Any tricks/solution out there? Thanks!!!
I used to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/widget-toggle-network-type-5-0-xda-t2945406 but it's not working for me after installing CM14.1. Some people say it's working in their devices with Android 7 though, so give it a try and see. Needs root.
If it doesn't work and you ever find an alternative, please do let us know here.

Hi, I think I found a solution. I still use the *#*#4636#*#* code and choose WCDMA Only and leave it as it is. I noticed that it only goes back to original network type IF I enter the "Cellular network settings" screen (**even without changing any options in it). So just stay away on that part in Settings and your network will stay as you selected.

Yeah, I was aware of that. That behavior (reverting to the selected mode in settings upon opening the activity) was introduced in Marshmallow. Who knows why. Unfortunately this is still not ideal for me because I usually keep the phone in 2G only unless I need a faster connection. With that plugin, which no longer works, I could use Tasker to change network modes depending on contexts or a simple tap in Tasker's persistent notification buttons, which I had configured to do just that. Going into the dialer, entering the code and then navigating through the option every time I need to change modes is too much work, but I guess I have no other option until either the dev updates his plugin or another plugin is developed.
Thanks anyway, mate.
