[APP] Android 2.2 (Froyo) Keyboard apk for 2.1 (Eclair) - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Do you know if Froyo's keyboard works on Eclair? Can someone share the apk with us so we can use the nice(r) stock keyboard on 2.1?

Interesting in this keyboard, too!

You can pull it off the rom. Just unzip it and look for it.

the apk, anyone?

I've already pulled it and tried it. It targets the API level 8 (Android 2.2) and wont install on 2.1. If someone were to take the source and modify the Manifest, then maybe we'd be in luck, but we have no source yet, so it's not likely to happen.

I just think its inexcusable that you need to hit the symbol/number button to get to a comma. Swiping up gets you # and &, but no comma?

Actually, when you hit space after a word it should suggest some common punctuation in the word suggestion bar. That was one of my favorite things about the 2.2 stock keyboard.

We have the source now...any possibility this can work? I'm dying for this keyboard. Well this or maybe the stock multi-touch keyboard that comes from motorola. It seems like no android keyboard can come close to the iphone, which makes no sense to me considering how open this OS is. Swype is great for one handed typing though...but i need something more.

Bump..
This keyboard would be awesome on 2.1

HTC_IME for Nexus One [Pixelated Version]

http://drop.io/p12auxn#
I'm not 100% sure this is it since I don't have my Nexus One yet so I need someone willing to test.
I found it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dFh9RKsN6w&feature=player_embedded
This is the same one that's pixelated on the Nexus One. Also, doesn't stretch the full screen in landscape mode.
It is still the pixelated version. That wouldn't even bother me that much if the correction bar on the top fit on the screen and wasn't horribly warped.
Damn sorry then. The one in the video looks good though.
do you need to be rooted for this? Because I tried it using an appinstaller. It shows up in the clicker, but when I create new messages, it reverts back to the stock google keyboard.
You have to go into the settings and enable it, then when you're in a message box click the box and hold, then select "input method". You can alternate between the 2.
haha ya i forgot to do the "hold" part in the message box. thanks!
pixelated...but at least i don't have to switch back n forth for numbers and punctuations. can't wait for the non-pixelated version w/ microphone key =)

We'll need a high-res 2.1 SenseUI device to come out - probably need to wait for a Bravo leak.
Yep, works fine on N1 running MCR1.1 but pixelated. Will have to live with that for a while as it still beats the hell out of the standard Android keyboard...
Is the file linked from youtube the same as this file?

So I emailed HTC to find out if they will update the htc_ime.apk so that it will work on the nexus or look properly I should say. I am currently waiting for a response... let you guys know when I get a reply. I will post it.

Ha good luck with that. They won't update it until they release a phone with the Hi-Res Sense UI.
Most likely we'll have to wait until a bravo dump is leaked or another sense UI device w/ a hi res screen's dump is leaked.
I'm running HTC_IME on the N1.... its great to have it back, only complaint is the lack of the dedicated 'microphone' key thats in the default keyboard... so AFAIK once you install HTC_IME you can NOT dictate text messages and the like
Does anyone know how to edit the dictionary for htc ime?
I don't know about editing words but you can erase it by going into your settings > applications > keyboard > clear data.
I installed this and it works great but my only issue-request would be to add more languages. The option is there, when you go to settings from inside the keyboard, but unfortunately, only english is available.
In the past, people have made language packs...could someone do on for this? pleeeeeeeease?
Thanks,
Lou
I used to change com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml file to enable dual language on my htc ime. I was wondering if this can be changed in the apk before installing. I dont want to root my nexus.
Thanks

Working great for me on 2.1 Darch Legend V.5.
You need to install the .apk, then go into settings >> keyboard >> enable swiftkey
Next you need to go into swiftkey settings and download a language pack.
After all that, long press on a text entry box and select SwiftText.
So far it is pretty great at predicting what I am about to type in 2 letters or so. I love Swype..but I am willing to give this a try for awhile.

I have not had any problems using it on DamageRegaw ROM. I think I downloaded straight to phone from the email link I received and then just installed using ES file explorer.
I hope that helps. Word prediction on this keyboard is interesting.

Eh, its better then stock, but once you try swype, its hard to type with anything else. If only swype had the voice thing like stock android, that would be awesome
OMFG!!! that looks awesome. so here's the question, if i want it how hard is it to try and then if i don't like it how hard to get rid of it?

I'm faster with Swype than a physical keyboard. I have installed it for two G1 owners recently after they got a hold of my phone.
No problems with darchlegendv5 I tested by just pushing space and if typed this " up to the business of Parity shall be liable for the use of the individual or entity to which it is a bit of a man they are trying to trace in connection with the word. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person." Exactly what I wanted to type. Crazy smart keyboard, but I think it's pretty nice thus far just a little slow.

Froyo HTC keyboard in apk?

Hello,
I tried some HTC FRoyo+Sense ROMS, and really love them, but I am a cyanogenMod addict.
I am missing the HTC Sense keyboard. I know that I can find it easily on XDA, but with froyo+Sense, I have seen some cool changes on the keyboard ( to switch easily from une locale to an other, because I am using french and english all the time)
Where can I find an apk to install this new keyboard?
Thank a lot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663608
There is an Froyo version around ;-)
Yes, I have seen, but if I am not totally wrong this a version of the Eclair HTC keyboard compatible with FroYo.
That is not the new keyboard from HTC.
To figure that, maybe you should try one of the leaked ROM Froyo+Sense, you will see some new features on the keyboard, like the button to switch langages easily. That feature is not in the "old" keyboard.apk
I hope you understand what I mean, because it's not easy to explain in english.
Did you try to rip it yourself? Download that HTC_IME mod, unzip it... and take a look at what files are actually installed.
Rip those files from one of the 2.04 or 2.06 based Sense ROMS, and push them to your AOSP Froyo rom.. see what happens.
Yes i understand this but this HTC_IME is able to do this gestures, too ;-) Or u like to have the look of the new HTC_IME ,too ?
I see i have to upload the Froyo Version here it is :
Install via Astro or anything else (Dont push)

im used to the default one with the "numbers" button on the right - just like iphone. sense keyboard puts it on the left.

HTC_IMEmod (installable on non-rooted phones) makes it possible to change languages by using the volume buttons when the keyboard is up.
Other keyboards like smart-keyboard-pro also have a button to change languages on the keyboard itself.

Hi.
By any chance, is there a way to have the directional arrows just like in the Evo and HD2?? I have an HD2 that I changed to android. now i have a stock android keyboard
Anyone have this in apk? I like the way it switched the language from English to Chinese, which is not included in the HTC IME mod, they don't have the Chinese available in the mod,

Froyo Sense UI Keyboard

here is the default keyboard that comes with the recent official update. it is multitouch which is quite nice, but you still can't get rid of auto caps.

Awesome. Thanks bro
HUGE improvement over the 2.1 version.
Why in this day and age would you NOT give your flagship phone a multitouch keyboard?
I've been using HTC_IME_mod for days now and didn't realize 2.2 stock kb was multitouch.. thanks for the heads up.
OP, what do you mean you still can't get rid of auto caps?
it auto capitalizes the first word in every sentence.
HTC_IME mod needs an update
am i missing something, this is not multi-touch ?

Hold down one key, while pressing on another - if the second key registers while you're holding down the first key THAT's Multitouch.
i.e. Press and Hold "A", while holding press "S" quickly. Your screen should read AS
So it is or isn't multi touch? I don't remember it being but thought I would ask before I bother to download.

Hi, it is different. Cyanogen uses the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) as a source and in turn does not convert proprietary software like HTC's Sense and associated keyboard. You are using the stock froyo keyboard. The HTC keyboard imho is the best for the platform currently.

Same result here - installation failed on CM6 RC1. The HTC_IME mod (hires v27)keyboard does work though (the 2.1 version ported and modded). I even attempted to use the Clicker.apk from HTC_IME mod package and then install this to no avail.
Can anybody confirm that this works/doesn't work with the CM6 nightlies?
I just tested it based on the criteria he described and it is multitouch.
I have confirmed - sadly - that this results in an Application not installed error in CM6 nightly - 08042010-010952.
Dpad or magnifying glass
Correcting my errors when typing is painful with no Dpad. I have been looking today with no luck.
Anyone know of an app that works like a magnifying glass similar to what the iPad has?
Why is it that I get a error saying there is a problem parsing package on? Ive seen it a couple times.

[Request] Froyo HTC_IME APK

I've been searching all day, and I can't get a working copy of the Froyo HTC_IME APK.
Does anyone have it, or have the ability to rip it? I really wish I didn't have to request it here but I've exhausted all my attempts here to find it.
Help would be really appreciated. I'm currently running Damage Control 3.5 which didn't get official Froyo Sense keyboard. The mod does not have arrows, which is necessary for EVO users.
-EDIT: If anyone knows how to rip it from a ROM, that information can help as well, as long as it's not too difficult. I can have a friend attempt to do that.

Thanks. For some reason, however, it says "Application Not Installed". Any reasons as to why this is happening?
Again, I'm running DamageControl 3.5.
I did, while waiting for a reply, find a backup made by Titanium that includes the keyboard as system data. I could not run a restore for it though. It feels like I just will never get that keyboard back unless I flash a new ROM.
So, out of the options below, what's my best move?
1. Troubleshoot the installation error.
2. Troubleshoot Titanium
3. Flash a different ROM
This might seem like too much for a single keyboard, but you don't know how much I miss those arrows...

Anyways dude, the froyo keyboard is nice, so I could see why you want it. I've tried swype, and just plain deleted that gimpsta crap after like an hour (its nice for people who can't theme, but just ugly compared to a themes froyo).
To rip the apk, just download a stock Rom, open the zip, and it should be in system/app/. From there, u have to adb push it to the system/app/ folder of your own.phone.
Another alternative would be downloading a stock Rom n deleting literally everything in the zip minus the HTC_IME and flashing it.

Hey! I'm not really sure whats up with that. I am downloading DC right now to see whats inside. I made a new flashable. Maybe it will work. Before you flash it i would remove any extra keyboards you may have installed. Then also look in your /system/app/ folder and see if there are multiple copies of htc_ime.apk. there really should be only one. lastly, i would go to >settings>applications>manage>all>TouchInput>Clear defaults(dunno if you can do this) but maybe clear data. Then reboot recovery and flash this file. Maybe it wasnt working because it needed the clicker.apk as well.
Hope something works for ya. These files are from fresh so maybe that is why they don't work. ???
Has anyone figured out how to get this keyboard to work on cyanogen?
What exactly is the clicker?
I just ripped the APK from my Stock Froyo install for HTC_IME.apk, which should be the right keyboard. I have the clicker installed from that other HTC_IME Mod apk that's been around for a while, but that's not the multitouch version and doesn't have the arrow keys.
I'm going to see if the same hacks the guy who hacked the first one will work on this new APK. But I can't play around with it yet.
Check out APKtool to decompile the APK and look at the source for the other HTC_IME mod to kind of see what he did.
I too would like to use it in my CM install.
the clicker is what allows you to calibrate/recalibrate the touch input
Did anyone get the 2.2 keyboard running in AOSP roms yet?

OMFG ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Months... months i tell you i have been using android. hero then evo. And i just now realize you can use the volume keys as arrows thanks to you. I have learned how to theme, i have learned how to customize stock ota's into custom rom's for myself, i have learned how to compile kernels from source by dual booting into my linux build. I have learned so many things... and yet, just figured this out.... sometimes i wonder about myself and my sanity,.
on topic now, i think the touch input keyboard requires more than one apk to be installed, or an apk and a library.
